Valentine's Day Dining at the Inn Plus More from the Carson Valley Inn

Valentine's Day Dining at the Inn

Katie's and CV Steak are both offering their regular menu selections plus specials on Valentine's Day, Friday, February 14.

The CV Steak regular menu features a selection of appetizers and a generous range of entrees including steaks, chops, seafood, chicken and pasta dishes. CV Steak is also offering two Valentine's Day Specials for $29: Pomegranate Orange Glaze Pacific Salmon with sautéed green asparagus and Tomahawk Berkshire Pork Chop with garlic butter mushrooms. Both specials include the CV Steak signature tableside tossed salad, sour dough baguette, creamery butter, and choice of twice-baked, baked or au gratin potatoes. CV Steak’s Valentine’s Day Special Dessert is Dark and White Chocolate Mousse Dome with macerated Strawberries. CV Steak opens at 4:30 p.m. and reservations are always recommended by calling 775-783-6650. The CV Steak Sunset Specials will not be offered on Valentine’s Day. NOTE: All CV Steak reservations were filled at the time this was written but check back on Friday as we do sometimes receive cancellations.
Katie's Valentine's Day specials run from 2 to 10 p.m. The Shrimp & Penne Pasta tossed with vodka tomato cream sauce is $13.99 and the 12 oz. Double Pork Chop with mustard mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables is $15.99. The regular Friday Katie’s special will not be served on Valentine’s Day. Katie’s seating is on a first-come basis.

Special Valentine's Cake Available

Picture this: an 8" moist Chocolate Cake with strawberry filling, chocolate icing and a scrawling Happy Valentine’s Day message on the top of a giant dark chocolate mousse heart with mirror glaze icing!! We’ll have several of these decadent delicacies available for sale ($20) at the Katie’s Bakery Counter through Friday . . . and we suggest you reserve one today just to make sure you don’t miss out! We Wore Red – Now Let’s Take Action!

The day shift staff in Katie’s “front of the house” marked National Wear Red Day® last Friday as did others at the CVI. It was all part of the federally designated American Heart Month and the American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative, Go Red for Women. If you’d like to take action on checking your heart health, our friends at the Carson Valley Medical Center in Gardnerville are offering a special Heart Health Screening Package during February. Happy Valentine’s Day from Tanya

Tanya Tucker’s CMT Next Women of Country Tour has started with positive reviews, ticket sales for her June 6 concert in TJ’s Corral are climbing and this week we received this short video with a Happy Valentine’s Day message for her fans. Information on Tanya’s concert, the almost-sold-out Charlie Daniels Band concert on June 26 and other CVI entertainment is available at this link. She and her husband recently visited with us from Colorado spending three days experiencing the various nearby ski resorts and enjoying some of the other attractions and "things to do" in the Carson Valley. We met with her for breakfast very early one morning before she took the short drive to Heavenly for a morning of skiing. We quickly learned that as an award-winning writer and passionate skier, Kristen really “gets it.” We can't help but love her picture above showing the Carson Valley in the background. She will be writing and posting about her visit to Carson Valley and her stay at the Carson Valley Inn as promised in this Facebook video shot from Heavenly.

And The $5,116 Progressive Jackpot Winner Is

As of last night, we actually do not know who the winner is yet. Here's what we do know: one of the many sports fans who played our $5 Pro Pk'em Progressive Parlay card on Super Bowl Sunday got all 15 picks correct! That's good enough to take sole possession of the $5116 jackpot. All you need to do is "come forward" at either Sharkey's or the CVI with your winning ticket. And, as we hinted was possible in last week's blog, two of the 15 picks were actually ties and all ties were marked as winners. Remember, we don't know who bought the winning ticket so it's up to you to come in and claim your prize.
Seasonal Wagers on the board this week include NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey, the Daytona 500 on February 16 and Horse Racing.
Futures Bets on the board include: 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship, 2020 Stanley Cup, 2020 World Series and 2020 NASCAR Championship.
The 2020 Major League Baseball Season kicks into gear early next week when pitchers and catchers report for all 30 teams. The Grapefruit League and Cactus League spring-training games start on February 22. The regular season begins on March 26 when all 30 teams play.

These were just some of the mouthwatering treats we caught in the picture above taken at our bakery counter earlier this week. While we can’t guarantee which of these will be there the next time you stop in, we do encourage you to check the bakery counter every time you swing by Katie’s because there seems to be something new cropping up just about every other day!

