Mother's Day Weekend Package, Valentine's Dining, A Burning Bunny Question, More

Welcome, Bently Heritage
Activity around the Bently Heritage Estate Distillery has been heavy this week as they get closer and closer to opening to the public this weekend. We join the entire Carson Valley in welcoming this world-class business to our community and we’re especially pleased to have them located just steps from our front door on “our side of the street!” To learn more about this incredible transformation, check this article recently published by Edible Reno-Tahoe Magazine and for information on tours of Bently Heritage click here.

Mother’s Day Weekend Package
It’s not too soon to start thinking about plans for Mother’s Day . . . And here’s one idea you might start considering: our Mother’s Day Weekend Hotel Package is a great way to treat your Mom, Grandma, Wife or Mother-in-Law to a getaway at the Carson Valley Inn! Enjoy two nights’ accommodations, dining credit and a special chocolate gift on arrival! Click here for all the details.

We know this question is on your mind and we think we may be able to give you an answer. It all has to do with “Sister” who was last at the CVI to talk about Late Night Catechism. We’ve heard rumors she’ll be back in April around Easter and we’ll have more about that in next week’s blog!

Game Wasn't Boring for Karen & Mark!!
About Last Sunday’s Game
  • Boring is in the Eye of the Beholder: Our guess is that Karen and Mark, weekend guests in for our Super Bowl Party in the Valley Ballroom, really didn’t have a feel one way or another about the game being boring. While they were here, they won slot jackpots of $1,200 and $10,408!
  • $5,000 Progressive Pro PK’EM: Three people are going to each be $1,667 happier when they bring in their Pro PK’EM tickets from the Super Bowl game - that’s how many picked 13 out of the 15 prop bets correctly. No one picked more than 13 correctly and quite a few picked 12 correctly. All three of the tickets with 13 correct pics were sold at the Carson Valley Inn so bring ‘em in to the CVI Sports Book with your ID and we’ll verify the ticket and then walk you to Guest Services to collect your cash winnings!
  • Prop Bets:  The first of our many prop bets was decided at the coin toss when Tails came up for, get this, the fifth time in the last six years! And the last prop was determined when Julian Edelman was named MVP making a few of our customers quite happy as he paid 25 to 1. And one man almost made his wife ecstatic with one of the prop bets. She had insisted he place a bet on “no team scoring a touchdown” during the game. Being a good husband, he put down the $10 and into the fourth quarter it looked like he might just have a most unlikely winner. Those 100 to 1 odds would’ve made for a happy wife, happy life!

Never a Dull Moment at the CVI!
  • Valentine’s Day Dining: At the CVI, CV Steak and Katie’s will be offering their regular menus plus these Valentine’s Day Specials. The Jackpot Café in Sharkey’s is also offering its regular menu plus two Valentine’s Day specials from 4 to 10 PM.
  • Employment Opportunities: We are hiring at the Carson Valley Inn and Sharkey’s Casino here in Carson Valley and at Bodines Casino and SlotWorld Casino in Carson City.  In our business, the "dull moments" are few and the "I thought I'd seen everything" moments keep the job lively! Get all the openings at all four locations by clicking here!
  • 2018 Win/Loss Statements:  Have you started your taxes and need a Win/Loss statement from one or more of our casinos? Download this form to make your request.  We can provide you with a report for the play recorded while you used your Player’s Club card.
  • Gift Cards: We're not suggesting a Carson Valley Inn Card be your first priority for a Valentine’s Day gift, but it just might make a nice inclusion into a Valentine’s Day Card! You can buy them in any denomination up to $500 and they are for sale at our hotel desk. Click here for all the information on how they can be used.
Some Special Days
  • Friday is Laugh & Get Rich Day.  We don’t know how rich you’ll get, but it might be a good day to try your luck at one of our $tinkin’ Rich video slots!
  • Saturday is Pizza Day. Celebrate it as you may, but we’re heading to Bodines Casino for one of their made-to-order pizzas fresh-baked in Bodines’ special brick pizza oven!
  • Monday is Plimsoll Day dedicated to the man who made commercial sailing safer. You can harken back to the old days of sailing by playing one of our Shake Your Booty, Jolly Roger or Treasure Voyage video slots! Or, you can support shipping by going shopping! We don’t make this stuff up, it's actually one of the suggested ways to celebrate Plimsoll Day as covered at this link!
  • Monday is also Get Out Your Guitar Day. Good reason to remind you that, now that the NFL season is over, we are back to live entertainment seven nights a week in the Cabaret lounge where the most commonly seen instrument is definitely the guitar!
  • Tuesday is Lost Penny Day. You can “find your penny” by jumping onto one of our two giant Bubble Gum videos and putting the penny in the “good luck” slot during the bonus round. Or you can really make a splash by winning the jackpot on our 4-property Penny Progressive!

