We’ve been working on an exciting lineup of artists for the 2019 concerts in TJ’s Corral and we're ready to announce the first four with more concerts to come! We’ll have more information on these four in next week’s blog and tickets will be on sale starting at noon on Wednesday, March 6. Perhaps by then one or two more will have fallen into place as we build for a full schedule announcement by April. Tickets will be available through our website or at the hotel desk . . . but not until noon next Wednesday:

Would You Take The Car or the Cash?

This week two lucky players will have the decision to make when we do the Grand Prize drawings in our February Cars or Cash Giveaway Promotion! Garden Gourmet Food Baskets

• Tonight: It’s our Ladies’ Night Couples Dress-Up Contest so watch for a variety of “pairs” starting at 5:30.  Could be two friends, sisters, a traditional couple, a mother and son, mother and daughter, or any other reasonable combination! We’ll start by giving everyone who “makes an attempt” a ticket for one set of drawings for Free Play Prizes. Sometime around 8 PM the judges will choose the best or cutest or most creative outfits for the contest prizes.
• Next Wednesday: We’ll be  giving all who attend a ”basic” green hat so you can start working on your design for our March 27 Ladies’ Night Best St. Patty’s Hat Contest. More about this next in week’s blog.
• For Ladies’ Night Every Wednesday: The shenanigans go from 5:30 to 8:30 PM with a free gift for the first 150 ladies (Jar Lid Openers this week) and special Gift Baskets as hot seat prizes (from Garden Gourmet Food this week.) New Promotions for March

• Point Multiplier Fridays: 5X Points on video reels and 3X Points on video poker, all day.
• Free Slot Tournament Monday: INN Club members get one free entry into the slot tournament that runs from noon to 7 PM Monday. Plus, you can earn up to three more tournament entries - one for each 50 points you accumulate on Monday.  There’s $1000 up for grabs each week in this all-month Monday promotion.
• Point Party Tuesday: this one goes on from 9 AM to 9 PM every Tuesday in March. • Saturday is Banana Cream Pie Day.  You guessed it – we make ‘em in-house and sell them at the Katie’s Bakery Counter, both full size and mini pies. You can also enjoy a slice when dining in Katie’s!  Need a pie or two for a special occasion? We suggest ordering ahead to make sure we have the one(s) you need as we sometimes sell ‘em all on any given day.
• Sunday is Canadian Bacon Day. We offer this breakfast favorite daily but if you want to save a couple of bucks and don’t mind celebrating a day early, Eggs Benedict is our featured special Saturdays in Katie’s for just $5.99 from 7 AM to 2 PM!

Carolyn Dolan can dive into powerful R & B, deliver a smooth jazz standard or a gentle country ballad.  Carolyn has made a music career leading folk and rock n roll bands, and for the last fifteen years, she has been performing with her rockin' blues and R & B band, Carolyn Dolan and Big Red. The John Dawson Band is a Reno based group of five fun-lovin' guys who just like to entertain with a variety of modern country and classic rock. The quintet includes Mitch (Lead Guitar), Brian (keys), J.B.  (Bass), Jhan (drums) and John Dawson (vocals and guitar). Former musical director for the late "LOUIS ARMSTRONG," John Palmore is an accomplished singer and keyboardist who has worked with Jackie Wilson, Mary Wells, ZZ Hill, Wilson Pickett, Joe Simon, Percy Sledge, The Platters and other "name" artists. Cliff and Dave is powerhouse gospel singer/drummer Cliff Porter and southern-fried singer/guitarist Dave Berry, often seen fronting the band Jelly Bread. Share Your Christmas Food A Success!

What an incredible outpouring of support from the community last Friday at the 26^th Annual KTVN Share Your Christmas Community Food Drive! Hundreds of cars and trucks brought most of the donations. Others came by helicopter, emergency vehicle, horseback and even by foot from those living close by. Thanks to the all generous donations of food and cash, many in our community will have meals when they otherwise might’ve gone hungry during the coming year!

