Heritage of Dressler Family Ranch
Honored Saturday at Sharkey’s
The heritage of the Dressler Family Ranch will be honored this Saturday when Snowshoe Thompson Chapter # 1827 of the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus dedicates a plaque on the front of Sharkey's recognizing the special bond that Fred Dressler and the Dressler Family had with Sharkey Begovich, the original owner of Sharkey's Casino.  Fred's friendship with Sharkey developed and flourished during the years when Sharkey owned the casino starting in the 1970s and extending into the early 1990s. Fred, his son Frederick, son-in-law Louis Bergevin and other members of the ranch crew had many meals at Sharkey's over the years, in large part because food was always available. 3 AM breakfasts were often at Sharkey's rather than at the ranch cookhouse. The same was often true for a late dinner because they had just completed the day's work at 9:30 PM.In the later years Fred's grandson Devere Dressler also joined in these meals.
The large bronze plaque recognizes the Dressler Ranch which had its start in the mid-1800s. The dedication will take place at 4 PM this Saturday, January 11 with a number of longtime local Carson Valley residents on hand.

Boys & Girls Club Benefit Details
Coach Mike Tice was on a Seattle radio station yesterday announcing many of the details for his two big charity events this summer, one of which is the Mike Tice Foundation Charity Event for the Kids here in Carson Valley with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. Coach also announced his new website and if you click here, you will go to the details on the Carson Valley event. He also told us the decision is getting very close on the exact location for the permanent Boys and Girls Club facility for the Carson Valley. We hope to find out even more when Mike and his wife Diane come to town in mid-January to visit with potential sponsors and chat with those interested in helping support this incredible event. The website has contact information and we suggest you “hit him up” now so he can work you into his schedule while they are here in a couple of weeks.

Tanya Tucker Tour Picking Up Steam
As we mentioned a few weeks ago, Tanya Tucker with special guest Aubrie Sellers will be performing in TJ's Corral on June 6 as part of her CMT Next Women of Country: Bring My Flowers Now Tour. As her Minden visit gets closer, we'll be covering more about this special tour, Tanya's resurgence, her 2020 Grammy nominations and more in our weekly blog. Meanwhile, promotion has already started for the tour and Tanya was featured on CBS Sunday Morning a few days ago. A short excerpt is in the video above and here's a link to the CBS article which also gives you the opportunity to view the full 9-minute interview covering  her career, family and her changing world. Tickets for the Tanya Tucker concert and the Charlie Daniels Band concert on June 26 are available through our website starting on this page. You can also stop by or call (775-783-6606) our hotel registration desk.

From the Sports & Race Book
  • Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
    • The one constant last week, in the NFL, was the low scoring.  All 4 games stayed under.  The other constant is quibbling about replay.  My favorite was the near game-ending play at the start of the second half of the Texans game - a ref dodges the toss from the kick returner, and then signals a TD for the Bills. How is a Ref's first game a playoff game? (Yes, Sheldon, that is sarcasm!)
    • Anyone tired of seeing Brady, Manning or Roethlisberger in the Super Bowl?  Yes, 15 of the last 16 Super Bowls included an AFC team led by one of those three: 8 for Brady, 4 for Manning and 3 for Roethlisberger. Don't look now, but the team that crashed the party was Joe Flacco's Ravens in 2013.  So, the Ravens are a natural to return this year.
    • Speaking of trends, I just read that only one team made the final eight last season and then again this season. That team is the Chiefs.
  • Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot survived the Wild Card Weekend so it’s up to $4822 for this weekend's Divisional Playoff games. Pick all 15 NFL winners on the $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. If it doesn't “hit” this weekend, the jackpot climbs for based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s, Bodines and SlotWorld. We'll continue this until it hits. If the progressive isn’t won by Super Bowl Sunday, the jackpot will go to the person or persons (ties are split) who picks the most out of 15 Props for the Super Bowl game. And remember, you can play as many $5 parlay cards as you like each week.
  • Seasonal Wagers on board this week include The NFL Wildcard Game., NCAA Football Bowl Games, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey and Horse Racing.
  • Futures Bets on the board include: 2020 Super Bowl, 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship, 2020 Stanley Cup, 2020 World Series and 2020 NASCAR Championship.
  • Football Extras:
    • $2 Coors Light draft at the Casino Bar or in the Cabaret Lounge during all televised NFL Playoff Games and the NCAA Championship  Game.
    • Bar Snacks Delivered to Your Seat while you watch or play. Get the full menu and pricing at this link!

