Easton Corbin is Kickoff Concert, Job Fair Thursday, Blood Drive Saturday, More

Easton Corbin Leads Off
2019 Concerts in TJ’s Corral
Easton Corbin is “first-up” in our 2019 TJ’s Corral Concert Schedule. His is the second-fasted selling concert of the four we have announced so far. Here are a few tips, answers and observations after our announcement a week ago:
  • Yes, we will have more than four concerts and we'll announce them as soon as they are finalized. Be sure to check our new blog posting every Wednesday at 7 AM and also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Dwight Yoakam concert tickets are selling faster than we expected and it looks like this concert will sell out well in advance. If you are planning to go to this concert, please act soon!
  • When you go to this page on our website you are on the correct page to buy tickets for any of our upcoming events including Sister's Easter Catechism on April 20, Easton Corbin on May 24, Uncle Kracker on June 29, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts on July 4 and Dwight Yoakam on July 26. Just scroll down and you’ll find what you need.
  • When you get to our Terms and Conditions page, please read through the appropriate section as this answers the "what can I bring?" questions many have asked. Then click ACCEPT at the bottom and you’ll be in the ticket purchasing system.
Sister with "Sacramental Wine"
During Her 2016 Visit as “Father Matt” Looks On
Which “Sister?”
We’ve had two highly successful “Sister’s Catechism” shows in our Valley Ballroom: Late Night Catechism in 2014 and Sister’s Christmas Catechism in 2016.  A few folks have asked which sister will be here to teach us Sister's Easter Catechism on Saturday evening, April 20. Word around the convent is it’s going to be the same Sister who so effectively corralled the congregation, intimidated with her wooden ruler and elicited spontaneous laughter at the 2016 show. Don’t miss her return – more information here.

Job Fair This Thursday
The image above says it all – so join us Thursday as we spring into our busy season and join the never-a-dull-moment in the worlds of the Carson Valley Inn, Bodines Casino, SlotWorld Casino and Sharkey’s Casino. And there could be even more by Thursday afternoon!

Blood Drive Saturday
Vitalant – formerly known as United Blood Services – will have their Bloodmobile Bus at the CVI this Saturday, March 16 collecting blood donations from 10 AM to 4:00 PM. You can make an appointment in advance on this web page, by calling 800-696-4484 or go to this FaceBook Event and click Find Tickets (no – you are not actually buying anything!). The Bloodmobile will be in our west parking lot, along Hwy 395 near our electronic sign. Definitely get this out of the way before you start your St. Patrick’s Day Imbibing!

St. Patrick's Day, Basketball, Easter Dining, Poker Progressives, More

St. Patrick‘s Day at the Inn
Saturday is St. Patrick’s Day and we’ll be celebrating in Katie’s and at the casino bars. Regulars in Katie’s already know we are so pro-corned beef that we offer Corned Beef Hash every morning . . . and both Corned Beef Sandwiches and Corned Beef and Cabbage (with carrots, potato and creamy horseradish sauce) every day. And rest assured we’ll have extra supply on hand Saturday!! At the cabaret bar, CV Steak bar and in the cabaret lounge, where many will be watching the plethora of Saturday NCAA Tournament basketball games, we’re adding a St. Patrick’s Day Slider Basket for the day featuring 2 Corned Beef and Cabbage Sliders served with mustard and fries for $6.99. Our beer won’t be green on Saturday – but you’ll keep more of the green in your pocket since a large draft is only $2 at the casino bars on St. Patrick’s Day.

Wolverines, Wolves, Wildcats . . .
CVI's Greg Enholm (left) with then
Arizona Coach Lute Olsen circa 1984.
The Wildcats were a Final Four team
losing to Oklahoma in the semi-finals.

  • As of this evening the dream will still be alive for 64 College Basketball teams as the final two teams are settled for the NCAA Tournament action starting tomorrow. So many in our CVI family have “dogs in the hunt” including Mike in the Sportsbook (Michigan Wolverines), Greg in Sales (New Mexico State Alum, but grew up an Arizona Wildcat fan – see picture), numerous Nevada Wolf Pack alums including Steve (GM), Matt (Hotel), Mavis (Accounting)  and more.
  • As a reminder, you can place and collect your sports bets any time the Sports Book is open at the Carson Valley Inn or Bodines Casino. At Sharkey’s Casino and Slot World Casino, all sports betting is done at Guest Services. A winning sports bet placed at any of our four casinos can be cashed at any of our four casinos.  Horse Race bets can only be placed or cashed when the Race and Sports Book is open at the CVI or Bodines Casino.
  • Really focused on basketball? Then you would have already known that today is Dribble to Work Day.  Only had one person do so here at the CVI – how about where you work?

