Harley's Tonight, New Katie's Specials, Football Marathon, More

Harley Giveaways Tonight! Yes, tonight is the night and we guarantee we will be giving away a Free Harley - or choose $10,000 cash - at both the Carson Valley Inn and Bodines Casino.  The drawings are at 5 and 7 PM at Bodines and at 6 and 8 PM at the CVI. We've been talking about it all month and now it's time to see who comes out the winner at each location. Many, many of you are entered . . . So come on down tonight because you have to be present to win!

Some New Katie's Dinner Specials in October: Katie's is continuing the tradition of offering a different value-packed dinner special each day from 2 to 10 p.m. and we have some new specials for October. Mondays, Katie's is featuring a Pork Chile Verde Plate with rice and beans for $5.99. Corned Beef and Cabbage is returning on Tuesdays in October - served with red potatoes and creamed horseradish sauce for $6.99. On Fridays and Saturdays, Katie's has a new Captain's Platter including battered cod, butterflied fried shrimp, fried clam strips, French fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce and cocktail sauce for $11.99. Click here for all the Katie’s specials.

Progressive Giveaways and More October Promotions:  We’re bringing back our Weekly Progressive Giveaways in October with a chance to win Cash & FreePlay every Friday and Saturday at Bodines Casino and the Carson Valley Inn. You automatically receive 1 free entry for every 5 points earned during the month and Sharkey’s customers receive their free entries into the weekly CVI Giveaways. Over 300 Winners will receive Cash & FreePlay prizes in October and the Progressive Jackpot starts at $2,500 and will progress $2,500 each drawing night if not hit - up to $20,000! The CVI also has 3X Points all day on Wednesdays and Saturdays and 5X Points all day on Halloween. Click here for information on all our October promotions!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the granddaddy of local events for this cause is the annual Bunko for Breast Cancer coming up on Saturday, October 24 in our Valley Ballroom. The committee of GE Bently Nevada volunteers is busy now gathering prizes and accepting entries from individuals and teams. To get involved, contact Pamela at 775-215-1001 or click here to send her an email. 100% of all funds raised at this event are donated to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center.

$11,000 for Austin's House! Thanks to all who attended the Austinpalooza in TJ’s Corral a couple of weeks ago. And thanks also to the four bands who volunteered their time and talents. Your collective efforts plus contributions from GE Bently Nevada and the Carson Valley Inn raised over $11,000 for northern Nevada’s only emergency shelter and compassionate care home for  children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect.

Ladies Poker Tournament Sunday: Our monthly ladies only No-limit Texas Hold'em Bounty Poker Tourney is this Sunday – a perfect opportunity for the ladies to enjoy camaraderie, laughs and prizes without the guys looking over your shoulder and rolling their eyes! Don’t let the “no-limit” part scare you. There’s a $40 buy-in which gives you $2,000 in tournament chips. There are no rebuys, so your maximum exposure is $40 even though you can bet your chips with a “no limit” approach. If you happen to get an hour of “live” poker play in prior to the tournament on Sunday, you get an extra $500 in tournament chips. And if you need to brush up on your game, come by at 3 PM Sunday when free poker lessons are offered. Check out all the Poker Room tournaments, promotions and special games at this link.

