Mother's Day Weekend Package, Valentine's Dining, A Burning Bunny Question, More

Welcome, Bently Heritage
Activity around the Bently Heritage Estate Distillery has been heavy this week as they get closer and closer to opening to the public this weekend. We join the entire Carson Valley in welcoming this world-class business to our community and we’re especially pleased to have them located just steps from our front door on “our side of the street!” To learn more about this incredible transformation, check this article recently published by Edible Reno-Tahoe Magazine and for information on tours of Bently Heritage click here.

Mother’s Day Weekend Package
It’s not too soon to start thinking about plans for Mother’s Day . . . And here’s one idea you might start considering: our Mother’s Day Weekend Hotel Package is a great way to treat your Mom, Grandma, Wife or Mother-in-Law to a getaway at the Carson Valley Inn! Enjoy two nights’ accommodations, dining credit and a special chocolate gift on arrival! Click here for all the details.

We know this question is on your mind and we think we may be able to give you an answer. It all has to do with “Sister” who was last at the CVI to talk about Late Night Catechism. We’ve heard rumors she’ll be back in April around Easter and we’ll have more about that in next week’s blog!

Game Wasn't Boring for Karen & Mark!!
About Last Sunday’s Game
  • Boring is in the Eye of the Beholder: Our guess is that Karen and Mark, weekend guests in for our Super Bowl Party in the Valley Ballroom, really didn’t have a feel one way or another about the game being boring. While they were here, they won slot jackpots of $1,200 and $10,408!
  • $5,000 Progressive Pro PK’EM: Three people are going to each be $1,667 happier when they bring in their Pro PK’EM tickets from the Super Bowl game - that’s how many picked 13 out of the 15 prop bets correctly. No one picked more than 13 correctly and quite a few picked 12 correctly. All three of the tickets with 13 correct pics were sold at the Carson Valley Inn so bring ‘em in to the CVI Sports Book with your ID and we’ll verify the ticket and then walk you to Guest Services to collect your cash winnings!
  • Prop Bets:  The first of our many prop bets was decided at the coin toss when Tails came up for, get this, the fifth time in the last six years! And the last prop was determined when Julian Edelman was named MVP making a few of our customers quite happy as he paid 25 to 1. And one man almost made his wife ecstatic with one of the prop bets. She had insisted he place a bet on “no team scoring a touchdown” during the game. Being a good husband, he put down the $10 and into the fourth quarter it looked like he might just have a most unlikely winner. Those 100 to 1 odds would’ve made for a happy wife, happy life!

Never a Dull Moment at the CVI!
  • Valentine’s Day Dining: At the CVI, CV Steak and Katie’s will be offering their regular menus plus these Valentine’s Day Specials. The Jackpot Café in Sharkey’s is also offering its regular menu plus two Valentine’s Day specials from 4 to 10 PM.
  • Employment Opportunities: We are hiring at the Carson Valley Inn and Sharkey’s Casino here in Carson Valley and at Bodines Casino and SlotWorld Casino in Carson City.  In our business, the "dull moments" are few and the "I thought I'd seen everything" moments keep the job lively! Get all the openings at all four locations by clicking here!
  • 2018 Win/Loss Statements:  Have you started your taxes and need a Win/Loss statement from one or more of our casinos? Download this form to make your request.  We can provide you with a report for the play recorded while you used your Player’s Club card.
  • Gift Cards: We're not suggesting a Carson Valley Inn Card be your first priority for a Valentine’s Day gift, but it just might make a nice inclusion into a Valentine’s Day Card! You can buy them in any denomination up to $500 and they are for sale at our hotel desk. Click here for all the information on how they can be used.
Some Special Days
  • Friday is Laugh & Get Rich Day.  We don’t know how rich you’ll get, but it might be a good day to try your luck at one of our $tinkin’ Rich video slots!
  • Saturday is Pizza Day. Celebrate it as you may, but we’re heading to Bodines Casino for one of their made-to-order pizzas fresh-baked in Bodines’ special brick pizza oven!
  • Monday is Plimsoll Day dedicated to the man who made commercial sailing safer. You can harken back to the old days of sailing by playing one of our Shake Your Booty, Jolly Roger or Treasure Voyage video slots! Or, you can support shipping by going shopping! We don’t make this stuff up, it's actually one of the suggested ways to celebrate Plimsoll Day as covered at this link!
  • Monday is also Get Out Your Guitar Day. Good reason to remind you that, now that the NFL season is over, we are back to live entertainment seven nights a week in the Cabaret lounge where the most commonly seen instrument is definitely the guitar!
  • Tuesday is Lost Penny Day. You can “find your penny” by jumping onto one of our two giant Bubble Gum videos and putting the penny in the “good luck” slot during the bonus round. Or you can really make a splash by winning the jackpot on our 4-property Penny Progressive!

