Concert News:
  • 38 Special a Big Hit: We sure found out that the sounds of 38 Special are popular with many Carson Valley residents – what an exciting night in TJ's Corral last Thursday as their hits just kept on rockin' and rollin' while the full-house crowd cheered, danced and sang along! Our friends at www.Tahoeonstage.com had a photog and writer on hand and the great review they posted on their website tells it all!
  • Moe Bandy & TG Sheppard on Saturday, August 8:  if you were a country fan between the
mid-70s and the mid-80s, you'll certainly remember both of these great artists.  Collectively they charted 40 Top-10 hits during those years and you'll be able to hear most of them when they appear in succession in TJ's Corral on Saturday night, August 8.
  • Austinpalooza on Friday, September 18: Try this on for size . . . . four bands, 5 hours of music and you decide how much to pay! Simply make a donation to Austin's House "at the door" and enjoy the tunes for as long as you like!!
  • Lee Brice on Friday, September 18: we're getting close on working out the seating arrangements and ticket details for this highly-anticipated concert. Hopefully we'll be releasing more information in our Wednesday morning blog either next week or the week after.

Let's Party! We mentioned this briefly last week and here are more details on our 31st Birthday Party on August 15: outside in TJ's Corral we'll be offering a free concert by the Davisson Brothers Band. They were so enthusiastically received at their TJ's Corral concert back in June that we are bringing them back and this time it's free! Before the concert we'll have free ice cream, free popcorn, $2 hamburgers, $1.50 hot dogs, $2 soda and water, and $5 beer and wine. Inside the casino that Saturday: 3X Points from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. free cake and champagne from 2 to 3 p.m., free birthday t-shirts handed out randomly throughout the day while they last, and drawings to win up to $5000!

Aviation Roundup Almost Here! The Carson ValleyAviation Roundup is now just three weeks away on Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23 at the Minden-Tahoe Airport.  Tickets are on sale at aviationroundup.com where you'll also find much more information.  Don't miss this rare opportunity to see the USAF Thunderbirds right here in the Carson Valley (still sounds unbelievable, doesn't it!)

Poker Room Brings Back "The Ladder": The Ladder returns to our poker room this Saturday and continues through August and September with drawings for $2,400 in cash during October. We build the ladder based on points earned from live play in the poker room. At the end of September, the top 50 players qualify for the October cash drawings. The crew in the poker room has all the details on this and a myriad of other special and ongoing featured games and promotions! And as a reminder, the monthly Ladies Only Poker Tournament is this Sunday with the action starting at 4 p.m.

Sharkey's Jackpot Café Food News:
  • Kids Rule! We've added a new Sharkey's Kid Bites menu for our friends under 10 years of age. Make your selection on the front, then color the picture on the back!
  • The new August Weekend Dinner Special at Sharkey's is Prime Rib and Lobster! We serve up an 8 ounce cut of prime rib, a lobster tail, a twice baked potato and your choice of soup or salad all for just $20 from 4 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in August starting this Saturday!
  • Sharkey's Bar Bites continue to be a popular quick-grab snack and we're adding a Breakfast Burrito starting this Saturday.
  • Sharkey's $7.99 Daily Specials start at 11 a.m. and the August lineup includes Pork Chop on Monday, Meatloaf on Tuesday, Balsamic Chicken Pasta on Wednesday, Beef Stroganoff on Thursday Fish & Chips on Friday and Spaghetti & Meatballs on Sunday.
$99,000 Penny Progressive Jackpot Up for Grabs: Our Penny Progressive Jackpot finally reached its maximum of $99,000. Play continues steadily and someone will win this amount. We'd like to tell you it will be very soon, but we never thought the Jackpot would get over about $70,000 . . .  and here it is at $99,000! We just go back to our guarantee: Someone will win this Jackpot here at the Carson Valley Inn as it is not connected to any other machines at any other location.

Misty Blues All-Female Parachute Team
Aviation Roundup Just 4 Weeks Away! The Carson Valley skies will be filled with roaring jets, flag-flying skydivers and lots of other aerobatic aircraft when the Carson Valley Aviation Roundup hits the Minden-Tahoe Airport on Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23. The Misty Blues all-female skydiving team will open the ceremonies each day. The daily aerobatics feature Matt Younkin in a Beech 18, Dan Buchanan stretching the aerobatic limits of a hang glider,  Eric Hansen and Ken Fowler in the Team Rocket formation aerobatics,  Manfred Radius doing sailplane aerobatics, Kyle Franklin's special brand of airplane entertainment and Bill Stein in his Edge 540.  And what better finale to any air show then a dramatic 45-minute performance by the USAF Thunderbirds. There are also civilian and military aircraft static displays, plenty of food and beverage and acres of free parking. Tickets are on sale at aviationroundup.com where you'll also find much more information. The Carson Valley Inn is proud to be the host hotel and a major sponsor of the Carson Valley Aviation Roundup.

