Sports BBQ, Craps Carousel, Get Your Foot in Our Door, More

One of the Ten Best Steakhouses in Nevada!
CV Steak in the Spotlight
We’ve always touted CV Steak as one of the best values in northern Nevada – and that’s certainly been supported by our customer comments whether in-person, by email, on social media, through online reviews or the old fashioned comment cards. We received another vote of support recently when Best Things Nevada ranked CV Steak #5 on their list of The 10 Best Steakhouses in Nevada! Puts us in some pretty good company when you consider the many high-end steak houses in Las Vegas alone.

Winnie Won – Wow!
Okay, so it’s not as exciting as the million-dollar Wheel of Fortune winner or the three $10,000+ Lightning Link jackpot payouts we mentioned in our blog last week. However, Winnie’s $4500 payout on one of our Triple Play Poker machines was fun to see because she’s in here all the time and is one of those “how can you not love her” regulars. We even saw some of her personality come out a couple of nights later when we ran into her entering CV Steak with some family for dinner. One of us flippantly said to her “congratulations, we hear you’re buying tonight!” She never missed a beat with her retort, said with a gleam in her eyes and a wink, “As a matter of fact, I am!”

Play Craps for a Quarter?
Yep, $.25 is the minimum bet on the new Shoot to Win Craps™ Carousel at our sister property Bodines Casino. This player-initiated CRAPS game recreates all the betting zones of the traditional table game. With an easily understood HELP menu and BET screens, all players ranging from beginner to expert can enjoy this popular game. If playing live craps is somewhat intimidating to you, these new slots are a great way to learn the game without anyone poking you to move faster. And as you get more comfortable, we welcome you to join us here at the CVI for live craps on Thursday thru Saturday evenings. Because we know you’ll probably ask, we checked with Steve Forester, our corporate slot guru, and asked him when we might have one of these flashy Craps Carousels here at the CVI. His answer, “it’s coming!”

Support DHS Sports Programs at the BBQ this Saturday
Looks like the weather will be quite nice for the Douglas High School Athletics Memorial Dinner happening in TJ’s Corral this Saturday, from 4:30 PM to 7 PM. The event is a combined effort of Block D, the DHS Athletic Department and the DHS All Sports Boosters and the whole purpose is to raise money for all the DHS sports programs. Tickets are just $25 for a generous BBQ buffet with all the trimmings and you can purchase tickets from members of any of these teams: Football, Cross Country, Tennis, Volleyball, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer and Girls Golf.

Chargers at home as a pick’em against the Eagles and Alabama -28 vs. Ole Miss. Greg is taking Fresno St. -10 ½ against the struggling Nevada Wolf Pack and the OVER 48 ½ in the Patriots – Carolina game.

This and That
  • Today is Tourism Day.  Thanks to the many out-of-town visitors who stay at the Carson Valley Inn and dine in our Valley’s restaurants, buy gas, partake in the many events and recreational activities in our area and generally bolster our economy!
  • Thursday is Drink Beer Day.  No, we're not going to list all of the different beers we have available by the bottle and on tap at the various bars at the CVI, Bodines Casino and Sharkey’s Casino . . . But we kinda did just remind you about the possibilities!
  • Sunday is the start of October and with it a number of "National Months," one of which is National Pizza Month. Just another quick reminder that the fresh-made, hand-tossed pizza at Bodines Casino is the best!
  • Sunday is International Coffee Day. Bringing it back to something we can get our arms around: stop by Job’s Perk and enjoy one of our many coffee specialty drinks.
  • Monday is Name Your Car Day another reminder that there can be a holiday for just about anything all thanks to the proliferation of the Internet and social media. It got to the point recently that one writer decided to use “Talk like a Pirate Day” to write this article about made-up holidays.
  • Really not trying to bury this one, but it needs to be mentioned: Saturday is the last day for the Carson Valley Airporter shuttle service between the Carson Valley and the Reno Tahoe International Airport. The transportation grant use to help fund the service was not renewed due to low ridership.