Comedy Closer, Free Niners & Raiders Merch, Poker Room New Look, More

Guys, Don’t Let the Gals Beat You Out!
Seems there are a couple of groups of ladies who are turning our November 10 Comedy Show into a “Girl’s Night Out.”  We find out these things because to purchase tickets for a group of eight or more you have to actually call to have your online purchase cleared . . . It’s a carryover from concert ticket purchasing protocol. Anyway, if the gals can do a “Girls Night Out,” then why not a “Guys Night Out” or “Date Night,” too!?  Since the girls already have it figured out, here’s a suggestion for the guys: gather in the cabaret lounge next Saturday afternoon and catch the Florida State/Notre Dame game while munching on our Bar Bites, come on down to the comedy show, and then head back to the cabaret bar to catch the end of the Colorado State/Nevada game!  As for “Date Night,” this one is easy: make your reservations now for dinner in CV Steak and top it off with laughs in the Valley Ballroom. It’s all happening Saturday, November 10 in the Valley Ballroom at 7:30 PM.  Doors open about 45 minutes before show time, seating is “open,” and tickets are just $20 and are available online or at our hotel desk.

Ladies’ Night Brief Hiatus, But . . .
Our popular Ladies' Night activities take a night off tonight so the many ladies who attend regularly can spend the night enjoying Halloween with their kids or grandkids. Our suggestion is to take them to the Trick-Or-Treat Halloween Safety Street at the CVIC Hall in Minden today from 3 to 8 PM. The Carson Valley Inn has been a proud sponsor of this event since its inception and you can get more details in the flyer on this page.  This doesn't mean you shouldn't stop by the Carson Valley Inn sometime today 'cause you'll be earning five times points on all slot play all day today! Be sure to use your INN Club card while playing and quintuple your point benefits!! And while you are here, watch for spooks, goblins and who-knows-what-else as some of our employees will be dressed up for our costume contest judges. Finally, be sure to mark your calendar for next Wednesday when Ladies’ Night resumes with a special apron gift for all ladies  . . . and watch for more information about our November Ladies' Night Apron promotion in our blog next week.

Poker Room – New Look, New Promos
Thanks for your patience during the recent remodeling of our poker room! Recovered chairs, a more soothing table felt color, larger new HDTV screens, plus new carpeting, wallpaper and paint have all combined for a refreshing new atmosphere! And with November arriving tomorrow, we’re bringing back the Poker Ladder which will continue through November and December to determine our Top 30 who will qualify for a $1000 Free Roll Tournament! Also new over the next two months is a Tournament Entry Drawings Promotion. We’ll give you a drawing ticket for every tournament you enter all month and the month-end drawings for both November and December will bring a total of $500 a month in cash plus some CV Steak certificates!  Our Poker Room opens at 4 PM Mondays, Sundays at 8:30 AM and at noon on Tuesdays – Saturdays.

