Thanks to everyone who helped make this Friday’s Dwight Yoakam Concert an early ticket sell-out! Will Call and the Box Office open at 4PM, the gates will open shortly after 7PM and the concert will start at 8PM.  Dwight is bringing songwriter and vocalist King Leg as his opening act - an unlikely but winning combination of vintage rock & roll, old-school country, and post-millennial cool! Four nights later Pat Benatar/Neil Giraldo take the stage on Wednesday, July 31 followed in another four nights by Martina McBride on August 4 and then Loverboy on August 9. What’s The Poop & Scoop on The Moo?

Last week we introduced the Minden Moo – our 35th Birthday event on August 16 & 17 honoring the long heritage and rich history of ranching and agriculture in the Carson Valley!  And since then we’ve updated the Minden Moo page on our website. By next Wednesday, we’ll be filling in a lot of the blanks: How to enter the horseshoe tournament and mechanical bull riding contest, what it will take to get into the Justin Lee concert and video recording, what kind of food will be available, etc. So, until then, either ask one of the local cows, keep checking our Minden Moo page or watch for our posts and tweets on Facebook or Twitter.

Concert Throwback in TJ’s Corral

Looking back on this week in TJ’s Corral over the last five years: 38 Special gave us one of The 20 Best Arena Rock Songs of All Time when they performed Caught Up in You and many of their other hits on July 23, 2015. We “Heard It in a Love Song” – and in other songs, too when The Marshall Tucker Band appeared on July 28, 2017. The Temptations Review (R.I.P Dennis Edwards) brought us “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination,” “ain’t too proud to beg” and many more Motown classics on July 30, 2016.

• How did you do picking The (British) Open? We posted odds on 65 players prior to the start of last weekend’s final 2019 golf Major. Of those, 12 had odds of 25-1 or less. Of those 12, two missed the cut, seven finished outside of the top ten and only three were in the top ten: Brooks Koepka (originally 5/1) tied for fourth; Rickie Fowler (25/1) tied for sixth and Tommy Fleetwood (20/1) finished second. As for tournament winner Shane Lowery? We had him at 60/1 and yes, we did pay one very happy customer!

• Katie’s Specials: Wednesday is Lasagna and Thursday is a Pork Chop in Ranchero Sauce. Fridays and Saturdays, Katie's offers a Roasted Prime Rib and Fried Shrimp Dinner special served with baked potato, vegetable and soup or salad. Katie’s Sunday special is "The Chandler" Chicken Dinner including southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cole slaw. from 2 to 10PM. Monday Katie’s features Chicken Piccata . and the Tuesday special is a Burrito Grande, chicken or beef & beans in a flour tortilla covered with enchilada sauce & cheese with Spanish rice. The specials on Monday through Saturday are served from 11AM to 10PM.
• CV Steak: Wednesday’s special is Beef Tenderloin Brochette with bell peppers, onions, cherry tomato and a spicy sweet and sour sauce. Thursday is the CV Steak Mix Grill, a combination of our Filet Mignon, a Dijon and molasses Marinated Pork Tenderloin Medallion and Herb Marinated Lamb Chop Steak.  This Friday’s special is Beer Braised Wild Boar Shanks slow cooked in beer, tomato, mustard and fresh herbs. Saturday nights CV Steak features Garlic Studded Prime Rib and the Sunday special is “Oscar Style” Fillet of Salmon with crab and Béarnaise sauce. CV Steak specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato – au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked – tableside tossed salad and warm sourdough baguette.

Great Night in Store for 38 Special Concert

Looks like we couldn’t ask for better weather as we mark the last day of summer with our 38 Special Concert this Friday in TJ’s Corral.  Might want to bring a sweater or light jacket as it could be a little chilly by the time the concert winds down and, we do have a no-reentry policy. Otherwise, we’re looking for spectacular skies and a great finale to our 2018 Concert Series. Live Comedy Details Set

Last week we announced that Core 4 Comedy is coming to our Valley Ballroom on Saturday, November 10 with Host Jeff Anderson, Special Guest Luke Westberg, Feature Act Andy Picarro and Headliner Brian Lee. Tickets are on sale for just $20 and we hope you’ll act soon as the Valley Ballroom has considerably less capacity than TJ’s Corral! We’ll be gaining a personal insight into what the night will bring when Brian Lee visits with us next Wednesday to “check out” the layout of our Valley ballroom. When the Penny Progressives Jackpot topped $40,000 earlier this week we went snooping in the casino to see what else was getting ripe. We found the Locomotive Grand Jackpot at over $13,000, the giant Buffalo Stampede jackpot in excess of $26,000 and the Fort Knox Progressive had topped $15,000. These are just some of the jackpots that are “getting’ up there” . . . there are plenty of others! Will you be our next 5-figure winner?

The season’s final Third Thursday Wine Walk is this week and it looks like temperatures will be in the low 80s for start time at 4 PM.  Sip ‘n’ Sounds is the theme and various musical groups and soloists will be performing at a few outdoor locations along Highway 395 including the Stratton Center, Mid-Town Center West and Mid-Town Plaza East. Naturally, Sharkey’s casino will be glad to fill your official wine walk glass when you stop by the Silver Dollar Bar. Might want to plan on grabbing dinner at Sharkey’s and then crossing the street to Heritage Park where the  “False Rhythms” Reggae band will be performing and free dessert will be served as Main Street Gardnerville celebrates their 10th Anniversary starting at 7:30 PM. Need a seat to watch the band? Sharkey’s will be distributing a limited number of fold-out chairs while the supply lasts to official Wine Walk participants . . . so get to Sharkey’s early!

