Happy New Year, Polar Plunge Promotion, More from the Carson Valley Inn

We Wish All of Our Readers a
Very Healthy, Happy and Prosperous 2020

Take Our Polar Plunge
Lots of cash and FreePlay are up for grabs in our Polar Plunge promotion going on all of January and February. We make it simple: use your Inn Club card whenever you play at the CVI and you automatically accumulate one virtual entry ticket for every five points you earn. Every Friday and Saturday night between 6 and 8 PM we'll have drawings from these virtual entries and Hot Seats (random selections from those playing in the casino while using their Inn Club card.) We’ll have Cash and FreePlay prizes for those drawn and if you are selected to play our Polar Plunge board game on a Friday or Saturday night, you'll have a chance to "break the ice" for up to $1000!

Poker Room Hopping Next Two Mondays
  • If you won one of our Poker Room’s Opening Shootout Tournaments during November or December be sure to “be here” on Monday, January 6 for our Tournament of Champions event at 6 PM with no buy-in and $400 up for grabs.
  • Starting Tuesday, January 7 poker players will start earning squares into the Poker Room’s NCAA Championship Football game on Monday night, January 13. Earn a square for every qualifying winning hand during the week and get in on the $200 in prizes: $50 for each of the first three quarters and $50 for the final score.

Where Did It/They Go?
  • If you came in to the Carson Valley Inn, Sharkey's, Bodines or SlotWorld on Christmas Day you might've noticed that the Penny Progressive Jackpot was just over $10,000. You can thank Santa who landed his sleigh on the roof of Sharkey's Casino on Christmas Eve, came down the Sharkey's chimney, tapped one of our customers playing the Penny Progressive on the shoulder, and the result was a $69,084 Christmas present for one very lucky player! The gentleman politely asked that we do not use his name or show a picture and of course we always honor such requests. As he departed with check in-hand, his smile and demeanor indicated that others in his family were going to have a very nice Christmas the next day!
  • And remember those three Yeti coolers to be given away at the last Monday Night Football game? They were all claimed promptly, one each by Kyle W., James P. and Sydney D. – all of whom certainly understood their capacity, quality and beer-enhancing capabilities!
  • Going back to our Poker Room’s $1,000 Free Roll Tournament in early December, the top four finishers were Janice T. ($400), John C. ($300), Scott G. ($200) and Irene D ($200). Lots of fun down to the very end when the cash was doled out!

This Week’s Promotions Lineup
  • Wait One More Week: Ladies’ Night fun returns on January 8
  • Point Multiplier Friday: Earn 4 Points on slots and videos all day this Friday.
  • Polar Plunge Drawings and Board Game Friday and Saturday: Check the article above for details on the drawings between 6 and 8 PM each night.
  • Point Party Sunday: You’ll be earning anywhere from 2X to 10X Points from noon to 8 PM with the point multiplier changing every half hour. We guarantee the 10X Points will run for 30 minutes at least twice every Sunday in January.
  • Rollin’ for Cash Monday: Hot Seat drawings between Noon and 7 PM. All active players using your Inn Club card are “in the pot” for a chance to win up to $500!

From the Sports & Race Book
  • Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
    • NFL favorites went 9-7 against the spread last week.  Five of the dogs won; none bigger than those Dolphins who ended up winning five games this season.
    • Folks remarked that there were lots of high scoring games in the NFL last week.  As a matter of fact, 12 of the 16 games (75%) went over.
    • Interceptions were all the rage after the Tampa Bay game. Jamies threw another Pick 6 to get into the record books as the only NFL player to throw seven Pick-6 in one season and the only NFL Player with 30 TD passes and 30 INTs in the same season. Who has thrown the most career pass interceptions in the NFL? I was guessing Philip Rivers, who certainly has had lots of turnovers. Lots. But, he's well back of Brett Favre. Vinnie Testaverde is fourth - how in the world did he play 21 seasons? And who has the most among active QBs? How about Eli Manning!
  • Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot managed to make it through the regular NFL season without "hitting" so we continue it into the NFL playoffs and add a few simple proposition bets to get to the 15 selections on the card. The jackpot is up to $4762 for this weekend's Wildcard games - pick all 15 NFL winners on the $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. If it doesn't “hit” this weekend, the jackpot climbs based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s, Bodines and SlotWorld. We'll continue this through the NFL playoffs until it hits. If the progressive isn’t won by Super Bowl Sunday, the jackpot will go to the person or persons (ties are split) who picks the most out of 15 for the Super Bowl game. And remember, you can play as many $5 parlay cards as you like each week.
  • Seasonal Wagers on board this week include The NFL Wildcard Game., NCAA Football Bowl Games, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey and Horse Racing.
  • Futures Bets on the board include: 2020 Super Bowl, 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship, 2020 Stanley Cup, 2020 World Series and 2020 NASCAR Championship.
  • Football Extras:
    • $2 Coors Light draft at the Casino Bar or in the Cabaret Lounge during all televised NFL Playoff Games and College Bowl Games.
    • Bar Snacks Delivered to Your Seat while you watch or play. Get the full menu and pricing at this link!