Race and Sports Book:
  • This week you can watch and bet Horseracing, Major League Baseball games, NFL and College Football, and Sunday’s NASCAR AAA 400 at the Dover International Speedway.
  • The PRO PK’EM jackpot has climbed to $3,008 on this week’s progressive parlay card.
  • Our sports book crew had one word after last weekend’s NFL games: Ouch! Most of the favorites either won or “covered” and we learned once again that the house doesn’t always win . . . and that includes all three of our houses: CVI, Sharkey’s, and Bodines!
  • Always getting in trouble for watching too much football on Sundays? Might as well buy the flowers and plan to move into the doghouse right now. This coming Sunday the Jets and Dolphins kick off at 6:30 a.m. Pacific Time in London which means sports junkies can go from 6:30 in the morning until the end of the Saints/Cowboys Sunday Night Football game about 14 hours later!  And while we don't expect that anyone would actually do it, you could theoretically watch those 14 hours of football sitting in our Cabaret Lounge. By ordering one each of our seven bar bites (delivered to your seat) throughout the day, you'd have plenty to eat. The beer would also be delivered and you'd only have to get up for an occasional restroom trip and to place a bet or cash in a ticket at the sports book. Hmmm - perhaps somebody really will do this!?
Cabaret Lounge Entertainment – No Cover, No Minimum – Free! Jonathan "JB" Barton performs tonight and Thursday, the John Dawson Band entertains Friday and Saturday nights, NFL Football is on Sunday and Monday Nights and Steve Lord appears next Tuesday and Wednesday. The John Dawson Band was a big hit with the many dozens of people who swarmed the Cabaret Lounge a couple of Fridays ago after the Lee Brice concert so we're bringing 'em back due to popular demand. John and his band are a Reno based group of five fun-lovin' guys who just like to play music and entertain with a variety of modern country and classic rock. Steve Lord is a main stage West Coast performer. A guitarist and dynamic vocalist, Steve presents an evening of oldies, country, pop, blues, jazz, soul and rock 'n' roll.

As Always, Interesting, Helpful and Even Useful Tidbits and News
  • Mike's Horses: A frustrating weekend with an out-of-the-money finish Friday at Los Alamitos followed by one scratch, one out-of-the-money and Hoppertunity finishing second in the Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita on Saturday.
  • Wednesday Ladies' Night is OFF Tonight: With our sincere thanks to the many ladies who support this long-running Wednesday night promotion, we are taking a week off out of respect for our own ladies in the Casino Marketing Department. They will be very busy tonight with the grand finale drawings for Two Free Harleys or $10,000 Cash.
  • Duck Friday, Prime Rib Saturday, King Crab Sunday in CV Steak:  Our Friday Special this week is Grilled Duck Breast with onion jam marmalade and duck bacon for $28.00. Saturday night its Garlic Studded Prime Rib for $26 and Sunday's special is one pound of King Crab Legs for $32. All these specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato (au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked), tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread.
  • Because We Feel Like Mentioning It:
    • Thursday is International Coffee Day which, we just found out, is different than Coffee Day which was on Tuesday, September 29 and only celebrated in the US. Seems “they” could agree to do this on the dame day but we don’t want to ask a stupid question!
    • Friday is Techies Day - a great opportunity for us to give a shout out to our talented,
focused and hard-working IT Team of Theresa, Nate, Josh and Jim. Together they keep us all operating at the Carson Valley Inn, Sharkey's Casino and Bodines Casino.
    • Sunday is both Improve Your Office Day and National Vodka Day. Let's see: go into the office on Sunday and make some improvements . . . or enjoy a few Bloody Marys and a few flavored vodkas while watching the longest day of football?  Oops - sorry, that was a Stupid Question!
    • Monday is World Teachers Day - no joke or cute remark on this one . . . our sincere appreciation goes out to all the teachers who dedicate their careers to educating our youth!

Lee Brice Thank You, Candy Dance Shuttle, Best of Carson Valley

Lee Brice Concert Big Success - Thank You!
What an incredible night last Friday at the Lee Brice Concert. You made it a sold-out crowd, you came to party, and you certainly did not disappoint! The two pictures tell the story in a nutshell: lots and lots of cowboy hats, thousands of pictures taken with smart phones, many toasts to those present and missing, and a rousing and warm expression of gratitude to Lee and his band by the audience at the end. Our thanks go out to Lee, his band and his crew for providing an exciting and electrifying finale to our 2015 concert series in TJs Corral. And thank you especially to all of you who bought tickets and attended our concerts this year. Without your support these special evenings in the Carson Valley would not be possible! What about next year's concert schedule for TJ's Corral? Many of you have asked and we are working on it now. Most scheduling and booking won't happen until early 2016 and we will have announcements in our weekly blog and on our web site as we confirm bookings - most likely as the Spring of 2016 approaches.

