Concerts Update

Tickets go on sale at 8 AM today for the Aaron Watson featuring special guest Clare Dunn Concert on Friday, June 16. As of this morning, there are a few standing room tickets still available for the Wynonna and the Big Noise Tour concert this Saturday, April 29. Both the Lee Brice Concert  on May 20 and the Kenny Loggins Concert on Friday, June 9 are well over half-sold with Lee Brice closing in on the “I’d better act soon” stage.  Our 2017 Concert Lineup includes Stew Stewart’s final party, affectionately called Turtle’s Last Dance, on Friday, May 12 with a special performance by the Davisson Brothers.

With all the concert news recently we’ve gotten a little behind on some of the food news at the CVI. So, in no particular order:

• New on the Katie’s Menu: Among the new platters recently added to the Katie’s menu are a

  

  Chicken Teriyaki Bowl - New in Katie's

  Beef or Chicken Teriyaki Bowl with vegetables and rice, a big Beef Stew Bowl, Fish Tacos and a traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage plate. • New on the CV Steak Menu: Mushroom Raviolis with Porcini mushrooms and cream sauce have been added both in an appetizer portion and as an entrée. CV Steak’s Chicken Marsala is now served Italian style on pasta with Marsala mushrooms and butter sauce. • Just How Good Is CV Steak? Everybody has their own opinion, but for this Best Things Nevada writer, CV Steak is #5 on the Ten Best Steakhouses in Nevada list.
• Our Friday special in CV Steak is Grilled Duck Breast, a Maple Leaf Farms duck breast marinated with fresh herbs, grilled with natural duck jus and served with wild mushroom risotto and vegetable for $28.00.  Sunday's special is one pound of King Crab Legs for $32. These specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato – au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked – tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread.
• Thursday is National Prime Rib Day – a “Day” we think is best celebrated on a Friday or Saturday. To that end, Katie's serves a Roasted Prime Rib and Fried Shrimp Dinner every Friday and Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. – includes a baked potato, vegetable and soup or salad for $14.99. Chris Toomey tonight, Rustler’s Heat Thursday thru Saturday, Patrick Major Sunday and Monday, Jamie Rollins next Tuesday and Wednesday. Chris Toomey has been writing and playing music around the country since 2003 and his roots are deep into a genre of folk-rock. Update on 2017 Concerts

A limited number of standing room tickets are now available for the Wynonna and the Big Noise Tour concert on Saturday, April 29. Tickets are moving very briskly for both the Lee Brice Concert on Saturday, May 20 and the Kenny Loggins Concert on Friday, June 9. We hope to have tickets on sale soon for the remaining concerts which are summarized in the above video. You’ll have to excuse that guy (he worked cheap) in front of the camera. He accidentally stated April 30 as the date for the Wynonna and the Big Noise Tour concert and we all know it’s on Saturday, April 29. All the other information is correct and it gives you a summary look at our concert year with the exception of Turtle’s Last Dance which wasn’t finalized when the video was shot.

Our April 28 Nashville Nights Showcase featuring Kalie Shorr and Ellee Duke is a great warm up the for the Wynonna concert the following night out in TJ's Corral. New Slots Are Here:

Just as Spring brings bright green grass, colorful flowers and blooming trees, it also has brought a flurry of new games to the slot floors at Carson Valley Inn and Bodines Casino. Our corporate slot guru Steve Forester shared with us that we’ve added a number of new Aristocrat slots including Wild Americoins and Pure Gold. From IGT we have Icey Wilds and Ocean Magic, and from Konami the New Concerto Multi Game allows you to choose from ten of their most popular themes. We’ve also bumped up our offerings for Video Poker players at both properties with the Ultimate X Bonus Streak in which IGT took their favorite Ultimate X Poker and, figuratively of course, added steroids! Steve also told us, “We haven’t forgotten Sharkey’s Casino where more new games are scheduled for delivery in the next month . . . and all three properties have even more new games coming as we approach summer.”  Thanks for playing and enjoy the best of the best.

Who Won the Toyota? John and Michele Hatten were planning to go out for pizza last Saturday, April 15 and skip the Toyota drawing at the CVI because, "we never win." And by the way, this is the most often heard comment after somebody wins a big prize or jackpot at the CVI (and probably most casinos). Anyway, they decided to come by and what transpired was most unusual: they were both drawn to be in the final five for the showdown poker hand that would determine the winner! As the final showdown card was being dealt to each player, Michele showed a straight with three more to go. Her husband was the only one who could beat her as he showed two pair . . . but his last card failed to complete the full house and she won!  Both "shocked and excited," Michele was asked by Deanna which it would be, the Toyota Camry or $15,000? With the microphone at her lips, Michele picked the cash in an announcement to the entire casino! Our Cash and FreePlay anniversary drawings continue this Friday and next!