We Had No Idea If It Was a Good Idea
But We Tried it Anyway . . .
What If We Did a Joke Contest?
When our social media folks told us they were going to run a joke contest to help promote this Saturday’s comedy show, we cringed! Anyone who pokes around at all on social media knows you’re likely to see or read just about anything!  One of the criteria was “keep it clean” and, by gosh, everyone did! A variety of jokes were posted on both Facebook and Instagram and the winner – Andy Guerrero – was chosen by random drawing. To read his and some of the other jokes, take a look at the comments on this Facebook posting . . . A few of them are “not bad!” Keep reading our blog (new every Wednesday morning) to stay up-to-date on the pertinent happenings at and near the Carson Valley Inn! If social media is also to your liking, here are the links to our Facebook page, Twitter account, and Instagram account.

“Tie One On” Day Isn’t for Two Weeks
But We’re Getting You Started Tonight!
We know what you’re thinking when we in the casino business say Tie One On Day . . . it’s gotta be about excess drinking.  Turns out it has nothing to do with drinking and unless you happened to have stumbled on this earlier in your life or taken a clue from the picture above, we’re thinking you didn’t see this one coming: Tie One On Day is about aprons!! So here we go with an explanation: at tonight’s Ladies’ Night, Julie and Kim – pictured  above – will be giving out white aprons with the Carson Valley Inn logo. Everyone receiving one of these aprons is invited to decorate it in whatever creative fashion you can imagine . . . And then wear it when you come in for Ladies’ Night on Wednesday, November 28.  Everyone who wears their decorated CVI apron on November 28 will be eligible for prize drawings . . . and we’ll also be giving out prizes for the best decorated aprons. The key is to get started by attending Ladies’ Night tonight and picking up your free CVI apron. And as for Tie One On Day, it’s actually Wednesday, November 21, the day before Thanksgiving. We invite you to click on any of the three links earlier in this article (each is different) to find out more! And whatever you do, don’t giveaway your CVI apron on November 21!

32 Years Ago This Week Here at the CVI
With no advance fanfare or publicity, Retired General Chuck Yeager spoke to the California Flying Farmers annual gathering at the Carson Valley Inn 32 years ago this Thursday!  The attendance for the event was already pushing the limits of the CVI ballroom and the organizers of the meeting insisted on absolutely no advance mention of Yeager's upcoming appearance. At the last minute, a few members of the press were invited in for what turned out to be an incredibly fascinating presentation on the technology of flight followed by the general signing copies of his just-published book, Yeager: An Autobiography. Chuck Yeager was the first man to break the sound barrier on October 14, 1947. 71 years later to the day, on October 14, 2018, spectators at the Aviation Roundup saw Blue Angel #5 fly right to the edge of the sound barrier as he made his 700+ mph Sneak Pass maneuver right down the crowd line just feet above the ground at the Minden-Tahoe Airport.