Horses and Other Sports:
  • Win, Place and Show . . . Mike's horses produced one of each on the opening weekend of the summer meet at Del Mar. Pretty N Cool brought home a win in the 6th race and Air Pocket took second in 10th race on Sunday. Toews On Ice came in third in the 3rd race on Saturday.
  • Wanna Bet?  In addition to betting Horseracing, Major League Baseball games and this weekend's NASCAR Crown Royal 400 at Indianapolis Speedway, we're also taking futures action on who will win the World Series (4 teams at 5 to 1), NCAA Football Championship (Ohio State the favorite at 3 to 1), NCAA Basketball Championship (both Virginia and Kansas are 9 to 1 favorites) and the Super Bowl (yep, the Seahawks at 5 to 1).  And get this: just 7 weeks until the opening NFL games and less than three weeks 'til the Hall of Fame Game!!

Is a New Tesla in Your Future? How would you like to own and drive Tesla's new dual-motor  Model S 70D with all-wheel-drive, 514 horsepower, a 70 KW-Hour battery and a 240 mile driving range, and a 0-60 acceleration time of 5.2 seconds?  Sound like a dream that just won't happen to you? Well, consider this: The Penny Progressive Jackpot at the Carson Valley Inn spun past $91,000 early today. While we don't know who will win it or when it will "hit," we do know that it will be paid here at the Carson Valley Inn! And whoever captures this Jackpot will have enough money to pay their taxes and buy a Tesla Model S 70D!  One more thing for certain: you can't win the jackpot if you're not playing one of the Penny Progressive machines!

Clay Shooting Event in February: The details are all set and information is online for our 30th Annual Shooting Outing February 18 – 20, 2016. If last year's surge in attendance is any indication, we could reach sellout capacity for this coming February's event. So, get in early if you plan to attend, spread the word to any Clay shooting friends and stand by for a full weekend with an arrival reception on Thursday, two days of Clay shooting and a gala banquet on Saturday night.

Lee Brice Added to Concert Lineup, 38 Special Concert Days Away

How Many 38 Special Songs Do You Remember? A few of us were sitting around wondering the same thing. This popular and highly-successful rock group had many hits in the 1980s so we pulled up a list. As we played each one on YouTube, it quickly became obvious that between the three of us, at least two of us and often all of us knew each one of their hits. We're confident that if you were following music in the 1980s, you will do the same. So, click on any of the following and see if they ring a bell . . . Then go to our 38 Special Concert webpage and order your tickets now for this sure-to-be-high-energy event.  Just some of their hits: Hold On Loosely, Caught Up In You, Second Chance, Wild Eyed Southern Boys, If I'd Been the One, Back Where You Belong, Somebody Like You . . . catch these and many more in just a few days on Thursday, July 23 in the wow-this-place-is-really-incredible setting of TJ's Corral!
Judy When Her Name Was Called
Becky When Her Name Was Called
Cash Is Still King! Two of our player club members got this dilemma thrown at them last weekend: "A shiny new top-rated 2015 Ford F-150 Pickup Truck . . . or $20,000 in cash - go!"  On Friday night at CVI Judy – a CVI regular who also plays occasionally at both Sharkey's Casino and Bodines Casino – got to make that call and she did so fairly quickly when she took the give-me-the-money route. That was immediately followed by some texts to her family back east! The next night at Bodines Casino, Becky was faced with the same pleasant choice. She wavered back and forth while dancing around the truck with one of Bodines favorite slot attendants Gigi. After thinking about it, she also took the cash! What would you have done? Were both of these ladies expecting to win? Hard to say . . . But both looked either surprised or flabbergasted when their name was called as our marketing department ladies captured in these two pictures.

And Even More Cash Either Handed out or Certain to Come: Bob looks quite happy and certainly not shy about showing off a fanned-out handful of cash after hitting a $7,400 Royal Flush on $1 poker machine . . . . it happened last week just a few nights before Judy was faced with her cash-or-truck decision. And soon (perhaps very soon?), someone will win more cash than can possibly be fanned out in one hand when our Penny Progressive Jackpot hits. The ever-increasing and certain-to-come jackpot scrolled past $75,700 this morning and it has been climbing pretty rapidly as play has been strong. You can't win this handsome sum unless you play!

$80,000 Guaranteed Giveaway Promotion First Drawings This weekend . . . So don't miss out on your share of the Cash and FreePlay. You earn a drawing ticket for every five points you accumulate using your player card and drawings are every Friday and Saturday at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. Check this page for more on this and our other current casino promotions.

