It’s
just two weeks until the loudest event of the year in our Valley Ballroom – The
annual Bunko for Breast Cancer from 5 to 10
PM on Saturday, October 19! Why so loud?
Think of how boisterous it can get with 12 people playing bunco . . . now imagine the frivolity
and noise when you have 20 times that many whooping it up in the same room! Happens
every year in October and ALL the proceeds benefit the Carson Tahoe Cancer
Resource Center. Among their many ways of helping: support to local breast cancer patients in the
form of financial assistance for treatment, medication, and other related
costs; transportation to and from treatment; and many other programs. Play is open to
individuals or teams of 12, and registration must be made online. The 2019 theme is World
Cultures-International so dress the part and get in on the early bird pricing good
through this Friday, October 4. As for the earplugs – there will be some on
every table if the noise is too much for you! And if you are part of an
association that conducts fundraisers, call Carrie in our Sales Department at
775-783-6673 to find out about holding your event in our Valley Ballroom!
Our Scary Neighbors!
Yep – we have scary neighbors . . . but we love
‘em! We’re talking about some of the very creative characters at the Douglas
County Sheriff’s Office – located just steps from our front casino entrance.
First some background: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue
Unit is one of the best in the state! This all-volunteer unit is ready and
equipped to respond at a moment’s notice to everything from rapid-water rescues
to complex mountain recoveries to wide-spread searches in rough terrain. One of
their major fundraisers is going on every Friday and Saturday through October -
Fright Night at the Fairgrounds! This
annual attraction is produced each year by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies
and civilian volunteers who donate their time planning, building, decorating
and operating the event. Big scares,
screams and fun and excitement for all ages and all for a good cause. So, while
we do have some scary neighbors, we hope you’ll join us in helping them scare
up some funds for the all-volunteer Search and Rescue Unit! For information, click here and be
sure to catch the video trailer above.
Build your own scarecrow, coffin races,
pumpkin raffle, crafts and much more will be taking place at Heritage Park this
Saturday just a half block from our sister property Sharkey’s Casino. It’s
all part of the Main Street Gardnerville Main Street Fall Fest and
we hope you’ll enjoy the fun . . . plus a quick bite to eat at Sharkey’s Jackpot Café before or after!
From the Sports
& Race Book
- Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
- Craziest weekend so far: NFL favorites only covered in 5 of the 15 games (2 teams had byes). Eight of the dogs won games outright, with five of those winning while on the road. One guaranteed road winner this week, as the NFL returns to London with the Bears vs Raiders.
- Michigan bounced back last week with a win over Rutgers. Generally, all Big 10 schools get a bounce with Rutgers, as the Scarlet Knights only average one win a year in Big 10 play. In a bit of a twist, Rutgers fired their coach after the game, "we lost to Harbaugh?"
- The long awaited baseball playoffs started this week. Four teams reached 100 wins this year, so one could make a strong case for any of them or maybe the A's?
- Hockey puck drops today. The two teams with the most local interest get things started by playing each other tonight: the San Jose Sharks are in Vegas to take on the Golden Knights. Go team - whichever is yours!
- Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot is at $3,047 this week. Pick all 15 NFL winners on our weekly $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. Each week it is not “hit,” the jackpot climbs based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s Casino, Bodines Casino and SlotWorld Casino.
- Football Extras:
- $2
Coors Light Draft at the Casino Bar or in the Cabaret Lounge during all televised NFL and College
Games.
- A couple of Free NFL Hats given away for each of the teams playing every Monday Night Football Game.
- Bar Snacks Delivered to Your Seat while you watch or play. Get the full menu and pricing at this link!
- Poker Room Squares Pool: Earn squares as you play in live poker games during the week.
Each week we kick in $160 and the payout is on the Monday Night Football Game –
$40 to the winners of the first three quarters and the final score. Any
unclaimed quarters roll to the next week and for the October 7 Browns/Niners
game it’s $97 a quarter!!
- Seasonal Action on the board includes NFL and NCAA
Football, Major League Baseball Playoffs, NHL Hockey, Canadian Football, WNBA Basketball Championships,
Horse Racing and this Sunday’s NASCAR Monster Energy Series Drydene 400 at Dover.
- Futures Bets on the board include: 2019 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup, 2019 World Series, 2020 NCAA Football Championship, 2020 Super Bowl, 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship and 2020 Stanley Cup.
- Today
is National Walk to School Day and the Nevada Department of
Transportation (NDOT) has asked that “drivers
should watch for children walking and bicycling to school and be mindful of
school zone speed reductions, as well as varying school start times.” Turns out
NDOT has a page on their website specifically devoted to walking and bicycling to school and also
has a Walking and Bicycling
Summit coming up in early November!
- Today is Name Your Car Day. We
think that’s a bit over the top. But, we are OK with giving some thought
to what you’ll name your motorcycle if you are the lucky winner of a Harley here
at the CVI on October 30. Someone will win it – might as well be ready with a
name!
- Friday is Vodka Day There are lots of Vodkas
these days and we serve a variety at the CV Steak Bar. Our suggestion for Vodka
Day (or any day) is the Bently Heritage Source One Single Estate Vodka distilled
from oats that were grown on the Bently Ranch in Minden.
- Friday is also Taco Day. Our suggestion? Enjoy the Fish Tacos in Katie’s
with grilled white fish, tangy slaw, rice and beans. It’s one of our six $7.99 Plates served daily from 11 AM to
10 PM.