Breeders’ Cup This Weekend!
Bob Baffert, Hall of Fame trainer and long-time friend of CVI owner Mike Pegram, looks like he’ll have two horses (possibly three) running in this Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic. We’re pulling for Bob to bring home a winner but we’d really like it to be with McKinzie – owned by Mike and his partners Karl Watson and Paul Weitman.  Post time is 2:44 p.m. PDT and of course we’ll be showing the race in our Cabaret Lounge and Bar areas with our eye on the #6 horse flying the yellow and red MP colors! As always with horse racing, final entries are subject to change up to post time!

All Veteran's and Active Military: Join Us with One Guest
for Our traditional Veteran's Day Spaghetti Feed
Football and Other Sports at the Inn
Free Raiders & Niners Merch
this Thursday
  • Our Guys Picks! Similar story, different week with Our Guys going 3 & 5 last week against the spread.  Mike, who spends the most time in the Sportsbook, broke his six-game winless streak with a win last week.   This week he looks to turn things around with Iowa +3 against Purdue and the surprising Kentucky Wildcats +9½ versus Georgia.   Steve is going all Bayou this weekend with LSU +14 vs. Bama and the Saints-1 ½ against the offensive powerhouse LA Rams.   Greg loves the Notre Dame Golden Domers -9½ at Northwestern and the under 47 ½ in the Ravens – Steelers game.  Alan is rolling with the Jets +3 at Miami and the Chargers +1½ at the Seahawks.
  • It’s the final Battle of the Bay as the Raiders (1-6) and the 49ers (1-7) match up in what ABC News also is calling the Bay Area Bummer in this week’s Thursday Night Football Game. If it’s the Raiders or Niners on a prime time game, we’ll have merchandise to give away during the game – be sure to get your raffle ticket from Greg. And guess what? Finally one of the bay area teams will win this week (don't even think about a tie!)
  • The Progressive Pro PK'EM again failed to produce a winner so the pot climbs to $3,524 for this week.  This is not rocket science (apparently it's worse!), just play a $5 card, pick all 15 winners or props straight up, and the jackpot is yours with any ties split.
  • Monday Night Football Poker Room Grid:  Squares are worth $74 each for this coming Monday’s Titans/Cowboys game. “The Grid” pays the first three quarters and the final score . . . you must be present to win and any unclaimed winnings roll to the following week. Check the details on this page and remember our Poker Room opens at 4 PM Mondays, Sundays at 8:30 AM and at noon on Tuesdays – Saturdays.
  • Enjoy $2 Domestic Draft Beer during all NFL games at the CVI.
  • On The Board! This week you can bet NCAA and NFL Football, NHL Hockey, NBA Basketball, the final week of the Canadian Football League regular season, the Sunday NASCAR AAA Texas 500 (what will happen between Joey Logano and Martin Truex Jr.?) and Horseracing (Breeders' Cup weekend). Futures include winners of the NASCAR Monster Energy Series, the NFL Conference Championships, the 2019 Super Bowl, the 2019 NCAA Football Championship, the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the 2019 Stanley Cup and the 2019 NBA Championship.
Careful With That Knife!
Add a Draft Beer and You're Set!
  • Thursday is Men Make Dinner Day. We bring this up for three reasons: First, we could not resist using the above picture for which we acknowledge daysoftheyear.com, our source for many of the “special” days we mention in this section. Second, the person who allegedly originated Men Make Dinner Day has same last name as one of our four casino properties. And finally, we just have to point you to the Top Ten Reasons To Participate in ‘National Men Make Dinner Day’ as posted on this page.
