Top Gun Songs Live in TJ's Corral, A Resort Fee Saga, Mother's Day Champagne Brunch, More

Top Gun and TJ's Corral
1986  . . . Kelly McGillis was 29, Tom Cruise was 35 and their movie Top Gun was quite the rage! The Top Gun tie to TJ’s Corral and the Carson Valley is threefold:  The movie features two songs by 2017 TJ’s alum Kenny Loggins (Danger Zone and Playing With the Boys) and one of the biggest hits of the Righteous Brothers (You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin') who are opening the TJ’s Corral 2018 concert season on Friday night, May 25. The third tie? The movie is about US Navy aviators and the Navy’s elite demonstration team The Blue Angels will be part of the 2018 Aviation Roundup Performer’s and Sponsor’s Party in TJ’s Corral on October 12!

Back to the Righteous Brothers:  Their non-stop romantic hits of the sixties and seventies are icons of that era and still elicit memories for those growing up in that decade plus. You can relive all those memories in the confines of TJ’s Corral in about six weeks so jump online now and get your tickets by Clicking Here. Your best and fastest bet for purchasing tickets for any TJ’s Corral concert is through our website which allows you to see the seating layout map and pick your seat(s) for one or more concerts in one transaction. You can also purchase tickets in person at our Hotel Desk.

The Resort Fee Saga
How does a $129 room rate become $209?
It’s technically not illegal or false advertising but we here at CVI sometimes think it should be! Let’s dive in ‘cause you may have had this happen:

You book a room somewhere with a really competitive rate – let's use $129 per night plus tax. In your head you figure this will be about $145 a night with tax and move along to the next thing.

You go to finalize your booking OR heaven forbid, upon checkout you have sticker shock when the three nights cost you not the expected $435, but over $625! You know you didn’t make any room charges, didn’t watch any pay-per-view movies, didn’t direct-dial a foreign country from your room phone . . .  so how did it happen?!

You look at the bill and see the expected $129 room rate and the expected $16 - $18 per night tax.  Then it hits you . .. There's an unadvertised “resort fee” of $25 - $35 per night for wireless, fitness center, and a couple of other things that you didn’t care about and certainly didn't use. There is also a parking fee of somewhere between $25 and $35 per night and a 3% city improvement tax and another 2% stadium or convention center add-on. You add it all up and discover that your advertised $129 plus occupancy tax per night actually cost almost $200 more than expected for the three nights.
Don’t be fooled by those “competitive” or cheaper online rates. Here at CVI we charge the rate you were quoted plus the obligatory 13% tax that is the total of all the little parts of our various state and county taxes. There's no resort fee because our wireless internet access, fitness center, business center, etc are all free. And you won’t see a parking fee because parking is also free at the CVI. So, that extra $200 will pay for a nice dinner in CV Steak one night, breakfast two days in Katie’s and a few treats in Job’s Perk. Case closed . . . see you here at the CVI on your next trip!
Tidbits
  • Today is Banana Day. We have so many options to properly acknowledge the event today at the Carson Valley Inn: Banana Pancakes is the pancake of the day from 7 to 11 AM in Katie’s, have a Banana Split anytime today in Katie’s, or take the party home with one of our Banana Cream Pies (full size or mini) from the Katie’s bakery counter. If none of those sound good (that can’t be true!), stop by Job’s Perk and order one of our Banana Smoothies or a Banana Nut Muffin!  You say you’re trying to eat healthy today? Then slide into Katie’s, order a bowl of oatmeal, and ask for a sliced banana on the side!
  • Friday is Volunteer Day. The Carson Valley Inn offers our sincere thanks to our many, many local customers and other local residents who serve as volunteers to help keep our community safe and provide extra services to those in need!!!

We Do Miss Things . . .
But We’re On Top of This One!
We’ll be at first to admit that we occasionally miss something – like last week when our blog said Canvas Tote Bags would be given out on Ladies’ Night and it was actually Trinket Boxes. And there have been times we’ve left a poster up well past an event . . . or misspelled something in this blog or our newspaper or something similar. However, since some of you have mentioned it, here’s the deal: We are well aware that our billboard on Highway 395 across from Sunridge Golf Course is still showing the promotion we ran in February and March. This one’s a good story – and we’ll tell you all about it in a future blog when we get it resolved. For now, suffice to say that it’s nothing we did and nothing the billboard company did . . . it’s just “one of those things” that is beyond our control!

Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge
Arizona Jones tonight through Saturday, Cliff and Dave Sunday and Monday and Tim Snider Tuesday and Wednesday. In the modern-day entertainment scene often infused with technological enhancements, Arizona Jones prefers to do it the old fashioned way - live and personal. And when they put their rockin' spin on classic R&B hits from the 60's and 70's, you never know who'll be singing louder, the audience or the band. The group plays the hits from Aerosmith and Amy Winehouse to Wilson Pickett and ZZ Top . . . and many artists in between. So . . . bring your dancin' shoes! Cliff and Dave is powerhouse singer/gospel drummer Cliff Porter and southern-fried singer/guitarist Dave Berry providing an evening of sultry R&B, funk and swinging rock ’n’ roll. Tim Snider not only plays violin but loops guitar, percussion, and vocals into a sound that has been described as a “world-folk hybrid, aimed at the heart, the head and the feet.”