Slowly Braised Bone-In Beef Short Rib

New in CV Steak!

While we were focusing on the Super Bowl and Tanya Tucker’s Grammy nominations the last couple of weeks we neglected to let everyone know we’ve added some new entrées and appetizers in CV Steak. We haven’t tried them all yet, but we do really want to recommend the Slowly Braised Bone-In Beef Short Rib pictured above. This “immediate hit” is served with red wine demi-glaze, Yukon gold mashed potatoes (you can also choose baked or au gratin), vegetable and, of course, the CV Steak signature tableside tossed salad. Next week we’ll try to take a picture of the new Ahi Tuna Poke appetizer. Meanwhile, grab your reading glasses and check out the full menu!

Our "people" are dotting the I's and crossing the T's on the arrangements for at least two more 2020 concerts in TJ's Corral as we march towards finalizing our seven or eight-concert schedule. The replacing of all the “line” equipment in Katie’s kitchen is progressing rapidly and we expect to be finished and have Katie’s reopened sometime Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. Meanwhile the daily buffets in the Valley Ballroom will continue until Katie’s reopens. Also, until Katie's reopens we are not offering “to-go” orders or Bar Snacks and the Bakery Counter is temporarily closed. Thanks for your patience - we're almost finished.

Tanya Garners Two Grammy Awards!

A big huge Carson Valley Inn Congratulations goes out to Country Music Legend Tanya Tucker for winning two Grammy Awards this past Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Tanya won Best Country Song of the Year for “Bring My Flowers Now” and Best Country Album of the Year for “While I’m Livin’.” We are super excited to tell her congratulations in person when the CMT Next Women of Country Tour featuring Tanya Tucker and special guest Aubrie Sellers hits TJ’s Corral on Saturday June 6! Special CVI Buffets Next Week, Mother’s Day Weekend Package, More at the Carson Valley Inn

Buffet Lovers Come On Inn!

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets will be served in our Valley Ballroom next week while we close Katie's for a few days for equipment upgrading and remodeling in the kitchen “line” area. Starting early Monday, January 27 you can enjoy a Breakfast Buffet in the Valley Ballroom from 6 AM to 11 AM for just $8.99 featuring an omelet station. The daily Lunch Buffet will run from 11 AM until 2 PM for $9.99 and a Dinner Buffet will be available from 4 to 8 PM for $10.99. The lunch and dinner buffets both include a soup & salad bar and a carving station. This special buffet service will run for two – four days until the Katie’ remodeling is completed. If you watched the Chiefs-Titans AFC championship game last Sunday you learned that Tanya Tucker was added to the performers list for this Sunday's 62nd Annual GRAMMY Awards on CBS (5:30 PST). Nominated for four Grammys this year, Tanya will be performing with her good friend and producer/collaborator Brandi Carlisle. Mother's Day Weekend Hotel Package

Eagles & Agriculture This Weekend

Cameras, binoculars, and telephoto lenses will be hanging around the necks of many of our guests this weekend as Eagles and Agriculture, Carson Valley's annual gathering of eagles and celebration of agriculture, headquarters at the Carson Valley Inn. As of today, the Thursday Opening Reception held at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center and the Friday Falconers Dinner at the Carson Valley Inn still have availability. Some of the tours are sold out but the sponsor, the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, invites you to call them at 775-782-8144 to check last minute availability or possibly get on a waiting list. The first Nevada Ducks Unlimited event of the year takes place in our Valley Ballroom on Super Bowl eve with all-new merchandise for 2020!! Great food, fun, games and plentiful auction are all part of the evening to raise funds for the conservation and protection of critical wetland habitats! Sports Book Mike’s Musings: Our thanks to Mike in the Sports Book for his quips each week. The pundits, prognosticators, talking heads, bloggers, tweeters and other “experts” are flooding us with more Super Bowl info than we can possibly absorb so Mike is “over and out” for the season!
Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot wound up at $5,078 and we will give it away after the Super Bowl game on February 2! The special $5 Pro Pick’em parlay cards will be out the middle of next week and we’ll have all the details on how this can (will!) be won in our weekly blog next Wednesday.
Seasonal Wagers on board this week include The Super Bowl, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey, the Daytona 500 on February 16 and Horse Racing.
Futures Bets on the board include: 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship, 2020 Stanley Cup, 2020 World Series and 2020 NASCAR Championship.