Million Dollar Winner, Candy Dance, Pizza, Lobster and More

You Read It Correctly:
Bodines Casino Had a Really Big Winner Just a Few Days Ago!
Progressive Jackpots Hitting Left and Right!
Just two weeks ago we put an article in our blog about all the Progressive Jackpots at the CVI. Well, we must have tickled something somewhere because the Lightning Link major progressive has now hit three times in eight days! At the CVI, it hit for $14,601 on Tuesday, September 12 and again for $10,539 last Saturday.  And at sister property Sharkey’s Casino the Lightning Link Progressive hit yesterday for $12,402 (note: the Lightning Link progressive at each property is separate). Not to be outdone, our other sister property “lit it up” on a massive scale when the Wheel Of Fortune® Progressive Jackpot hit for $1,052,574.99 (see picture above) last Saturday at Bodines Casino in Carson City!  Obviously these progressives do hit so we draw your attention to the Penny Progressive Jackpot which topped $46,000 yesterday. This one climbs – and can be won – at all three properties: CVI, Bodines Casino and Sharkey’s Casino. We’re on a hand-out-the-cash roll; will you be the next recipient?

Speaking of winners, and we haven’t touched this subject in quite a while, Mike had two winners last Friday at Los Alamitos: Hot Blooded Girl and Zap Again. Why no horse news in so long? As we’ve stated before, owning and running race horses is not for the faint of heart.

Sports Theme to the Last Wine Walk this Thursday
The last Thirsty Third Thursday Wine Walk is this Thursday from 4:30 – 7:30 PM in downtown Gardnerville and you can’t do the wine walk without passing by or through Sharkey’s Casino! This month’s theme is Athletic/Sports so wear a jersey, uniform, hat or other garb from just about any team for which you have something hanging in your closet!  All the details are at this link and be sure to put a stop at Sharkey’s in your Thursday Wine Walk Game Plan!

The Carson Valley’s second biggest tourist crowd of the year is expected this weekend when the annual Candy Dance Art & Crafts Faire takes over the Town of Genoa this Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM.  A friendly reminder that the road in downtown Genoa will be closed from 7 AM to 5 PM both days so plan accordingly to “go the north route” if you’re traveling from the Carson Valley Inn to one of the Genoa Lakes golf courses. Another friendly reminder: if you’ve taken the shuttle service between the Carson Valley Inn and the Candy Dance in the past remember that, as they posted last year, the Town of Genoa will no longer be operating this service. However, parking areas and driving routes are well-defined and can be found at this link.

Hungry?
Today is National Pepperoni Pizza Day. We  are taking it upon ourselves to declare this a three-day celebration, today through Friday! If you have ample time and an idle mind, a search of the Internet will turn up any number of sources claiming that pepperoni is the most popular topping on pizza. And we can think of no better place to enjoy a freshly-tossed, assembled-to-order and hot-from-the-custom-oven pizza than at Bodine’s Casino.  Actor/Comedian Kevin James supposedly said, “There’s no better feeling in the world than a warm pizza box on your lap."  We say, “Enjoy it fresh out of the oven at Bodines. Any leftovers, we’ll give you a box, take it home, have it for breakfast the next day!”

Monday is National Lobster Day and we’ll cut right to the chase on this one and recommend the Surf and Turf Dinner Special in CV Steak: a 6-ounce filet mignon paired with an 8-ounce lobster tail! This hearty special starts with a tableside tossed salad and also includes vegetable plus your choice of a twice-baked, au gratin or baked potato. Funny thing if you dig into the history of lobster and how it became such a delicacy: a railway started serving the meat as an exotic item to its unknowing passengers!

Football and Other Sports info
  • Our Guys Picks:  Collectively the guys had a pathetic week with Mike picking the only winner of six games.  Mike’s 5 & 1 start proves it pays to work in the Sportsbook.  This week he looks to pad the wallet with the OVER 52 in the Iowa – Penn St. game and Michigan St. +4½ at Notre Dame.  Alan’s 4 & 2 record looks to improve with the Eagles – 6 against the Giants and Mississippi St. +5 at the Georgia Bulldogs.  With an abysmal 1 & 5 record Greg proves to know nothing about sports wagering (Sales Department – figures) and will try to dig out of the hole with Duke – 2 ½ vs. UNC and the Raiders – 3 ½ at the Redskins.
  • Enjoy $2 Draft Beer during all NFL games at the CVI - and our staff will bring your bar bites order to you right at your seat.
  • The Progressive Pro PK'EM is at $2,777 (lucky number for you?) this week. Play as many cards as you wish – just $5 each!

A guitarist with dynamic vocals, Steve Lord presents an evening of oldies, country, pop, blues, jazz, soul and rock 'n' roll.