They play the hits from Aerosmith and Amy Winehouse to Wilson Pickett and ZZ Top . . . and many artists in between. Bring your dancin’ shoes!

First Two 2020 Concerts Announced
What you may have been reading on social media since yesterday is true: In 2020 we’re bringing back two Concert Alumni from the early years of TJ’s Corral . . . with more concert announcements coming soon. Tanya Tucker was here in 2015 and she'll be returning 5 years later on June 6, 2020 with special guest Aubrie Sellers as part of her CMT Next Women of Country Bring My Flowers Now Tour. The Charlie Daniels Band was here in 2014 during the first full season of concerts in TJ's Corral. The CDB returns on June 26, 2020 as part of the Mike Tice Charity Weekend for the Kids. Tickets for both concerts go on sale at 10 AM this Friday, December 13 and more information is available on this page.

This Friday is the KTVN Share Your Christmas Community Food Drive to benefit the Carson Valley Food Closet bringing plenty of activity near our RV Resort entrance from 6 AM to 6 PM. Here’s everything you need to know to plan your visit:

  • Simply pull into our RV Park entrance anytime between 6 AM and 6 PM this Friday - plenty of volunteers (over 150 throughout the day) will be on hand to accept your donations, help unload your vehicle, give a snack to your dog and then weigh, sort and box tens of thousands of pounds of food in 12 hours!

  • Santa will arrive by CareFlight helicopter at 9:30 AM (weather permitting) and will be here for pictures until early afternoon. During this time, kids can explore, climb on and crawl in fire engines and one of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office SWAT vehicles. • The Douglas County Library’s new Bookmobile will be onsite from 9:30 AM to 5 PM with all features and services available.
  • Two Bloodmobiles will be accepting donations from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 800-696-4484 or visit this site and sign up on line! Donors receive free meatballs provided by Wolf Pack Meats and prepared by the Western Nevada CattleWomen.

Frozen Christmas Tree
Our Frozen & Disney Themed Christmas Trees
This week we're featuring the back stories on the Frozen and Disney Christmas Trees that frame the "Family Photo Op" scene that greets your eye as you descend the steps to the hotel lobby. We pinned down our Chief Decorations Elf Eileen Knox to tell us about each.
Now in its fourth year, the Frozen Tree started when Eileen wanted to do a winter themed tree with snowflakes, snowmen, white ornaments and the like. "My mind naturally went to the Frozen concept. When I was decorating trees in our house as a kid, I was always taught to use some of the items that were in the home. That early-life lesson comes out in the Frozen Tree and thus you’ll see, dispersed among the many ornaments, items such as stuffed animals, snowman hats, dolls, a small lunch pail, toys, tiaras and even ice skates. If you look close, you’ll see one or more of the frozen characters including Ana, Elsa, Olaf and Sven!
Disney Christmas Tree
When asked which tree was her favorite, Eileen answered quickly and with a warm smile. "I certainly like all of the trees but the Disney Tree is my favorite as is it combines the two things I like most about Disney: Mickey Mouse and candy treats!” Growing up in Southern California, my mother started giving me Disney ornaments when I was just a baby and I've been collecting them ever since." Eileen has been going to Disneyland all of her life and she created the Disney Tree in the theme of Disneyland Main Street USA. "If you look closely, you’ll notice it is the most densely decorated of our Christmas trees with a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. I look at it as an explosion of Christmas . . . even the lights are shaped like Mickey Mouse and Disney candy!"

Snowmobiling in Nearby Hope Valley

From the Sports & Race Book
  • Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
    • NFL favorites went 8-8 against the spread last week.  Five dogs won.
    • Have to hand it to the Patriots; they take all opponents seriously, even the Bengals!
    • How about those Broncos?  I don't really know what they're doing, but it seems to be working the last few weeks. They get 11 points against the Chiefs this week, so the odds makers don't seem to care what the Broncos have been up to.
    • The Bowl games don't get going until December 20th.  How can they possibly fit them all in?  I hope Santa doesn't get distracted.
  • Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot is $4,394 this week. Pick all 15 NFL winners on our weekly $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. Each week it is not “hit,” the jackpot climbs based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s, Bodines and SlotWorld.
  • Seasonal Wagers on board this week include NFL Football, the Army/Navy Game, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey and Horse Racing.
  • Futures Bets on the board include: 2020 NCAA Football Championship, 2020 Super Bowl, 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship and 2020 Stanley Cup.

