Join the Never-A-Dull-Moment Casino World
Sometimes we sit around pondering some of the things we see or hear at our properties and marvel at how many "just when we thought we've seen everything" experiences we have. And before you judge, most of the time it's really good, heartwarming, humorous or entertaining. We'd like to promise you working at one of our properties promises never a dull moment, but no job (at least in our area) can make that guarantee. On the other hand, there's always something new to learn, experience or contribute in the casino business so why not consider being part of this scene. If you're in the Carson City area, come to the job fair today (2 to 7 PM) and Thursday (9 AM to 2 PM) at Slot World on Hwy 50 East where we are hiring for most positions at that location and some at Bodines Casino. If you're more interested in a position in the Carson Valley, check our web site for these openings at the Carson Valley Inn and Sharkey's Casino.

Last Week of the Month Brings . . .
We wrap up our October casino promotions this week so be sure to check for the details on the following in the In the Casino section below: tonight’s drawings for a Free $500 Shopping Spree at ladies night, Cash and Free Play Giveaway Grand Prize Drawings Saturday, October Mystery Multiplier Scratch Drawings Sunday and a special 5X Points Multiplier Tuesday.  And be sure to check next Wednesday’s Blog (November 1) for news on our November casino promotions, Thanksgiving Dining at the Inn, our annual Veteran’s Day Spaghetti Feed Luncheon and more.

Pasta, Chocolate and More
CV Steak Molten Lava Kahlua Cake
dressed up like a C
hocolate Mousse for Halloween
  • Today is World Pasta Day. Works out pretty good for us because all three of the $6.99 Italian Specials in Katie's tonight happen to include pasta! Or, slip into CV Steak where our pasta entrées include Mushroom Ravioli (also available as an appetizer portion), Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, Seafood Linguine and Spaghetti Pomodoro.
  • Friday is Cranky Coworkers Day. Our approach? Just give 'em a wider berth today (quick, duck around the corner, here comes one now!) and don’t give them any of your chocolate.
  • Saturday is National Chocolate Day (saw that coming, huh!) Last we counted there are over a dozen chocolate options between the desserts in Katie's and CV Steak and the offerings in Job's Perk. Our favorite? It’s a coin toss between the Molten Lava Kahlua Cake in CV Steak or a Mini Chocolate Cream Pie from the Katie’s Bakery Counter . . . or maybe the CV Steak Chocolate Mousse . . . or a couple of the Chocolate Brownies from Katie’s and  large glass of milk . .  darn, we just gained 7 pounds thinking about it!
  • Sunday is National Oatmeal Day. Sure we serve hot oatmeal in Katie's but we think it would be hypocritical to even mention it considering all the chocolate desserts we just covered. So, we’ll bail out by reminding you that we also sell Oatmeal Cookies at the Katie’s Bakery Counter.
To the Skies One More Time
One last look at the Aviation Roundup that filled our Valley’s skies earlier this month in this “how’d they get some of those shots?!” video assembled by Visit Carson Valley – Sound On!