Rockin' Country at Super Bowl and TJ's Corral, Mike Tice Event for the Kids, Golf, Blueberry Pie and More

Super Bowl 1994 Halftime Show
Ties to TJ's Corral!
The 1994 Super Bowl halftime show was called a "Rockin' Country Sunday" and, get this, the show featured 4 names who would all appear in TJ’s Corral over 20 years later: Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt and Wynonna Judd - with a special appearance by Naomi Judd for the finale. The show included dancers with yard-long light sticks and it was the first Super Bowl halftime show in which the main stadium lights were turned off for the performance. Fast forward 20+ years: Tanya appeared in TJ’s Corral in 2015, Wynonna opened the 2017 TJ’s concert season and both Travis (June 1) and Clint (June 29) are performing at TJ’s this year!

Our full 2018 Concert Lineup includes The Righteous Brothers: Bill Medley & Bucky Heard on Friday, May 25; Travis Tritt on Friday, June 1; Granger Smith on Saturday, June 16;  Clint Black on Friday, June 29; Ted Nugent on Wednesday, July 4, Trace Adkins on Saturday, July 14;  and Creedence Clearwater Revisited on Sunday, August 12.

Your best and fastest bet for purchasing tickets for any TJ’s Corral concert is through our website which allows you to see the seating layout map and pick your seat(s) for one or more concerts in one transaction. You can also purchase tickets in person at our Hotel Desk. Important Note: A few of these concerts are selling through fast – please don’t miss out.

The 1994 Super Bowl game itself? The Dallas Cowboys handed the Buffalo Bills their fourth consecutive Super Bowl loss, 30 – 13.

Mike Tice Event – For the Kids!
The 8th Annual Mike Tice “For the Kids” charity weekend is quickly approaching and both Coach Tice and the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada are inviting the community to get more involved this year.  Since all money raised by this event is matched by CVI owner Mike Pegram for the benefit of the Boys and Girls Club Carson Valley Branch, the more involvement, the more benefit to the kids! The weekend kicks off with the Carson Valley Music and Brew Fest on Friday, June 15 from 4 to 10 PM in TJ’s Corral and tickets are only $25.  Saturday, June 16 is the Granger Smith Concert at 8 PM with tickets starting at $29. Sunday brings the Charity Golf Tournament at Genoa Lakes Golf Club followed by an evening BBQ Dinner with cocktails, live music and a live auction in TJ’s Corral.  We’re looking for some additional generous sponsors and participants and all the details are on the MikeTiceForTheKids website!

The Northern Nevada 2108 Golf Season
is Officially Teed Up!
  • Today is Golf Day – not to be confused with Golfer's Day which was earlier this month. Quite fitting, we say, as the first participants in this weekend’s CVI Spring Stag Golf Outing arrive today, the weather has been changing to golfer-friendly, the fairways and greens are that bright spring green and the northern Nevada golf season is teed up and ready to roll! We’ve already hosted our first half dozen of what will be almost 100 golf visits this year by groups from as few as 8 to over 100. Plan you group’s visit by contacting Greg today either by email or call him at 775-783-6615.
  • Thursday is Thank You Thursday. Thank You to all of our guests who stay in the hotel, motor lodge and RV Park; to all who patronize or restaurants; to those who play in the casino; and to the many who participate in meetings and banquets in our convention center. We appreciate your business!