Harley Giveaway Very Close! This Friday and Saturday night are the last weekend opportunities to qualify for the Two Free Harleys or $10,000 Cash drawings happening next Wednesday night, September 30.  Whatever your age (21 or over, of course) and whatever your likings, you could either fulfill a lifelong dream by winning a brand-new Harley-Davidson, or bolster your bank account with $10,000 in cash. The drawings are next Wednesday: 5 & 7 PM at Bodines Casino and 6 & 8 PM at the CVI.

Best of Carson Valley! Between the Carson Valley Inn and Sharkey's Casino we had over 20 "in the money" finishes in the recent Best of Carson Valley voting conducted by The Record Courier.  We didn't do anything on-site or through our blog or multiple social media outlets to promote this voting. Best we can remember, we didn't even mention it was going on. So, the list below was without any “solicitation.” With over 100,000 "vote early, vote often" votes tallied – and after pouring thru the results in the magazine that came out in last Friday’s paper – the below list is how we fared. Thanks very much to all of you who helped us garner this impressive list . . . and thanks also to The Record Courier for choosing to hold their luncheon honoring the winners today in our Valley Ballroom:

Mike's Horses Do Well! Speaking of finishing in the money, Mike Pegram, owner of the Carson Valley Inn, Sharkey's Casino and Bodines Casino, ran two horses at Los Alamitos last weekend and brought home two winners! Mike's 3 year old Filly Girl Downstairs won the 6th race on Thursday and his 2 year old Colt Toews On Ice won the Barretts Juvenile Stakes on Saturday. Both winners were ridden by jockey Martin Garcia and trained by Hall-of-Fame Trainer Bob Baffert.

Poker Room Musings: The Friday night Poker Room hot seat drawings for a free wheel spin have been changed to high-hand-of-the-hour. We’ll now be awarding a free spin to whoever has the highest hand of the previous hour at 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 p.m. on Friday. This change caused us to take a look at the Poker Ladder and we discovered something interesting: The cut off is coming up on September 30 to determine the top 50 point earners for our October drawings totaling $2400 cash (this is not the interesting part in case you are scratching your head). As of yesterday, there were dozens of CVI poker players who, while below the cut off line, were within one wheel spin of jumping into the top 50. This will make more sense if you look at the details of all our poker promotions, tournaments and special games at this link.

Genoa Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire This Weekend: Northern Nevada’s largest arts and crafts faire is this weekend in downtown Genoa and, as in past years, the Town of Genoa is running a shuttle service connecting the Carson Valley Inn and the Candy Dance. Click for information on shuttle times and cost. For those staying at the Carson Valley Inn this weekend, and golfing at either of the Genoa Lakes Golf Courses on Saturday or Sunday, you’ll have to go the “long way” which makes it a 30 minute trip instead of 11 or 12 minutes.

Cabaret Lounge Entertainment – No Cover, No Minimum – Free! John Palmore performs tonight, After Dark entertains Thursday through Saturday nights, NFL Football takes control on Sunday and Monday Nights and Jonathan "JB" Barton appears next Tuesday and Wednesday.  After Dark plays favorites from the 60’s through today with lots of 70's hits. This high-energy rock 'n' roll band will get you out of your seat and on your feet with their continually growing song catalog and a fun-loving following.  Jonathan "JB" Barton has shared the stage with a few legends including Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. His love for a variety of musical styles is apparent in his selection of favorites from Van Morrison, CCR, Hank Williams, Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Eagles and many more.

As Always, Interesting, Helpful and Even Useful Tidbits and News
  • Wednesday Ladies' Night 5:30 to 8:30 PM: The first 150 ladies to sign up tonight receive a free gift and coupon for tonight's ladies-only drink special. We also have ladies-only raffles and hot seat drawings for Tahoe Toffee Gift Baskets.