Monday Night Football Party, DHS in TJ's Corral Again, Much More

Football  and Other Sports Info
  • Monday Night Football in the Cabaret Lounge will take on a party atmosphere September 18 when we’ll be displaying this year’s Ultimate Tailgate Party package and also welcoming the folks from The Winning Seat. As a reminder, we’re drawing a few names every Monday to qualify for the Ultimate Tailgate Package which will be given away during the Monday Night Football game on December 18. The Winning Seat is a free fun app (see video above) you can download on Google Play or the Apple Store and there are plenty of prizes to be won!
  • Enjoy $2 Domestic Draft Beer during all NFL games at the CVI - and our staff will bring your bar bites order to you right at your seat.

  • NFL hats, tee shirts, Budweiser merchandise and other prizes are given away in drawings during Monday Night Football at the CVI.
  • $160 Monday Night Football Grid in our poker room every week – earn entries during live poker games.
  • Our Guys Picks:  The Sportsbook Guys are on FIRE – they’re 8 -0 to start the year!   Mike will keep it rolling this week by taking the LSU Tigers -7 at Mississippi St. and Purdue at +7 over Missouri.  Alan hopes to keep his perfect prognosticating with the over at 44 in the Lions-Giants game and the Eagles at +4½ over the Chiefs. Greg’s less than perfect 1 & 3 record has to improve with the under of 56 in the Clemson vs. Louisville game and the Seahawks to cover 13 ½ points against the lowly 49er’s.
  • Place Your Bet: We are taking action on Major League Baseball, Horse Racing, NFL and College Football and the NASCAR Tales of the Turtles 400 at the Chicagoland Speedway this Sunday. Futures on the board include winners for the World Series, 2018 Super Bowl and 2018 NCAA Football Championship.
  • Sports tickets can be cashed-in at Guest Services when the Sports Book is closed. Horse Race tickets can be cashed only when the Race and Sports Book is open. Winning sports bets placed at any of our three casinos (CVI, Bodines and Sharkey’s) can be cashed at any of the three locations.
DHS Athletes to Swarm TJ’s Corral
The Douglas High School Athletics Memorial Dinner will be held in TJ’s Corral on Saturday, September 30 from 4:30 PM to 7 PM and this is a great opportunity to enjoy a barbecue dinner and help support the sports programs at Douglas High School. The event is sponsored by Block D, the DHS Athletic Department and the DHS All Sports Boosters and they’ve assembled quite an army of ticket sellers made up from members of the following DHS sports teams: Football, Cross Country, Tennis, Volleyball, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer and Girls Golf. They’re all out now selling the $25 tickets which get you in to chow down on a buffet of Mesquite BBQ Chicken Breast and Chicken Thighs, BBQ Saint Louis Baby Back Ribs and Smoked Beef Brisket plus an assortment of salads, sides, and desserts. Here’s the best part: all $25 of your ticket price goes towards Douglas High School sports programs and the kids help make this possible by assisting with the set up, serving and cleanup. In the unlikely event you are not approached by at least one of the members of the teams mentioned above, you can always stop by the Tiger Cage at Douglas High School or call them at 775-782-5136, ext. 1868.  Beer and wine will be available for purchase for the adults.

This’ll Get You Psyched for the Aviation Roundup!
A whole slew of military and civilian performers and static aircraft displays will be on hand during the Aviation Roundup at  Minden-Tahoe Airport on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 & 8. Get into the spirit by watching the 30-second video above and save a few bucks by getting your tickets in advance at this link. If you are more “tell me” than “Show me,” read all about it in this article from the Record Courier.

Hungry?
Having no idea how this all comes about, we’re just pointing out that Friday is National Double Cheeseburger Day, Sunday is National Monte Cristo Day and Monday is National Cheeseburger Day. Each of these days has a “story” and we invite you to click the links to read more about them. From our perspective, it’s more about sharing how you can celebrate these days in Katie’s at the Carson Valley Inn: our Classic Cheeseburger starts with a 1/3 pound char-grilled burger to which we add your choice of cheddar, American, Swiss or Jack cheese. We serve it with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles plus your choice of fries, potato salad or coleslaw. If that’s not quite enough, punch it up with another patty and more cheese and enjoy one of our Super Double Cheeseburgers! Our Monte Cristo is actually one of the Katie’s menu favorites. This deep-fried sandwich has ham, turkey, Swiss cheese, American cheese and syrup and also includes your choice of fries, potato salad or coleslaw.

