Two 2020 TJ's Corral Concerts Announced, Guide to Friday's Food Drive, Much More from the Carson Valley Inn

First Two 2020 Concerts Announced
What you may have been reading on social media since yesterday is true: In 2020 we’re bringing back two Concert Alumni from the early years of TJ’s Corral . . . with more concert announcements coming soon. Tanya Tucker was here in 2015 and she'll be returning 5 years later on June 6, 2020 with special guest Aubrie Sellers as part of her CMT Next Women of Country Bring My Flowers Now Tour. The Charlie Daniels Band was here in 2014 during the first full season of concerts in TJ's Corral. The CDB returns on June 26, 2020 as part of the Mike Tice Charity Weekend for the Kids. Tickets for both concerts go on sale at 10 AM this Friday, December 13 and more information is available on this page.

Some of the KTVN Crew Coming Here This Friday!
Quick Guide to This Friday’s Food Drive
This Friday is the KTVN Share Your Christmas Community Food Drive to benefit the Carson Valley Food Closet bringing plenty of activity near our RV Resort entrance from 6 AM to 6 PM. Here’s everything you need to know to plan your visit:

  • Simply pull into our RV Park entrance anytime between 6 AM and 6 PM this Friday - plenty of volunteers (over 150 throughout the day) will be on hand to accept your donations, help unload your vehicle, give a snack to your dog and then weigh, sort and box tens of thousands of pounds of food in 12 hours!
  • Cash and food donations will be accepted and everything collected at the CVI location goes directly to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet. Non-perishables are the key and here is a link to the 2019 Most Wanted Items.
  • This year’s KTVN Channel 2 crew is Arianna Bennett, Angela Shilling and Marisol Bragg. Watch for them on TV and say hi when you drive through!!
  • Santa will arrive by CareFlight helicopter at 9:30 AM (weather permitting) and will be here for pictures until early afternoon. During this time, kids can explore, climb on and crawl in fire engines and one of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office SWAT vehicles. Oh – if CareFlight is grounded, Santa will arrive on one very large East Fork Fire District “sleigh.”
  • The Douglas County Library’s new Bookmobile will be onsite from 9:30 AM to 5 PM with all features and services available.
  • Two Bloodmobiles will be accepting donations from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 800-696-4484 or visit this site and sign up on line! Donors receive free meatballs provided by Wolf Pack Meats and prepared by the Western Nevada CattleWomen.
  • Emergency vehicles light the way before dawn and at dusk
  • All toys (new and unwrapped, please) donated at the Food Drive will go to Project Santa Claus.
  • See you Friday!!

Frozen Christmas Tree
Our Frozen & Disney Themed Christmas Trees
This week we're featuring the back stories on the Frozen and Disney Christmas Trees that frame the "Family Photo Op" scene that greets your eye as you descend the steps to the hotel lobby. We pinned down our Chief Decorations Elf Eileen Knox to tell us about each.
Now in its fourth year, the Frozen Tree started when Eileen wanted to do a winter themed tree with snowflakes, snowmen, white ornaments and the like. "My mind naturally went to the Frozen concept. When I was decorating trees in our house as a kid, I was always taught to use some of the items that were in the home. That early-life lesson comes out in the Frozen Tree and thus you’ll see, dispersed among the many ornaments, items such as stuffed animals, snowman hats, dolls, a small lunch pail, toys, tiaras and even ice skates. If you look close, you’ll see one or more of the frozen characters including Ana, Elsa, Olaf and Sven!
Disney Christmas Tree
When asked which tree was her favorite, Eileen answered quickly and with a warm smile. "I certainly like all of the trees but the Disney Tree is my favorite as is it combines the two things I like most about Disney: Mickey Mouse and candy treats!” Growing up in Southern California, my mother started giving me Disney ornaments when I was just a baby and I've been collecting them ever since." Eileen has been going to Disneyland all of her life and she created the Disney Tree in the theme of Disneyland Main Street USA. "If you look closely, you’ll notice it is the most densely decorated of our Christmas trees with a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. I look at it as an explosion of Christmas . . . even the lights are shaped like Mickey Mouse and Disney candy!"