There are a variety of acts joining U.S. Navy Blue Angels at the Aviation Roundup at Minden-Tahoe Airport in October and none is more “interesting” than the performance by Aaron Fitzgerald in the Red Bull BO-105 fully aerobatic helicopter. Quite an unusual sight to see a helicopter flying upside down . . . Most pilots will tell you it isn’t even possible. All this and more will fill the skies of Carson Valley on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14 and now is the time to buy tickets either online at this link or at the Raley’s Gardnerville store!

Core 4 Comedy is coming to our Valley Ballroom  November 10 with a night of hilarity showcasing four professional touring comics including Host Jeff Anderson, Special Guest Luke Westberg, Feature Act Andy Picarro and Headliner Brian Lee. Tickets will go on sale in the next few days and will be available online.

Headliner Brian Lee started doing stand-up comedy in 2000 and has gone from being a 10-minute opening act to headlining all over the United States and Europe.  In addition to being a veteran of the stage, he is also a Veteran of the U.S. military.  A combined 24 years between the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy has given him quite a unique perspective and the opportunity to perform around the world.  Brian invites all military to join him in honoring our veterans at the CVI on Veteran’s Day Weekend!

Brian’s motto has always been “talk about what you know,” and that’s just what he does. Drinking, relationships, lousy day jobs, family life, more drinking, and the possibility of a new religion are just a few of the topics Brian tackles. Brian also takes audience participation to a new level with his off-kilter game show, “Cerebral Punishment.” Brian is the co-founder of Core 4 Comedy, a.k.a. C4 Comedy which also includes the evening’s other three performers.

38 Special Concert Almost Here

38 Special has a sound that Stephen Thomas Erlewine defines as "halfway between country-fried blues-rock and driving, arena-ready hard rock."  Sounds like the perfect way to describe their more popular hits which include "Caught Up in You," "If I'd Been the One," "Back Where You Belong," and "Like No Other Night," Their hit ballad "Second Chance" probably doesn't fall under that definition, but it certainly was a smash!  All these and more will be on the playlist when 38 Special wraps up our 2018 Concert series in TJ’s Corral on Friday, September 21. The Club sandwich, and French toast. Our culinary hubris was found in err when the Monte Cristo Sandwich was invented.”  We doubt there really is a "Cook of Monte Cristo" and  we double checked to make sure that "hubris" was a real word and appropriate to the quote. Whether you’re looking for Flexibility, Opportunity or something in between, we invite YOU to stop by our Job Fair this coming Tuesday from 3 to 7 PM in the Convention Center at the Carson Valley Inn!  We’ll be hiring for full-time and part-time positions at all four of our properties: the Carson Valley Inn in Minden, Sharkey’s Casino in Gardnerville, and Bodines Casino and SlotWorld Casino in Carson City. Many positions have flexible scheduling and there's always an opportunity to grow within our company if there’s a match between our needs and your personality, ambition and talents!

Flexibility: Marissa worked for us full-time this summer as a hostess in Katie's and she now works weekends while applying herself midweek towards earning her AA degree at Western Nevada College. Miguel started as a busser in Katie's in 2015 and his attitude and work ethic quickly got him promoted to a server position. He's now working full time during the summer and weekends during the school year as he attends the University of Nevada. Says Miguel, “The company allows me to pursue my education yet keep earning money!"   Sandy works three 6-hour shifts in Job's Perk each week because “and I don't want to be home all the time, I wanted something to bring in a few extra dollars and keep my mind going while building new memories!”

Opportunity: As we have grown to four properties – with perhaps more on the horizon? – We continue to train from within. Jessica started as a busser in CV Steak, soon took on bartending, later moved to the casino floor as a slot attendant/cocktail server and slot lead position. She then went into our Manager On Duty (MOD) training program and is now part of the CVI MOD staff. Shalyn started as a server in Katie's back in 2006.  Two+ years ago she went into the MOD training program during which she worked at all four of our properties and is now one of the Managers on Duty at Sharkey's. Darren first worked at the CVI in Katie's and the old Michael's Restaurant when he was in high school.  He return to the CVI when he turned 21 and worked as a change person and slot key person before being promoted to his current position as slot lead/supervisor.

Who is attending the 38 Special Concert in TJ’s Corral on Friday, September 21? Hopefully it’s “Somebody Like You,” the title of the 38 Special hit from the album "Strength in Numbers" recorded for A&M Records and released in 1986.  You can buy tickets on our website or in person at the Hotel Front Desk.

• Over 40 HDTVs, the full NFL package, and the just about every major college game combine to  provide plenty of viewing opportunities in the Cabaret Lounge, Cabaret Bar, pit area, poker room and CV Steak Bar. Add in the HDTVs at Sharkey’s Casino, Bodines Casino and SlotWorld Casino and our combined football and other sports viewing possibilities exceed 100  screens!!

• Special Giveaways for Monday's Raider's/Rams Game:  We have an assortment of Raiders hats and t-shirts to give away during this Monday's Raider's/Rams game which is scheduled to kick off at 7:20 PM. • Bet Here/Collect There! Sports tickets can be cashed-in at Guest Services when the Sports Book is closed. Horse Race tickets can be cashed only when the Race and Sports Book is open. Winning sports bets placed at any of our four casinos (CVI, Bodines, Sharkey’s and SlotWorld) can be cashed at any of the four locations.
• What’s On The Board: This week you can bet NCAA and NFL Football, Major League Baseball, WNBA Championship Games, Canadian Football League, Sunday’s NASCAR Big Machine Brickyard 400 and Horseracing. • Sunday is Grandparents Day.  Here's a shout out to all of the grandparents who frequent the CVI! How about all of us with grandparents grab a couple of cupcakes at the Katie’s Bakery Counter and give ‘em to grandma and/or grandpa just to show your appreciation!