Holiday With a Hero

Our sister properties SlotWorld Casino and Bodines Casinos are teaming up with the Holiday With A Hero organization this Saturday by donating all restaurant sales on December 15 to this very worthy cause.  Between 8 AM and 8 PM various members of the Sheriff's Office, Fire Department and Air National Guard will be on hand to "assist" our servers at both properties as they deliver your meals. Sponsored by the Carson City School District, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Carson City Fire Department, the Holiday With A Hero program ensures underprivileged children in Carson City have a proper Christmas. The money raised this Saturday will be dispersed to designated and pre-qualified students as Walmart gift cards . . . and each recipient is escorted throughout the store on December 19 with a local Hero from the Carson City School District, Sheriff’s Office or Fire Department. According to Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Gonzales, “SlotWorld made a huge impact last year and with the addition of Bodines this year Christmas 2018 will be even bigger”.  Sgt. Gonzales also indicated, “This event helps break down any barriers that come with our job. Sometimes these kids see us in a difficult situation in their homes or neighborhoods. Holiday With A Hero allows us to let our hair down and interact with the kids on a different more personal level."

The 10th Annual Gardnerville Santa Crawl is Saturday, December 22 from 7 to 10 PM and wristbands are available now for $10.00 at Battle Born Wine or DST Coffee. • Today is Gingerbread House Day.  Bet you thought we were going to tell you we have Gingerbread for sale at the Katie’s Bakery Counter and that   should come in and buy some? Nope - we don’t do gingerbread. You can blame the character in the green suit in the above Christmas picture taken in front of our lobby fireplace! However, we did find this young lady decorating a what looks like a gingerbread cookie at one of the recent Christmas parties here at the Carson Valley Inn. And since we can’t go without trying to “sell” something, now is the time to be thinking about booking your 2019 Christmas Party for your company, association or family. Just give Carrie a call at 775-783-6673.
• Tuesday is Bake Cookies Day. Nothing fills the home with a more inviting aroma then hot, fresh cookies baking in the oven. On the other hand, it sounds like a lot of work to us. So if you’d like to skip the fuss and mess of baking cookies at home just stop by the Katie’s Bakery Counter (there, we worked it in!) We bake Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter and  Oatmeal Raisin cookies here daily as we do cakes, pies, pastries and many other desserts and sweets available in Job’s Perk, Katie’s and CV Steak! As for that aroma of fresh baked cookies? We deal with it daily – some days better than others and that’s why most of us would be well served by losing a few pounds!?

As Tim Parsons says in his story about our upcoming Comedy Show in this article on Tahoe Onstage:  Brian Lee transitioned from a fighting man to a funny man. “I entered the Army four days before the first Gulf War,” he said. “It ended 100 hours later. That’s no coincidence.” After 24 years with both the Army and Navy, Lee now is an 18-year comedy veteran. His four-comic troupe is called Core 4 Comedy and it kicks off the Veterans Day weekend with an appearance on Saturday, Nov. 10 in our Valley Ballroom. Joining Brian are Host Jeff Anderson, Special Guest Luke Westberg and Feature Act Andy Picarro. With the start of the NBA regular season yesterday, we’re naming our “starting five” bar snacks you can have delivered to your seat whether you’re watching basketball, football, or any other sport in the cabaret lounge, seated at the cabaret bar or gaming! While these snacks don’t photograph as well as real NBA players, they all taste great! The upper left is the Breakfast Burrito which also includes a free Bloody Mary or Budweiser draft, all for $5.99. The Bagel Sandwich is in the upper center – a fried egg, your choice of sausage patty or bacon and cheddar cheese on a toasted bagel served with hash brown patties for $5.99. The upper right is the Pound of Buffalo Wings with celery and ranch dressing for $7.99. In the lower left is our Cheese Quesadilla with sausage and jalapenos for $5.99. And in the lower right, Two Beef Tacos with salsa for $4.99.  A good starting five is only as effective with solid bench players. So, not pictured are our Hamburger or Cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and American cheese on a sesame seed bun for $7.99 and our Chicken Strips and Fries basket for $5.99.

Thanksgiving “Dinner to Go” Returns

The CVI Thanksgiving Dinner to Go for Up to Ten is back again this year and we’re taking orders now! This approach is perfect for those who prefer to enjoy Thanksgiving in a home environment but don’t want the full load of preparing dinner from scratch.  Our Thanksgiving Dinner to Go for up to Ten includes a fully-cooked 18 - 20 pound turkey plus all the trimmings including mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green beans amandine, cranberry sauce, a pumpkin pie, rolls and butter all for just $89.00 plus tax. Orders may be placed anytime up to noon on Monday, November 19 (or until sold out) at the Katie's cashier counter or call 775-783-6664 and ask for the Katie's supervisor.  Pick up is next to the hotel front desk just inside the Valley Ballroom entrance at your requested time between 10 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The turkey will be hot and the rest is cooked and will simply need re-heating per the enclosed instructions. Last year we Sold Out Early so if this sounds good, please don’t wait too long!