Snowmobiling in Nearby Hope Valley

Lake Tahoe Adventures is open for the year and offering snowmobiling adventures in Hope Valley, straight down Highway 88 from the CVI! From the Sports & Race Book
  • Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
    • NFL favorites went 8-8 against the spread last week.  Five dogs won.
    • Have to hand it to the Patriots; they take all opponents seriously, even the Bengals!
    • How about those Broncos?  I don't really know what they're doing, but it seems to be working the last few weeks. They get 11 points against the Chiefs this week, so the odds makers don't seem to care what the Broncos have been up to.
    • The Bowl games don't get going until December 20th.  How can they possibly fit them all in?  I hope Santa doesn't get distracted.
  • Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot is $4,394 this week. Pick all 15 NFL winners on our weekly $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. Each week it is not “hit,” the jackpot climbs based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s, Bodines and SlotWorld.
  • Seasonal Wagers on board this week include NFL Football, the Army/Navy Game, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey and Horse Racing.
  • Futures Bets on the board include: 2020 NCAA Football Championship, 2020 Super Bowl, 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship and 2020 Stanley Cup.
  • Football Extras:
    • $2 Coors Light draft at the Casino Bar or in the Cabaret Lounge during all televised NFL and College Games.
    • A couple of Free NFL Hats given away for each of the teams playing every Monday Night Football Game.
    • Bar Snacks Delivered to Your Seat while you watch or play. Get the full menu and pricing at this link!
    • Three Yeti 45 Coolers will be given away on Monday, December 23 during the Packers/Vikings MNF Game. Ask the bartender for more information when ordering a Coors at our Casino Bar during any NFL game!
    • Poker Room Squares Pool: Earn squares as you play in live poker games during the week. Each week we kick in $160 and the payout is on the Monday Night Football Game – $40 to the winners of the first three quarters and the final score. Any unclaimed prizes each Monday roll to the next week. Last week one quarter was claimed so the total pool remains at $640 or $160 a quarter for the December 16 Colts/Saints game!

What would you do with this bonus? We have a great idea which we'll share next week if some lucky winner hasn't "hit" it yet!

Santa Crawl
The 10th Annual Gardnerville Santa Crawl is this Saturday from 7 to 10 PM and Sharkey's Casino is part of the seven-property festivities all to foster holiday fun for the benefit of Austin’s House and the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.
  • How to Register: Start by stopping by Battle Born Wine or DST Coffee any day before the Santa Crawl starts on Saturday evening. Purchase a wristband (one for each wrist if you're feeling generous) for $10.00 and all money collected will be split between Austin’s House and the Food Closet.
  • How to Participate: Wear your wristband on Saturday and start making the rounds to the participating locations which are the JT Basque Bar & Dining Room, Battle Born Wine, DST Coffee, Overland Restaurant & Pub, The French Bar, Sharkey's Casino and Nevada Ugly.  All are literally within "crawling" distance of each other so the "Santa Crawl" name is not a stretch!
  • What to Expect: Each location will have one or more drink specials available at a special price to all wearing the official wristband. At Sharkey's Casino, our Silver Dollar Bar will be featuring $1 Red or Green Jello Vodka Shots, $2 Firestone Union Jack IPA draft, $2 Jager Spice shots and $3 Spiced Jager Cider.
  • What to Wear: Dress warm to start. Wear anything Santa or Christmas related - use your imagination or go mainstream . . . it's all optional.

  • Above All: Please consume responsibly and have fun!

Football and Other Sports at the Inn
  • A Dorothy Parlay Hits:  The grinning customer walked up to the CVI Sports Book counter on Monday and handed his winning ticket to Mike as he said, "Lions And Tigers and Bears, Oh My!"  Mike’s been in the sports book business for 15 years and he knew right away what had happened: the lucky customer had just won a 3-team parlay on which he picked the Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears. The Dorothy Parlay is named for the song in the Wizard of Oz movie and, as with any 3-team parlay it paid 6 to 1!
  • Our Guys Picks: The penultimate (next to last) week for picks.  We’ll forgo last week’s unpleasantries and give the week 16 prognostications. Greg likes the two big dogs, Cardinals +14 against the Rams and the Bills +13 vs. the Patriots.  Steve is taking the Steelers +6 at the Saints and Hawaii as a pick’em against LA Tech in the Hawaii Bowl.  Mike will put his money on the Redskins +10 against the Titans and Army -4 ½ vs. the Houston Cougars.  Finally, Alan loves his Eagles -1 vs the Texans and Toledo -6 against Florida International in the Coconut Bowl.
  • The Progressive Pro PK'EM jackpot is now $4268 for whoever picks this week’s 15 NFL winners or props straight up on a $5 Card. Play as many as you wish and any ties will be split.

