No . . . this is not a hint that Willie Nelson is coming to TJ’s Corral . . . although that certainly would be exciting news! On the Road is the giant board game associated with the weekend drawings in our 3 Harleys and 7.5 Million Points promotion going on from 7 to 8:30 PM every Friday - and “again” on Saturday - through October 26. The fun ramps up as we pick ten winners in drawings every 15 minutes starting at 7:00 PM. Each of these folks receives two Golden Tickets for the grand finale Harley Giveaway on Wednesday, October 30. All ten also pick a custom cookie provided by The Chocolate Shoppe and if your cookie has the face of Deanna, Phil, Nick, Jessica or Paul you go on to the 8:30 PM On the Road board game. Michael & Darla Create Lightning!

Our Lightning Link Games continue to be enriching CVI players and a few days ago it was Michael (pictured above with his wife Darla) who cashed in. Darla is a fan of horses, and coincidentally (?) Michael was playing the Best Bet horse race-themed Lightning Link game along the wall to the right as you come in the front casino entrance. Don’t know if the horse theme tied into the lucky outcome, but a $10,812 Jackpot was Michael’s payout on a 50-penny max bet!

RIP TJ’s Alum Eddie Money

Our thoughts go out to the family of Eddie Money who passed away last week. Eddie appeared in TJ’s Corral on June 21, 2014 as part of a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. How is that possible - where are my chickens? Two totals stood out on Sunday: The Packers/Vikings and Chiefs/Raiders. The Pack was up 21-10 at half as were the Chiefs 28-10. Both of these games would surely make the over. Well "Shirley," among the 4 teams, there were only 6 points scored in the second halves!
What does it mean, when a team has "no chance"? Let’s put it this way: at what odds would you be willing to bet $20 the Dolphins will win the Super Bowl? 1,000:1? 10,000:1? How about $100?
The favorites went 7-9 against the spread in Week Two with 6 underdogs actually winning.

A few of us were pondering: Before the season started, who would have predicted that after two weeks, the Niners would be 2-0 after two east coast games as underdogs AND both the Jets and Steelers would be 0-2 and looking at a quarterback predicament!

Sip 'n' Sounds (Music) is the theme for Main Street Gardnerville’s Third Thursday Wine Walk this week with a variety of music scattered here and there at some of the dozens of the participating businesses in the one-mile stretch. Our sister property Sharkey’s Casino will fill your commemorative glass at a bargain and provide you with a chance to chow down before, during or after the “Walk” with snacks at the Silver Dollar Bar and full dining in the Jackpot Café. Friday is Rum Day. Yes, we have light rum and we have dark rum and we have various brands. However, it’s summer so just go up to the Cabaret Bar or the CV Steak Bar and order a Bermuda Rum Swizzle. Refreshing!
Monday is Pinot Noir Day. Nestled amongst the 60+ selections on the CV Steak wine list are five Pinot Noir offerings with three of them served by-the-glass. Monday Is Aviation Day. This time last year we were talking about the then-coming-up 2018 Aviation Roundup featuring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. Since the Aviation Roundup is an every-other-year event, this year we’re planning on catching a tour and perhaps a ride when the Sentimental Journey B17 is here at Minden Airport next month on September 3 – 8!

Boys & Girls Club Scores Over $200,000!

Thanks to the generous support of many Carson Valley residents and businesses, plus a significant donation from Carson Valley Inn owner Mike Pegram, over $200,000 was raised June 28 – 30 for the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. The majority of these funds will go toward the building of a new permanent facility for the youth here in the Carson Valley. Monies were raised during the Mike Tice Charity Weekend For the Kids in several ways including sponsorships, the Music/Food/Brewfest and the purchase of foursomes and fun contests associated with the golf tournament. More was raised through the live auction and special raffle at the awards dinner plus direct donations from locals and people across the country. In its nine years this event has raised over $1.2 million for the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. We’re almost there . . . THANKS to all who participated in any way!

He Pocketed $83,057 Yesterday!

John from San Diego was in town with his wife last weekend visiting family in the Carson Valley. For whatever reason they decided to stay a few extra days. Paid off quite handsomely when he lined up the symbols for the $83,057 Penny Progressive Jackpot at Sharkey's Casino Tuesday afternoon!

This Week in Our Restaurants

Katie’s Specials: Wednesday is Lasagna and Thursday is a Pork Chop in Ranchero Sauce. Fridays and Saturdays, Katie's offers a Roasted Prime Rib and Fried Shrimp Dinner special served with baked potato, vegetable and soup or salad. Katie’s Sunday special is "The Chandler" Chicken Dinner including southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cole slaw from 2 to 10PM. Monday Katie’s features Chicken Piccata and the Tuesday special is a Burrito Grande, chicken or beef & beans in a flour tortilla covered with enchilada sauce & cheese with Spanish rice. The specials on Monday through Saturday are served from 11AM to 10PM.
CV Steak: Wednesday’s special is Beef Tenderloin Brochette with bell peppers, onions, cherry tomato and a spicy sweet and sour sauce. Thursday is the CV Steak Mix Grill, a combination of our Filet Mignon, a Dijon and molasses Marinated Pork Tenderloin Medallion and Herb Marinated Lamb Chop Steak. This Friday’s special is a Grilled Veal “Porterhouse” Chop with a wild mushroom cream sauce. Saturday nights CV Steak features Garlic Studded Prime Rib and the Sunday special is “Oscar Style” Fillet of Salmon with crab and Béarnaise sauce. CV Steak specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato – au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked – tableside tossed salad and warm sourdough baguette.

Reckless Envy Thursday through Saturday: The versatility of Reckless Envy might just bring a heartfelt ballad such as Chris Stapleton’s version of “Tennessee Whiskey,” an authentic version of “Barracuda” by Heart, an entertaining rendition of Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” a guitar driven ZZ Top classic such as “Tush” or a dance song like Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.”
Rock River, Sunday and Monday: The duo of Buddy and Kim Emmer has made a name for themselves performing together professional in the Reno-Tahoe-Carson area. Their extremely versatile musical variety includes blues, country, Top 40, classic rock, 60’s through 90’s hits and even reggae . . . something for everyone.
Denver Saunders Duo, Tuesday & Wednesday: A stripped down performance of the band “The Well Dressed Mannequins,” Denver Saunders (vocals/guitar) and Jarom Horner (6-String Bass) are known for inspiring dancing, laughing and sing-alongs wherever they play.