All these specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato (au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked), tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread.
  • Race and Sports Book: This week you can watch and bet Horseracing, Major League Baseball games, NFL and College Football, and Sunday’s NASCAR Sylvania 300 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The PRO PK’EM jackpot is at $2,826 on this week’s progressive parlay card. The NFL game we’re watching with the most interest this week? The Raiders and Derek Carr visiting the Browns and Johnny Football!
  • 45 Years of Monday Night Football: First MNF Game was September 21, 1970. Do you remember who played? Browns and Jets (quarterback then?)! Who were the announcers?
  • Because We Feel Like Mentioning It:
    • This Thursday is Punctuation Day. Which we bring up only because we deal with it every week in writing this blog.
    • Friday is One Hit Wonder Day which music journalist Wayne Jancik defines as "an act that has won a position on the national pop Top 40 just once." How many one-hit wonders do you remember? Do you remember the name of Steve Martin's only Top 40 hit? How about the only hit by the Baha Men?
    • Monday is Drink Beer Day and, just in case you’re not sure how to celebrate, we have dozens of draft and bottled beers available at the Cabaret Bar and CV Steak Bar here at the CVI, the Sports Bar and the Casino Bar at Bodines Casino, and the Silver Dollar Bar at Sharkey’s Casino.

Lee Brice Friday, Wine Walk Thursday, More

Lee Brice Concert Sold Out! Should be one heckuva party this Friday night at the Jagermeister Presents Lee Brice concert with a sold-out crowd, great weather predicted, and Lee’s Nevada Notoriety skyrocketing since he was announced as part of the Daytime Village lineup at the iHeartRadio Music Festival this Saturday in Las Vegas! Since many of you attending the concert also read our blog, we hope you take a minute to look through the following so that you can be ready to enjoy the concert in the most comfortable manner:
  • If you have tickets to pick up at Will-Call (opens at 4 p.m. at TJ’s Corral entrance), please make sure you have a driver’s license or other valid picture ID (nothing homemade, please). We want to make sure that the correct tickets get to the correct people so we’re going to be quite diligent!
  • There will be no re-entry this Friday so please bring your jackets, sweaters, medicine, sunscreen, cash, credit card, cigarettes (only in the designated area, please), blankets for the grass area, etc. when you first enter.
  • Please do not bring any pets, chairs, glassware, bottles, or drones (yep, happened once last year and the artist was ready to shut down the concert).
  • We 're starting earlier than previous concerts: The doors open at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m..
  • We'll see you Friday rain or shine . . . although that should not be a problem because the weather forecast is quite good for this Friday!
  • Please bring cash or use the ATM machine in the casino prior to entering TJ’s Corral. We will be equipped to accept credit cards at the TJ’s Corral bars, but there will be a surcharge for each transaction. So, our advice is go back to Plan A and bring cash.
  • Lee Brice . . .
    • Attended Clemson University on a football scholarship and played on some special teams as the long snapper.
    • Wrote Eli Young Band’s hit song “Crazy Girl,” the Billboard year-end top country song of 2011.
    • Wrote Garth Brooks’ “More Than a Memory,” the first single in the history of the Billboard Hot Country Songs to debut at #1.
View of Hawaii from Sharkey's Roof (Just Kidding)
Last 2015 Thirsty Third Thursday Wine Walk this Week! Sharkey’s Casino will again participate in the Thirsty Third Thursday Wine Walk from 4 to 7 PM this Thursday. Hawaiian is the theme for the finale of this summer series of monthly community social gatherings sponsored by Main Street Gardnerville. Be sure to register for the Wine Walk starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at either Big Daddy's Bicycle Shop near the Minden-Gardnerville line or at the Town of Gardnerville office across the street and two blocks south of Sharkey's. Come dressed in your version of Hawaiian apparel and stop by Sharkey's Jackpot Café before or after the wine walk for Thursday's $7.99 Hawaiian Beef Stroganoff Special! (What? I guess we got a little overzealous – it’s really just regular Beef Stroganoff!) As for the Hawaii picture, it  was taken by one of our vacationing employees on Maui earlier this week!

