Heritage of Dressler Family Ranch
Honored Saturday at Sharkey’s
The heritage of the
Dressler Family Ranch will be honored this Saturday when Snowshoe Thompson
Chapter # 1827 of the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus dedicates
a plaque on the front of Sharkey's
recognizing the special bond that Fred Dressler and the Dressler Family had
with Sharkey Begovich, the original owner of Sharkey's Casino. Fred's friendship with Sharkey developed and flourished during
the years when Sharkey owned the casino starting in the 1970s and extending
into the early 1990s. Fred, his son Frederick, son-in-law Louis Bergevin and other members of the ranch crew had
many meals at Sharkey's over the years, in large part because food was always
available. 3 AM breakfasts were often at Sharkey's rather than at the ranch
cookhouse. The same was often true for a late dinner because they had just
completed the day's work at 9:30 PM.In the later years Fred's grandson Devere Dressler also joined in these meals.
The large bronze plaque
recognizes the Dressler Ranch which had its start in the mid-1800s. The
dedication will take place at 4 PM this Saturday, January 11 with a number of
longtime local Carson Valley residents on hand.
Coach Mike Tice was on a
Seattle radio station yesterday announcing many of the details for his two big
charity events this summer, one of which is the Mike Tice Foundation Charity Event for the Kids here in Carson Valley with all
proceeds going to the Boys and Girls
Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. Coach also announced his new
website and if you click here,
you will go to the details on the Carson Valley event. He also told us the
decision is getting very close on the exact location for the permanent Boys and
Girls Club facility for the Carson Valley. We hope to find out even more when
Mike and his wife Diane come to town in mid-January to visit with potential
sponsors and chat with those interested in helping support this incredible
event. The website has contact information and we suggest you “hit him up” now
so he can work you into his schedule while they are here in a couple of weeks.

From the Sports
& Race Book
- Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
- The one constant last week, in the NFL, was the low scoring. All 4 games stayed under. The other constant is quibbling about replay. My favorite was the near game-ending play at the start of the second half of the Texans game - a ref dodges the toss from the kick returner, and then signals a TD for the Bills. How is a Ref's first game a playoff game? (Yes, Sheldon, that is sarcasm!)
- Anyone tired of seeing Brady, Manning or Roethlisberger in the Super Bowl? Yes, 15 of the last 16 Super Bowls included an AFC team led by one of those three: 8 for Brady, 4 for Manning and 3 for Roethlisberger. Don't look now, but the team that crashed the party was Joe Flacco's Ravens in 2013. So, the Ravens are a natural to return this year.
- Speaking of trends, I just read that only one team made the final eight last season and then again this season. That team is the Chiefs.
- Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot survived the Wild Card Weekend so it’s up to $4822 for this weekend's Divisional Playoff games. Pick all 15 NFL winners on the $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. If it doesn't “hit” this weekend, the jackpot climbs for based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s, Bodines and SlotWorld. We'll continue this until it hits. If the progressive isn’t won by Super Bowl Sunday, the jackpot will go to the person or persons (ties are split) who picks the most out of 15 Props for the Super Bowl game. And remember, you can play as many $5 parlay cards as you like each week.
- Seasonal Wagers on board this week include The NFL Wildcard Game., NCAA Football Bowl Games, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey and Horse Racing.
- Futures Bets on the board include: 2020 Super Bowl, 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship, 2020 Stanley Cup, 2020 World Series and 2020 NASCAR Championship.
- Football Extras:
- $2
Coors Light draft
at the Casino Bar or in the Cabaret Lounge during all televised NFL Playoff Games
and the NCAA Championship Game.
- Bar Snacks Delivered to Your Seat while you watch or play. Get the full menu and pricing at this link!
