  • NCAA College Football: Over four dozen major college games are on the schedule (and open for wagering) over the next four days starting with the UCLA Bruins at the Cincinnati Bearcats at 4 PM Thursday and ending with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish visiting the Louisville Cardinals just 100 miles south on I71 at 5 PM on Monday.
  • Additional seasonal action on the board includes Major League Baseball, Canadian Football, WNBA Basketball and Horse Racing.  We’re also taking bets on this Sunday’s NASCAR Monster Energy Series Southern 500.
  • Futures Bets on the board include the 2019 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup, 2019 World Series, 2020 NCAA Football Championship, 2020 Super Bowl, 2020 NBA Championship and 2020 Stanley Cup.

A Friend, Nohema, Glenda & Michael Toasting Lightning Strikes!
Lightning Strikes Again!
Early this spring Glenda and Glenn moved to our area and we’ve gotten to know them as their new home is being built. They recently sustained a few “lightning strikes,” none of which caused any damage. About two weeks ago the Major Jackpot on the Lightning Link slot bank near the Cabaret along the Hwy 395 wall hit Glenda for under a thousand dollars – more like a bee sting. The big bolt came from the Grand Jackpot on the same slot bank when it struck Glenda for $11,718 last week. It was Glenn who shared this jackpot news with Julie in our Marketing Department. She was skeptical at first ‘cause he told it like one of the fishing stories that often is “spun” after Glenn has been out fishing with CVI’s MOD Malcolm and bartender Matt. In this tale, Glenn’s wife Glenda got the two fish (the money) and Glenn got to tell the story!!

Free T-Shirt When You Donate Blood
Battle of the Badges Blood Drive Thursday

The Northern Nevada, Northern California area needs about 150 units of blood a day and you can help make sure that we have a safe blood supply for patients in our community by donating this Thursday at the CVI! The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive runs from 10 AM to 6 PM and the folks from Vitalant (formerly United Blood Services) will have their bloodmobiles set up in our west lot along Hwy 395. All donors receive a Free Battle of the Badges T-Shirt while they last and you can make an appointment by clicking here or simply show up, tell ‘em Buffy sent you, and they’ll squeeze you in!

Stranglehold on Concert Tickets, Cash is King, Our Beautiful Town

Stranglehold on Concert Tickets!
Could be the artists. Could be the pent-up desire for entertainment. Could be the “word” is out on the incredible setting and ambience of TJ’s Corral for a concert. Probably a combination of all this and more that’s putting a “Stranglehold” on tickets and producing sellout crowds for our outdoor concerts this year. Granger Smith was sold out, Clint Black was sold out, a handful of standing room tickets remain for Ted Nugent tonight, and Trace Adkins is already sold out for July 14. For all this we offer our sincere thanks! This type of support, especially with all the other concerts going on in Northern Nevada, is so encouraging and already has us planning for more new entertainment during the 2019 season!

Moving ahead to our last scheduled concert of the year, we have tickets available for the Creedence Clearwater Revisited performance on Sunday, August 12. Rock out to Creedence tunes, join us post-concert in the casino and spend the night! Rooms are available that night in both our Hotel and Motor Lodge with rates starting at $99.  Purchase concert tickets through our website which allows you to view the seating layout map and select your seat. You can also buy tickets in person at the Hotel Front Desk. Reservations for the Hotel, Motor Lodge and RV Park can be made on our website or by calling 775-783-6629.

Looking Back at Clint Black Last Friday: Great review and pictures by Pheonix Gruneich of Tahoe Onstage at this link . . .  Thanks to Clint who tweeted to CVI, “Many thanks! Great crowd, great staff to work with at the venue!” . . . and our thanks for the many, many positive post-concert comments on social media!

