$6,250 Guaranteed Friday, another $5,116 Sunday plus Much More at the Carson Valley Inn

Kim and Julie at Odds Over Sunday's Game
Super Sunday: Differences to be Settled
$5,116 Progressive Jackpot Guaranteed
  • Kim and Julie (pictured above) agree on just about everything. Even after Kim recently transferred to Bodines Casino, they remain great friends, share a lot of interests and do a lot of things together. However, when it comes to football, they couldn't be in a more conflicted position this weekend: Julie is an avid 49er fan with plenty of Niner memorabilia and an excitement for seeing their resurgence culminate in a championship. Kim is a die-hard Chiefs fan and also has a whole bunch of KC garb  to prove it. The three things on which they do agree for this Sunday: they both think it will be a good game, the winning team will definitely have red in their colors and whoever wins, their friendship will survive!
  • The winner(s) of our Pro Pick’em $5,116 Progressive Jackpot will be determined this Sunday!!  The special $5 Pro Pick’em Parlay Card is available now at CVI, Bodines, SlotWorld and Sharkey's. There are 15 prop bets to pick, all related to this Sunday's 49ers – Chiefs game. We’ve made ‘em easy as a half-dozen of the props can end in “ties” which results in both sides of the pick being marked correct! Whoever picks the most wins the Progressive Jackpot! Any ties will be split. Play as many cards as you like – there's no limit! Please, hang on to your tickets. We'll know by Tuesday morning which ticket(s) had the most correct picks. However, we won't know who bought the ticket(s) so it's up to you to come in and claim your prize. We don't have a way of finding you and chasing you down. Good luck!
  • Super Sunday in the Casino: We’ll have the game on the Cabaret Big Screen and on most of the TVs in the Casino, Cabaret Bar, CV Steak Bar and Poker Room. $2 Coors & Coors Light Drafts will be served during the game, Bar Snacks delivered to your seat and Hot Seat Cash Giveaways after the game with the chance to win up to $1,000!
  • Seasonal Wagers on board this week include The Super Bowl, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey, the Daytona 500 on February 16 and Horse Racing.
  • Futures Bets on the board include:The 2020 Masters, 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship, 2020 Stanley Cup, 2020 World Series and 2020 NASCAR Championship.

All the details are at this link and we invite you to leave the kids with mom and visit us for a romantic weekend with your spouse . . . or perhaps your situation is more suited for treating your parents to a special getaway treat.

From the Sports & Race Book
  • Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
    • How important are matchups?  Clemson & LSU was about as good a matchup as one could ask for.  Both undefeated.  LSU looked to be one of the best college teams ever.  Clemson hadn't lost a game through 2 seasons.  How lucky we are!
    • When the Texans were up 24-0 against the Chiefs, I thought the Titans/Texans matchup would be confusing.  Not just from all of the T's angle - Tennessee, Texas, Titans, etc.  As an old-timer, I still get the Titans and Houston Oilers confused - same color scheme, and the Titans were the Oilers several years ago.  With either team, Titans or Texans, I think oh, that team from Houston.
    • In any case, I wouldn't think many folks would be excited about a Titans/Texans matchup.  At least not folks around here.  Which of course leads into what matchup would the NFL like in the Super Bowl?  I would guess that the execs are rooting for Kansas City this weekend.  The Titans are a great story, but not quite as photogenic.
  • Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot survived again last weekend so it’s up to $4969 for this weekend's Divisional Championship games. Pick all 15 winners on the $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. If it doesn't “hit” this weekend, the jackpot climbs based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s, Bodines and SlotWorld and we’ll give it all away on the Super Bowl Game! At that point, the jackpot will go to the person or persons (ties are split) who picks the most out of  the15 Props for the Super Bowl game.
  • Seasonal Wagers on board this week include The NFL Divisional Championship Games, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey, the Daytona 500 on February 16 and Horse Racing.
  • Futures Bets on the board include: 2020 Super Bowl, 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship, 2020 Stanley Cup, 2020 World Series and 2020 NASCAR Championship.