A Gift Idea, A Thank You, Holiday with a Hero, More in CVI Blog

Part of the CVI Family's Christmas Look
The Christmas trees, fireplace and other decorations in our hotel lobby make a great backdrop for a family holiday picture.  Since “a picture is worth 1000 words,” we’ve shown pictures of part of our family to demonstrate how it’s done. We hope to see you and your family here over the holidays and feel free to take as many pictures as you’d like in front of this setting or any of our Christmas decorations!

A Practical, Flexible & Versatile Gift Idea
Have local family or friends who might enjoy a nice dinner in CV Steak? Or how about out-of-town family or friends you’d like to have visit but just don’t have room for them in your home? Those are just two of the many situations that make CVI Gift Cards so useful and versatile!

Let’s go over the full list starting with the dining options: Katie's Country Kitchen, CV Steak and Job's Perk at the Carson Valley Inn; the restaurant at Bodines Casino; the Jackpot Cafe at Sharkey's Casino and Betsy's Big Kitchen in SlotWorld.  Gift cards are usable at all of the bars at all four of our properties and for accommodations in the Carson Valley Inn Hotel, Motor Lodge or RV Resort. Cards can also be used to purchase merchandise in Jobs Perk or gas/merchandise at the Carson Valley Market (redeem inside).  And when the summer season comes around, they can also be used towards tickets for concerts in TJ’s Corral.

Gift cards may be purchased at the Hotel Front Desk at the Carson Valley Inn or at the Guest Services counter at Bodines Casino, Sharkey's Casino and SlotWorld Casino. To buy them by phone, please call the CVI Hotel Desk at 775-783-6606 – we’ll even arrange to mail them if you wish.  Our Gift Cards do not expire, they may be used in increments and they are easily reloaded.  Sound good? Then solve your Christmas gift dilemma with a CVI gift card available in increments up to $500!

Share Your Christmas Food A Success!
What an incredible outpouring of support from the community last Friday at the 26th Annual KTVN Share Your Christmas Community Food Drive! Hundreds of cars and trucks brought most of the donations. Others came by helicopter, emergency vehicle, horseback and even by foot from those living close by. Thanks to the all generous donations of food and cash, many in our community will have meals when they otherwise might’ve gone hungry during the coming year!

Holiday With a Hero
Our sister properties SlotWorld Casino and Bodines Casinos are teaming up with the Holiday With A Hero organization this Saturday by donating all restaurant sales on December 15 to this very worthy cause.  Between 8 AM and 8 PM various members of the Sheriff's Office, Fire Department and Air National Guard will be on hand to "assist" our servers at both properties as they deliver your meals. Sponsored by the Carson City School District, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Carson City Fire Department, the Holiday With A Hero program ensures underprivileged children in Carson City have a proper Christmas. The money raised this Saturday will be dispersed to designated and pre-qualified students as Walmart gift cards . . . and each recipient is escorted throughout the store on December 19 with a local Hero from the Carson City School District, Sheriff’s Office or Fire Department. According to Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Gonzales, “SlotWorld made a huge impact last year and with the addition of Bodines this year Christmas 2018 will be even bigger”.  Sgt. Gonzales also indicated, “This event helps break down any barriers that come with our job. Sometimes these kids see us in a difficult situation in their homes or neighborhoods. Holiday With A Hero allows us to let our hair down and interact with the kids on a different more personal level."

