Win a Toyota Camry, Easter Dining, Penny Progressive Over $85,000, More

$500, $25,000, $85,000+:  let’s go thru these numbers carefully ‘cause they all are (or could be in one case) happening this week! Tonight, we’re giving away a $500 Shopping Spree (a variety of gift cards) at Ladies’ Night. Friday night we wrap up our $80,000 March Pot-O-Gold promotion by giving away a guaranteed $25,000 in cash and free play between $15,000 at CVI and another $10,000 at Bodines Casino!  As for the $85,000+, that’s our Penny Progressive Jackpot (as of last night) and while we’re not guaranteeing it will be won this week, we can guarantee that when it does hit, it can only be won on one of the Triple Red Hot 7's slots at CVI, Sharkey’s or Bodines. How’s this for potential irony on this big Penny Progressive Jackpot: if it hits this Saturday, April 1, you’ll never think of April Fools’ Day as something less than spectacular again! And you can say that you hit the Penny Progressive Jackpot on National One Cent Day - one of those obscure “who makes this stuff up” holidays that you will likely remember forever.  We sure hope it happens - it’s a PR person’s dream!

Buck Ford Joins Alyssa Micaela for Nashville Nights Showcase This Friday

Buck’s newly released album recorded in Nashville “Where I Wanna Be” is currently available at CDbaby.

Want One of These? What Color?

To get in on all of the fun and giveaways, remember to always use your player card whenever playing in any of our three properties.

Easter is just over two weeks away and if you don’t have your dinner plans made, perhaps you’ll think of Katie's or CV Steak for Easter Sunday dinner?  CV Steak is open Easter Sunday from 4:30 p.m. serving the regular CV Steak menu plus two Easter dinner specials: Apple Bourbon Glazed Slow Roasted Pork Rib Eye and Grilled Salmon “Oscar Style.” Reservations in CV Steak are strongly recommended - actually, for Easter Sunday reservations in CV Steak are darn near a must! In Katie’s we're offering our regular menu on Easter Sunday plus a holiday special of Orange Glazed Baked Ham from 2 to 9 p.m.  click here for pricing and other details.

Save the Date – May 12: Many people have asked about about a “Celebration of Life” for Stew Stewart, our former entertainment manager who passed away earlier this year. We have it on our schedule for Friday evening, May 12 in TJ’s Corral and will have more information in next week’s blog.

What, No New Concerts Announced This Week? Nothing new to announce, but that doesn’t mean were done scheduling. For now, here's a link to the current 2017 Lineup in TJ’s Corral including an unusual “show” on July 1 when MMA will be featured in TJ’s Corral!

This week we have Tyler Stafford tonight, The Novelists Thursday thru Saturday, Steve Lord Sunday and Monday and Hans Eberbach next Tuesday and Wednesday.  Equally comfortable and entertaining acoustic or electric, The Novelists showcase cliffhanger storytelling, multiple lead singers and their signature four-part harmonies. In addition to a headlining gig at Dallas Cowboys Stadium, The Novelists have become a mainstay on the West Coast festival, college and house concert circuits. They’ve shared the stage with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, John Prine, and Daryl Stuermer (Genesis). Peter Finch, a member of the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame and formerly with KGO/KFOG Radio said of the Novelists, “The thing about The Novelists is that there is no weak link.  You hear it in their fine debut CD “Backstory,” and it’s confirmed in their live performances.  Every member of this four-piece band is a gifted, singer, songwriter, and musician.  Together they create something very special.”

New Concert Brings "Danger" to TJ's Corral, Sweet 16 Game Getting Personal, More

“Danger Zone” in TJ’s Corral: who came to mind when you read the name of this indelible hit from the movie Top Gun? Or how about when we mention the song "I'm Alright" from the cult classic movie Caddyshack? If you’re starting to get the picture, then you absolutely have to be starting to get excited. Kenny Loggins' remarkable four-decade-plus career has brought him from the top of the charts to the toast of the Grammys. He's had smash hits on Hollywood's favorite soundtracks, rocked worldwide stages, and found his way into children's hearts while bringing his smooth, beautiful voice to platinum albums of a stunning variety of genres. And on Friday night, June 9, Kenny Loggins will be performing in concert in TJ’s Corral . . . Get it on your calendar now!