Patrick Major tonight, Arizona Jones Thursday through Saturday, NFL Football on Sunday and Monday and Bill Wharton Tuesday and Wednesday. Patrick Major performs his own mix of original guitar and vocals combined with rock classics from the last four decades. In a scene so often dominated by technology and gimmicks, Arizona Jones prefers to do it the old fashioned way - live and personal. And when they put their rockin' spin on classic R&B hits from the 60's and 70's, you never know who'll be singing louder, the audience or the band. They play the hits from Aerosmith and Amy Winehouse to Wilson Pickett and ZZ Top . . . and many artists in between. Local artist, Bill Wharton has a vast repertoire from old classic country thru modern country, pop to classic rock, blues and jazz.

Sunday is International Country Music Day - a great excuse to share the new Justin Lee video that was shot, in part, in TJ’s corral at a free concert back on August 12. Interested in how it all came together? Check out the video above and, if you were at the concert, you might even see yourself in one of the shots!

NFL Football Returns, Beer Lovers Rejoice, Blackjack Tournament Tuesday, More

Penny Progressive Climbing
We have no idea what it really means when someone says a jackpot is “due to hit” so we won’t make that claim with respect to our Penny Progressive Slots. Just saying that it has “hit” for less than the current total and for more than the current total. However you look at it, all it takes is a 90-coin bet!

The USAF Thunderbird Ground Show
will be Part of the Aviation Roundup October 7 & 8
Aviation Roundup Just a Month Away
It’s now just a month until the US Air Force Thunderbirds headline an exciting list of military and civilian performers during the Aviation Roundup at  Minden-Tahoe Airport on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 & 8.  Get your tickets at this link.

For Our Many Beer Loving Customers
Thursday is National Beer Lover's Day and how coincidental that it falls on the same day as the very first NFL football game of the 2017/2018 season! How does one celebrate National Beer Lover's Day? Why do we love beer so much? How did all this get started? Who really knows, but there are some great speculations at this link and this link. And here's even more entertaining information on the subject of beer: someone who considers himself or herself a beer enthusiast is sometimes referred to as a Cerevisaphile (two weeks in a row for a 13 letter word)! To learn more about this moniker and some other interesting facts about beer, click here. And if you enjoy beer, whatever you call yourself, you'll find plenty of selections in draft, bottled and canned brews at the various bars in the Carson Valley Inn, Sharkey's Casino and Bodines Casino. Drink responsibly and enjoy!

Football at the Inn Now Fully Inflated!
Just $5 to Play!
  • Over 40 HDTVs and the full NFL package provide plenty of viewing opportunities in the Cabaret Lounge, Cabaret Bar, pit area, poker room and CV Steak Bar. Add in the HDTVs at Sharkey’s Casino and Bodines Casino and the total swells to almost 90 screens!!
  • Enjoy $2 Draft Beer during all NFL games at the CVI - and our staff will bring your bar bites order to you right at your seat.
  • The Progressive Pro PK'EM is back at all three properties with a special $5 parlay card each week. The Jackpot starts at $2,500 and climbs based on play until it hits . . . just like a slot progressive. Play as many cards as you wish!
  • NFL hats, tee shirts, Budweiser merchandise and other prizes are given away in drawings during Monday Night Football at the CVI.
  • The Ultimate Tailgate Package is also back and we’ll be giving away one at each of our three casinos. We’ll draw a few names every Monday to qualify and the Ultimate Tailgate Packages will be given away during the Monday Night Football game on December 18. What’s in an Ultimate Tailgate Package?  That’s a fair question . . . It’s a bunch of pretty cool Budweiser logo items and more and we'll have details in our blog next week.
  • A $160 Monday Night Football Grid is on tap in our poker room every week and you can obtain squares by making various hands during the week in live poker games. Check the details on this page and get in on the $40 payouts for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters and for the final score.
  • Our Guys Picks: Our guys went 4-2 last week . . . Mike and Alan were both 2-0 and Greg went 0-2. Technically, all three of them could have a perfect record this year! This weekend, Greg likes New Mexico State University at +7½ over the University of New Mexico and the University of Arizona at +1½ over Houston. Mike picked Illinois at +8 over Western Kentucky and took the over on Iowa vs. Iowa State at 48. Alan went with the Eagles at -1 over the Redskins and USC at -6½ over Stanford.