  • Saturday is Sandwich Day. Our favorites in Katie’s are the Nevadan (roast beef, Ortega chili and Jack cheese on grilled sourdough) and the Big Bird (sliced roast turkey, bacon, tomatoes and Jack cheese on grilled sourdough). Not as hungry? Go for the Daily Soup and Half Sandwich Special featuring the chef’s sandwich of the day and your choice from our two house-made soups each day.  Served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for just $4.99!
  • Tuesday is Nachos Day. Katie’s Macho Nachos are waiting for you . . . either “as they come” or with the meat-added option!
This Week in the Casino
  • 5X Points All Day Today: Don't let anyone scare you into thinking this isn't a good deal: Use your card while playing in the casino and earn 5X points today on our Slots and Videos!
  • Ladies’ Night Off Tonight: But you knew that from reading the article further above.
  • Point Multipliers Saturday: 4X Points on Reel Slots and Video Poker Slots all day every Saturday in November. Use your rapidly accumulating points for FreePlay, dining, Katie’s Bakery products, hotel stays and more!
  • $75,000 Holiday Giveaways Promotion Friday and Saturday:  Join us at 5, 7 and 9 PM both nights for drawings for cash and FreePlay!
  • Ladies Poker Tournament Sunday: Time again for our monthly Ladies-Only Poker Tournament starting at 4 PM.
  • Your Rewards Monday: INN Club members can swipe at the casino kiosk once on Monday for Your Reward. Could be FreePlay, a Free Food offer, a Free Multiplier or a Free Gift!
In Our Restaurants
  • Wednesday is Italian Day in Katie’s – three specials for $6.99 each served from 11 AM to 10 PM! The Friday and Saturday night special in Katie’s is Roasted Prime Rib & Fried Shrimp for $14.99 served from 4 PM.
  • Thursday’s special in CV Steak is the CV Steak Mix Grill, a combination of our Filet Mignon, a Dijon and molasses Marinated Pork Tenderloin Medallion and Herb Marinated Lamb Chop for $26. This Friday it’s Roasted Stuffed Quail with prosciutto, wild rice pilaf and plum port glaze for $28.00. Saturday night’s special is Garlic Studded Prime Rib for $26 and Sunday's special is King Crab Legs for $28. These specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato – au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked – tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread.
Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge
Cliff & Dave tonight, Decoy Thursday - Saturday, NFL Football Sunday and Monday nights and Patrick Major next Tuesday and Wednesday. Cliff & Dave is powerhouse singer/gospel drummer Cliff Porter and southern-fried singer/guitarist Dave Berry, often seen fronting the band Jelly Bread. Decoy brings their high-energy shows, excellent vocals and varied song list. The group was voted best Casino Band by the Reno News and Review for 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. An evening with Decoy includes the hits of artist such as Patsy Cline, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bruno Mars, Lynard Skynard, Cee Lo Green, Miranda Lambert, Sublime, Zach Brown Band, Led Zepplin, Journey, and more. Patrick Major’s style includes his own mix of original guitar and vocals combined with rock classics from the last four decades. Whether playing tunes from James Taylor to Dave Matthews, or his own compositions, he displays an unequaled emotion with all.

