Kenny G Joins Concert Lineup, 9th Anniversary Fun, More from the Carson Valley Inn

Kenny G Joins 2019
TJ’s Corral Concert Lineup
Phenomenally successful jazz artist Kenny G will take over the TJ’s Corral stage on Saturday, June 8 and tickets go on sale at noon today! Since the concert is only two months away, we deviated a little from our normal pattern and announced this additional concert on our social media platforms last Friday. In the future, we’ll attempt to go back to making concert and other entertainment announcements in our weekly Wednesday morning blog. However, just to make sure you’re always getting the latest news, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. With the addition of Kenny, our 2019 Concert and Event Lineup as we have it so far is Sister's Easter Catechism on April 20 (see next story), Easton Corbin on May 24, Kenny G on June 8, Uncle Kracker on June 29 (tied to the Mike Tice Charity Event – see story below), Joan Jett and the Blackhearts on July 4, Dwight Yoakam on July 26 (only a few handfuls of tickets remain) and Martina McBride on August 4. For tickets, check this page on our website or stop by the hotel front desk.

Easter Catechism Update
Sister’s return to the Carson Valley Inn is just over a week away and in the video above she chats about the importance (or lack thereof) of the furry stuffed Easter Bunny as it relates to the holiday. Her antics are hard to predict and the outcome is guaranteed to be quite humorous during her Sister's Easter Catechism shows in our Valley Ballroom on Saturday, April 20. Get your tickets now online at this link or at our hotel desk while you are here at CVI.

Coach Mike Tice Invites You
to Join Him for Lunch Today!
Mike Tice Invites You to Lunch Today – On Him!
“Coach” Mike Tice has some exciting news about his annual Mike Tice Charity Event “For the Kids” in the Carson Valley to raise money for our community’s Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch.  Mike invites you to join him for an informal lunch today, April 10 at noon at Chicago Mike’s. You’ll learn about the much more affordable ways community members can participate in the 2019 event (June 28 – 30), get a chance to talk one-on-one with the former NFL player and coach, and get a peek at where we stand in raising the money to build a permanent facility for the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. No Need to RSVP – and no pressure to empty your wallets on the spot. Just show up by noon and be ready for a tasty lunch and “colorful” time!

New Menu Items in Katie’s
Some new items were added to the Katie’s menu last week and we’re still in the process of trying them all – we’ll have more in next week’s blog.

Anniversary Celebration
It was about this time ten years ago when the announcement was made the Carson Valley Inn was being sold to a man named Mike Pegram. The rest of 2009 was a blur as all the due diligence was completed, licenses were approved and the hundreds of other steps necessary to make the transition were put into place. Mike took over shortly after midnight on January 4, 2010 and over the next few hours the remodeling of our casino was well underway. That construction project (first of many) went nonstop until April when progress was to the point where it could be declared that we were up and running without visible construction in progress. And thus, every April we celebrate the anniversary of Mike’s ownership. Nothing elaborate – that’s not Mike’s style – so join us on April 14 and 15 for these little anniversary extras:

Righteous Brothers Friday, Travis Tritt Next Week, Much More

Bill Medley – What a Story!
Touring with The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, performing the most played song on the radio in the 21st Century, early recording technology, teaming up with recording industry legend Phil Spector . . .  this is all part of the storied past of Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers and it’s covered in this interview with Bill done last week by Tim Parsons of Tahoe Onstage. The interview also includes Bill’s description of what it was like to be a “blue-eyed soul” artist in the mid-sixties and why he resurrected the act and hooked up with Bucky Heard. We invite you to read the article, reminisce, and react by seeing it all unfold before your eyes this Friday as The Righteous Brothers: Bill Medley & Bucky Heard perform in TJ’s Corral!

“The Rest of the Story”
Photo by Kathy Port, courtesy of Eagles & Ag
In our April 18 Blog we mentioned we were aware that our billboard on Highway 395 across from Sunridge Golf Course was still showing the promotion we ran in February and March. We also mentioned that the backstory would come out in time. So, while not dramatic or lengthy, here it is:  Turns out a hawk built a nest on the sign structure which put it totally off-limits until the babies hatched and flew away. First, that’s the law – all hawks and owls are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Second, even if we could have convinced the feds the sign could be changed without disturbing the baby hawks in any way (not an option) the territorial nature of hawks made it virtually impossible to get anywhere close to the nest without them mounting a “protective posture.”  So, as rightfully they should have done, the sign company waited until the coast was clear so they could proceed under the law and without presenting any danger to their crews. In the process, we learned more than we ever thought we’d know about how long it takes for the eggs to hatch,  how long until the babies leave, what hawks eat (when not trying to nibble on sign crews), etc.  Anyway, just “one of those things” beyond our control!