Reno Airport Shuttle Service Extended! Good news from our friends at Amador Stage Lines who run the Carson Valley Airporter – the contract for this scheduled shuttle service between the Carson Valley and Reno Tahoe International Airport has been extended for at least one more year! The Carson Valley Airporter is an excellent way to bypass the expense of parking your car while you’re gone for more than a few days . . . and a convenient way to get to the CVI after flying into Reno!

Cabaret Lounge Entertainment – No Cover, No Minimum – Free! George Pickard performs tonight, the Josh Budro Band entertains Thursday, the John Dawson Band rocks the Cabaret stage on Friday and Saturday nights, NFL Football takes control on Sunday and Monday Nights and John Palmore appears next Tuesday and Wednesday. Vocalist, song writer and guitarist Josh Budro started singing and writing songs about life experiences when he was in high school. While maintaining a love for the old country music he grew up on (Waylon, Willie, Hank, Merle) Josh and his band are definitely true country rock and roll. The John Dawson Band is a Reno based group of five fun-lovin' guys who just like to play music and entertain with a variety of modern country and classic rock. John Palmore is an accomplished singer and keyboardist who has worked with Jackie Wilson, Mary Wells, ZZ Hill, Wilson Pickett, Joe Simon, Percy Sledge, The Platters and other artists.

  • Wednesday Ladies' Night 5:30 to 8:30 PM: The first 150 ladies to sign up tonight receive a free gift and coupon for tonight's ladies-only drink special.  There are also ladies-only raffles and hot seat drawings for World Market Gift Baskets.
  • Penny Progressive Jackpot: Seems like just a few weeks ago we announced the big $99,000  Penny Progressive winner. After the jackpot reset to $500 it has quietly climbed up to almost $12,000!
  • Chef's Choice Friday, Prime Rib Saturday, King Crab Sunday in CV Steak:  Our Friday Special this week is Chef's Choice, Saturday night its Garlic Studded Prime Rib for $26 and Sunday's special is one pound of King Crab Legs for $32. All these specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato (au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked), tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread.
  • Race and Sports Book:
    • This week you can watch and bet Horseracing, Major League Baseball games, NFL and College Football, and Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup myafibrisk.com 400.
    • As for the opening week NFL games, the crew in our sports book put it very succinctly, “there were a lot of surprises!” A few popularly bet teams not only didn’t cover but lost (Seahawks, Colts and Eagles for example) and one particular underdog (Forty Niners!) not only won but played surprisingly well. With so many surprises, the PRO PK’EM jackpot went unclaimed and it climbs to $2,665 on this week’s Progressive Parlay Card.
  • Because We Feel Like Mentioning It:
    • This Thursday is International Country Music Day and we're definitely in the spirit with country groups Josh Budro Band (Thursday) and the John Dawson Band (Friday and Saturday) in the Cabaret Lounge and country star Lee Brice in TJ's Corral Friday night.
    • Here's a good one: this Friday is Cheeseburger Day (we serve them in Katie's at the CVI, the Jackpot Café in Sharkey's Casino and the restaurant at Bodines Casino)  followed by just what the doctor ordered to cure the cheeseburger binge, International Eat an Apple Day on Saturday!
    • Sunday is Wife Appreciation Day - ironic since Sunday is also the day many men direct their attention to their wives only when she stands between themselves and the TV with the football games.

