Loverboy Concert Friday

Loverboy brings their trademark red leather pants, bandannas, big rock sound and high-energy 40th Anniversary Tour to TJ’s Corral this Friday for yet another evening of classic Rock ‘n’ Roll! Loverboy has sold more than 10 million albums and their string of hits includes, in addition to the anthem “Working for the Weekend,” such arena rock staples as “Lovin’ Every Minute of It,” “This Could Be the Night,” “Hot Girls in Love,” “The Kid is Hot Tonite,” “Notorious,” “Turn Me Loose,” “When It’s Over,” “Heaven In Your Eyes” and “Queen of the Broken Hearts.” You’ll hear these and more as they kick off the weekend this Friday and tickets are available at This Link. Concert Throwback in TJ’s Corral

Looking back on the second week in August over the past five years we enjoyed Moe Bandy with TG Sheppard on August 8, 2015; Michael McDonald on August 8, 2017, Creedence Clearwater Revisited on  August 12, 2018 and the Eli Young Band on August 14, 2016. Been lots of Good Times in TJ’s Corral with lots more to come!

• Pat Benatar/Neil Giraldo last Wednesday: The concert was great with lots of nostalgia. Tahoe OnStage did a review with pictures, but nothing says it better than this comment on one of our Facebook posts: “In 1982 my Mom was 22 years old. I was 5. (Yes the math is correct) One of my fondest memories with this young amazing Mama was driving down 101 blasting Pat Benatar. Her #1 hit at the time was “Hit Me with Your Best Shot.” 37 years later we see her live. Together. Just as if I were in the backseat of her Red Roadrunner, wind in my hair, flying down 101 as a little girl. Blaring Pat. Amazing concert with an amazing woman. I love you Mom. I think you are an amazing woman. And I’d also like to think I turned out to be “OK”. A special night with a pretty special woman.”
• Martina McBride last Sunday: What a great finale to Martina’s 2019 Summer Tour and once again Pheonix Gruneich of Tahoe OnStage captured the evening in her pictures, article and comments from some in attendance. Perhaps coincidence, but Martina did a “cover” of Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me with Your Best Shot.”  We’ll take that kind of double-hit within five days anytime in TJ’s Corral!

• Katie’s Specials: Wednesday is Lasagna and Thursday is a Pork Chop in Ranchero Sauce. Fridays and Saturdays, Katie's offers a Roasted Prime Rib and Fried Shrimp Dinner special served with baked potato, vegetable and soup or salad from 4 to 10PM. Katie’s Sunday special is "The Chandler" Chicken Dinner including southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cole slaw from 2 to 10PM. Monday Katie’s features Chicken Piccata and the Tuesday special is a Burrito Grande, chicken or beef & beans in a flour tortilla covered with enchilada sauce & cheese with Spanish rice. The specials on Monday through Saturday are served from 11AM to 10PM.
• CV Steak: Wednesday’s special is Beef Tenderloin Brochette with bell peppers onions, cherry tomato and a spicy sweet and sour sauce. • Filet Mignon: Marilyn Monroe was purported to have said, “When you’re a failure in Hollywood, that’s like starving to death outside a banquet hall, with smells of Filet Mignon driving you crazy.” We’re not sure if this is true, but Tuesday is Filet Mignon Day and we do serve them in CV Steak. Thanks to everyone who helped make this Friday’s Dwight Yoakam Concert an early ticket sell-out! Will Call and the Box Office open at 4PM, the gates will open shortly after 7PM and the concert will start at 8PM.  Dwight is bringing songwriter and vocalist King Leg as his opening act - an unlikely but winning combination of vintage rock & roll, old-school country, and post-millennial cool! Four nights later Pat Benatar/Neil Giraldo take the stage on Wednesday, July 31 followed in another four nights by Martina McBride on August 4 and then Loverboy on August 9. What’s The Poop & Scoop on The Moo?

Last week we introduced the Minden Moo – our 35th Birthday event on August 16 & 17 honoring the long heritage and rich history of ranching and agriculture in the Carson Valley!  And since then we’ve updated the Minden Moo page on our website. By next Wednesday, we’ll be filling in a lot of the blanks: How to enter the horseshoe tournament and mechanical bull riding contest, what it will take to get into the Justin Lee concert and video recording, what kind of food will be available, etc. So, until then, either ask one of the local cows, keep checking our Minden Moo page or watch for our posts and tweets on Facebook or Twitter.

Looking back on this week in TJ’s Corral over the last five years: 38 Special gave us one of The 20 Best Arena Rock Songs of All Time when they performed Caught Up in You and many of their other hits on July 23, 2015. We “Heard It in a Love Song” – and in other songs, too when The Marshall Tucker Band appeared on July 28, 2017. The Temptations Review (R.I.P Dennis Edwards) brought us “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination,” “ain’t too proud to beg” and many more Motown classics on July 30, 2016.

• How did you do picking The (British) Open? We posted odds on 65 players prior to the start of last weekend’s final 2019 golf Major. Of those, 12 had odds of 25-1 or less. Of those 12, two missed the cut, seven finished outside of the top ten and only three were in the top ten: Brooks Koepka (originally 5/1) tied for fourth; Rickie Fowler (25/1) tied for sixth and Tommy Fleetwood (20/1) finished second. As for tournament winner Shane Lowery? We had him at 60/1 and yes, we did pay one very happy customer!