Both specials are $29 and, as with all CV Steak entree's, the Easter Specials include CV Steak signature table side tossed salad, sourdough baguette, creamery butter, choice of giant baked potato, garlic mashed potatoes, twice baked potato or au gratin potatoes and fresh vegetable. Chips, Chicken, Ravioli and Shut-Eye!
  • Today is Potato Chip Day.  Feel you have to do something to mark the occasion? We sell bags of potato chips in Job’s Perk. We heard they “pair” great with a banana smoothie!
  • Friday is World Sleep Day held annually on the Friday before Spring Vernal Equinox. Great day to catch up on the sleep you’re still craving from the switch to Daylight Saving Time. Friday is also No Selfies Day which works perfectly since it's near impossible to take a selfie while you are asleep.
  • Sunday is Awkward Moments Day. Like waking up from the nap you took on World Sleep Day and finding out you did take a selfie while you were sleeping!
  • Monday is Poultry Day. We have so many possibilities in our restaurants but our blog editor limited us to three and she said they could not be on the regular menus. Well, that ruled out us even mentioning one of our favorites, the Chicken Marsala in CV Steak. So, we’re going with these three Katie’s Specials: The $6.99 Turkey Dinner Plate from 11 AM to 10 PM on Thursdays, the $5.99 Chandler’s Chicken Dinner Special on Sundays from 2 to 10 PM and the $5.99 Chicken Schnitzel Plate Mondays from 11 AM to 10 PM. Quickly before the editor gets back: another option is this Friday's Grilled Duck Breast special in CV Steak!
  • Tuesday is Ravioli Day. A perfect excuse to enjoy the Mushroom Ravioli in CV Steak – available in either an appetizer or entrĂ©e portion!
At the CVI This Weekend
  • The United Blood Services St.  Patrick’s Day Blood Drive is Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the large Bloodmobiles parked in our west lot along Hwy 395 near the big electronic reader board. Two More TJ's Corral Concerts Announced, March Madness, More

Michael McDonald
added to TJ's Corral Concert Schedule
Two More Summer TJ’s Concerts Announced:  Michael McDonald has joined our TJ’s Corral concert lineup for this summer - he’ll be here on Friday, August 18. From ‘70s-era Doobie Brothers classics such as “What A Fool Believes” and solo hits like “I Keep Forgettin’” through two highly-acclaimed Motown albums, genre-busting guest spots and innovative concept shows, the five-time Grammy Award winning McDonald is both timeless and ever-evolving. Also just inked as we were putting this blog edition to bed:  Aaron Watson and Clare Dunn will both appear on Friday, June 16.  Aaron Watson’s album “Vaquero” is in the Top Ten on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Clare Dunn’s hits include "Move On" and "Tuxedo."  We’re getting close on a couple more – so watch our new blog every Wednesday at 7 AM. WAIT . . . one more just leaked in right before this "published." Looks like Lee Brice may be coming back this year . . . we'll run down the date and get it in next week's blog!

Nashville Nights Showcase March 31: Singer-songwriter Alyssa Micaela has a talent as big as Texas and a personality to light up the whole U.S.A.  Her debut single, “Getaway Car,” generated more than 3 million streams during its first few weeks of release.  As a performer,  she opened several shows for Willie Nelson last fall and has also opened for other popular touring acts including Eli Young Band, CAM, Jon Pardi, Aaron Watson and Sam Hunt.  Now immersed in music for her first (full-length or EP) album Alyssa will be performing with a trio at the CVI with those songs including “I’m In a Bar” and “Cowboys Like That,” along with her goose bump-inducing, bilingual cover of Roy Orbison’s “Crying” and others. It’s happening Friday, March 31 starting at 8:30 PM in the Valley Ballroom – tickets are $15 at the Hotel Desk or call 775-783-6606.

