Craps the Easy Way!

Craps is one of the most exciting casino games and, as a bonus, is the table game with the most favorable odds for the players. For some, it’s an adrenaline rush they totally understand. Clint Black is next up on the TJ’s Corral 2018 schedule and the Friday, June 29 concert has less than 50 Standing Room tickets remaining. As a reminder, feel free to bring a blanket (no chairs) and relax on the slightly elevated grass area behind the seating section. If you’ve been to a TJ’s concert, you already know the grass area is pretty darn close to the stage. Following Clint, Ted Nugent rocks the TJ’s stage on Wednesday, July 4; Trace Adkins rolls in on Saturday, July 14 (limited tickets remain) and Creedence Clearwater Revisited  wraps up the season (unless we add something that falls in our lap) on Sunday, August 12. Purchase tickets through our website which allows you to view the seating layout map and select your seat. You can also buy tickets in person at the Hotel Front Desk.

• Are you sort-of retired but still want to work a couple of days a week to stay socially connected and earn a few extra bucks?  Or, perhaps you are only available 4 hours a day and want to work during those free hours to maintain your sanity or save for a special purpose? While we are looking to fill a number of full-time positions, some of our openings could also be perfect for reliable part-timers.

Swim a Lap, Workout, Soak!

• Thursday is Daylight Appreciation Day which is a fancy way of saying the “longest” day of the year. Means there will be plenty of daylight for this month’s “Thirsty Thursday Wine Walk” in Gardnerville. Sip ‘n’ Show is this month’s theme and be sure to show us your official wine glass when strolling through Sharkey’s.  Demont and his crew have a Free Sharkey’s T-shirt for all official wine walk participants during this week’s event.
• Thursday is also World Music Day. Enjoy your favorite genre and “mark” the day by latching onto tickets for one or more of our four remaining concerts in TJ’s Corral!
• Saturday is Swim a Lap Day. If that’s your thing, and you’re a guest in our Hotel, Motor Lodge or RV Park, jump into our indoor pool on the second floor and get started! Complete your workout on one of the treadmills or the multi-station weight machine in the adjacent fitness room and then wind down with a soak in one of the hot spas while taking in the mountain views.
• Next Wednesday, June 27 is the All-American Blood Drive here at the CVI from 10 AM till 6 PM. The Bloodmobiles will be parked in our lot along Hwy 395 near the big electronic sign and you can get on the schedule by calling 800-696-4484 or click here to schedule online.

Nohema, was working in the casino. She was gracious and friendly even when my grandmother was not. Our friends at the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce reported yesterday that the16th year of Eagles & Agriculture still has limited openings for the three largest elements of the event: The Thursday night Welcome Reception and Photo Exhibit on January 25, the Falconers Dinner on Friday, January 26 (in our Valley Ballroom) and the Ranch & Eagle Tour on Saturday morning followed by lunch in our Valley Ballroom. Katie's Chicken Tortilla Soup

January is Soup Month which is not surprising since statistically it’s the coldest month of the year in most parts of our country including Northern Nevada.

No problem keeping warm here at the CVI as we serve two different house-made soups by the cup or bowl in Katie’s each day starting at 11 AM. Katie’s Navy Bean Soup has been a daily standard for over 30 years.  The rotation for January for the second soup of the day is Cream of Broccoli on Mondays, Chicken Tortilla on Tuesdays, Tomato Pesto on Wednesdays, Chicken Florentine on Thursdays, New England Style Clam Chowder on Fridays, Beef Barley on Saturdays and Potato Cheddar on Sundays.

While probably not technically a soup (Google the question and  you'll understand why we said probably), Katie’s also serves Beef and Bean Chili every day!

On the Sports Front

• Our Guys Picks: The football season concluded with the Guys going 3 & 3. It was a season of great picks by our Sports Book Guys as Alan and Mike each had 20 wins and 14 losses. This 59% win percentage would make all sports gamblers proud. On the flip side the Sales Guy Greg ended the season with a 12 & 22 record to ensure he will keep his obviously much-needed day job. As the NFL playoffs approach all three of the guys wish you all the best with your bets. And be sure not to ask Greg for advise in this arena!

Annual Free Veteran’s Day Spaghetti Feed

Our 7^th Annual Free Spaghetti Lunch for all Veterans and Active Military – plus one guest – is coming up on Veteran's Day, Saturday, November 11 in the Valley Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All area Veterans and active military personnel are welcome - simply present your military ID and lunch for you and your guest is on the Carson Valley Inn!  If you don't have your ID, just tell the host about your service to our country and they’ll welcome you anyway! Lunch includes fresh tossed garden salad with cherry tomatoes, croutons, parmesan cheese and Italian Dressing; spaghetti with choice of marinara sauce or Bolognese (meat sauce); garlic bread and assorted cookies.