James Mabe with Cash and Check Totaling over $73,000!
This Cardiologist Visit Was Really Good!
Yesterday’s visit to the cardiologist was over $70,000 to the “good” for James Mabe. A Smith Valley rancher, James said he only plays the Penny Progressive slots when he stops by the CVI. At other times of the year, he stops in more often. However, since it’s the heart of haying season, his visits are fairly scarce this time of year. Yesterday was an exception, however, as he had a cardiologist appointment. With most of the day shot due to the appointment, he decided to stop by the CVI and invest a couple of hundred dollars trying for the penny progressive. His investment paid off to the tune of $73,686! Not sure that spending the day haying yesterday would've paid that much!

Patrica (l) and Dana & Jane (r) Show Off $7,500

At Bodines Casino and Slot World Casino, winners were given the choice between a new ATV for exploring the miles and acres of hills and trails in our area . . . or $7500 in cash. Both Karen (Bodines) and Patricia (Slot World) took the cash! $30,000 in one night – nice haul for our players!  During July we’re cutting right to the chase and giving our casino players a shot at a total of over $40,000 in various Progressive Cash Giveaways at the four properties including $15,000 up for grabs right here at CVI!

Chicken & Chocolate!
Lots of Chocolate at CVI for
Chocolate Day on Saturday
  • Friday is Fried Chicken Day.  The good news is that we offer a Southern Fried Chicken Breasts Plate every day in Katie's. The great news is our $5.99 Chandler Chicken Dinner Special every Sunday from 2 to 10 PM!  This top-selling special has an almost cult-like following with many repeat customers who not only enjoy this exceptional value, but also sometimes table hop to visit with other Sunday "Chandlerites!"
  • Saturday is Chocolate Day. We have plenty of chocolate choices at the CVI with rich chocolate-desserts in CV Steak, chocolate fudge cake in Katie's, chocolate fudge brownies and chocolate chip cookies at the Katie's Bakery Counter, chocolate topped pastries in Job's Perk and everything in between. And, as a special treat on Saturday, start the day with the chocolate chip pancakes special!
  • Want to Combine Fried Chicken and Chocolate? A little off our usual course, but there is a recipe for Chocolate Fried Chicken in this YouTube video!
Concerts in Minden Park Help Make Minden a Special Place
We're Proud to Be in Minden!
Seems like one of those "best," "prettiest," "most affordable," "most expensive," " most whatever" lists comes out every week. Usually it's the headline in an online news source or a social media luring you into scrolling through all 50 states and exposing you to many ads. Putting that aside, we were honored to have the Carson Valley Inn called out specifically when Minden was named Nevada's choice of  Most Beautiful Small Towns in America by House Beautiful. The picture above is courtesy of the Carson Valley Visitors Authority and it depicts a typical reason why we are still so small-town-America – a moment from a recent GE Family Concert Series in Minden Park. These free concerts are proudly sponsored by the Carson Valley Inn and there’s another one this Friday evening when the Cripple Creek Band entertains with country music and southern rock.

In Our Restaurants
  • Wednesday is Italian Day in Katie’s – three specials for $6.99 each served from 11 AM to 10 PM! The Friday and Saturday night special in Katie’s is Roasted Prime Rib & Fried Shrimp for $14.99 served from 4 PM.

What Time Is It? Depends Where you Look!
30 years ago when Daylight Saving Time ended in the fall it took just a few minutes to twist the hands back on the three or four clocks in your house (and possibly one in your car back then). Fast forward to this coming weekend and start thinking about the number of timekeeping devices that are affected: in the kitchen there's your oven, microwave, the coffee maker and possibly the refrigerator. Those probably have to be set manually. Fortunately, most of year personal electronic devices will reset automatically: the smart phone, your tablet, your laptop or desktop computers, step tracker and more. Same with the cable or satellite system and the associated time displays. Still have an answering machine on your home phone? That may or may not reset automatically. How about the timers on your sprinkler system or any devices set to turn lights on or off in your home? Better check your automobiles: most of those clocks still need to be reset automatically. After you have spent most of Sunday morning double checking all of this, we invite you to come on down to the Carson Valley Inn for breakfast, or lunch, or football viewing or, if it's later in the day, the Chandler Chicken Dinner in Katie's from 2 to 10 PM.