Santa Crawl
The 10th Annual Gardnerville Santa Crawl is Saturday, December 22 from 7 to 10 PM and wristbands are available now for $10.00 at Battle Born Wine or DST Coffee. We suggest getting yours in advance so you can jump right in and enjoy the drink specials at the participating businesses during the “Crawl.” All donations will be split between Austin’s House & Carson Valley Community Food Closet. Watch for all the details in next week’s blog.
Gingerbread & Cookies
Another Gingerbread Cookie (?)
Gets Decorated!
  • Today is Gingerbread House Day.  Bet you thought we were going to tell you we have Gingerbread for sale at the Katie’s Bakery Counter and that   should come in and buy some? Nope - we don’t do gingerbread. You can blame the character in the green suit in the above Christmas picture taken in front of our lobby fireplace! However, we did find this young lady decorating a what looks like a gingerbread cookie at one of the recent Christmas parties here at the Carson Valley Inn. And since we can’t go without trying to “sell” something, now is the time to be thinking about booking your 2019 Christmas Party for your company, association or family. Just give Carrie a call at 775-783-6673.
  • Tuesday is Bake Cookies Day. Nothing fills the home with a more inviting aroma then hot, fresh cookies baking in the oven. On the other hand, it sounds like a lot of work to us. So if you’d like to skip the fuss and mess of baking cookies at home just stop by the Katie’s Bakery Counter (there, we worked it in!) We bake Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter and  Oatmeal Raisin cookies here daily as we do cakes, pies, pastries and many other desserts and sweets available in Job’s Perk, Katie’s and CV Steak! As for that aroma of fresh baked cookies? We deal with it daily – some days better than others and that’s why most of us would be well served by losing a few pounds!?
Football and Other Sports at the Inn
  • Rodeo Headquarters Through Saturday: Make the CVI your NFR Viewing Headquarters as the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo continues through Saturday. We’re showing the live rodeo telecasts starting at 7 PM in the Cabaret Lounge and you can enjoy $2 Coors, $2 Coors Light and $2 shots of Jack Daniels while the action continues until 10 PM.  Hungry? We’ll bring you any of our Bar Snacks right to your seat in the Cabaret Lounge or at the Casino Bar while you enjoy the rodeo action.
  • Our Guys Picks!  Humility reigns strong with Our Guys not wanting to get on a hot streak to end the season.  A 3 & 5 week ensures things must change with two weeks left of prognostication.   Mike looks to turn his luck around with the Arizona Cardinals +8 ½ at the Falcons and the over 54 in the Eagles – Rams game.  Steve is taking the Panthers +6½ versus the Saints and loves Middle Tennessee St. +7 against Appalachian St. in the New Orleans Bowl.  Alan is looks to remain the best picker among The Guys with Utah St. -8 vs. North Texas in the New Mexico Bowl and the Eagles +9 at the Rams.  Greg is going with the all Bay Area Play; 49ers +6 and the Raiders +3.
  • The Progressive Pro PK'EM jackpot climbed to $4,180 for whoever picks this week’s 15 winners or props straight up on a $5 Card. Play as many as you wish and any ties will be split.
  • Monday Night Football Poker Room Grid: $282 is available for this coming Monday’s Saints/Panthers game: That’s $70 and change for the first three quarters and the final score. You must be present to win and any unclaimed winnings roll to the following week. Check the details on this page.
  • The NCAA Bowl Games Start Saturday.  The New Mexico Bowl is first and a total of 39 bowl games will have taken place by the time the Sugar Bowl wraps up on Tuesday night, January 1, 2019. The Bowl Games Sheet in our sports book lists all the bowl games by date with information on the times, location, teams, television coverage and odds.
  • Enjoy $2 Domestic Draft Beer during all NFL games at the CVI.
  • On The Board This Week: NCAA Bowl Games, NFL Football, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey and Horseracing. Futures include winners of the NFL Conference Championships, the 2019 Super Bowl, the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the 2019 Stanley Cup and the 2019 NBA Championship.

John Dawson Band in Cabaret Lounge
Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge
Tyler Stafford tonight and Thursday, the John Dawson Band Friday and Saturday, NFL Football Sunday and Monday nights and Adam Bergoch next Tuesday and Wednesday.  Tyler Stafford’s songs often draw comparisons to songwriters such as John Mayer and Paul Simon delivered with a candor and immediacy reminiscent of John Lennon. The John Dawson Band is a Reno based group of five fun-lovin' guys who just like to entertain with a variety of modern country and classic rock. Adam Bergoch plays an acoustic guitar whilst mixing in effects from his abundance of digital pedals and singing along to some of the most popular songs, including Alternate Rock, Indie, Oldies, Dance, & even Rap.
