Three TJ's Corral Concerts Announced, Super Sunday Happenings, February Soups, More

2018 Concerts in TJ’s Corral
We’re not sure we understand all the cosmic jargon surrounding today’s trifecta of a super moon, a blue moon and a total lunar eclipse but we figure this galactic confluence is the perfect backdrop to announce three of the concerts we have scheduled so far for TJ’s Corral this summer. Granger Smith will be returning to perform tunes from his latest album When The Good Guys Win on Saturday evening, June 16.  Just short of two weeks later, Clint Black will command the stage in TJ’s Corral on Friday, June 29 performing his classic hits plus new favorites from his On Purpose album. Multiple ACM Award winner Trace Adkins makes a TJ’s Corral stop on his How Did We Get Here Tour on Saturday, July 14. Watch our weekly blog and our social media for information on when tickets will be available for these concerts and for announcements on additional concerts.

Super Sunday at the Inn
Sorry, You'll Just Have to Figure Out
What We Really Mean by Super Sunday!
  • Enjoy $2 Draft Beer during the game in the Cabaret Lounge, at the Cabaret Bar and at the CV Steak Bar. We’ll be glad to bring your bar bites order to you at your seat!
  • The $5,000 Progressive Pro PK'EM will be given away this week!  Our 15-pick card has the winner, over/under and 13 “props” all tied to various occurrences during the game such as first or last team to score, largest lead, margin of victory, etc. You can play this same $5 card as often as you’d like at CVI, Sharkey's Casino, Bodines Casino and Slot World Casino. Whoever picks the most out of 15 wins the $5,000 Jackpot and any ties will be split! As for those giant Super Game progressive jackpots advertised elsewhere? Remember you are wagering against players at a few hundred locations around Nevada. We like our odds a whole lot better with just four casinos!
  • Six Pages of Crazy Prop Bets: this is your chance to let your imagination run amok with the many different propositions on what will or will not happen before and during the Super Bowl game. Our suggestion: latch onto these sheets of listings early, give yourself plenty of time to ponder, and then just throw darts to determine which way to bet! Don’t like the way you’re doing after the first half? Come on down at halftime and jump in on our variety of half-time wagers.
  • $160 Super Sunday Football Grid in Our Poker Room:  Win squares by making a Full House or higher in live action Texas Hold’ em or any hand of Tens Full or higher in Pineapple or Omaha. Grid numbers will be drawn on Sunday, February 4 when the board is full and the payout is $40 each for 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters and for final score.  You don’t have to be present to win, but winners do need to pick up your cash by the end of the business day Monday.
  • Wherever You Look, The Game Will Be On!  Catch the action on the big screen in our Cabaret Lounge or one of the many flat screens in the Casino Bar/Lounge Area, in the Pit Area, at the CV Steak Bar and in the Poker Room.
  • Drawings After the Game:  Stop in the casino after the game where we’ll have Hot Seat Drawings with the chance to win up to $1,000. Use your INN Club card while playing to be eligible!

2018 Concert News Soon, Gift Baskets, a Blueberry Weekend, New in Our Fitness Center, More

2018 Concerts in TJ’s Corral
Good news . . . we are wrapping up the last few details and by next Wednesday’s blog we will start announcing some of the artists and dates for our 2018 concert series in TJ’s Corral. Judging by the numerous emails, phone calls, social media messages and inquisitive looks, we know there is a lot of interest – so check back next week as we start revealing what's coming up!

Has This Happened to You?
Gift Baskets Readily Available
in Job's Perk
You’ve just arrived at the Carson Valley Inn for a weekend that includes visiting some friends in our area . . . and you realize you forgot a hostess gift. Or, you’re here at the CVI for lunch and just remembered it’s someone’s birthday back at the office. We may be able to help – read on  . . .
A couple of us got in really early one day this week and stumbled up to Jobs Perk for a hot cup of wake-me-up coffee while we pondered what to write for this blog. As the coffee kicked in we started looking around, saw a few gift baskets, chatted with the ladies in Job’s Perk and found out some interesting information: turns out they’ve really ramped up what they can do in the way of Gift Baskets in Job’s Perk. Unless we just got hit by a panic buying spree, Job’s Perk has pre-made baskets on hand for those quick grab-and-go situations. If you’ll give us a few minutes, we can also custom assemble one for you in a variety of sizes with anything we have in Job’s Perk: wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, coffee, packaged food, CVI logoed items, etc.   Anyway, the next time you need a last-minute gift, or just want to do something thoughtful, we may just be able to help!

Run, Lift, Repeat
All New Fitness Equipment This Week!
We know that overnight visitors to the Carson Valley Inn don’t come here with the intention of doing heavy workouts. However, judging by the wear and tear on the equipment we just removed, both the aerobic and weight equipment in the fitness room near our indoor pool get used quite regularly. So, as we were finishing up this week’s blog, we snapped the above pictures right after the installation of all new equipment: two ellipticals, two treadmills, a recumbent bike, a TRX Pro System (not shown)  and a Paramount Multi Station with everything you need to tone all major muscle groups. The fitness room, indoor pool, and two large hot spas are available at no charge to all registered guests in our Hotel, Motor Lodge and RV Park daily from 6 AM to midnight.