    • Poker Room Squares Pool: Earn squares as you play in live poker games during the week. Each week we kick in $160 and the payout is on the Monday Night Football Game – $40 to the winners of the first three quarters and the final score. Any unclaimed prizes each Monday roll to the next week. Last week one quarter was claimed so the total pool remains at $640 or $160 a quarter for the December 16 Colts/Saints game!

Easter Catechism Comedy Tickets for Sale, Bartender's Day, More

She's Coming Back Easter Weekend!!!
Tickets on Sale Now
Tickets are on sale now for Sister’s Easter Catechism: Will My Bunny Go To Heaven? coming to the CVI on Saturday, April 20!  If you are catholic, used to be catholic, know people who are Catholic, dated someone Catholic, heard or told a Catholic joke or have ever seen a movie with Bradley Cooper (yep, he’s Catholic) you are certain to enjoy Sister's Easter Catechism. It’s a borderline irreverent and hilariously funny reflection on the guilt and fear that guided many a terrified soul into adulthood!  Sister will answer questions of the season like “Why isn't Easter the same day every year like Christmas?” and “Will My Bunny Go To Heaven?”  Sister's Easter Catechism will be presented twice on Saturday, April 20 in shows at 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM in the CVI Valley Ballroom. Both shows are the same – at least it starts out with that intention! Tickets are $22 inclusive and are available on line or at the Carson Valley Inn hotel desk. Classroom participation is a must, at least for those sitting up front or making eye contact with Sister when she is in “wooden ruler” mode!

One Approach to Next Wednesdays "Couples" Dress Up Contest
Getting Ready for Next Wednesday
We’ll have our traditional Wednesday Ladies’ Night festivities tonight from 5:30 to 8:30 PM but the “buzz” will be about getting ready for next week’s Couples Dress-Up Contest. As you can see in the picture above, Julie and Kim are depicting two friends dressed for next week’s contest. Fact is, we will be pretty liberal on the definition of a couple. Could be two friends, sisters, a traditional couple, a mother and son, mother and daughter, or any other combination including someone you might meet at tonight’s Ladies’ Night! All we ask is both people be 21 or over! For contest prizes next Wednesday, we’ll start by giving everyone who “makes an attempt” a ticket for one set of drawings for Free Play Prizes. Sometime around 8 PM next Wednesday we’ll turn it over to our judges to pick the best or cutest or most creative outfits (the judges volunteer, so they get to make some of their own rules) for the contest prizes. The ladies will also enjoy our regular Ladies’ Night games and prizes next week – see the This Week in the Casino section below.

Celebrating Our Bartenders this Sunday
Making These Days Special at CVI
And to the Drinks They Serve!!
  • As we mentioned last week, today is Cherry Pie Day. We have added a Mini Cherry Pie to our Katie’s Bakery Menu and you can check out all of our house-made bakery offerings by clicking here.
  • Friday is National Margarita Day. Just planting the seed so you can remember to order one here at the CVI on Friday – or any day!
  • Saturday is Open That Bottle Night. This day is traditionally for opening a bottle of wine you’ve been “holding” for a while. We have a better idea: Save your special bottle for another occasion and come into CV Steak this Saturday to enjoy a bottle (or even by-the-glass) from our CV Steak Wine List!
  • Sunday is World Bartender Day. The bartender seems to be everyone’s favorite person around here so stop by in the next few days and offer a smile and a “Happy Bartender Day!”
This Week in the Casino
  • Ladies’ Night Wednesday: join us tonight from 5:30 to 8:30 PM with a free Xtava Blowout Brush for the first 150 ladies and Tupperware Baskets Gift Baskets as hot seat prizes. You’ll also enjoy games, raffles, a weekly drink special & free bingo for ladies playing in the casino. What is an Xtava Blowout Brush?  Seems it’s a combination of a smoothing comb plus a heated rotating barrel . . . we’re still not sure what that means but the attractive box is surprisingly heavy and it has quite the creative product write-up on the back! Kim in our Casino Marketing department will be grabbing the first one as she wants to see how it handles this bad hair day:
Kim Before Using Her Xtava Blowout Brush