Football and Other Sports Info
  • Our Guys Picks:  Each of our “professional” (check their records!) sports prognosticators went 1 & 1 last week. It could have been better, it could have been worse.  This week Greg (5 & 9 overall) loves the Arizona Wildcats +3 against Washington St. and the Jets +4 versus the Falcons.  Mike (8 & 6) is also going with two dogs, Penn State at + 6½ against Ohio State and TCU at -6½ visiting Iowa State.  Alan (7 & 7) likes two favorites, the Eagles at +13 against the Niners and USC at -3 vs. Arizona State.
  • Enjoy $2 Draft Beer during all televised Pro and College football games at the CVI - and our staff will bring your bar bites order right to your seat.
  • The Progressive Pro PK'EM is at $3,320 this week. Cards are just $5 each!
  • NFL hats, tee shirts, Budweiser merchandise and other prizes are given away in drawings during Monday Night Football at the CVI. Also, three tickets are distributed each week for the Ultimate Tailgate Party package which will be given away during the Monday Night Football game on December 18.
  • Monday Night Football Grid in our poker room every week – we start with $160 each week and add in any unclaimed prizes from the previous week. Last week all four prizes went unclaimed (gotta be here on Monday to win) so we’re giving away $80 for each of the first three quarters and the final score . . . earn entries during live poker games ‘til all squares are claimed.
  • Place Your Bet: Place your bets on the World Series, Pro and College Football, NHL Hockey, NBA Basketball, Horse Racing and the NASCAR First Data 500 at the Martinsville Speedway this Sunday. Some of the futures on the board include winners for the 2017 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup, 2018 Super Bowl, 2018 NCAA Basketball and Football Championships, 2018 NBA Championship and 2018 NHL Stanley Cup.
  • Sports tickets can be cashed-in at Guest Services when the Sports Book is closed. Horse Race tickets can be cashed only when the Race and Sports Book is open. Winning sports bets placed at any of our three casinos (CVI, Bodines and Sharkey’s) can be cashed at any of the three locations.
Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge:
Patrick Major tonight, Buddy Emmer Band Thursday - Saturday, NFL Football on Sunday and Monday and Chris Twomey Tuesday and Wednesday. Patrick Major has his own mix of original guitar and vocals combined with rock classics from the last four decades.  The Buddy Emmer Band is a longtime favorite on the West Coast and Northern Nevada circuit.  The group’s versatile style includes everything from blues to jazz, rock to reggae and top 40. Whatever your taste in tunes they will be sure to please! Chris Twomey’s roots are deep into a genre of folk-rock.  From 2Me to The Diva Kings to Dad's LPs to whatever is next!

In the Casino
  • Penny Progressive:  The jackpot is now over $64,000 and that's a pretty good jump from last week as play continues to increase at all three of our properties; the CVI, Bodines Casino and Sharkey’s Casino. It's a natural occurrence as progressive jackpots increase: the higher the jackpot climbs, the more attention and play it attracts and the faster it grows. While the odds of winning the jackpot are the same on every "pull," the likelihood of someone hitting it definitely goes up as the number of pulls increases. That's enough theorizing – the bottom line is you can't win this jackpot if you're not playing!
  • Ladies’ Night Tonight:  Join us 5:30 to 8:30 PM tonight with a free Chocolate Shoppe Treat for the first 150 ladies and Chocolate  Shoppe Gift Baskets as hot seat prizes. Also tonight: games, drink specials, FREE Bingo and your last chance to earn entries for tonight’s 8 PM drawings for a Free $500 Shopping Spree!
  • VIP Gifts Thursday: free VIP Gift Giveaways at 2, 4, 6 and 8 PM!
  • Friday Giveaway Drawings: Join us at 5, 7 & 9 PM for up to $10,000 in Cash and Free Play!
  • 5X Points Saturday: That’s five times the benefits for your play all day this Saturday.
  • Grand Prize Drawings Saturday:  Bonus drawings for Cash and Free Play this Saturday at 6 & 8 PM in the finale of our October casino promotion.
  • Scratcher Drawings Sunday: the drawings are at 6 and 8 PM and this one’s for the many local Inn Club members who received an October mailer with Mystery Multiplier Scratchers. Be sure to use your Inn Club card whenever you play in the casino and you might just be on the list for future monthly mailers.
  • 5X Points for Halloween: Another chance to scare up five times the benefits for your play all day on Tuesday – and keep an eye out ‘cause there’s no telling how some of our fellow employees might be cleverly costumed on Halloween!
  • Here’s a Handy Page with all our Current Casino Promotions!
In Our Restaurants
  • Wednesday is Italian Day in Katie’s – three specials for $6.99 each served from 11 AM to 10 PM!
  • Our Friday special in CV Steak is Grilled Elk Medallions; two 3 oz. elk tenderloin medallions grilled and finished with a brandy demi and sundried cherries for $32. Saturday night’s special is Garlic Studded Prime Rib for $26 and Sunday's special is one pound of King Crab Legs for $32. These specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato – au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked – tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread.
  • Click the restaurant name for more info, specials and links to menus for Katie’sCV Steak and Jobs Perk at the CVI . . . or our nearby sister property restaurants, the Jackpot Café at Sharkey's Casino and the Bodines Restaurant at Bodines Casino.