Eagles & Ag This Weekend
A warm welcome to the 200+ participants in this weekend’s many sold-out tours, social events and workshops connected with the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce’s 16th Annual Eagles & Agriculture event! We are honored to be associated with this prestigious annual celebration of a key part of Carson Valley’s heritage and wish all those in attendance a most pleasant weekend!

Valentine’s Day Dining, Sporting Clays, Cheese, Chowder, Pie, More

Valentine’s Day Dining at the Inn
Make CV Steak Reservations Now: 775-783-6650
We’ve all done it:  We wait too long and then grow more and more frustrated as we call around looking for dinner reservations for Valentine’s Day. So, here’s a friendly nudge to read on and take action now!
  • The big picture: both Katie's and CV Steak are offering their regular menu selections plus specials on Valentine's Day, Wednesday, February 14.
  • The specials in CV Steak start with Châteaubriand for Two - roasted beef tenderloin carved tableside and served with béarnaise sauce and a Cabernet demi-glaze plus a special holiday dessert for two. The Grilled Salmon Oscar includes a salmon fillet served with crab meat, asparagus, béarnaise sauce and port wine glaze plus holiday dessert.  Both specials include the CV Steak signature tableside tossed salad, sourdough baguette, creamery butter, and choice of twice-baked, baked or au gratin potatoes.
  • Katie's is serving two Valentine’s Day specials; a Roasted Prime Rib and Fried Shrimp Dinner and Angel Hair Pasta Shrimp Scampi.
  • Get the hours, pricing and more details in the flyer at this link.
Eagles & Ag Last Call
This is more of a “Last Whimper” then a “Last Call” as there are only a few spots left for a couple of the functions connected with the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Eagles & Agriculture event on January 25 – 28.  Many of the social/educational events are held here at Carson Valley Inn and the various tours start and finish here. For specific information on what is still available, click here.

Winter Sporting Clays Shoot
We’re getting pretty pumped up about our Winter Sporting Clays Shoot only five weeks away on February 22 – 24.  We’re throwing in this reminder in case you were thinking about joining us and are not signed up yet as we will be ordering the special Sporting Clays long sleeve tees and patriotic-themed hats next week.  If you’re on the fence about participating, all the information is on this combination flyer and entry form. The extended weekend  - popular with both visitors and locals -includes two days of sporting clays plus food and beverage functions, drawings, prizes, buckles for the class winners (just about everyone has a shot) and, new this year, a special bracelet for the top-gun female. Whether you’re a competition shooter, a beginner or an “about once a year” shooter, we know you will enjoy this event! If you feel more comfortable asking your questions over the phone, call Bill at 775-783-6624. Sure hope you can make it!

Cheese, Chowder and Choice (of Pie)
  • Cheese Lovers Day is Saturday, January 20. If you’re expecting us to start touting a fancy charcuterie tray with exotic cheeses, we’re just going to have to disappoint you. Turns out all we want you to do is be ready to let our servers know what kind of cheese you want on your cheeseburger: Swiss, jack, pepper jack, cheddar or American!
  • New England Clam Chowder Day is Sunday, January 21. And let’s not confuse this with the “regular” clam chowder day which is actually February 25. Now for the Good News – Bad News approach: The Good News is the clam chowder at the Carson Valley Inn is made fresh the New England style way with milk, onions, celery, potatoes, chopped clams, a bunch of really tasty spices and more. And we certainly respect and abide by the 1939 bill introduced in the Maine legislature making tomatoes in clam chowder illegal. Now for the “Bad” News: while we make it fresh once a week, it’s on Friday mornings and we only serve it in Katie’s every Friday. So, you have to celebrate New England Clam Chowder Day a couple of days early!
  • National Pie Day is Tuesday, January 23 according to the National Pie Council, and they must know!  While we recognize there are hundreds of different types of pie, we stand ready to help you celebrate with one of the following which are all available in Katie’s by the slice or at the Katie’s Bakery by the whole pie: Apple, Peach, Lemon Meringue,  Banana Cream, Chocolate Cream and, occasionally, Strawberry.

