Sister is Making Her Way Here for
Easter Catechism
We caught up with Sister by phone earlier this week in Ft. Worth. She is slowly making her way to Minden as she travels through the country spreading her Sister's Easter Catechism message. She'll have a few words by video in next week's blog for those who have not yet purchased tickets. So, don't run the risk of getting “called out” and get your tickets now for this hilarious and tastefully irreverent comedy show on Saturday, April 20 in our Valley Ballroom. Either stop at our front desk while you are at CVI or purchase them online at this link.

Another Wild Saturday Night!
What a commotion in the casino last Saturday in the weekly drawing for our Rent Money Giveaway!! Stephen Figueroa was in visiting with his in-laws who were staying in the hotel.  He was one of our Hot Seat Winners earlier in the evening and chose the Porter Cable Shop Vac because he knew would get good use out of it. As luck would have it, the box was marked to “advance to the 7:30 drawing.”  Stephen had that winning feeling so he went up to the pool to tell his wife he’d have a chance to win $5,000 at 7:30. Not realizing his chances had risen to one in ten by then, she just laughed and said “good luck.”  Come the 7:30 drawing all ten of the qualifiers were standing in front of a table with chocolate discs in front of them. On the count of 3 they all picked them up and – with his father-in-law, mother-in-law & two sisters-in-law cheering him on – well watch the video above for the hoots, hollers and cheers! Our Rent Money Giveaway Promotion continues through April - will you be next!

Fred Mason Fanning Out Some of His Winnings
Fred Hit a $10,231 Target Last Saturday
“I got into a bonus and started getting extra spins . . . I watched as the amount kept climbing and got up to over $10,000 – Sure was exciting and fun!” So said Fred Mason after winning $10,231 on our Wonder 4 Wonder Wheel slot last Saturday. Fred is a long-time regular at our winter and summer CVI Sporting Clays events. He also visits the CVI over a dozen more times each year when attending other sporting clays events at the nearby Carson Valley Clays Club.  According to Fred, “I’ve won before and I know I’ll win again!”

  • Today is Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day. We just have to bring it up 'cause we do have country concerts in TJ's Corral and we just wanted to use the above picture for which we credit the Days of the Year site, our go-to source for many of the tidbits you read in this section.

Our suggestion is the Seafood Brochette in CV Steak: skewered salmon, swordfish, halibut, scallops and shrimp with a chili lime cilantro.  Served with vegetable; choice of baked, twice baked or au gratin potatoes; house salad and baguette of French bread all for $27!
  • Monday is also One Cent Pay, a day dedicated to the history and origins of the one cent coin, colloquially known as the penny. Reminds us to point out that the Penny Progressive Jackpot recently topped $33,500 and this payout can only happen when someone lines up the appropriate symbols at the Carson Valley Inn, Sharkey's Casino, SlotWorld Casino or Bodines Casino!

Martina McBride Added to TJ's Concert Schedule, More from the Carson Valley Inn

Martina McBride Added to
2019 Concerts in TJ’s Corral
Martina McBride has joined the 2019 Concert Lineup in TJ’s Corral and she will be performing on Sunday, August 4.  Martina is a multiple Grammy® nominated country icon whose incomparable vocals have kept her at the top of the charts garnering six No. 1 hits and twenty top 10 singles. Selling more than 18 million albums to date, McBride has earned fourteen Gold, nine Platinum, three Double Platinum and two Triple Platinum certifications. McBride has been honored with more than 15 major music awards, including four wins from the Country Music Association and three Academy of Country Music Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year.  Tickets for Martina’s concert will go on sale as soon as we pin down all the details – look for an announcement in next Wednesday’s blog.

Meanwhile, tickets are available now for our other upcoming concert and events including Sister's Easter Catechism on April 20, Easton Corbin on May 24, Uncle Kracker on June 29, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts on July 4 and Dwight Yoakam on July 26.  We’re working on two or three more 2019 concerts and events for TJ’s Corral so look for announcements in this blog which is updated every Wednesday morning at 7 AM.

A Tesla Charging Outside of TJ's Corral
Charge Your Tesla Here!
It is now more convenient than ever to drive your Tesla on overnight trips to the CVI because you can be all charged up before the trip home. And if you are passing through and need a boost, you can load about 100 miles in about the time it takes to have lunch in Katie's and a little fun in the casino. All this is possible thanks to the very recent addition of four Tesla Destination Charging Stations which are located on the south wall of TJ’s Corral.

