Jet Ski Guaranteed Saturday, $209,000 for Boys and Girls Club, Concert News, More

Clint Black Sold Out
Now What?!
Yep, the Clint Black concert is Sold Out this Friday night so we’ll start with a big Thank You for the incredible support we have received for our 2018 concerts! And, sorry, even all the standing room is sold out for Clint Black so there will not be any tickets available on a walk-up basis.  So, now what?  Your best bet for enjoying a 2018 concert in TJ’s Corral is to plan on the Creedence Clearwater Revisited performance on Sunday, August 12. We still have tickets available and here’s an unusual twist: we have room availability in both our Hotel and our Motor Lodge for that Sunday! So why not make a reservation for the hotel, come by early that Sunday and enjoy a dinner in  Katie’s or CV Steak (be sure to make a reservation in CV Steak) and then catch the concert. If you have an extra day to spend, stay over on Monday night and enjoy the scenery and recreational activities available in our Valley. As for our other two concerts, there are still a few remaining tickets for Ted Nugent  on Wednesday, July 4 and Trace Adkins on Saturday, July 14. . . but please act very soon. Purchase tickets through ourwebsite which allows you to view the seating layout map and select your seat. You can also buy tickets in person at the Hotel Front Desk.

As a reminder, backpacks, large handbags, chairs and pets are not permitted at CVI concerts. Also, please take your sweater in with you as there is no reentry.

$209,000+ For the Boys and Girls Club
The 8th Annual Mike Tice Charity Weekend “For the Kids” over Father’s Day weekend scored big for the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch – Over $209,000 was raised!  A portion of this money will be used to offset operating costs for the coming year. The remainder, as has been the case the last few years, goes into a special fund set aside to build a new Boys and Girls Club facility just for the youth of Carson Valley.

Blood Drive Today
The All-American Blood Drive is today in our West Lot under the large electronic sign. The Blood Mobiles will be here taking donations from 10 AM till 6 PM.

This Week’s Quirky Days
We'll Make Your Waffles!

  • Saturday is Social Media Day. Good day to make sure you are connected to the CVI on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Monday is Anisette Day.  Here's a list of over thirty cocktails that use this anisette . . . How many do you recognize? How many have you tried?
  • Tuesday is Eat Beans Day. We have served Navy Bean Soup in Katie’s every day since the Carson Valley Inn opened in the summer of 1984! So, guess you could say we are “all in” on beans. Our blog writers have another favorite – order the Fish Tacos and ask to substitute Black Beans for Refried Beans!

So Says David A
Thanks, David A, for this glowing Recommendation on our Facebook page.  In turn, we thank all of our employees who provide the smiles and friendly service that make these remarks happen!! “My wife and I are on an extended stay here until our new home is built. Everyone from the management, staff, and housekeeping have gone out of their way to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. Love the friendly hospitality and smiles that greet us everyday. Absolutely will recommend to all friends and family. We give it 2 thumbs up and 5 Stars!”

Craps the Easy Way, Concerts Selling Out, Wine Walk on Longest Day, Coffee Carafes, More

Craps the Easy Way!
Craps is one of the most exciting casino games and, as a bonus, is the table game with the most favorable odds for the players. For some, it’s an adrenaline rush they totally understand. For others, it’s a something you watch from a few steps back because you’re either intimidated or haven’t had or taken an opportunity to learn in a non-intimidating environment. Wherever you fall in the spectrum, we now have the solution: our giant Craps machine just inside the front casino entrances ready for you to play 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Play for $1 (where can you do that on a live game!) or up to $200. Jump in while the game is already in action, grab a couple of friends and start your own action, or play on your own when no one else is around. As for learning the game, stop by when no one’s playing and use the various buttons on the left side to learn all about the rules, odds, and how you win or lose on any type of roll. Play the Pass Line, Field, Hard Ways or – for those who want to venture to the dark side – the Don’t Pass Line!

Clint Black Next in TJ’s Corral
A Few Standing Room Tickets
Remain for Clint Black June 29
Clint Black is next up on the TJ’s Corral 2018 schedule and the Friday, June 29 concert has less than 50 Standing Room tickets remaining. As a reminder, feel free to bring a blanket (no chairs) and relax on the slightly elevated grass area behind the seating section. If you’ve been to a TJ’s concert, you already know the grass area is pretty darn close to the stage. Following Clint, Ted Nugent rocks the TJ’s stage on Wednesday, July 4; Trace Adkins rolls in on Saturday, July 14 (limited tickets remain) and Creedence Clearwater Revisited  wraps up the season (unless we add something that falls in our lap) on Sunday, August 12. Purchase tickets through our website which allows you to view the seating layout map and select your seat. You can also buy tickets in person at the Hotel Front Desk.