Thanksgiving Day dinner specials will be served along with our regular menus in CV Steak and Katie's Country Kitchen plus we’re also offering our popular Thanksgiving Dinner to Go for Up to Ten.

• CV Steak is open Thanksgiving Day from 2:00 p.m. with two featured Thanksgiving dinner specials.  The Wood-Roasted Diestel Tom Turkey special is served with giblet pan gravy, sage apple herbed bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with pecans and spiced maple sauce, fresh vegetables and Grand Marnier cranberry relish for $26.  The Garlic Studded Prime Rib of Beef special is served with creamed apple horseradish sauce and choice of double-stuffed baked potato, au gratin potatoes or giant baked potato for $29. What Time Is It? Depends Where you Look!

30 years ago when Daylight Saving Time ended in the fall it took just a few minutes to twist the hands back on the three or four clocks in your house (and possibly one in your car back then). Fast forward to this coming weekend and start thinking about the number of timekeeping devices that are affected: in the kitchen there's your oven, microwave, the coffee maker and possibly the refrigerator. Those probably have to be set manually. Fortunately, most of year personal electronic devices will reset automatically: the smart phone, your tablet, your laptop or desktop computers, step tracker and more. Same with the cable or satellite system and the associated time displays. Still have an answering machine on your home phone? That may or may not reset automatically. How about the timers on your sprinkler system or any devices set to turn lights on or off in your home? Better check your automobiles: most of those clocks still need to be reset automatically. After you have spent most of Sunday morning double checking all of this, we invite you to come on down to the Carson Valley Inn for breakfast, or lunch, or football viewing or, if it's later in the day, the Chandler Chicken Dinner in Katie's from 2 to 10 PM.

It’s all About Eating Here or Working Here!

• Thursday is Men Make Dinner Day. The "rules" allude to men supposedly having to actually prepare dinner at home. However since the creators of this day are not known, nor is the date when it originated known, we say to the men, "Make reservations at CV Steak by calling 775-783-6650!"  And if you really want to stretch your luck (and probably get clobbered!) claim the reason for the dinner out is to recognize Housewife's Day on Friday!
• Friday is Sandwich Day which is of special note to us gaming business folks. Seems John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich was a heavy gambler who often spent many long hours in London's gambling parlors. As the story continues, he purportedly created the sandwich by putting meat between two pieces of bread which helped him remain at the gambling table for long periods of time. Those “gambling hall” days are in the past, but the sandwich has flourished and we offer plenty of choices in Katie’s here at the CVI, the Jackpot Café at Sharkey’s Casino and in the Bodines Casino restaurant.

• Our Guys' Picks:  Alan’s perfect picks last week propelled him up the overall standings.  This week Alan’s will take the Eagles –8 against the Broncos and the Wildcats +7 at the USC Trojans. Greg will take the improving UNR team +22 at Boise St and Iowa St. +2 ½ at West Virginia.  Mike’s lock of the week is UNLV –8 against the Rainbows, he’ll lean on Texas A&M +15 against Auburn.

Eli Young Concert, Davisson Brothers Coming Back, Beer, More

Eli Young Band Concert August 14:  ACM, CMA, Grammys – The Eli Young Band has had songs nominated by all three of these prestigious organizations and more. Above we feature their #1 hit "Even If It Breaks Your Heart" which brought them numerous nominations in both 2012 and 2013.  The EYB will be performing this song along with their other top 10 hits plus new releases in TJ’s Corral on Sunday, August 14 and we hope you’ll be joining us. Davisson Brothers Coming Back!!  And they’ll be rocking the TJ’s Corral stage as part of our 32^nd Birthday Celebration on Saturday, August 27! Their appearance is free as our birthday gift to the many customers who have called, written, posted on social media, emailed and otherwise screamed out, “PLEASE BRING THEM BACK!”  We'll also have plenty going on inside the casino and all the details are on our website.

The Temptations Review last Saturday night was another incredible night in TJ’s Corral. Dennis Edwards led 80 minutes of steadily building nostalgia that had the younger people in the audience complaining about the older folks upfront dancing and blocking their view! Our friends at Tahoe Onstage did another fine verbal and pictorial review that pretty well tells the story.

Jackpot Firestorm! Whatever we said in last Wednesday’s blog triggered a firestorm of jackpots. Last Thursday we had two $5 Wheel of Fortune winners:  Allen D. for $10,000 and Jeff H. for $5,045. Later that evening, Gary pocketed $97,704 when he hit our Penny Progressive Jackpot. We figured that should be about it for the week, but as Steve Martin used to say, “But Nooooo!” The very next day Heather R. won $27,438 when she hit the Major Jackpot on the new Buffalo Stampede video slot.  These plus over four dozen more “under the radar but not small” jackpots in excess of $1,000 made it a very good week to be playing slots at the CVI.

Are You a Ballot Box Stuffer? We certainly hope not because it’s definitely not something we advocate.