Rick Started with This . . .
He Turned Trash Into Cash!
Rick Lane was in town last weekend to join his family for his grandmother’s Celebration of Life. A fun-loving bunch not strangers to our casino, the group was in on Saturday night and Rick’s name was pulled in one of the hot seat drawings between 6 and 7:30 PM. He looked over the various Costco gifts available and latched on to the box of Kitchen Trash Bags. Further examination revealed the box also had the ticket he needed to move onto the 7:30 PM festivities for the weekly rent giveaway. Rick and 10 other finalists chose a special chocolate gift and the one Rick picked was the winner! He was given the choice: take $5,000 Cash and call it a day or spin the wheel for a chance at up to $7,800. The picture is worth five thousand words!
And Turned it into This!
Special Days
  • Today is Ravioli Day. Here are two options:
    • Stay home and roll out a part of your pasta dough very finely on your worktop, fill with a filling of your choice, seal with a top layer of pasta, and then boil for 2-3 minutes. Serve with a tomato or cream-based sauce for a hopefully lovely and memorable meal and a definitely messy cleanup!
    • Or, come in to CV Steak and enjoy our Porcini Mushroom Ravioli either as a Starter (that’s fancy talk for Appetizer) or as an Entrée. It’s an easy choice for us: See you in CV Steak tonight!
  • Thursday is French Bread Day. We don’t make French Bread in our bakery, but we do bake the incredibly delicious Sourdough Baguette’s served warm in CV Steak every night and they are the perfect accompaniment to the Porcini Mushroom Ravioli appetizer or Entrée!
  • Saturday is Puppy Day. Everyone loves puppies and you’ll definitely smile when you watch this short 1-minute video from SG Gaming promoting their OMG! Puppies! video slots. And of course you can play one of these slots here at the CVI – any of our casino floor personnel can lead you to the spot!
  • Monday is Waffle Day. Celebrate this one any day of the week ‘cause waffles are available daily in Katie’s from 7 to 11 AM.
  • Tuesday is Spinach Day. We know most of our readers would rather have something (anything?) other than spinach, but we do have to touch all bases. Our suggestion? Order the Spinach Salad in Katie’s and spring for a few extra bucks to add the Grilled Chicken and Avocado options!
Basketball’s Maddest Week!!
  • The NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament . . . the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament  (CIT). . .the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) . . . So many acronyms, over 100 teams, dozens of games and hundreds of thousands of cheering alumni! It’s all crammed into what is collectively referred to as March Madness over the next couple of weeks. With over four dozen 65-inch screens around our Cabaret Lounge, Casino Bar, Table Games Area, CV Steak Bar and Poker Room, we can pretty much cover any game that’s televised. And very few can resist the temptation to put at least a few dollars on their alma mater or favorite team because there is no better boast than telling your college buddies that you put your money where your heart was whether your team wins or loses!
  • Ever wonder what the historical odds are of a particular seed winning in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament? Our friend Bill Chernock, Executive Director of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, had this info in his update to members yesterday and we are sharing it here as he presented it:
No. 1 seed vs. No. 16 seed: 135-1 (99.26%)
No. 2 seed vs. No. 15 seed: 128-8 (94.12%)
No. 3 seed vs. No. 14 seed: 115-21 (84.56%)
No. 4 seed vs. No. 13 seed: 108-28 (79.41%)
No. 5 seed vs. No. 12 seed: 89-47 (65.44%)
No. 6 seed vs. No. 11 seed: 85-51 (62.5%)
No. 7 seed vs. No. 10 seed: 84-52 (61.76%)
No. 8 seed vs. No. 9 seed: 69-67 (50.74%)
  • In Addition to College Hoops: There are plenty more sports to watch and wager with the continuation of NBA Basketball, NHL Hockey, Alliance of American Football League games, the NASCAR STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway, Spring Training Baseball and Horseracing.