Football and Other Sports at the Inn
Blue vs. Red - Without the Robocalls!
  • Our Guys Picks!  The Guys are trending in the right direction with a 5 & 3 weekend.  Albeit, it’s not a reason for anyone to quit their day job but at least they can afford the Hamsteak & Eggs special in Katie’s!   This week Greg is going with Wisconsin +8 at Penn St. and the Patriots -6 ½ at the Titans.  Alan will fly with his Eagles -7 versus the Cowboys and Da’Bears -7 against the Lions.  Mike loves Boise St. +3 on the smurf turf against Fresno St. and the over 56 of TCU/West Virginia.  Steve is all over the Panthers +4 at the Steelers on Thursday night and the Bengals +4½ versus the Saints.  With 9 weeks down, here’s a look at the Y-T-D Records:  Alan is 8 & 10, Greg is 9 & 9, Mike is 7 & 11 and Steve is 8 & 10.
  • Free Merch Monday Night: Anytime the Niners or Raiders play in prime time we’ll be there with some giveaways . . . so join us in the Cabaret Lounge Monday night for some drawings for Forty Niner and Giants hats and shirts during the game!
  • The Progressive Pro PK'EM jackpot is now at $3,622 for whoever picks this week’s 15 winners or props straight up. Cards are $5 card, play as many as you wish, any ties are split.
  • Monday Night Football Poker Room Grid:  All squares were claimed this past Monday so it’s back to $160 total for this coming Monday’s Giants/Niners game. “The Grid” pays $40 the first three quarters and $40 for the final score . . . you must be present to win and any unclaimed winnings roll to the following week. Check the details on this page.
  • Enjoy $2 Domestic Draft Beer during all NFL games at the CVI.
  • On The Board! This week you can bet NCAA and NFL Football, NHL Hockey, NBA and NCAA Basketball, the Sunday Canadian Football League Division Finals, the Sunday NASCAR Can-Am 500 and Horseracing. Futures include winners of the NASCAR Monster Energy Series, the NFL Conference Championships, the 2019 Super Bowl, the 2019 NCAA Football Championship, the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the 2019 Stanley Cup and the 2019 NBA Championship.
Cappuccino, Pizza and Chicken Soup
  • Thursday is Cappuccino Day and the weather is finally getting cool enough to enjoy one of these frothy and whipped coffee drinks in Job’s Perk!
  • Monday is Pizza With The Works Except Anchovies Day. This special observance came into existence to protect people who foolishly and naively choose to order their pizza with "the works," never thinking for a moment that there’s a madman out there perfectly willing and capable of putting anchovies on a poor innocent pizza. If you read our blog regularly, you know where we’re heading: toward the pizzas churned out daily in the specially made brick pizza oven at our sister property, Bodines Casino. We asked Bodines manager Tom Forrest how they prevented people from accidentally getting anchovies when ordering a pizza with “the works.” He laughed and simply stated, “can’t happen here, we don’t even have anchovies on the property!”
  • Monday is Chicken Soup for the Soul Day. Ideally we’d be doing a segue into a chicken soup special in Katie’s  . . .  But sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way so try this one:  on Monday we’ll be serving Chicken Tortilla Soup for the Body in Katie's!
 This Week in the Casino
  • Ladies’ Night Tonight:  Join us from 5:30 to 8:30 PM with a Free CVI Apron for the first 150 ladies and Pampered Chef Baskets as hot seat prizes. Also tonight: games, raffles, a weekly drink special and free bingo for ladies playing in the pit or at slots.
  • $75,000 Holiday Giveaways Promotion Friday and Saturday:  Join us at 5, 7 and 9 PM both nights for drawings for cash and FreePlay!
  • Point Multipliers Saturday: 4X Points on Reel Slots and Video Poker Slots all day every Saturday in November. Use your rapidly accumulating points for FreePlay, dining, Katie’s Bakery products, hotel stays and more!
  • Your Rewards Monday: INN Club members can swipe at the casino kiosk once on Monday for Your Reward. Could be FreePlay, a Free Food offer, a Free Multiplier or a Free Gift!
In Our Restaurants
  • Wednesday is Italian Day in Katie’s – three specials for $6.99 each served from 11 AM to 10 PM! The Friday and Saturday night special in Katie’s is Roasted Prime Rib & Fried Shrimp for $14.99 served from 4 PM.
  • Thursday’s special in CV Steak is the CV Steak Mix Grill, a combination of our Filet Mignon, a Dijon and molasses Marinated Pork Tenderloin Medallion and Herb Marinated Lamb Chop for $26. This Friday it’s Veal Scaloppini with lemon and capers for $29. Saturday night’s special is Garlic Studded Prime Rib for $26 and Sunday's special is King Crab Legs for $28. These specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato – au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked – tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread.
Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge
Patrick Major tonight, Reckless Envy Thursday - Saturday, NFL Football Sunday and Monday nights and Hans Eberbach next Tuesday and Wednesday. Patrick Major’s style includes his own mix of original guitar and vocals combined with rock classics from the last four decades. Whether playing tunes from James Taylor to Dave Matthews, or his own compositions, he displays an unequaled emotion with all. The versatility of Reckless Envy might just bring a heartfelt ballad such as Chris Stapleton’s version of “Tennessee Whiskey,” an authentic version of “Barracuda” by Heart, an entertaining rendition of Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” a guitar driven ZZ Top classic such as “Tush” or a dance song like Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” Vocalist and songwriter Hans Eberbach sings for the band Joy & Madness, an evolution of vintage soul sound with modern classic pop sensibilities. He also fronts his own band HANS! and the HOT MESS a band that represents his original singer/songwriter/electronic soul work.