Speaking of TJ’s Corral Concerts: Last week we mentioned that Lee Brice is coming back in 2017 . . . The date is set for Saturday, May 20.  Also on the 2017 Lineup in TJ’s Corral in addition to Kenny and Lee: Wynonna and the Big Noise Tour, Michael McDonald, Aaron Watson featuring special guest Clare Dunn, The Spinners, The Marshall Tucker Band and even World Fighting Championship (WCF) Fights! The full schedule as we have it so far (yep, working on one more) is on this page.  A word to the wise: the Wynonna and the Big Noise Tour concert is getting close to being sold out. Ticket availability for the other concerts will be announced soon and you’ll most likely read about it first on one of our Wednesday morning 7 AM blog postings.

But Wait, There’s More! Don’t forget our Nashville Nights Showcase on Friday, March 31 featuring Nashville singer-songwriter Alyssa Micaela appearing with her trio. This show starts at 8:30 PM in the Valley Ballroom and tickets are $15 at the Hotel Desk or call 775-783-6606.

We’ll have yet another Nashville Nights Showcase on Friday, April 28 with more info coming soon on performers and times.

One Sweet 16 Game Has Gotten Personal: We’re down to 16 teams in the Men’s NCAA Tournament and the Thursday game between Xavier and Arizona has gotten personal around the CVI. Many of our regulars know Greg Enholm . . . He has helped out in the past with some of our casino promotions and keeps his full-time gig in our sales department specializing in golf groups and more. Greg was brought up in Tucson and is an avid Arizona fan. Many also know Wyatt Woods who is currently one of the Managers on Duty at the CVI and previously held the same position at Sharkey’s. Wyatt is a proud alumnus of Xavier. The two have always gotten along in the past, and we’re pretty sure they will still get along no matter what happens Thursday. However, between now and then we suggest you not stand between them . . . The glaring and snarky looks they are giving each other could damage you!

Just for the Heck of It:
  • Saturday is one of two Waffle Days in the year - the other is in August in case you have to know. Whenever you choose to celebrate it we are ready in Katie’s where we serve waffles every day until 11 AM.
  • Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day. With all the country artists we mentioned in our concert articles above, you’ve got to have a couple of ear worms going on right now . . . Should be pretty easy for any country fan to invent your own quirky country music song title! And, while not country related, as soon as we mention Danger Zone again I’ll bet you that turns into an ear worm for you!

Two More TJ's Corral Concerts Announced, March Madness, More

Michael McDonald
added to TJ's Corral Concert Schedule
Two More Summer TJ’s Concerts Announced:  Michael McDonald has joined our TJ’s Corral concert lineup for this summer - he’ll be here on Friday, August 18. From ‘70s-era Doobie Brothers classics such as “What A Fool Believes” and solo hits like “I Keep Forgettin’” through two highly-acclaimed Motown albums, genre-busting guest spots and innovative concept shows, the five-time Grammy Award winning McDonald is both timeless and ever-evolving. Also just inked as we were putting this blog edition to bed:  Aaron Watson and Clare Dunn will both appear on Friday, June 16.  Aaron Watson’s album “Vaquero” is in the Top Ten on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Clare Dunn’s hits include "Move On" and "Tuxedo."  We’re getting close on a couple more – so watch our new blog every Wednesday at 7 AM. WAIT . . . one more just leaked in right before this "published." Looks like Lee Brice may be coming back this year . . . we'll run down the date and get it in next week's blog!