• Our Guys Picks!  Another week with a 3–5 record so let’s see how these picks fair for the coming weekend: Mike is again going the college route but since he went 0-2 last week he’s trying a new approach and making his picks based on mascots he likes. To that end, he’s taking the Minnesota Golden Gophers +3½ versus the Nebraska Corn Huskers and the Oregon Ducks +2½ playing the Washington State Cougars. This Friday it’s Beer Braised Wild Boar Shanks slow cooked in beer, tomato, mustard and fresh herbs for $20. Saturday night’s special is Garlic Studded Prime Rib for $26 and Sunday's special is King Crab Legs for $28. Tany Jane Duo tonight and Thursday, John Dawson Band Friday and Saturday, NFL Football Sunday and Monday nights and Adam Donald next Tuesday and Wednesday. The Tany Jane Duo plays a wide variety of music from many different genres and time periods, everything from old country to today's hits. Tany Jane is guitarist and backup singer Eric Stangeland and Cabaret scene veteran Brittany Maggert. The John Dawson Band is a Reno based group of five fun-lovin' guys who just like to entertain with a variety of modern country and classic rock. The quintet includes Mitch (Lead Guitar), Brian (keys), J.B.  (Bass), Jhan (drums) and John Dawson (vocals and guitar). Adam Donald brings an upbeat and entertaining solo show with a heavy arsenal of songs mixing today’s hits with some old country favorites.

Creedence Revisited Put a Spell on TJ’s Corral

Another incredible concert and sold-out crowd this past Sunday as Creedence Clearwater Revisited put a spell on TJ’s Corral!  Those are not our words, but the headline from the review posted on Tahoe OnStage by Nick McCabe. "Second Chance" to Catch a TJ's Corral Concert

If you missed some of our TJ's Corral concerts this year because of personal scheduling, tickets were sold out, or any other reason, we're giving you a "second chance" at one more shot of nostalgia when 38 Special performs on Friday, September 21. Known best for their arena-rock pop hits of the eighties, 38 Special had a softer side which is brought out in the above video of Second Chance. In 1989 the song reached #1 on the Billboard US Adult Contemporary Chart and #2 on the Billboard US Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart. Heads Up – Literally!

An historic B-17G Flying Fortress from the Arizona Commemorative Air Force will be at the Minden Airport August 27 – September 3 with tours available each day and rides available on Friday through Sunday. Get all the information on times and prices at this link.

• Today is Rum Day. We have a selection of rums and you can order any rum drink you want. However, the most commonly ordered at CVI is a Mai Tai and any of our bartenders will be glad to help you celebrate Rum Day by making you one!
• Thursday is Vanilla Custard Day. We're stretching a little here but that’s totally allowable in a blog! We use Banana Custard to make the Banana Cream Pies which are for sale at the Katie’s Bakery Counter. . . and by the slice in Katie’s restaurant. So that’s how we suggest you celebrate Vanilla Custard Day!
• Friday is Pinot Noir Day. We offer a few of them in CV Steak including three by the glass. The most popular? The by-the-bottle single-vineyard Pinot Noir selections from Bella Glos: Clark & Telephone or Las Alturas.
• Saturday is Aviation Day which commemorates the birthday of Orville Wright. Just another reason for us to mention the Aviation Roundup coming to Minden-Tahoe Airport Saturday and Sunday, October 13 & 14!
• Sunday is Potato Day. Got us thinking about the different ways we serve potatoes here at the CVI. We came up with six on a day-to-day basis including French fries, baked potatoes, twice baked potato, au gratin potatoes, mashed potatoes and potato salad. Not in our current rotation in Katie’s, but in the cooler months we’ve been known to offer potato cheddar soup from time to time! Our favorite? Hands down the au gratin potatoes in CV Steak! They kinda blow your calorie allotment for a day, but what the heck!
• Tuesday is Senior Citizen’s Day. We’re deferring to our sister property Bodines Casino ‘cause they have a Senior Social from 8 to 11 AM every Tuesday . . . a chance to come together for complimentary coffee, cookies and senior visiting!