Austinpalooza this Friday in TJ’s Corral The Fifth Annual Austinpalooza sponsored by GE's Bently Nevada and the Carson Valley Inn is this Friday, September 11 from 5 to 10 p.m. in TJ's Corral. Here’s a quick course in Austinpalooza 101:
  • What is Austinpalooza? It’s a festival of bands started in 2011 from an idea developed by a GE Bently Nevada executive who sat on the Austin's House board. He wanted to create an event that would raise money, provide community fun and involve GE employees. After three years at local restaurants and bars, the Austinpalooza was moved to TJ's Corral in 2014 so that even more people could enjoy the bands and more money could be raised for Austin's House.
  • Which Groups Are Appearing? The evening's nonstop entertainment will be provided by Miki Rae, The Engineered Disaster, Seymour's Trick Bag and Lavish Green.
  • Sounds Good, How Much to Get In? No tickets are necessary and no admission will be charged. However, donations will be appreciated at the door and all monies raised will go directly to benefit Austin’s House, the only Emergency Children’s Center in Northern Nevada.
  • Will There Be Any Food or Beverages Available to Buy? You bet! The bar will be open the whole time and two food trucks are scheduled to provide options for eating: Nevada Nosh (Classic Americana tasty treats) and Los Caporales (Authentic Mexican Cuisine).
  • OK, I’m Interested. Tell Me More.
    • 15 year old Miki Rae is a singer/songwriter whose lyrics focus on the different opinions of love, the troubles of the youth and the idea of hope. This young artist strives to inspire others through her musical works.
    • The Engineered Disaster (TED) is comprised of six engineers employed at GE Bently Nevada.  The group specializes in classic rock.
    • Seymour's Trick Bag is a rock quartet of current and former GE employees. The original lead singer is the former Chief Financial Officer of GE Bently Nevada and he is flying in from Boston just to support the Austinpalooza.
    • Both TED and Seymour's Trick Bag offer their services at no charge for significant events of either a fund-raising or GE company nature.
    • Lavish Green is a quartet of Carson Valley natives who describe themselves as "bound
for glory, tied together with family and fastened to music!" The group has been living life and creating honest music for over 19 years bringing live entertainment to a wide range of audiences. If you open your eyes, ears and mind to Lavish Green, there is something for everyone.
    • Pistachio Productions (Derek McCreavy and Ed Colling) is providing full concert staging, sound and lighting for the Austinpalooza.
    • The common bond between all of the performers and production staff is simple: They are all providing their services at no charge so that every dollar raised at the Austinpalooza can go directly to Austin's House and benefit the children that this facility serves.
  • What is Austin’s House All About? Austin's House provides emergency shelter and compassionate care for children who have been removed from their home due to abuse or neglect. They stay until they are either reunited with their family or an appropriate long term placement is made. Under the guidance of the placement agency, Austin's House supports each child's educational, health, and emotional needs while striving to keep them in the school they attended before being placed at Austin's House.

Free Harleys, New Dinner Specials, Murals Up at Sharkey's, More

Two Harley's and $25,000 in September: Our September casino promotion is up and running and we are giving away two Harleys and $25,000 this month! Use your player card and you are automatically accumulating a drawing entry for every five points earned during September. Drawings at the CVI are at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday for cash and free play. Sharkey's casino players are entered into the drawings at CVI and we look forward to giving away the two new Harleys or $10,000 in cash on September 30 – one at the CVI and one at Bodines Casino! Check at Guest Services at any of our three properties for more information and also check this page for our other current CVI casino promotions.

New Month, Some New Food Specials: Each month we make some minor changes to the dinner specials offered in Katie's at the Carson Valley Inn and the Jackpot Café in Sharkey's Casino. This month is no exception. For a full list of the nightly dinner specials in Katie's, please check this link. As for Sharkey's, the Sunday through Thursday specials are at this link and our Friday and Saturday night special is at this link.

World Famous Gardnerville! Remember way back at the beginning of 2015 when plans for the revitalization of Sharkey's were approved? OK, we really didn't expect you to remember, but we do. Part of that original approval was for two murals on the outside of Sharkey's, both welcoming visitors to historic Gardnerville. Over the last few months, these murals were painted by our architect Larry Henry. "Smaller" prints were made and are hanging in Sharkey's: one is on the back wall of the Jackpot Café and the other is on the Gilman Street wall of the casino. Meanwhile, the digital files were sent away to a company that specializes in turning these images into exterior signs that will withstand the elements. The big murals finally arrived along with all of the mounting hardware and the installation started yesterday. While both present the seemingly same Gardnerville message, many of the little images are different - see if you can recognize some of the scenes and individuals.