The Spinners Saturday in TJ's Corral and Much More

The Spinners Concert is this Saturday! Their Top-5 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1972 and 1980 included "I'll Be Around", "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love?", "Then Came You", "Games People Play", "The Rubberband Man", and two medleys; "Working My Way Back to You" / "Forgive Me, Girl" and "Cupid" / "I've Loved for a Long Time."  The Spinners have six Grammy nominations and have performed twice during the awards ceremony. Inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999, they have also been awarded the Rhythm and Blues Foundation Award for their contribution to the genre. The group has performed for presidents, received a star on the Hollywood “Walk of Fame,” and has appeared in numerous network and cable television specials paying tribute to the music of the 70’s. Today, this legendary R & B group maintains an active touring schedule, performing for fans of all ages and you can catch them live in TJ’s Corral this Saturday, July 8!

Our Remaining 2017 Concerts in TJ’s:

Shoot or Shot? We’ve Got Them Both!
  • Shoot: just a month to go until our Summer Fun Clay Shoot coming up August 6 – 8. This one is laid-back and there’s a lot of good-natured ribbing that goes on during the two days of sporting clays shooting with 150 targets each day at the private Carson Valley Clays Club and the Walker River Resort course. The gathering also includes an opening night reception and a family-style dinner and storytelling at the J T Basque Bar & Dining Room. Check here for the pricing and other details and join us!
  • Shot: We’re talking golf shots with our 2017 Mixed Scramble the second weekend in September. This one is also laid-back and fun for golfers of all levels. The Friday evening reception and blind draw starts quietly and builds to a roar as the teams are drawn, teammates meet each other and friendly bets are placed for the scramble on Saturday at the Genoa Lakes Ranch Course. An awards dinner wraps it up on Saturday night. Hope you can make it!

 Celebrating Food at the CVI:
Fried Chicken Day Thursday
  • Thursday is Fried Chicken Day. Our suggestion: skip the fried chicken on Thursday and wait for Sunday when we offer the Chandler’s Chicken Dinner Plate with mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw and a biscuit for just $5.99 in Katie’s. We still want you to  come to Katie’s on Thursday and you can keep it in the same “food family” by enjoying the Turkey Dinner Plate – just $6.99 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. every Thursday in Katie’s. Just have to have fried chicken on a day other than Sunday? We have a Southern Fried Chicken Breasts (yep, there's two) Plate on the menu daily!
  • Friday is Chocolate Day. Can’t participate Friday? No problem, an internet search will turn up a handful of other chocolate related days. If you like chocolate, we know you don’t really need a reason. If it’s available you’ll eat it! And we do have plenty of chocolate options here at the Carson Valley Inn. Our favorites: the full or mini Chocolate Fudge Cake sold at Katie’s bakery counter and anything chocolate related on the CV Steak Dessert Menu!
  • Saturday is SCUD Day. We’re betting that over 90% of people who read this will either not know what it is or draw the wrong conclusions. Check it out!  Oh, and this one is not food related . . . more life related. But if you follow the advice, you’ll no doubt be in a better frame of mind to enjoy one of the food items covered in this section!
  • Saturday is National Chocolate with Almonds Day. Turns out none of our vast array of bakery products or desserts use the combination of chocolate and almonds. So, since we brought it up, we’re giving the staff in Job’s Perk a handful of chocolate bars with almonds and they are a gift from us for the first half-dozen folks who come in asking for one on Saturday. We hope you’ll buy something else while you’re in there, but it is certainly not required.
  • Tuesday is Blueberry Muffin Day. We make them fresh in our bakery and you can buy them either in Job’s Perk or Katie’s.