Some Concerts Near Sell Out, Two Gaming Tournaments, Kentucky Derby, More

He Wanted a Party – It’s Friday, May 12 in TJ’s Corral!
Before Stew “The Turtle” Stewart passed away earlier this year he told Joey Whitacre, our Director Of Marketing And Casino Operations, he didn’t want a “service” or “memorial,” he just wanted us to throw a party.  Music was Stew’s life-long passion and his biggest sense of pride was TJ’s Corral where he brought in great national acts including one of country music’s biggest stars, Merle Haggard.  So, the party is Friday evening May 12th in TJ’s Corral and we are affectionately calling it “Turtle’s Last Dance.”  The fun starts at 5pm, the Davisson Brothers – they had a special place in Stew’s heart – perform live at 6pm and the evening is free to all ages.

Concert Chatter
  • Thank you for your overwhelming support of our season opening concert!  We had a Sold Out
Aaron Watson June 16 in TJ's Corral
audience – and the best weather we could possibly have expected for late April – for the Wynonna and the Big Noise Tour concert last Saturday. Our thanks to Tahoe Onstage’s Pheonix Gruneich who posted this review.
  • Moving along, just a reminder that this weekly blog is supposed to be fun and light-hearted and we never intend to make serious predictions, give warnings or lecture. However, we did get a couple of “remarks” from people who missed out on Wynonna concert tickets because they waited too long. So, please don’t do the same if you have any intention of attending the Lee Brice Concert on May 20 or the Kenny Loggins Concert on Friday, June 9.  If we were into speculating, we would give you the “nod” that both of these concerts will be sold out in advance.
  • Also on sale now are tickets for the Aaron Watson featuring special guest Clare Dunn Concert on Friday, June 16.
  • For your convenience, here is a link to our Remaining 2017 Concert Lineup.
Sports and Race Book:
  • The Kentucky Derby is this Saturday and the draw for post positions is this morning at 8 a.m.
    - fans can watch a live stream through the Kentucky Derby's official
Facebook and Twitter pages.  We’ll start taking bets on Friday and you can place pari mutuel wagers during Sports and Racebook hours until post time Saturday. Of course we’ll be showing the festivities and race (3:46 PM PDT) in the Cabaret Lounge with $2 draft beer specials.
  • Also on the Board:  NBA Playoffs, NHL Playoffs, MLB, all other Horse Racing and Sunday’s NASCAR GEICO 500 at Talladega SuperspeedwayFutures include winners for the World Series and 2018 Super Bowl.  Here’s one that will probably come as no surprise to any football fan: according to the odds makers, the Patriots are currently most likely to win the Super Bowl and the Browns are the least likely.

Turns Out It’s More Than PR Fluff! We’ve often touted the Carson Valley Inn as “centrally located” for exploring, recreation, or whatever other activity meets the “promotional” needs of the subject at hand. Well this time we are making another such claim that is de-facto supported, ratified and sanctioned by a media giant! Our claim: the Carson Valley Inn is centrally located for visiting and experiencing two of the Southwest’s 10 Best Small Towns, Genoa and Virginia City! Who says? Turns out the folks who jumped in on the Readers’ Choice Poll conducted by USA Today. . . See the results here.

Some Stuff We Think is Important:
  • Mother’s Day is less than two weeks away and if you haven’t made dinner plans yet, we suggest you do so soon! We’re offering Mother’s Day Specials and our regular menu items in both Katie’s and CV Steak (CV Steak reservations strongly suggested at 775-783-6650).
  • Thursday is International Firefighter’s Day and we offer our sincere thanks and appreciation to all of the professional and volunteer firefighter/paramedics who make up the East Fork Fire District. We have witnessed your dedication, training, responsiveness and professionalism so many times over the years . . . the Carson Valley is so fortunate to have such a high level of protection in our area!
  • If you are at the Carson Valley Inn this weekend you’ll notice a few most-unusual sites and quite a high level of activity at TJ’s Corral both Friday and Saturday nights (is that really a great big tent?!)  We are pleased and honored to be hosting a major corporate event bringing 300 people from around the country to the Carson Valley for an employee appreciation weekend.
  • Band Tastic 2.0 is coming to TJ’s Corral on Saturday, May 13 . . . with over 200 student musicians from various Douglas County schools participating. Get it on your calendar (noon start) and we’ll have more details next week.
  • Today is National Two Different Colored Shoes Day. Do we really think this is important? Of course not. Do we think it is somewhat amusing and strongly indicative of people who have too much time on their hands and sit around thinking these “days” up? You bet we do! Are some of us around here wearing two different colored shoes today? Guess you’ll have to stop by see for yourself!

The group was voted best Casino Band by the Reno News and Review for 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. An evening with Decoy includes the hits of artist such as Patsy Cline, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bruno Mars, Lynyrd Skynard, Cee Lo Green, Miranda Lambert, Sublime, Zac Brown Band, Led Zepplin, Journey and more.  Local artist Bill Wharton’s smooth, melodic tone comes out in his vast repertoire from old classic country thru modern country, pop to classic rock, blues and jazz.  Acousti Pop-Duo "Half Dressed Mannequins" is a stripped down performance of the band “The Well Dressed Mannequins.” Hailing from Northern California, Denver Saunders (vocals/guitar) and Jarom Horner (6-String Bass) are known for inspiring dancing, laughing and sing-alongs wherever they play.