A Little Look Back and More of a Look Forward
Last Week at the Inn
  • In his CVI appearance last week, Nevada Football coach Jay Norvell was like night and day compared to his 2017 CVI appearance last May. We were impressed with the progress and the outlook for the 2018 season.  Read more about the coach’s thoughts in this article posted by Record Courier Sports Editor Dave Price.
  • Over 1,000 people attended Bandtastic 2.0 on Saturday and we cannot offer enough positives about how cooperative and helpful the students and teachers were in setting up, tearing down and cleaning up after the event. Kudos to the musically inclined youth of our community and their parents!
  • We asked the staff at Sharkey’s about last Thursday’s Wine Walk and . . . well, seems like they all had too much fun! Don’t miss the next Wine Walk on Thursday, June 21 as the Sharkey's Bartenders will have a Free T-Shirt for each participant who stops in during the event.
  • What a display of pink, motorcycles and combinations of both at and near our casino entrance during Sunday’s Ride for the Tatas.  Definitely not something we see around town on a normal Sunday!

Rockin' Country at Super Bowl and TJ's Corral, Mike Tice Event for the Kids, Golf, Blueberry Pie and More

Super Bowl 1994 Halftime Show
Ties to TJ's Corral!
The 1994 Super Bowl halftime show was called a "Rockin' Country Sunday" and, get this, the show featured 4 names who would all appear in TJ’s Corral over 20 years later: Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt and Wynonna Judd - with a special appearance by Naomi Judd for the finale. The show included dancers with yard-long light sticks and it was the first Super Bowl halftime show in which the main stadium lights were turned off for the performance. Fast forward 20+ years: Tanya appeared in TJ’s Corral in 2015, Wynonna opened the 2017 TJ’s concert season and both Travis (June 1) and Clint (June 29) are performing at TJ’s this year!

Our full 2018 Concert Lineup includes The Righteous Brothers: Bill Medley & Bucky Heard on Friday, May 25; Travis Tritt on Friday, June 1; Granger Smith on Saturday, June 16;  Clint Black on Friday, June 29; Ted Nugent on Wednesday, July 4, Trace Adkins on Saturday, July 14;  and Creedence Clearwater Revisited on Sunday, August 12.

Your best and fastest bet for purchasing tickets for any TJ’s Corral concert is through our website which allows you to see the seating layout map and pick your seat(s) for one or more concerts in one transaction. You can also purchase tickets in person at our Hotel Desk. Important Note: A few of these concerts are selling through fast – please don’t miss out.

The 1994 Super Bowl game itself? The Dallas Cowboys handed the Buffalo Bills their fourth consecutive Super Bowl loss, 30 – 13.

Mike Tice Event – For the Kids!
The 8th Annual Mike Tice “For the Kids” charity weekend is quickly approaching and both Coach Tice and the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada are inviting the community to get more involved this year.  Since all money raised by this event is matched by CVI owner Mike Pegram for the benefit of the Boys and Girls Club Carson Valley Branch, the more involvement, the more benefit to the kids! The weekend kicks off with the Carson Valley Music and Brew Fest on Friday, June 15 from 4 to 10 PM in TJ’s Corral and tickets are only $25.  Saturday, June 16 is the Granger Smith Concert at 8 PM with tickets starting at $29. Sunday brings the Charity Golf Tournament at Genoa Lakes Golf Club followed by an evening BBQ Dinner with cocktails, live music and a live auction in TJ’s Corral.  We’re looking for some additional generous sponsors and participants and all the details are on the MikeTiceForTheKids website!

So, gentlemen, this is a friendly reminder that Mother’s Day is only two weeks from this coming Sunday. To help you make your plans, here’s a quick recap of the dining options for Mother’s Day at the Carson Valley Inn – and two of these events are enhanced by advance reservations:
