First Concert Saturday, Summer Fun Clay Shoot, Graduation, More

Granger Smith or Earl Dibbles, Jr?
Find Out Saturday Night
Granger Smith Concert Saturday! The kickoff to our TJ’s Corral season is Saturday when the Granger Smith Tour rolls into Minden . . . with the Frankie Ballard Concert following just 5 nights later on Thursday, June 2.  Tickets for these and some of our other 2016 TJ’s Corral Concerts are available either online or at our hotel desk.  This being the first concert of the year we’d like to answer some of the commonly asked questions and remind concertgoers of our few guidelines:  If you have tickets to pick up, the Box Office opens at the TJ's Corral entrance at 4 p.m. on concert nights. Our TJ’s concerts go on rain or shine, warm or cool. The desert weather tends to cool down as the night goes on so bring what you need when you come in ‘cause there’s no re-admittance into the concert area after your ticket has been scanned. Also, a friendly reminder that pets, lawn chairs, drones, and outside food/drinks may not be brought into TJ’s Corral . . . and both smoking and vaping are allowed in designated areas only. If you have questions, or need handicap assistance with seating, please call us prior to 4 p.m. on concert nights at 775-783-7766.

Finally – A Summer Shoot! Many of the clay shooting enthusiasts who have attended our February shooting outing over the years have asked us to put something together in the summer. So, we have our first Summer Fun Shoot ready for sign ups! The event is August 7 – 9 with 300 targets spread over two days of shooting, a reception on arrival night and a traditional family style Basque dinner at the JT on the final night. The details are at this link . . . check it out and join us!

Lots happening this weekend: In addition to the Granger Smith Concert on Saturday night we also have quite a bit going on in the casino this weekend. Friday drawings are at 8 and 10 p.m. plus Inn Club members earn 4X points from 4 p.m. to midnight.  Saturday we’ll have 70 hot seat drawings between 2 and 8 p.m. with a guaranteed $100 winner every time – that’s $7,000 total for the day. Sunday, the May Grand Prize Drawings in our $100,000 Giveaway are at 3, 5 and 7 p.m. with $5,000 Guaranteed!  Monday is the final Salute to Our Troops kiosk swipe - $1 for every INN Club member swipe will be donated to The Nevada Military Support Alliance. We wrap up the month on Tuesday with our May Scratcher Giveaways at 6 and 8 p.m. with the chance to win up to $5000!

Beatles Tribute in Minden Park Friday Evening
Beatles in the Park Friday: Carson Valley Inn has been helping sponsor the GE Family Concert Series since its inception many years ago. The first of five concerts on the 2016 schedule is this Friday night in Minden Park when Paperback Writer – a Tribute to the Beatles performs starting at 6:30 PM. Produced by the Douglas County Parks and Recreation department, the concerts are free to the public thanks to the generous support of GE, the CVI and the many other Carson Valley businesses that contribute annually to preserve our small town heritage and atmosphere.

Graduation Week – Who’s Turning 50? Congratulations to all of the graduates of  Aspire Academy High School (tonight in TJ’s corral) and Douglas High School (Thursday night at the DHS Athletic Field).  We wish you the best of success and happiness as you enter the real world. Enjoy life every minute as it goes by fast . . . consider this: the energetic high school graduates in 1984 who turned 18 that summer and were the first to have jobs at the Carson Valley Inn when it opened in early August . . . are turning 50 this summer! Were you one of those 1984 DHS graduates who worked at the CVI in the summer of 1984? Post a note in the comments section below and let us know what you’re up to these days!

Free Cabaret Lounge Entertainment: Jonathon “JB” Barton entertains tonight, the Voodoo Cowboys take the stage Thursday thru Saturday, The Nighthawks are here Sunday and Monday and John Palmore returns Tuesday and Wednesday.  Playing together since 2009, the Voodoo Cowboys have appeared at most major casino venues in Nevada.  Not the cryin' in your beer type country band, they are the life of the party with their dance-inducing, hard drivin' country music and rock n roll. The group has rocked crowds on numerous stages around the world, as well as sharing stages with such rock and country stars as David Nail, Little Texas, Ron Keel, Toby Keith and many more. The Nighthawks perform a wide variety of styles covering artists from Alan Jackson to ZZ Top, including great classic country tunes and expert performances of classic rock songs.

May is Nevada Wildfire Awareness Month. We are acutely aware of the danger that wildfire presents to the residents of many areas of Carson Valley and our surrounding communities – especially Lake Tahoe to the east and Alpine County and the extended Sierra Range to the south. We have partnered with the multi-agency committee that sponsors this movement the last few years and are pleased to do our part again this May. Please take a few moments to visit the Living With Fire website.

Wine and Hamburgers – How’s That Work for You?
  • Today is National Wine Day - not to be confused with National Drink Wine Day which is in February. We're starting to think all it takes is an INN Club Card and the influence of a couple of glasses of wine for anyone to declare their own "National" day of just about anything. To pursue your dream of infamy, we suggest you slip into CV Steak, pick one or two selections from the wine list, sit back and start planning your very own "National Day!"
  • Saturday is Hamburger Day. Not being inclined to reinvent the wheel this week, we’ll go with the following which we had in this blog last year on Hamburger Day . . . Because it all but still stands and it’s all good information and it represents our  recommendations in order from traditional to more adventurous: The Bodines Restaurant Double Cheese Burger with beer-battered French fries is our north sister property's biggest seller.  The Cheese Burger is also Katie's biggest seller, but we suggest stepping it up a notch with the Smoke House Burger(double bacon, cheddar cheese and hickory BBQ sauce). Next up the gastrointestinal delight ladder are two from Sharkey's Jackpot Café: The Drunken Burger (includes one well shot or domestic draft beer) and the Volcano Burger (stuffed with ghost pepper cheese and chorizo, topped with more ghost pepper cheese and spicy secret sauce). And for a most-un-traditional and "bet-you-can't-eat-the-whole-thing" experience, go for the Gourmet Hamburger (aka The French Disaster) in CV Steak.