Nashville Nights Showcase March 31: Singer-songwriter Alyssa Micaela has a talent as big as Texas and a personality to light up the whole U.S.A.  Her debut single, “Getaway Car,” generated more than 3 million streams during its first few weeks of release.  As a performer,  she opened several shows for Willie Nelson last fall and has also opened for other popular touring acts including Eli Young Band, CAM, Jon Pardi, Aaron Watson and Sam Hunt.  Now immersed in music for her first (full-length or EP) album Alyssa will be performing with a trio at the CVI with those songs including “I’m In a Bar” and “Cowboys Like That,” along with her goose bump-inducing, bilingual cover of Roy Orbison’s “Crying” and others. It’s happening Friday, March 31 starting at 8:30 PM in the Valley Ballroom – tickets are $15 at the Hotel Desk or call 775-783-6606.

About the Bodines Casino Name:  To bring you up to speed if you missed last week’s blog, Bodines Casino got its name from a restaurant named Bodines that was previously located on the same property.  Last week we asked if anyone knew how that restaurant named Bodines got its name?  Here’s what we know: There were three partners, Shel Lindsey, Joe Masini and Dave Cinciala. For the longest time we thought their restaurant got its name from one of their dogs by the same name. Turns out this is more folklore than truth. Apparently Shel worked on the oil rigs in his younger days and the guys on the rig started calling him “The Big Bodine.”  As the trio put together the original restaurant they were contemplating a name and when Shell told them about his old moniker the decision was made! Now, does anyone know how Sharkey’s Casino got its name – just kidding . . . everyone knows the answer to that question!

It’s About the Food!
  • Friday is National Corned Beef and Cabbage Day. We’re serving this traditional favorite in Katie’s from 11 AM to 9 PM on Friday . . . comes with Irish red-skinned potatoes, braised carrots and horseradish cream sauce for $6.99.
  • Staying with the Irish Theme: Our Friday special in CV Steak is an Irish Shepard's Pie made with Antelope for $25.00.
  • Sunday is National Poultry Day.  You can catch the full poultry spectrum for less than $20.00 in Katie’s. Start with an early breakfast of Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs served with biscuit gravy – it's a generous plateful at $5.99. At lunch time, come back for the Big Bird - sliced roast turkey, bacon, tomato and Jack cheese on grilled sourdough plus fries for $7.99. Then go out for a long walk and come back for the Chandler Chicken Dinner - southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cole slaw for $5.99.

Basketball Madness: 64 teams in the Men’s NCAA Tournament, 32 teams in the NIT Tournament, 16 in the CBI Tournament and yet another 26 in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. That’s over 130 teams to bet – some more than once after they win!
  • Still not sure on your NCAA Bracket?  Here’s a link to Microsoft Bing’s March Madness bracket predictions, powered by “intelligent machine-learning technology.” It’s a pretty slick tool that lets you make your picks and is updated based on new information. We still like picking based on team mascot, team colors and famous alumni!
  • We’ll have a special NCAA Parlay Card out today for many of the First Round games this Thursday and Friday.
  • This week you can also bet the NBA, Pre-Season MLB, NHL and the NASCAR Camping World 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. Futures on the board include winners for NCAA Basketball Championship, Masters, NBA Championship, NHL Stanley Cup and World Series.
  • Place your sports bets at the CVI, Sharkey’s Casino or Bodines Casino and collect your winnings at whichever location is closest at the conclusion of the game! Race Book wagers can be made at CVI and Bodines.
Saying Goodbye to Winter: Tuesday is the Spring or March Equinox, more commonly called the first day of spring, at least in the northern hemisphere. However, after this winter, we really like this method of celebration better: Snowman Burning Day!