Concert Finale Friday, Jackpots for the Taking, Wine & Music Thursday, More

Picture by Conrad Buedel from 38 Special's 2015 Concert in TJ's Corral
Great Night in Store for 38 Special Concert
Looks like we couldn’t ask for better weather as we mark the last day of summer with our 38 Special Concert this Friday in TJ’s Corral.  Might want to bring a sweater or light jacket as it could be a little chilly by the time the concert winds down and, we do have a no-reentry policy. Otherwise, we’re looking for spectacular skies and a great finale to our 2018 Concert Series. It’s not too late to get tickets either on our website or in person at the Hotel Front Desk.  Get yourself in the mood for the concert, check out this great article posted by Tahoe Onstage which also includes some throwback to the 38 Special’s last appearance in TJ’s Corral in 2015 (see the picture above). Want a refresher on the top hits by 38 Special? Check out these 10 Essential 38 Special Songs as compiled by Classic Rock History.

Live Comedy Details Set
Last week we announced that Core 4 Comedy is coming to our Valley Ballroom on Saturday, November 10 with Host Jeff Anderson, Special Guest Luke Westberg, Feature Act Andy Picarro and Headliner Brian Lee. Tickets are on sale for just $20 and we hope you’ll act soon as the Valley Ballroom has considerably less capacity than TJ’s Corral! We’ll be gaining a personal insight into what the night will bring when Brian Lee visits with us next Wednesday to “check out” the layout of our Valley ballroom. So watch for more information  in our blog the first week in October but meanwhile get your tickets now either online or at our hotel desk for this fun Veterans Day weekend comedy show!

Four "Ripe" Jackpots at the CVI
Hit the Jackpot at the CVI
When the Penny Progressives Jackpot topped $40,000 earlier this week we went snooping in the casino to see what else was getting ripe. We found the Locomotive Grand Jackpot at over $13,000, the giant Buffalo Stampede jackpot in excess of $26,000 and the Fort Knox Progressive had topped $15,000. These are just some of the jackpots that are “getting’ up there” . . . there are plenty of others! Will you be our next 5-figure winner?

Wine, Music and Sharkey’s
The season’s final Third Thursday Wine Walk is this week and it looks like temperatures will be in the low 80s for start time at 4 PM.  Sip ‘n’ Sounds is the theme and various musical groups and soloists will be performing at a few outdoor locations along Highway 395 including the Stratton Center, Mid-Town Center West and Mid-Town Plaza East. Naturally, Sharkey’s casino will be glad to fill your official wine walk glass when you stop by the Silver Dollar Bar. Might want to plan on grabbing dinner at Sharkey’s and then crossing the street to Heritage Park where the  “False Rhythms” Reggae band will be performing and free dessert will be served as Main Street Gardnerville celebrates their 10th Anniversary starting at 7:30 PM. Need a seat to watch the band? Sharkey’s will be distributing a limited number of fold-out chairs while the supply lasts to official Wine Walk participants . . . so get to Sharkey’s early!

This Picture is Not Upside-down
There are a variety of acts joining U.S. Navy Blue Angels at the Aviation Roundup at Minden-Tahoe Airport in October and none is more “interesting” than the performance by Aaron Fitzgerald in the Red Bull BO-105 fully aerobatic helicopter. Quite an unusual sight to see a helicopter flying upside down . . . Most pilots will tell you it isn’t even possible. All this and more will fill the skies of Carson Valley on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14 and now is the time to buy tickets either online at this link or at the Raley’s Gardnerville store!

Football at the Inn!
  • Beer & Snacks: Enjoy $2 Domestic Draft Beer during all NFL games at the CVI. Our staff will bring your bar bites order to you right at your seat.
  • Football gets even bigger at the CVI next week . . . be sure to check next week's blog and you'll get the picture.
  • The Progressive Pro PK'EM climbed to $2,766 for this week. Pick all 15 games straight up and the Jackpot is yours! If no one hits the mark, the amount will increase again for next week.
  • Monday Night Football  Poker Room Grid: Two winning squares didn't get claimed this past Monday so the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters and final score are $65 each for the September 24th game.  You have to be present to win and any unclaimed winnings roll to the following week.  Check out all the Poker Room promos and special games on this page.
  • Our Guys Bombed!  It was a rough week for the Guys giving us two winners out of eight games.  They look to rebound this week with Alan taking the Cowboys +1 at the Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Bucs +1 at the Steelers.   Greg loves Da’Bears -6 at the winless Cardinals and the LA Rams -7 vs. the Chargers in the battle of Los Angeles.  Steve is betting on the Browns -3 ½ against the Jets and the struggling  Bills +16 ½ at the Vikings.  Mike is once again going to dabble in the college ranks taking SMU +6½ at Navy and the over 43 ½ of the Iowa–Wisconsin game.
  • What’s On The Board: This week you can bet NCAA and NFL Football, Major League Baseball, Canadian Football League, the Saturday night NASCAR Federated Auto Parts 400 and Horseracing. Futures include winners of the World Series, NASCAR Monster Energy Series, the NFL Conference Championships, the 2019 Super Bowl, the 2019 NCAA Football Championship and the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Just for Fun