Justin Lee Band tonight, The Rye Brothers Thursday thru Saturday, George Pickard Sunday and Monday, Chris Toomey next Tuesday and Wednesday. We're surprised Justin Lee had the energy to return for tonight’s special favor to us after his birthday party in the Cabaret lounge last Saturday! The Rye Brothers are a “power-pop” country act, mixing contemporary country music and rock n’ roll guitar driven songs. Led by Paul Justin & Justin Foutz, who trade off on the lead vocals and guitar licks. Paul and Justin formed Rye Brothers in the of Summer of 2015 and quickly added a solid rhythm section consisting of Jacob Delott (bass, backing vocals) and Jeff Sorenson (drums, backing vocals) to round out this Southern California based “power-pop” quartet. George Pickard is an accomplished performer, believable impressionist, captivating entertainer and successful song writer. He has played the Fillmore in San Francisco with acts such as Santana, Big Brother and the Holding Company and Jefferson Airplane. “As good - no, better - than before!”  That was the title of a very recent review of the Carson Valley Inn on Trip Advisor. We get many positive reviews but this one caught our eye because it reminded us of something that we take for granted: if you haven’t been here in the last four or five years, the CVI is remarkably different and improved. We couldn’t say or write it better than the rest of the review: “After a glorious week in Joshua Tree NP, we were making our way back to Oregon and this is where we stopped for the night. We had stayed here quite a few years ago and enjoyed it and wondered if the hotel would still be nice or if it had gotten "tired" over the years. What a positive surprise when we opened the door to our room and it was immaculately clean, very attractive and appeared to be freshly decorated. The linens were very comfortable and despite being attached to a casino our night was super quiet. For the price, this hotel was an excellent value and we will definitely stay here again when through the area!!

Half Dressed Mannequins tonight (honest – that’s the name of the dou), Justin Lee Band Thursday thru Saturday and Justin McMahon Sunday thru Tuesday. The Half Dressed Mannequins is an acousti pop-duo of Denver Saunders (vocals/guitar) and Jarom Horner (6-String Bass) performing popular favorites anywhere from the 60s ‘til now.  Justin Lee is the west coast’s answer to new country music. With roots in small town Yerington, Nevada, Justin brings a new level of excitement to country as we know it. Justin opened for Mark Chesnutt in October of 2014 at We Dig Mining, a fundraiser to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nevada. A Night In The Country – Nevada’s largest country music festival – featured Justin on the main stage prior to The Band Perry in 2015. Justin McMahon fans love his unique blend of poetic musings against his driving, rhythmic style of acoustic guitar playing.

Turtle’s Last Dance – May 12

Stew “The Turtle” Stewart was with us at the Carson Valley Inn for over six years and he helped us transform our approach to entertainment. Since his passing earlier this year we have been working on a party to serve as his “last dance” . . . that’s what he wanted, so that’s what we’re doing!  The details are set and we hope you’ll join us on Friday evening, May 12 in TJ’s Corral. The Davisson Brothers will be providing entertainment, admission is free and we encourage you to read about the Turtle’s Last Dance event at this link – especially the thoughts expressed on behalf of the CVI by Joey Whitacre, our Director of Casino Operations and Marketing.

Golf Season Is Here! Monday is Golfer’sDay and whether or not it turns out to be the perfect day for playing golf, it is a timely reminder that planning is well underway for the many, many golf groups and events that center around the Carson Valley Inn this year. We put on two of our own sponsored golf events each year: the Spring Stag Golf Outing coming up on the last weekend in April and our Mixed Scramble held on the weekend after Labor Day. We are also the headquarters hotel for about 100 different groups of golfers who visit each year - from as few as 8 to as many as 100+ golfers and guests. We set up all the details (rooms, golf, receptions, dinners, etc.) and would be glad to tell you more about how it all works – just call Greg Enholm (he’s a PGA type) in our Sales department at 775-783-6615. Now, back to Golfer’s Day: If you have any appreciation for the game, you might read the information at the link. Easter Bunny Cakes Are Back! Our Easter Bunny Cakes were such big sellers last year that our bakery crew is bringing ‘em back again for the next 10 days. The cutie pictured with this article is one we found scampering through the bakery last year. The 2017 Bunny Cakes were just coming out of the oven and not to the design stage when our blog came out this morning - but we know they will be similar to last year’s hot sellers. Interested in ordering one? We suggest you stop by Katie’s Bakery Counter as soon as possible. MMA Bouts Live in TJ's Corral

MMA in TJ’s Corral: Additional information and ticket ordering is now available for the World Fighting Championship MMA bouts happening in TJ’s Corral on Saturday, July 1. Should be a pretty exciting evening and we encourage you to check out the information and contact the WFC with any specific questions.

Well, That Was Prophetic! In last week’s blog we casually wrote “As for the $85,000+, that’s our Penny Progressive Jackpot (as of last night) and while we’re not guaranteeing it will be won this week, we can guarantee that when it does hit it can only be won on one of the Triple Red Hot 7's slots at CVI, Sharkey’s or Bodines.” Well, it “hit” on Thursday, March 30 when a lucky local pocketed $86,619 here at the CVI.  The winner asked that we not use their name and we always respect such requests. Now, on to our next prediction: Someone will win a new Toyota Camry or $15,000 in cash on Saturday, April 15 and it will happen here at the CVI. Will it be you?

How's our beer selection you ask? Well, two of us sat down at the CV Steak Bar determined - between the two of us - to drink one of each of our offerings. We had ten different beers each and still had a couple to go when we gave up . . . we figure that should be enough choices for just about any beer drinker!

Hans Eberbach tonight and Thursday, John Dawson Band Friday and Saturday, Cliff and Dave Sunday and Monday and Denver Saunders Tuesday and Wednesday. The John Dawson Band is a Reno based group of five fun-lovin' guys who just like to play music and entertain with a variety of modern country and classic rock. According to John, “The Washoe County Parole board took matters into their own hands on a wistful spring evening in 1999, and placed these 5 repeat offenders in a working band, demanding we concentrate on Country Music.” The quintet includes Mitch (Lead Guitar), Brian (keys), J.B.  (Bass), Jhan (drums) and John Dawson (vocals and guitar). When Cliff and Dave make their CVI debut, you’ll enjoy a Powerhouse singer/gospel drummer, Cliff Porter, and southern-fried singer/guitarist, Dave Berry, often seen fronting the band Jelly Bread as they provide an evening of  sultry R&B, funk and swinging rock ’n’ roll.