Wanna Work Part Time?
Or Full Time But Want Afternoons Free?
  • Are you sort-of retired but still want to work a couple of days a week to stay socially connected and earn a few extra bucks?  Or, perhaps you are only available 4 hours a day and want to work during those free hours to maintain your sanity or save for a special purpose? Maybe you have restrictions on how much you can earn and a full time job would bust the limit? Whatever your situation, if you want to jump in on a part time basis we might just be able to accommodate your schedule! While we are looking to fill a number of full-time positions, some of our openings could also be perfect for reliable part-timers.
  • Here’s a possibility for anyone knowledgeable or experienced in baking . . . but you want or need the afternoons free: Our Baker’s Assistant position starts in the wee hours and you’re off for the day by noon . . . perfect for enjoying the outdoors, spending time with the kids, etc.
  • Check at this link for info on all of our open positions and feel free to call our HR folks at 775-783-6663 with any questions or to throw your hat into the mix for full or part time!
This Week’s Activities and Events
Swim a Lap, Workout, Soak!
  • Thursday is Daylight Appreciation Day which is a fancy way of saying the “longest” day of the year. Means there will be plenty of daylight for this month’s “Thirsty Thursday Wine Walk” in Gardnerville. Sip ‘n’ Show is this month’s theme and be sure to show us your official wine glass when strolling through Sharkey’s.  Demont and his crew have a Free Sharkey’s T-shirt for all official wine walk participants during this week’s event.
  • Thursday is also World Music Day. Enjoy your favorite genre and “mark” the day by latching onto tickets for one or more of our four remaining concerts in TJ’s Corral!
  • Saturday is Swim a Lap Day. If that’s your thing, and you’re a guest in our Hotel, Motor Lodge or RV Park, jump into our indoor pool on the second floor and get started! Complete your workout on one of the treadmills or the multi-station weight machine in the adjacent fitness room and then wind down with a soak in one of the hot spas while taking in the mountain views.
  • Next Wednesday, June 27 is the All-American Blood Drive here at the CVI from 10 AM till 6 PM. The Bloodmobiles will be parked in our lot along Hwy 395 near the big electronic sign and you can get on the schedule by calling 800-696-4484 or click here to schedule online.
So Says Brittany M
Thanks, Brittany M! We don’t know what brought you here a couple of weeks ago, or what you thought you’d find in Minden, NV, but we’re sure appreciative of your kind remarks as posted on TripAdvidsor: “I stayed at the Carson Valley Inn with my 70 year old grandmother. My expectations were low for this trip. A casino/hotel in a small town? Cheap rooms? What am I getting myself into!? The room was clean. The beds were comfortable. The towels were well stocked. The water pressure in the shower was amazing! Every employee we encountered was friendly and accommodating. The casino staff went above and beyond to make my grandmother happy. Nohema, was working in the casino. She was gracious and friendly even when my grandmother was not. Taj was a fantastic cocktail waitress that made sure we were happy and my grandmother was well taken care of. The staff made this trip so enjoyable for us, and I hope to return soon. Thank you to all of the staff at the CVI for making sure we had a wonderful trip!” We hope you’ll visit again soon and enjoy our community again!

At the Sports and Race Book
  • This week you can wager on the World Cup Soccer matches, College World Series games, Major League Baseball games, WNBA games, Canadian Football League games, the NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 at the sorta-nearby Sonoma Raceway and Horseracing.
  • Futures include winners of the World Cup Soccer, World Series, NASCAR Monster Energy Series, the NFL Conference Championships, the 2019 Super Bowl, the 2019 NCAA Football Championship and the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament!
  • If we are so big on the World Cup matches, why do our numerous electronic boards at our Sports Book offer a meager, “Please Ask About World Cup Lines?”  It finally gives us a chance to talk about soccer.  Also, our system does not display 3-way lines very well.  What is a 3-way line? That's a good question to ask the staff at the Sports Book!
In Our Restaurants
  • Wednesday is Italian Day in Katie’s – three specials for $6.99 each served from 11 AM to 10 PM! The Friday and Saturday night special in Katie’s is Roasted Prime Rib & Fried Shrimp for $14.99 served from 4 PM.