The Blues Monsters in the Cabaret Lounge
Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge:
Hans Eberbach tonight, The Blues Monsters Thursday thru Saturday, Paul Coverelli Sunday and Monday and Patrick Major Tuesday and Wednesday. The Blues Monsters is a popular red-hot rockin' blues band from the North Lake Tahoe and Reno area. The quartet performs a powerfully unique combination of R&B, funk, jazz, and Chicago-style blues. Whether paying respects to the masters of traditional blues, or rockin' out other tunes, The Blues Monsters get the whole house up and dancing! Paul Coverelli  displays exceptional versatility on hits from artists like The Beatles, Merle Haggard and Jimmy Buffet plus the sounds of jazz, blues and Latin. Paul tells us keyboardist Nancy Barker may be joining him for one or both of his nights. Patrick Major entertains with his own mix of original guitar and vocals combined with rock classics from the last four decades.

  • 5X Points Friday: That’s 5 times the benefits for your play! More good news . . . this one also continues on Fridays through July.
  • Friday Independence Cash Giveaways: Drawings at 6, 8 & 10 PM for Cash & Free Play, up to $500!

Futures on the board include winners for the World Series and 2018 Super Bowl.  Not that we're getting anxious (OK, we are) or jittery, but the first NFL Game is only 9 weeks away . . . Chiefs vs. Patriots on Thursday, September 7!

This Week at the Inn:
  • Please Give Blood Today: United Blood Services is holding their annual All-American Blood Drive from noon to 6 p.m. in our parking lot. Look for the big Bloodmobile and stop by to donate!
  • See Willie Thursday: Roger Hegyi as “True Willie” pays tribute to the life and music of one
    Roger Hegyi as “True Willie
of the world’s most recognizable and distinctive musicians. Not just a Willie Nelson “impersonator,” Roger has found a way to reach into the musical soul of Willie Nelson and share it with audiences wherever he performs. Free shows are at 7 and 9 p.m. in our Cabaret Lounge
  • Tanya Tucker Concert Friday: How many of Tanya Tucker's ten #1 hits can you name? And with 41 top-10 hits in her career, how many do you think she'll perform at her concert in TJs Corral Friday night? The best way to find out is by snapping up some of the few remaining tickets and joining us this Friday with the doors opening at 7:15 p.m. and the show starting at 8 p.m.  It's just $39 to see this incredible country legend who blazed the trail for the many female country stars who followed.
  • New July Poker Promos Start Saturday: A $2-$6 Pineapple game spreads Saturday starting at 12:30 p.m., there's a reduced rake and free bar basket for those participating in the Saturday no-limit Texas hold 'em game starting at 6 p.m., and a "high hand spins the wheel" promo runs for a few hours on Saturday afternoons.
  • Ladies Only Poker Tournament Sunday: The action starts at 4 p.m. and this one is a party as much as a tournament!
  • Multiply Your Points Monday: it's 5X Points on video reels and 3X Points on video poker all day every Monday in July. There's no fine print on this one – earn as many points as you can at these incredible multipliers.
  • Eat Chocolate on Tuesday: Here's the deal – Tuesday is Chocolate Day. We offer a multitude of ways to celebrate so take your pick or try them all . . . a chocolate-topped Long John in Job's Perk, a Chocolate Fudge Cake (full or mini) at the Katie's bakery counter,  the Stuffed Fudge Brownie in Katie's or the CV Steak Chocolate Mousse!