Dressler Family Ranch Honored, Boys & Girls Club Event Details, Tanya Tucker on CBS, More from the Carson Valley Inn

Heritage of Dressler Family Ranch
Honored Saturday at Sharkey’s
The heritage of the Dressler Family Ranch will be honored this Saturday when Snowshoe Thompson Chapter # 1827 of the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus dedicates a plaque on the front of Sharkey's recognizing the special bond that Fred Dressler and the Dressler Family had with Sharkey Begovich, the original owner of Sharkey's Casino.  Fred's friendship with Sharkey developed and flourished during the years when Sharkey owned the casino starting in the 1970s and extending into the early 1990s. Fred, his son Frederick, son-in-law Louis Bergevin and other members of the ranch crew had many meals at Sharkey's over the years, in large part because food was always available. 3 AM breakfasts were often at Sharkey's rather than at the ranch cookhouse. The same was often true for a late dinner because they had just completed the day's work at 9:30 PM.In the later years Fred's grandson Devere Dressler also joined in these meals.
The large bronze plaque recognizes the Dressler Ranch which had its start in the mid-1800s. The dedication will take place at 4 PM this Saturday, January 11 with a number of longtime local Carson Valley residents on hand.

Boys & Girls Club Benefit Details
Coach Mike Tice was on a Seattle radio station yesterday announcing many of the details for his two big charity events this summer, one of which is the Mike Tice Foundation Charity Event for the Kids here in Carson Valley with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. Coach also announced his new website and if you click here, you will go to the details on the Carson Valley event. He also told us the decision is getting very close on the exact location for the permanent Boys and Girls Club facility for the Carson Valley. We hope to find out even more when Mike and his wife Diane come to town in mid-January to visit with potential sponsors and chat with those interested in helping support this incredible event. The website has contact information and we suggest you “hit him up” now so he can work you into his schedule while they are here in a couple of weeks.

Tanya Tucker Tour Picking Up Steam
As we mentioned a few weeks ago, Tanya Tucker with special guest Aubrie Sellers will be performing in TJ's Corral on June 6 as part of her CMT Next Women of Country: Bring My Flowers Now Tour. As her Minden visit gets closer, we'll be covering more about this special tour, Tanya's resurgence, her 2020 Grammy nominations and more in our weekly blog. Meanwhile, promotion has already started for the tour and Tanya was featured on CBS Sunday Morning a few days ago. A short excerpt is in the video above and here's a link to the CBS article which also gives you the opportunity to view the full 9-minute interview covering  her career, family and her changing world. Tickets for the Tanya Tucker concert and the Charlie Daniels Band concert on June 26 are available through our website starting on this page. You can also stop by or call (775-783-6606) our hotel registration desk.

From the Sports & Race Book
  • Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
    • The one constant last week, in the NFL, was the low scoring.  All 4 games stayed under.  The other constant is quibbling about replay.  My favorite was the near game-ending play at the start of the second half of the Texans game - a ref dodges the toss from the kick returner, and then signals a TD for the Bills. How is a Ref's first game a playoff game? (Yes, Sheldon, that is sarcasm!)
    • Anyone tired of seeing Brady, Manning or Roethlisberger in the Super Bowl?  Yes, 15 of the last 16 Super Bowls included an AFC team led by one of those three: 8 for Brady, 4 for Manning and 3 for Roethlisberger. Don't look now, but the team that crashed the party was Joe Flacco's Ravens in 2013.  So, the Ravens are a natural to return this year.
    • Speaking of trends, I just read that only one team made the final eight last season and then again this season. That team is the Chiefs.
  • Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot survived the Wild Card Weekend so it’s up to $4822 for this weekend's Divisional Playoff games. Pick all 15 NFL winners on the $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. If it doesn't “hit” this weekend, the jackpot climbs for based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s, Bodines and SlotWorld. We'll continue this until it hits.