Free entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge:
Quite a variety this week with expanded hours for the extra partying on Friday: Helena and the Bear tonight, Just Us Thursday and Saturday, Justin Lee (4 PM) and The Blues Monsters (8 PM) Friday, Hans Eberbach Sunday and Monday and Adam Bergoch next Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • $80,000 Pot-O-Gold Giveaways Friday: $25,000 in Cash & Freeplay Guaranteed between CVI and Bodines Casino – CVI Drawings at 5, 7 and 9 PM with a chance to win up to $2,500.
  • St. Paddy’s Day on Friday: Stop in for $2 draft beer specials (the 16-ounce size!), free Cabaret Lounge entertainment starting at 4 PM and, of course, the Pot-O-Gold giveaways! And by the way, don’t call it St. Patty’s Day . . . it’s St. Paddy’s Day! Want to know why, or what other terms are acceptable? Click here. Might as well “get it right” this Friday!
  • 4X Points Saturday: That’s quadruple the benefits for your play!
  • Free Sweatshirt Monday: Earn 125 points on Monday and receive a Free CVI Sweatshirt . . . plus you keep the points!
  • Penny Progressive Over $77,000:  this Progressive Jackpot can only be won on one of the Triple Red Hot 7's slots at CVI, Sharkey’s or Bodines.
  • Poker Room: All our Featured Games, Tournaments and Special Promotions are listed on our website, click here for the full story.
  • Here’s a Handy Page with all our Current Casino Promotions!

Mother's Day Hotel Package, What's In a Name? Are We the Best? More

Mother’s Day Package: Mother’s Day is only two months away and now might be a good time to think about planning a Mother’s Day weekend visit to the Carson Valley Inn with your mother, wife, grandmother, or anyone else who might enjoy a “let’s let someone else worry about the work” getaway. Each year we offer a limited number of Mother’s Day Weekend Hotel Packages and the last year or two we have sold out. Check out the details and give us a call at 775-783-6629 when you’re ready to make your reservations!

We don’t have a Tattoo Parlor, but there are half-dozen categories in the Nevada Magazine Best of Nevada 2017 Survey in which some aspect of the Carson Valley Inn certainly might garner your vote. It doesn’t take long to complete the survey and we hope you’ll give us a nod in those categories where you think we are deserving!

We Guarantee There’s Something in This Section You Will like:
  • What’s in a name? Bodines Casino picked up its name from a restaurant named Bodines that was previously located on the same property.  So here’s the question of the day: does anybody know how that restaurant named Bodines got its name?  We’ve heard a couple of different versions but we think we’ve reached the bottom of the story and we’ll have that answer in next week’s blog.
  • Anxious for Selection Sunday so you know whether your alma mater’s team made one of the postseason basketball tournaments? Or, perhaps you have a birthday on Sunday and are hoping your wife got you that new set of golf clubs? Either way, we know you “can’t wait” so we have come up with a plan to ease the burden . . .  We have made arrangements to cut an hour out of the darkness of Saturday night/Sunday morning and . . . . Oh heck, we’ll get to the point – this is just a reminder that Daylight Saving Time starts at 2 AM Sunday when all the clocks “spring” ahead one hour here in Nevada (not in every state, ya know.)
  • How Many Brackets Will You Complete?  In March of 2015 the American Gaming
Association estimated that 40 million Americans would fill out more than 70 million brackets and wager approximately $9 billion on the NCAA tournament that year . . . and that was according to just-released research. Assuming normal inflation based on population increases and the seeming acceptance of alternate facts these days, let’s assume 75 million brackets will be filled out this year. Since this all happens between this Sunday evening and Tuesday morning, were thinking Monday should fall into the same category as the day after Super Bowl – why not just proclaim it a day off! Here’s even more support for our convoluted logic: since you’re taking the day off, it will help you celebrate National Napping Day (that's one of our blog writers napping in the picture at the link!) In any event, while we don’t book the whole bracketology thing at our sports book, we do handle action on every game in all the postseason tournaments. Place your bets at the CVI, Sharkey’s Casino or Bodines Casino and collect your winnings at whichever location is closest at the conclusion of the game!
  • National Name Tag Day is tomorrow and we think it would be a good idea for all of our guests and customers to wear name tags tomorrow . . . Sure would make it easier for us to remember everyone’s name!
  • Taxing Times: we were asked a few times again this week, so here’s a link to our 2016 Win/Loss Request Form.
  • A Complaining Restaurant Guest Led to What? Tuesday is National Potato Chip Day. This is certainly not something we’re celebrating around here but this all came about because a particular restaurant customer repeatedly complained one day back in 1853 (obviously not here at CVI). The chef’s “I’ll Show Him!” attitude kicked in and  . . . click the link and read about it! Now we aren’t advocating that everyone start complaining, but we sure do want to know if something is not right . . . just ask for the restaurant manager or the Manager on Duty to address any concerns.
  • Mike’s 4-year old filly Pretty N Cool won the Las Flores Stakes Saturday at Santa Anita Park. And if betting the ponies is your thing, you can do so 364½ days here at our Race and Sports Book.