Kirk and Nicole Tracy’s Kid and Nic Show keeps the crowd dancing, singing and laughing along as they perform pop, rock, dance, oldies, current and classic country, 80's hits, Latin, funk, swing, blues, jazz and reggae. The show also features some fun "theme" medleys of songs from movies such as Grease, The Blues Brothers and Animal House.  Rock River is Buddy and Kim from the Buddy Emmer Blues Band presenting an evening of blues and other music!  Vocalist and songwriter Hans Eberbach sings for the band Joy & Madness, an evolution of vintage soul sound with modern classic pop sensibilities.

The Music includes continuous entertainment with The Blues Monsters, Buddy Emmer, Mighty Mike Schermer, Chris Cain and Nancy Wright. Beers and ales are being poured from breweries such as Hop Valley, Saint Archer, Alaskan, Shoetree, Brewers Cabinet, Sam Adams, Alibi, Oskar Blues, Ballast Point, Uinta and more. Wines will be available from Lava Cap, Michael David, Giesen, Renwood, Klinker Brick, Bogle, Juggernaut Hillside and others.  Pulled pork sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs are on the food menu. Tickets are just $25 and include all the music, a sampler glass and three “chits” towards your choice of beverage samplers or food. Additional chits are available for sale and ALL proceeds from ticket sales, extra chit sales and raffle tickets go to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. For tickets and other information please go to this link on the Boys and Girls club of Western Nevada website. Or, call Nick right now at 775-771-6816 and have your credit card ready. Kudos to The Pink House in Genoa for sponsoring this first night of the 8th Annual Mike Tice Charity Weekend “For the Kids”.

Granger Smith Featuring Earl Dibbles, Jr. appears live in concert on Saturday, June 16 and, contrary to what you might have heard, the event is not quite sold out as of the day this blog is being published. There was a short time last weekend when we exhausted all of the allotted Party Pit tickets. However, some quick juggling by Marketing Manager Julie Meza and Joey Whitacre, our Director of Marketing and Casino Operations, freed up some more Party Pit tickets and some are still available . . . so act quickly!  The remainder of our 2018 concert schedule includes:  Clint Black on Friday, June 29; Ted Nugent  Wednesday, July 4; Trace Adkins Saturday, July 14 and Creedence Clearwater Revisited  on Sunday, August 12. Purchase tickets through our website which allows you to see the seating layout map and pick you seat.

Would You??
“Things” sometimes happen in a strange manner around here. This one started innocently with a chat near the Penny Progressive bank between one of our blog writers and Dan Dykes, Commercial Sales Manager at Carson Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge. One thing led to another about what one could do with the jackpot and now we are asking this simple question: if you won our Penny Progressive Jackpot, would you buy the 2019 Dodge Ram1500 Limited Crew Cab 4 x 4 pictured?  This progressive jackpot can only be won at either the Carson Valley Inn, Bodines Casino, Sharkey’s Casino or Slot World Casino. So, someone at one of our four properties will eventually haul it in! About the sticker price? We kidded Dan that no one pays sticker price for a vehicle these days! Dan quickly quipped, “I’ll tell you what, when someone wins your Penny Progressive Jackpot and wants to come see me to buy this truck, I’ll make darn sure they don’t pay sticker price!”

Can You Cook?
We’re not talking making dinner for the family, we're talking about “Can You Cook” as in solid cooking experience.  We’re also talking full-time and all levels; sous chefs, line cooks and production cooks. With five restaurants in our four locations we have plenty of opportunities for you to be gainfully employed and, if your talents and interests warrant, even moving up the ladder while enjoying a pot full of benefits!  Cooking not one of your talents? Were also looking for Security Officers, Slot Floor People, Katie’s Servers and other positions . . . and we can always use another good bartender.  Check this link for info on all of our open positions.