Uncle Sam Walking for Wine? Could be cause' there's a Patriotic theme for this Thursday's third 2015 Thirsty Third Thursday Wine Walk (say all that fast – before or after your wine) and once again Sharkey's Casino is one of the "must" stops. Sponsored and produced by our friends at Main Street Gardnerville, these popular events often draw over 300 people visiting the businesses in Gardnerville to enjoy a little wine here, perhaps a beer  there!  Be sure to register starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at either Big Daddy's Bicycle Shop near the Minden-Gardnerville line or at the Town of Gardnerville office across the street and two blocks south of Sharkey's. And come dressed in your best Red, White and Blue attire! Speaking of the Main Street program, Main Street Minden is in the formative stages and looking for residents interested in serving on the Board of Directors. Interested? Call 775-309-1101. Just as Sharkey's is involved with Main Street Gardnerville, the Carson Valley Inn will be joining the fun conjured up by the Main Street Minden program.

Breaking Concert News - Lee Brice? YES!  As we were buttoning up this blog last night we got confirmation that 2014 Grammy nominee and 2014 Country Music Awards nominee Lee Brice will be appearing in concert in TJs Corral on Friday, September 18. Watch for more details in this blog which is updated every Wednesday morning at 7 a.m.

Mike's Horses:  We're not saying or inferring anything predictive or definitive, but the Delmar Thoroughbred Club opens its Summer Meet this Thursday and Mike has been known to run a horse or two at Delmar most years. The crew at the Race and Sports Book here the CVI or over at Bodines Casino will be glad to help you decipher which horses are Mike's and, if you're feelin' lucky, help you place your bet!

  • Because We Feel Like Mentioning It: Friday is Yellow Pig Day. The story about how this came to be is proof again that even our highest educational institutes sometimes breed temporary lunacy!

Free Pickup Truck This Weekend, Free Advertising for Your Business, Mike Has A Winner, More

Pickup Truck Giveaways this Friday and Saturday! Just a friendly reminder that we are giving away two Ford F150 pickup trucks this weekend - one on Friday night at the Carson Valley Inn and another on Saturday night at Bodines Casino. It's not too late to get in, but you have to use your Inn Club card while playing in the casino in order to earn virtual drawing tickets. All the details are posted at the Guest Services counter and we hope you'll throw your hat into the "possibility ring" because there will be a pickup truck winner on Friday at the CVI and Saturday at Bodines!

$80,000 Giveaway Promotion Starts Sunday . . .  and continues through Friday, August 28. A total of $80,000 will be given away including $20,000 guaranteed on  August 28! Like most of our casino promotions, this one is pretty simple: you earn a drawing ticket for every five points you accumulate using your INN Club card. Drawings are every Friday and Saturday at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. for Cash and FreePlay. Check this page for all the details on this and our other current casino promotions.

We'll Advertise Your Business for Free! Opportunities like this don't come along very often. The Carson Valley Inn, Bodines Casino, and Sharkeys' Casino publish a newspaper every two months called the Carson & Valley Voice. It usually runs about eight pages and is direct mailed to addresses in Carson Valley, Carson City, some of our neighboring California communities to the south, and certain sections of the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe. A little over 50,000 copies. The next issue comes out on August 1 and we are offering a few local businesses the opportunity to advertise at no charge. All we ask is that you make an offer to our Players Club members in your ad that provides them with a discount or special deal that is not available through your normal advertising and promotional avenues. You supply your company logo and the offer details, we'll even help design your ad at no charge. Naturally, we reserve the right to approve advertisers, the offer, and we certainly need to limit the number of advertisers in each issue. If this sounds interesting, please call 775-783-7713 or send an email as soon as possible with your name, phone number and company name. Hurry . . . our deadline is Wednesday, July 15.

Tanya Tucker drew a big crowd last Friday and the spectacular sunset was an added bonus to a nostalgic night. Thanks to all who helped make this event another success. Don't forget to jump in now for tickets to the 38 Special Concert on Thursday, July 23 and the Moe Bandy & TG Sheppard Concert on Saturday, August 8!

Mike's Horses: we haven't been saying much lately about how Mike's horses are doing. They have been running, but no one wants to read about horses that come in second or, even on a couple of occasions, furthest-from-first. Last Saturday, he had a winner when Gimme Da Lute won the Los Alamitos Derby at Los Alamitos Race Course. That's the second consecutive win for the colt that also won the Affirmed Stakes on June 7 at Santa Anita. What's next?  The nature of the business dictates that we always have to say "were not sure." However, we will always let you know the good news after-the-fact!

Penny Progressive Jackpot Climbing . . . like from $60,000 to over $67,000 in the last week!  We can't predict when the jackpot will hit, but history tells us that when it gets to this level, the play picks up substantially and chances are pretty good that it will hit soon. However, we can guarantee it will be paid right here at the Carson Valley Inn.