About the Bodines Casino Name:  To bring you up to speed if you missed last week’s blog, Bodines Casino got its name from a restaurant named Bodines that was previously located on the same property.  Last week we asked if anyone knew how that restaurant named Bodines got its name?  Here’s what we know: There were three partners, Shel Lindsey, Joe Masini and Dave Cinciala. For the longest time we thought their restaurant got its name from one of their dogs by the same name. Turns out this is more folklore than truth. Apparently Shel worked on the oil rigs in his younger days and the guys on the rig started calling him “The Big Bodine.”  As the trio put together the original restaurant they were contemplating a name and when Shell told them about his old moniker the decision was made! Now, does anyone know how Sharkey’s Casino got its name – just kidding . . . everyone knows the answer to that question!

It’s About the Food!
  • Friday is National Corned Beef and Cabbage Day. We’re serving this traditional favorite in Katie’s from 11 AM to 9 PM on Friday . . . comes with Irish red-skinned potatoes, braised carrots and horseradish cream sauce for $6.99.
  • Staying with the Irish Theme: Our Friday special in CV Steak is an Irish Shepard's Pie made with Antelope for $25.00.
  • Sunday is National Poultry Day.  You can catch the full poultry spectrum for less than $20.00 in Katie’s. Start with an early breakfast of Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs served with biscuit gravy – it's a generous plateful at $5.99. At lunch time, come back for the Big Bird - sliced roast turkey, bacon, tomato and Jack cheese on grilled sourdough plus fries for $7.99. Then go out for a long walk and come back for the Chandler Chicken Dinner - southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cole slaw for $5.99.

Basketball Madness: 64 teams in the Men’s NCAA Tournament, 32 teams in the NIT Tournament, 16 in the CBI Tournament and yet another 26 in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. That’s over 130 teams to bet – some more than once after they win!
  • Still not sure on your NCAA Bracket?  Here’s a link to Microsoft Bing’s March Madness bracket predictions, powered by “intelligent machine-learning technology.” It’s a pretty slick tool that lets you make your picks and is updated based on new information. We still like picking based on team mascot, team colors and famous alumni!
  • We’ll have a special NCAA Parlay Card out today for many of the First Round games this Thursday and Friday.
  • This week you can also bet the NBA, Pre-Season MLB, NHL and the NASCAR Camping World 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. Futures on the board include winners for NCAA Basketball Championship, Masters, NBA Championship, NHL Stanley Cup and World Series.
  • Place your sports bets at the CVI, Sharkey’s Casino or Bodines Casino and collect your winnings at whichever location is closest at the conclusion of the game! Race Book wagers can be made at CVI and Bodines.

College Basketball, Lacy J. Dalton, St. Patrick's Day Fun, Easter Dining, More

Lacy Bringing Three More Artists
Join us in the Valley Ballroom on Friday, April 8 when Lacy J. Dalton, one of the most distinctive female country singers of the '80s, invites everyone to help support Nevada's wild horses at a special charity event sponsored by her Let'em Run Foundation. Dale Poune, comedian Huck Finn and the singing group All Hat and No Cattle will be joining Lacy for a full evening of entertainment. Soak it all in for $20 . . .  get your tickets at the CVI hotel desk or call 775-783-6606. And be sure to check this page on our website for the 2016 concert lineup so far in TJ’s Corral.

College Basketball News and Links
  • The American Gaming Association is estimating Americans will wager $9.2 billion on March Madness this year and complete more than 70 million brackets which will likely surpass the number of ballots voters cast for any single presidential candidate in the November election. Read the entire article here.
  • While most people in the country – and certainly most who come to our sports book – are focused on the NCAA Tournament and the associated bracketology, there are many local fans supporting the Nevada Wolfpack as they start play tonight in the College Basketball Invitational. We’re taking action on all these games plus the games in the NIT, the collegeinsider.com tournament and the Vegas 16 tournament.
  • Until the start of the first game Thursday, you can also place bets on who will win the NCAA Tournament. Odds range from 5 to 1 all the way to 75 to 1.
  • We’ll have a parlay card out today for the first weekend of the NCAA tournament. As usual, pick between 3 and 10 games. Trivia: We will have to exclude 4 of the “Round of 64” games on this card. Do you know which games and why?
  • Also on the board (you may have to ask at the Sports Book as the “Board” has been overrun by basketball) are Major League Baseball Exhibition Games, Horseracing, NBA Basketball, NHL Hockey, Sunday’s Auto Club 400 NASCAR Race in Fontana, CA, select MMA/UFC Fights this weekend and the Masters coming up on April 7 – 10.

  • Cash and Freeplay giveaway drawings at noon, 2, 4 and 6 p.m. with five winners each time.