On the Outdoor Entertainment Front
  • Austinpalooza Friday September 11: Popular South Lake Tahoe Ska/Reggae band Lavish
    Green
will be headlining this year's Austinpalooza which also features Miki Rae (Indie Pop), The Engineered Disaster (Classic Rock) and Seymour's Trick Bag (Rock). The four bands will provide five hours of non-stop Friday evening entertainment in TJ's Corral. A couple of food trucks will be on hand, beverages will be available to purchase and you can enjoy it all without having to buy a ticket! Donations will be accepted and appreciated for Austin's House which provides emergency shelter and compassionate care for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. The Austin's House website has more information on their mission. Please join us as to help keep this incredible community service going strong!
  • Lee Brice Friday, September 18: our mainstream advertising for the Jagermeister Presents Lee Brice concert in TJ's Corral on Friday, September 18 started this week and with it the expected surge in ticket sales. Fortunately, it appears that many of our concert regulars already have their tickets – and this is a good thing because the current trend clearly indicates that this event will be a sellout prior to September 18. Get tickets through our website, at our Hotel Desk or by calling 775-783-6606.

As Always, Interesting, Helpful and Even Useful Tidbits and News
  • Mike's Horses: Mike had two winners out of three horses running at Del Mar last week.
Midnight Edition won the eighth race on Thursday and Gimme Da Lute won the El Cajun Stakes on Saturday. While Gimme Da Lute has had a pretty good career so far with six wins in nine starts, the colt is certainly the exception. We have to wonder if Mike sometimes contemplates why he simply didn't name some of his other horses You Keep Da Lute! If we mentioned all the out-of-the-money finishes you'd again realize that horse racing is not a business for the faint of heart!
  • Wednesday Ladies' Night 5:30 to 8:30 PM: The first 150 ladies to sign up tonight receive a free gift and coupon for tonight's ladies-only drink special.  There are also ladies-only raffles and hot seat drawings for Chocolate Shoppe Gift Baskets.
  • Duck Friday, Prime Rib Saturday, King Crab Sunday in CV Steak:  Our Friday Special this week is  Grilled Duck Breast with fresh herbs for $28, Saturday's is Garlic Studded Prime Rib for $26 and Sunday's special is one pound of King Crab Legs for $32. All these specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato (au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked), tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread.
  • Race and Sports Book: This week watch and bet Horseracing, Major League
    Baseball
games, Pre-Season NFL Football, Regular Season College Football and Sunday's Bojangle's Southern 500 NASCAR Race. A few items of note:
    • College Football is taking full advantage of no NFL regular sason games this weekend by offering games on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday . . . plus a Monday Night Game featuring Ohio State vs. Virginia Tech!
    • Our first 2015 Football Parley Cards will be out this week (probably Wednesday afternoon) featuring mostly (perhaps all) college games.
    • If you are into futures betting on who will win this season's Collegiate Championship, you might check the various odds this week . . . "things" may change after the first weekend of play!
    • Lots of Stakes Races at Del Mar the rest of this week through Monday as the Summer Meet winds down.
Because We Feel Like Mentioning It:
  • Thursday is Welsh Rarebit Day which we bring up only because we know there are number of people who will click on the link just to find out what Welsh Rarebit really is (we had to)!
  • Friday is Hug Your Boss Day. We only bring this up because it might be a good way to prepare for Boss Employee Exchange Day on Monday. If you get into any of this, let us know how it works out for you. And if it doesn't go well, we suggest you be prepared for Work like a Dog Day next Wednesday!
  • Saturday is Be Late for Something day. Like this regular occurrence really needs a special day!