Whiskey Maiden Anchors This Week's
Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge
George Pickard tonight, Whiskey Maiden Thursday through Saturday, Jonathan Barton Sunday and Monday and Helena and the Bear next Tuesday and Wednesday. Whiskey Maiden is a relatively new country/rock/pop (that’s versatility!) act out of California featuring modern music, high energy performance & nonstop, dance-floor-filling song selections. Fronted by the charismatic & soaring vocals of Sandy Nuyts, the band members are highly skilled musicians that have performed with the likes of Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Neil McCoy, Hootie & the Blowfish, Edwin McCain & other national & international artists.

  • 4X Points is popular on Saturdays so we're continuing this multiplier in March – all day, no limits on the number of points you can earn and just a handful of machines are excluded (yes, they are marked.)
  • Katie's continues to offer daily food specials served from 11 AM to 10 PM on Monday through Saturday. This month enjoy Pork Chili Verde for $6.99 on Mondays, Beef Stew served in the Sourdough Bread Bowl for $6.99 on Tuesdays, Italian specials for $6.99 on Wednesdays, Roast Turkey Dinner for $6.99 on Thursdays, and our popular Roasted Prime Rib and Fried Shrimp Dinner on Fridays and Saturdays for $14.99. And don't forget the long-running $5.99 Chandler Chicken Dinner on Sundays from 2 to 10 PM.
  • The "local fundraiser season" (we made that up) winds down in March with the Sierra Lutheran High School Gifts of Grace Dinner & Auction this Saturday and the Minden Rotary Beast Feast on Saturday, March 11.
  • Other March events at the CVI include the Douglas High School ROTC Ball, our local Basque Club's Annual Mus Tournament (all-day card tournament with about 150 participants), a few small conventions, regular monthly association and business meetings and an assortment of other business and social private events. We'd welcome the opportunity to talk you about your group, association, or company having an event here at the CVI  . . . call Carrie at 775-783-6673.
  • March Madness kicks off with Selection Sunday on March 12 and continues over the following extended weekends as the NCAA Tournament shrinks from an initial field of 68 teams to the Men's Final Four on April 1 & 3. When you add in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), College Basketball Invitational (CBI), possibly one other men's tournament and the women's version of some of these tournaments, you have the alumni from over 100 colleges and universities following their teams in loser-goes-home, season-ending tournament play!! No wonder "they" call it March Madness!
  • St. Patty's Day on March 17 it is always fun at the CVI . . . It's a Friday this year and that always "enhances" the celebrating. We're doing the usual draft beer special at the bars, Corned Beef and Cabbage special in Katie's and extended (earlier) live entertainment.
  • We’re "almost there" on the details for the Nashville Nights Showcase on Friday, March 31 in the Valley Ballroom. Watch our weekly blog for more details
  • There's probably more going on in March that we missed today . . . a good reason to catch the details each week in our blog, a new one pops up at 7 AM every Wednesday.

The Whiskey Heroes in the Cabaret Lounge this Thursday - Saturday
Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge
Patrick Major tonight, The Whiskey Heroes Thursday through Saturday, Chris Talbot Sunday and Monday and George Pickard next Tuesday and Wednesday. The Whiskey Heroes, a project of Aaron Henry and Trent Wood, began in 2014. With rock roots surrounded by a country locale, their music forms its own unique sound. Their first single (Night in the Country) was mixed by Grammy award winning mixer Mark Needham. Since then, the band has added Matt Bailey on rhythm guitar, Dillon Secklin on drums and Max Landis on bass and backup vocals. With the momentum from their recordings, and the addition of the other members, The Whiskey Heroes earned a spot to open for the Night in the Country music festival in 2015.  Their debut album was released in 2016.