Tyler Stafford tonight, Reckless Envy Thursday thru Saturday and Jonathon “JB” Barton Tuesday and Wednesday.  Tyler Stafford is a homegrown talent (Reno), whose songs often draw comparisons to songwriters such as John Mayer and Paul Simon delivered with a candor and immediacy reminiscent of John Lennon.  The versatility of Reckless Envy might just bring a heartfelt ballad such as Chris Stapleton’s version of “Tennessee Whiskey,” an authentic version of “Barracuda” by Heart, an entertaining rendition of Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” a guitar driven ZZ Top classic such as “Tush” or a dance song like Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” The group includes Billy James Lassi (founder of the Midnight Riders) on lead vocals and acoustic guitar; accomplished violinist Virginia Bowman (Tahoe Symphony, Reno Philharmonic and Lubbock Symphony Orchestras) on fiddle, keyboard, lead and harmony vocals; and Keith Lindsey on lead guitar and vocals.  Jonathon “JB” Barton’s love for a variety of musical styles is apparent in his selection of favorites from Van Morrison, CCR, Hank Williams, Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Eagles and many more. Won't Be Long! Will You Be Joining Us?
Spring Stag Golf Outing Details Set
We can’t help but think about how green and lush our area golf courses will be after all of the steady but gentle “soak the ground” rain we’ve received during the last week. Good reason to roll out the details on our Spring Stag Golf Outing at the end of April. This 36-hole scramble with blind bogie scoring serves as our unofficial kickoff to the 2018 golf season which will see almost 100 different golf groups visit the Carson Valley Inn and play our areas courses. This year the two rounds of the Spring Stag will be at the Golf Club at Genoa Lakes and Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly Thunder Canyon and originally Lightning W). There’s a Thursday evening reception, golf on Friday and Saturday, a Saturday banquet and more . . . click here for more info or call Greg at 775-783-6615.

Are You Part of this
$5 Million Plus We Paid Out?
Actually, the amount is significantly in excess of Five Million Dollars but our accounting folks don’t want us publishing exact figures – actually it’s our marketing people, but that’s beside the point. Anyway, were talking about the total amount of Jackpots that we paid out during 2017 that triggered IRS reporting. This doesn’t count the millions more in payouts that fell under the reporting threshold . . . but again we’re straying from the point. If you won one of those reportable jackpots (if you did, we gave you a W-2G), you no doubt will be looking for a win-loss statement from the CVI for your gaming activity here during calendar year 2017. We can help you with that information on all gaming for which you used your INN Club card while playing.  However, there are only three ways you can make your request and they are explained on the form at this link. And please, for security purposes, we cannot send these reports by email. The request for these reports seem to come in heavy at the various tax deadlines, so we suggest you get the process started very soon and not get caught in the last minute rush.

Eating Chicken Pays Off
Elizabeth Came in For Chicken Dinner, Left with $10,000+
In this case we’re talking about the $5.99 Chandler’s Chicken Dinner served every Sunday from 2 PM in Katie’s.  Seems that Elizabeth N. comes in just about every Sunday to enjoy this very popular Katie’s special. This past Sunday – and for many Sundays to come – you can easily say that dinner was on us! You see, Elizabeth regularly spends a little time on the slots each Sunday. She was playing the Wealth of Dynasty slot which ironically provides a direct view of the entrance to Katie’s. Anyway, we’re sure she wasn’t looking at Katie’s when the bells started ringing to signify she had just won the Wealth – a $10,506 Jackpot.  Sure hope the boss doesn’t put a pencil to this and figure out this equates to over 1750 Chandler Chicken Dinners!

Double Blue Skies Thursday and Friday
It's just 9 months until the Blue Angels headline the 2018 Aviation Roundup at Minden -Tahoe Airport on October 13 & 14 but the planning is well underway. While the “Blues” undergo vigorous winter training 500 miles south at Naval Air Facility El Centro, the United States Navy flight demonstration squadron's Event Coordinator and Narrator will be arriving at Minden this Thursday in one of the team's trademark dark blue F/A-18C Hornets for advance planning meetings and media interviews.

Interesting Tidbits
  • Friday is Peach Melba Day. Closest we can come is Peach Pie which is one of the many pies, cakes and other pastries we make daily in our own bakery.
  • Tuesday is Appreciate a Dragon Day and we were amazed to find out how many slots we have at the CVI with some type of a Dragon theme.  There are a few different Dragon’s Law penny machines and the Dragon’s Law Twin Fever is an option on a few other slots. We have Dragon Link, Forbidden Dragons, The Great Pyramid games with a Dragon theme and also found Ultra Stack Dragon slots. We stopped looking when someone told us we were being watched by Puff the Magic Dragon!

Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge:
Carolyn Dolan and Big Red tonight, Just Us Thursday thru Saturday and Tyler Stafford Tuesday and Wednesday. Carolyn Dolan can dive into powerful R & B, deliver a smooth jazz standard or a gentle country ballad.  For the last fifteen years, she has been performing with her rockin' blues and R & B band, Carolyn Dolan and Big Red. Just Us is a unique group of musicians who decided to blend together the sounds of the Motor City and Oakland, CA to develop "Sweet, Grown & Sexy" sounds - music from the 60’s to the present.  Aladdin handles lead vocal and percussions. He is joined by Les Carter on vocals and drums, Phil Weaver on vocals and guitar and Fred Williams on bass.   Tyler Stafford is a homegrown talent (Reno), whose songs often draw comparisons to songwriters such as John Mayer and Paul Simon delivered with a candor and immediacy reminiscent of a John Lennon ballad.