Jeff Campbell  is a vocalist,  impassioned  songwriter  and  lifelong  musician . . .  an  emotional,  evocative  poet  with  a  rock  lover’s  heart! Arizona Jones puts their rockin' spin on classic R&B hits from the 60's and 70's . . . and you never know who'll be singing louder, the audience or the band. They play the hits from Aerosmith and Amy Winehouse to Wilson Pickett and ZZ Top . . . and many artists in between.
Vocalist and songwriter Hans Eberbach sings for the band Joy & Madness, an evolution of vintage soul sound with modern classic pop sensibilities. He also fronts his own band HANS! and the HOT MESS.

Your Name Just Got Called to Win
Our New Toyota Corolla - WWYD?
Yeah we know, you don't think you have a chance to win the Toyota Corolla this Saturday at the CVI. But somebody will win it and it very well could be someone reading this article right now. Whoever wins will be “on the clock” to make a decision. So, What Would You Do? Some folks wouldn't think twice, they'd choose the cash-out option of $15,000. Others would take the car and simply say "I'll stop down at Carson City Toyota on Monday and pick out my color.  The consensus among us writers is we would also go down to Carson City Toyota on Monday and start negotiating for how much extra we'd have to pay to upgrade to a tricked out 4Runner TRD Pro! So if you win and can't make up your mind, we'll be lingering around ready to take the prize and the choice off your hands (fat chance, huh!)

Do We Owe You $1,250 from the Super Bowl?
If you are among the many who played one or more $5 Progressive Pro PK'EM cards on last Sunday’s game, you might just have $1,250 coming as a result of a 4-way tie. Of all the cards played, 12 out of 15 picks was the highest success ratio. Of the four who hit this mark; two of you played your ticket at Sharkey’s Casino, one at Bodines Casino and one at CVI.  If 12/15 is what you feel you got on your picks, bring your ticket to the Sports Book at the Carson Valley Inn and collect your cash on the spot as soon as we verify your ticket!

Pizza, Brownies and Pennies
Move Over Lemon Squares,
Make Room for Big Daddy Brownies!
  • Friday is National Pizza Day. Sure there are days we wish we had pizza here at the CVI . . . But we’d really have to struggle to top the quality, value and taste of the pizzas coming out of the special brick pizza oven at Bodines Casino!  So, in this case we defer to our sister property and invite you to stop by Bodines. If you’ve never had a pizza there, you’re truly missing out 'cause every Bodines pizza is hand-tossed, custom assembled and cooked to order on a 600+ degree surface! Trying to cut back on pizza? Why fight it – Americans consume on average 23 pounds of pizza per person each year and you really need to do your part – at Bodines, of course!
  • Sunday is Have a Brownie Day which is not to be confused with the more popularly-celebrated Brownie Day in December. However, we try to never miss an opportunity to draw attention to the many baked goods we make daily in our bakery and offer for sale at Katie’s Bakery Counter. And what’s at the top of the list of cookies, pies, cakes and other goodies? Brownies of course!!
  • Monday is Lost Penny Day which gives us cause for a little tongue-in-cheek mourning for the old days when we could throw pennies into a jar and bring them in once in a while to try our luck on slots that actually accepted pennies.  Fast forward to today and here’s a little known twist: many of today’s video slots (a few hundred here at CVI), while not billed as penny machines, actually allow you to bet one cent. The downside? The bells and whistles aren't very loud or exciting when you win, you'll get bored quickly and ya just can’t win a whole bunch going that route! On the other hand, play the max coins on a penny machine and you could hit big . . . as Michael and Linda did when they “hit” our Penny Progressive Jackpot at $99,000 a couple of weeks ago . . . Who’s Next?