Sometimes Skis are Better Than Wheels!
We think this wagon would’ve had a much better chance if those big wooden wheels were two big wooden skis! However, had that been the case, this artistic image might not have been one of the winners in Visit Carson Valley’s most recent #WHYCV photo contest! And speaking of skiing, with the brief blast of additional snow today conditions should be quite good this weekend at Heavenly Lake Tahoe and Kirkwood, the two Vail Resorts so easily accessible to guests at the Carson Valley Inn. Stay at the CVI where rates are more reasonable and it’s easier to get around . . . and then drive to these two resorts when you’re ready to ski!

Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge
Denver Saunders Duo tonight, Arizona Jones Thursday thru Saturday, Rock River Sunday and Monday and Jeff Campbell Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Denver Saunders Duo is a stripped down performance of the band “The Well Dressed Mannequins.” Denver Saunders (vocals/guitar) and Jarom Horner (6-String Bass) are known for inspiring dancing, laughing and sing-alongs wherever they play.
In a scene so often dominated by technology and gimmicks, Arizona Jones prefers to do it the old fashioned way - live and personal.  When they put their rockin' spin on classic R& B hits from the 60's and 70's, you never know who'll be singing louder, the audience or the band. They play the hits from Aerosmith and Amy Winehouse to Wilson Pickett and ZZ Top.
Rock River is Buddy and Kim from the Buddy Emmer Blues Band presenting an evening of blues and other music!
Jeff Campbell is a vocalist,  impassioned  songwriter  and  lifelong  musician . . .  an emotional,  evocative  poet  with  a  rock  lover’s  heart!

Sister with "Sacramental Wine"
During Her 2016 Visit as “Father Matt” Looks On
Which “Sister?”
We’ve had two highly successful “Sister’s Catechism” shows in our Valley Ballroom: Late Night Catechism in 2014 and Sister’s Christmas Catechism in 2016.  A few folks have asked which sister will be here to teach us Sister's Easter Catechism on Saturday evening, April 20. Word around the convent is it’s going to be the same Sister who so effectively corralled the congregation, intimidated with her wooden ruler and elicited spontaneous laughter at the 2016 show. Don’t miss her return – more information here.

Job Fair This Thursday
The image above says it all – so join us Thursday as we spring into our busy season and join the never-a-dull-moment in the worlds of the Carson Valley Inn, Bodines Casino, SlotWorld Casino and Sharkey’s Casino. We’ll be accepting applications, interviewing and even making some job offers on the spot! Here is a list of current positions as of yesterday . . . And there could be even more by Thursday afternoon!

Blood Drive Saturday
Vitalant – formerly known as United Blood Services – will have their Bloodmobile Bus at the CVI this Saturday, March 16 collecting blood donations from 10 AM to 4:00 PM. You can make an appointment in advance on this web page, by calling 800-696-4484 or go to this FaceBook Event and click Find Tickets (no – you are not actually buying anything!). The Bloodmobile will be in our west parking lot, along Hwy 395 near our electronic sign. Definitely get this out of the way before you start your St. Patrick’s Day Imbibing!

St. Patty’s Day Party Sunday

The single-elimination NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament’s  67 games take place over a period of 19 days starting Tuesday with the First Four in Dayton, OH. We’ll be showing every one of these 67 games in the friendly environment of our Cabaret Lounge and Casino Bar!

Adam Donald tonight, The Blues Monsters Thursday thru Saturday, Mighty Mike Schermer Sunday afternoon and the Denver Saunders Duo Monday through Wednesday.

  • Adam Donald brings an upbeat and entertaining solo show with a heavy arsenal of songs mixing today’s hits with some old country favorites.
  • The Blues Monsters are a popular red-hot rockin' blues band from the North Lake Tahoe and Reno area. The group performs a powerfully unique combination of R&B, funk, jazz, and Chicago-style blues. Whether paying respects to the masters of traditional blues, or rockin' out other tunes.
  • Mighty Mike Schermer was a fixture on the Bay Area blues scene for over 20 years and has become the “go to guy” sideman for such heavyweights as Elvin Bishop, Maria Muldaur, Angela Strehli, Bonnie Raitt, Howard Tate, Charlie Musselwhite, Sista Monica, Shana Morrison and many, many more.
  • The Denver Saunders Duo is a stripped down performance of the band “The Well Dressed Mannequins.” Denver Saunders (vocals/guitar) and Jarom Horner (6-String Bass) are known for inspiring dancing, laughing and sing-alongs wherever they play.