Jessica as Vanna White
The Penny Progressive Jackpot in our casino is now over $60,000. You know what that means: Play will increase even more, the Jackpot will go up faster, and pretty darn soon someone will win enough money to buy a brand-new vehicle - or a couple of brand new vehicles depending on your tastes!  As a reminder, this Jackpot is not part of one of those statewide progressive jackpots that could "hit" anywhere. It will be paid right here at the Carson Valley Inn.  While we are on the subject, the Dollar Progressive at the CV Steak Bar is now over $5,300. Not a bad bet when you can find a seat . . . the word must already be out!

Best of Nevada – Again! We did it again – the Carson Valley Inn was voted Best Casino by the readers of Nevada Magazine in the "Everywhere Else" category. Sounds like a catchall category at first, so we did a little research. Seems there are 325 casinos in the state of Nevada with unrestricted gaming licenses. About half are in the greater Las Vegas area and about 40 are in the greater Reno/Sparks area - each of these two areas had their own winner. That left over 100 other casinos throughout the state and that's the category in which we were named "Best of Nevada" for the second-year in a row.  We consider this an honor and will continue to strive to provide the services, facilities and ambiance that will keep us pointed us in the direction of a three peat!

Concert Updates:
  • 38 Special Concert on Thursday, July 23: This special evening of classic southern rock is just three weeks away . . . don't miss out!
  • Moe Bandy & TG Sheppard Concert Tickets Available Today!  Moe Bandy and TG Sheppard were here within a few months of each other in late 2013 and early 2014 and both of these performers sold out their Valley Ballroom concerts. So, on August 8 we're bringing them together in the much larger TJ's Corral for a special night featuring both artists! Tickets go on sale today at 11 a.m. - just $29!

There are lots of Independence Day activities going on in and around the Carson Valley this weekend.  Can't list them all without getting the blog cops to go on "tilt," but here are two for Saturday, July 4:
  • In the morning, we invite our Sharkey's neighbors to stop by Heritage Park (right across Hwy 395 from Sharkey's) for the Town of Gardnerville's Celebration which includes a fun run, Lion's Club Pancake Breakfast and obstacle course of the kids.
  • Mid-morning and early afternoon, we invite our CVI neighbors to stop by Minden Park (just 2 blocks from the CVI) for the Town of Minden's Celebration which includes DJ music plus water games and free balloons and bounces houses for the kids. Food? Try free apple pie, free popsicles and, courtesy of the CVI, free hot dogs and hamburgers while they last!

As Always, Interesting, Helpful and Even Useful Tidbits and News
  • Hey, Where'd My Horse Go? Over two dozen Horseless Carriage Club vehicles will continue to tie to the hitchin' post in our parking lot through tomorrow - a great way to experience the history of these pioneer gas, steam and electric motor vehicles built or manufactured prior to January 1, 1916.
  • Pink Snow? Seriously? We didn't know about this one until we stumbled across it on the Internet a week or so ago. It turns out that there's such a thing called Watermelon Snow, and, if you believe everything you read on the Internet, it apparently can be found somewhere nearby on the Western slope (that's California side) of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. How does it all work? What's it mean? Just check out this short video we found on weather.com.
  • Wednesday Ladies' Night 5:30 to 8:30 PM: The first 150 ladies to sign up tonight receive the first piece in a 5-piece condiment set – we're giving away a different item each Wednesday! Also enjoy hot seat drawings for Independence Day Chocolate Shoppe Baskets, ladies-only drink specials and more.
  • Elk Tenderloin Friday, King Crab Sunday in CV Steak:  Our Friday Game Special this week is Grilled Elk Medallions with a Brandy Cherry Demi served with fresh vegetable, choice of potato (au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked) and tableside tossed salad all for $30. Sundays in CV Steak we feature one pound of King Crab Legs for $32 and that also includes tableside-tossed salad, vegetable and your choice of potato.
  • Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge: Greg Austin is here tonight, True Willie is a tribute to the life and music of Willie Nelson Thursday, The Blues Monsters entertain Friday and Saturday and George Pickard appears Sunday through Wednesday nights.  You can also watch and bet Major League Baseball games, NASCAR and horseracing!