Eclectic Week at the Sports Book
Even though the NBA Championship and NHL Stanley Cup winners have been crowned, there’s still quite a bit going on at the Sports and Race Book and this week brings betting opportunities for some of the outside-of-the-mainstream sports.  Let’s start with the most bet sporting event in the world, World Cup Soccer, officially referred to as the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018. The first match is Thursday (early morning our time) and the schedule of the daily matches can be found at this link.  You can bet which team will win the cup and you can also bet the daily matches. Also new on the board this week are the Canadian Football League (CFL) games which continue until the 106th Grey Cup on November 25. Who’s playing each week? Click here.  Still can’t let basketball go? The WNBA will take you through the summer and, yes, you can bet the games here! This weekend is the U.S. Open Golf Tournament and today is the last day to place wagers on who will win.   We still have Major League Baseball and Horseracing . . . and futures include winners of the World Series, NASCAR Monster Energy Series, the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, NFL Conference Championships, the 2019 Super Bowl and the NCAA Football Championship! Probably the most unusual line on the board this week is Nevada’s odds to win the NCAA Basketball Championship in 2019. For the first time since we’ve had a sports book, it’s an actual legitimate number rather than the standard “you gotta be kiddin’ me” odds you usually see for the teams that haven’t the proverbial "snowball's chance in hell!"  What are the odds? Hey, once in a while we have to make you come in to see what’s happening rather than reveal everything in our blog! As for NASCAR this weekend, off for Father’s Day!

This Week’s Fun

Granger or Earl?, Music-Food-Brew Fest Info, Summer Sporting Clays, More

Who Are These Two Guys???
Granger Smith Next Concert in TJ’s Corral
Granger Smith is coming to TJ’s Corral on Saturday, June 16 and we’re hoping to get to the bottom of the difference between the identities of Granger Smith and Earl Dibbles, Jr. They both list the same tour dates, they both look very similar, they’ll both be here on the same night, but something’s not making sense to us. Just who is this Earl Dibbles, Jr.? Guess we’ll all find out when Granger Smith Featuring Earl Dibbles, Jr. appears live in concert on Saturday, June 16.  Join us!

But First A Night of Food, Blues and Brews
In our May 16 Blog we mentioned the music side of the Carson Valley Music, Food & Brew Fest in TJ’s Corral on June 15, the kickoff event for the 8th Annual Mike Tice Charity Weekend “For the Kids”. For a quick review of the artists (Blues Monsters, Buddy Emmer, Mighty Mike Schermer, Chris Cain and Nancy Wright ) check out this advance article by Tim Parsons of Tahoe OnStage. Summer Fun Sporting Clays
The CVI Summer Fun Sporting Clays – the summer version of our Winter Clay Shooting event – is coming up on August 5 – 7 and we’re looking forward to trading the coats and gloves for t-shirts and sunscreen! After an opening reception at the CVI on Sunday night, participants will enjoy two days of attempting to chase down a total of 300 clay targets, first at the Walker River Resort and then at Carson Valley Clays.  We’ll wrap it all up with dinner at JT Basque Restaurant & Bar on Tuesday evening. All the details are in the flyer at this link and we hope anyone who enjoys this always fun yet sometimes frustrating shotgun sport will join us!

This Week Around Here
  • Thursday is Chocolate Ice Cream Day. Yep, we have plenty of it in Katie's and we invite you to enjoy some before or after you attend . . .
  • Douglas High School and ASPIRE Academy High School graduation ceremonies are also Thursday: Congratulations to the many graduating seniors who have worked,or still or do work, at the Carson Valley Inn or Sharkey's Casino. Looks like the weather will be perfect as you transition to the next phase of your lives.
  • Carson Valley Days is this Weekend: Lots of activity in the area this weekend with the traditional Carson Valley Days Golf Tournament, Softball, Saturday Parade, Carnival and Entertainment at Lampe Park and much more,
  • Saturday is World Gin Day. To celebrate it this weekend, we have plenty of gins from which to choose here at our Carson Valley Inn bars. Then, come back again in about six months when the Bently Heritage facility opens a few steps out our front casino entrance. Word is this incredible Estate Distillery will be producing three varieties of gin, one with the piñon cone as an ingredient! We've been on multiple tours of this facility, the most recent earlier this week, and we can clearly see the end result will be spectacular!
  • What do You Think of When You Read “Camden, NJ?” OK, so this is totally unrelated to the CVI but we bet Drive-In Movie wasn’t the first thing that came to mind! Seems that on June 6, 1933, 85 years ago today, the first Drive-In-Movie facility opened in Camden, NJ!
Last Week Look Back

This ½ size replica Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. was respectively and solemnly visited by many thousands over the five days.