It’s all About Eating Here or Working Here!
  • Thursday is Men Make Dinner Day. The "rules" allude to men supposedly having to actually prepare dinner at home. However since the creators of this day are not known, nor is the date when it originated known, we say to the men, "Make reservations at CV Steak by calling 775-783-6650!"  And if you really want to stretch your luck (and probably get clobbered!) claim the reason for the dinner out is to recognize Housewife's Day on Friday!
  • Friday is Sandwich Day which is of special note to us gaming business folks. Seems John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich was a heavy gambler who often spent many long hours in London's gambling parlors. As the story continues, he purportedly created the sandwich by putting meat between two pieces of bread which helped him remain at the gambling table for long periods of time. Those “gambling hall” days are in the past, but the sandwich has flourished and we offer plenty of choices in Katie’s here at the CVI, the Jackpot Café at Sharkey’s Casino and in the Bodines Casino restaurant.
  • Monday is Job Action Day. We invite you to consider joining the CVI team by checking out our current job openings on our website or by calling our job hotline at 775-783-9711 and pushing the “3” key.
  • Monday is Nachos Day and we invite you go either macho or bodacious: Katie's Macho Nachos include refried beans, cheese sauce, sliced jalapeños, diced tomatoes, green onions and black olives. Add chicken breast or beef for a small extra charge. Bodines Bodacious Nachos is tortilla chips smothered with homemade chili, cheese, pico de gallo and sour cream.

Jets, Bunko, Pizza, Beer, Vodka, Football - Whew!

Aviation Roundup This Weekend
Looks like we’re in for perfect weather for the Aviation Roundup this Saturday and Sunday at the Minden Tahoe airport.  Plenty of free parking will be available with nine buses of varying sizes shuttling guests between the parking areas and the airshow gates. Over 80 vendors and static displays will provide plenty to see and experience. Some of the acts are low-flying and only visible if you’re up close . . . and the whole regalia of the Thunderbirds prior to takeoff is a show in itself which can only be viewed from the airport. Think about what it costs to take a family of four to Disneyland or a major league baseball game. The parking and tickets alone can set you back hundreds of dollars. The Aviation Roundup? Parking is free and a family of four with two adults and two teenagers is just $50 all in – even less if you buy your tickets online in advance (tickets also available at the gate). And our final thought to anyone who might be annoyed by the sounds of jets roaring around the Valley over the next few days: just keep in mind that those are the sounds of freedom!

Watch Out Here They Come

Bunko for Breast Cancer Sold Out, But . . .
While the Bunko for Breast Cancer event here at the CVI on October 14 is Sold Out, you can still help make a difference. Please consider donating an item or service to be auctioned during the evening by emailing bunko4breastcancer@ge.com. You can also make a monetary donation online at www.carsontahoe.com/bunko. 100% of all funds raised at this event are donated to Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center enabling them to sponsor the Casting for Recovery Program as well as purchase mastectomy camisoles, wigs and many other medical needs.

Food and Drink Stuff
Beef Tacos Basket and Fish Tacos Plate
  • Today is Vodka Day.  We definitely don’t have a shortage of choices here at the CVI bars – over 10 different vodkas last time we checked. The most popular? Depends which of our bartenders you ask. Some say Grey Goose, some say Absolute and some say it's Tito’s. In the process we did learn that both Tito’s and Smirnoff vodka are gluten-free (just thought we’d pass that along!)  And if you get a group of friends together and consume a whole bottle of vodka, don’t throw that bottle away . . . use it in a creative way to celebrate Ship in a Bottle Day, also today!
  • Today is also National Taco Day and we have a couple of different ways you can mark the occasion at the CVI.
