Speaking of Carson Valley Ranches

We were quite surprised when we started assembling a list of the various ranches in the Carson Valley. We thought we’d be lucky if we could get to ten. As we started thinking about it and talking to some of the old-time locals, the list just kept growing and growing. We finally said “that’s enough” when we got to 20. Our list follows; for how many do you know the location? The history? The family? Third Thursday Wine Walk This Week

Sip 'n' Sounds (Music) is the theme for Main Street Gardnerville’s Third Thursday Wine Walk this week with a variety of music scattered here and there at some of the dozens of the participating businesses in the one-mile stretch. Our sister property Sharkey’s Casino will fill your commemorative glass at a bargain and provide you with a chance to chow down before, during or after the “Walk” with snacks at the Silver Dollar Bar and full dining in the Jackpot Café. The Wine Walk fun runs from 4:30 to 7:30PM and you can register in advance online or “day of” at Gardnerville Station (1395 US Highway 395 N) or Big Daddy’s Bicycles (1546 US Highway 395 N).

Rum, Wine and Old Airplanes

• Friday is Rum Day. Yes, we have light rum and we have dark rum and we have various brands. However, it’s summer so just go up to the Cabaret Bar or the CV Steak Bar and order a Bermuda Rum Swizzle. Refreshing!
• Monday is Pinot Noir Day. Nestled amongst the 60+ selections on the CV Steak wine list are five Pinot Noir offerings with three of them served by-the-glass. You’ll certainly find something you like to accompany your next entrée! Need a suggestion? Jean-Michel recommends the Belle Glos Clark & Telephone Pinot!
• Monday Is Aviation Day. This time last year we were talking about the then-coming-up 2018 Aviation Roundup featuring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.  Since the Aviation Roundup is an every-other-year event, this year we’re planning on catching a tour and perhaps a ride when the Sentimental Journey B17 is here at Minden Airport next month on September 3 – 8!

This Week in Our Restaurants

• Katie’s Specials: Wednesday is Lasagna, Thursday is a Pork Chop in Ranchero Sauce and on Fridays and Saturdays, Katie's offers a Roasted Prime Rib and Fried Shrimp Dinner special served with baked potato, vegetable and soup or salad from 4 to 10PM. Katie’s Sunday special is "The Chandler" Chicken Dinner including southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cole slaw from 2 to 10PM. Monday Katie’s features Chicken Piccata and the Tuesday special is a Burrito Grande, chicken or beef & beans in a flour tortilla covered with enchilada sauce & cheese with Spanish rice. The specials on Monday through Thursday are served from 11AM to 10PM.
• CV Steak: Wednesday’s special is Beef Tenderloin Brochette with bell pepper, onions, cherry tomato and a spicy sweet and sour sauce. Thursday is the CV Steak Mix Grill, a combination of our Filet Mignon, a Dijon and molasses marinated Pork Tenderloin Medallion and herb marinated Lamb Chop Steak.  This Friday’s special is Roasted Stuffed Quail with prosciutto, wild rice pilaf and plum port glaze. On Saturday nights CV Steak features Garlic Studded Prime Rib. This Sunday’s special is “Oscar Style” Fillet of Salmon with crab and Béarnaise sauce. CV Steak specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato – au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked – table-side tossed salad and warm sourdough baguette.

• Kenny Frye Band, Thursday through Saturday: The Kenny Frye Band has quickly established themselves as one of today’s top New Country, Traditional Country, Rock & Roll and a few other Genre Music Bands in the Northern California Area. The group performs the hottest new country music hits of today, along with some memorable classics of yesterday, as well as some Prince, Bob Seger, Nickleback, Eagles, just to mention a few!
• Adam Donald, Sunday thru Tuesday: Adam brings an upbeat and entertaining solo show with a heavy arsenal of songs mixing today’s hits with some old country favorites.