Third Thursday Wine Walk Sip ‘n’ Show

Sip 'n' Show is the theme for Main Street Gardnerville’s Third Thursday Wine Walk this week with a variety of artisans exhibiting at some of the participating businesses. Our sister property Sharkey’s Casino will fill your commemorative glass at a bargain and provide you with a chance to chow down before, during or after the “Walk” with snacks at the Silver Dollar Bar and full dining in the Jackpot Café. The Wine Walk fun runs from 4:30 to 7:30PM and you can register in advance online or “day of” at Gardnerville Station (1395 US Highway 395 N) or Big Daddy’s Bicycles (1546 US Highway 395 N).

Boys & Girls Club Scores Over $200,000!

Thanks to the generous support of many Carson Valley residents and businesses, plus a significant donation from Carson Valley Inn owner Mike Pegram, over $200,000 was raised June 28 – 30 for the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch.  The majority of these funds will go toward the building of a new permanent facility for the youth here in the Carson Valley.  Monies were raised during the Mike Tice Charity Weekend For the Kids in several ways including sponsorships, the  Music/Food/Brewfest and the purchase of foursomes and fun contests associated with the golf tournament. More was raised through the live auction and special raffle at the awards dinner plus direct donations from locals and people across the country. In its nine years this event has raised over $1.2 million for the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. We’re almost there . . . THANKS to all who participated in any way!

He Pocketed $83,057 Yesterday!

John from San Diego was in town with his wife last weekend visiting family in the Carson Valley.  For whatever reason they decided to stay a few extra days. Paid off quite handsomely when he lined up the symbols for the $83,057 Penny Progressive Jackpot at Sharkey's Casino Tuesday afternoon!

Arena Rock Coming to TJ’s Corral

A few years back The Village Voice ran an article naming The 20 Best Arena Rock Songs of All Time. Of these 20 classics, three have already been performed by the original artists live in TJ's Corral and two more, both in The Village Voice top ten, are yet to come this year. Find out more in this article! Now on to the particulars on our four remaining concerts: Dwight Yoakam on July 26 is unfortunately Sold Out so let’s skip right over it. The Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo Concert on July 31 is selling well but there are still tickets available so don’t miss out.  Pat Benatar’s staggering vocals and take-no-prisoners attitude, along with Neil Giraldo’s trailblazing artistry as a guitarist, producer, and songwriter forged the undeniable chemistry and unique sound that created some of rocks most memorable hits. Martina McBride on August 4 is getting close to being sold out so if you are interested, please jump on board soon. Loverboy on August 9 will wind up our traditional concert schedule unless something unexpected comes along. To This Week in Past Years

Despite the title of one of his most recognized hits, we had great weather on July 10, 2014 (the first full season for TJ’s Corral) when BJ Thomas performed his hits including “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” from the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Last year on July 14 Trace Adkins brought a strong classic country flavor to a totally sold out TJ’s Corral audience. And on July 15, 2016, Clay Walker entertained us with hits from his 11 albums!

Joan Jett Explodes on 4th

What a display of audio fireworks we had in TJ’s Corral last Thursday as Joan Jett & The Blackhearts “Dropped a ‘Cherry Bomb’” on TJ’s Corral! We borrowed that phraseology from the great review of the concert by Pheonix Gruneich of Tahoe Onstage. Be sure to check it out for pictures and some colorful comments from KOZZ radio personality Max Volume who was in the audience.

Running, Biking and Hiking! 

• Pictured above is “Team CVI” in Gardnerville’s annual Freedom 5K Run/Walk on July 4. The team of employees and some of their family members included veterans Kim Hill, US Navy (CVI Marketing) and Rosario Meza Jr., US Army (son of Julie Meza, CVI Marketing).
• Bicycles – about 2,000 of them – will be on our area’s mountain passes this Saturday during the annual Tour of the California Alps – Death Ride. Get all the details on the course including routes, elevations, distances, times, any road restrictions, etc. at This Link.
• If hiking is more your speed, be sure to check out the incredible system of trails in the Carson Valley by the Carson Valley Trails Association!

‘Cause We Haven’t Done This in a Few Weeks

• Thursday is Blueberry Muffin Day. Yep, we make ‘em in our bakery and sell ‘em in Job's Perk. 
• Friday is Kebab Day. The way to go at the CVI is to order the Seafood Brochette in CV Steak: Skewered halibut, salmon, shrimp, swordfish and scallops with a chili lime cilantro.
• Saturday is International Rock Day. We say skip the igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic stuff and cut right to the heart of Rock (‘n’ Roll) by getting yourself tickets to the July 31 Pat Benatar/Neil Giraldo Concert!

• Katie’s Specials: Wednesday is Lasagna for $7.99 and Thursday is a Pork Chop in Ranchero Sauce for $7.99. Fridays and Saturdays, Katie's offers a Roasted Prime Rib and Fried Shrimp Dinner special served with baked potato, vegetable and soup or salad for $14.99. Katie’s Sunday special is "The Chandler" Chicken Dinner including southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cole slaw for $6.99 from 2 to 10PM. Monday Katie’s features Chicken Piccata for $7.99 and the Tuesday special is a Burrito Grande, chicken or beef & beans in a flour tortilla covered with enchilada sauce & cheese with Spanish rice for $7.99. The specials on Monday through Saturday are served from 11AM to 10PM.
• CV Steak: Wednesday’s special is Beef Tenderloin Brochette with bell peppers, onions, cherry tomato and a spicy sweet and sour sauce.