Steven Tyler’s "Love Is Your Name" is the first country music release for the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Famer. This is not something we would usually put in our blog, but the planets aligned in such a way on this one that we felt we should: Aerosmith was in our area about a week ago. Steven Tyler is the lead singer. The band members in his new video are from the group Loving Mary who performed in TJ's Corral last month. You'll see some of them in the video above!!

  • Just Because We Feel Like Mentioning It: Admittedly, this falls into the category of not having anything at all to do with the Carson Valley Inn or any of our properties. However, since many of our customers can relate to the subject matter, we want to point out that this coming Sunday is Etch-a-Sketch day!

    Roger Hegyi as “True Willie
of the world’s most recognizable and distinctive musicians. Not just a Willie Nelson “impersonator,” Roger has found a way to reach into the musical soul of Willie Nelson and share it with audiences wherever he performs. Free shows are at 7 and 9 p.m. in our Cabaret Lounge
  • Tanya Tucker Concert Friday: How many of Tanya Tucker's ten #1 hits can you name? And with 41 top-10 hits in her career, how many do you think she'll perform at her concert in TJs Corral Friday night? The best way to find out is by snapping up some of the few remaining tickets and joining us this Friday with the doors opening at 7:15 p.m. and the show starting at 8 p.m.  It's just $39 to see this incredible country legend who blazed the trail for the many female country stars who followed.

We offer a multitude of ways to celebrate so take your pick or try them all . . . a chocolate-topped Long John in Job's Perk, a Chocolate Fudge Cake (full or mini) at the Katie's bakery counter,  the Stuffed Fudge Brownie in Katie's or the CV Steak Chocolate Mousse!

Jessica as Vanna White
The Penny Progressive Jackpot in our casino is now over $60,000. You know what that means: Play will increase even more, the Jackpot will go up faster, and pretty darn soon someone will win enough money to buy a brand-new vehicle - or a couple of brand new vehicles depending on your tastes!  As a reminder, this Jackpot is not part of one of those statewide progressive jackpots that could "hit" anywhere. It will be paid right here at the Carson Valley Inn.  While we are on the subject, the Dollar Progressive at the CV Steak Bar is now over $5,300. Not a bad bet when you can find a seat . . . the word must already be out!

Best of Nevada – Again! We did it again – the Carson Valley Inn was voted Best Casino by the readers of Nevada Magazine in the "Everywhere Else" category. Sounds like a catchall category at first, so we did a little research. Seems there are 325 casinos in the state of Nevada with unrestricted gaming licenses. About half are in the greater Las Vegas area and about 40 are in the greater Reno/Sparks area - each of these two areas had their own winner. That left over 100 other casinos throughout the state and that's the category in which we were named "Best of Nevada" for the second-year in a row.  We consider this an honor and will continue to strive to provide the services, facilities and ambiance that will keep us pointed us in the direction of a three peat!

Concert Updates:
  • 38 Special Concert on Thursday, July 23: This special evening of classic southern rock is just three weeks away . . . don't miss out!
  • Moe Bandy & TG Sheppard Concert Tickets Available Today!  Moe Bandy and TG Sheppard were here within a few months of each other in late 2013 and early 2014 and both of these performers sold out their Valley Ballroom concerts. So, on August 8 we're bringing them together in the much larger TJ's Corral for a special night featuring both artists! Tickets go on sale today at 11 a.m. - just $29!

There are lots of Independence Day activities going on in and around the Carson Valley this weekend.  Can't list them all without getting the blog cops to go on "tilt," but here are two for Saturday, July 4:
  • In the morning, we invite our Sharkey's neighbors to stop by Heritage Park (right across Hwy 395 from Sharkey's) for the Town of Gardnerville's Celebration which includes a fun run, Lion's Club Pancake Breakfast and obstacle course of the kids.
  • Mid-morning and early afternoon, we invite our CVI neighbors to stop by Minden Park (just 2 blocks from the CVI) for the Town of Minden's Celebration which includes DJ music plus water games and free balloons and bounces houses for the kids. Food? Try free apple pie, free popsicles and, courtesy of the CVI, free hot dogs and hamburgers while they last!

As Always, Interesting, Helpful and Even Useful Tidbits and News
  • Hey, Where'd My Horse Go? Over two dozen Horseless Carriage Club vehicles will continue to tie to the hitchin' post in our parking lot through tomorrow - a great way to experience the history of these pioneer gas, steam and electric motor vehicles built or manufactured prior to January 1, 1916.
  • Pink Snow? Seriously? We didn't know about this one until we stumbled across it on the Internet a week or so ago. It turns out that there's such a thing called Watermelon Snow, and, if you believe everything you read on the Internet, it apparently can be found somewhere nearby on the Western slope (that's California side) of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
