Thanksgiving Dining at the CVI, Comedy Video Invite, More from the Carson Valley Inn

Thanksgiving at the Inn
Thanksgiving Dinner at the Inn includes specials and regular menu items in CV Steak and Katie's on Thursday, November 28 . . . plus the option to order in advance a pre-cooked Thanksgiving Dinner to Go for Up to Ten.
CV Steak is open for dinner on Thanksgiving Day from 2 PM with two featured Thanksgiving dinner specials.  The Wood-Roasted Diestel Tom Turkey is served with giblet pan gravy, sage apple herbed bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with pecans and spiced maple sauce, fresh vegetables and Grand Marnier cranberry relish for $26.  The Garlic Studded Prime Rib of Beef is served with creamed apple horseradish sauce and choice of double-stuffed baked potato, au gratin potatoes or giant baked potato for $29. Both CV Steak Thanksgiving dinner specials include holiday soup or fresh garden green salad prepared tableside, fresh sourdough baguette and creamery butter.  Reservations are strongly recommended for Thanksgiving Day in CV Steak.  Please call 775-783-6650.  As with all holidays and concert dates, the CV Steak Sunset Special will not be served on Thanksgiving.
Katie's is offering a Roasted Tom Turkey special from 11 AM to 10 PM.  This traditional Thanksgiving Dinner is served with giblet gravy, herbed bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, glazed sweet potatoes, fresh vegetable, cranberry sauce, choice of fresh garden green salad or creamy pumpkin apple soup with toasted pumpkin seeds, bakery-fresh bread and pumpkin pie – all for $14.99 ($7.99 for children under 10.)
Our Thanksgiving Dinner to Go for Up to Ten starts with a 18 - 20 pound bird which is deboned and the white meat and dark meat are cooked separately. The turkey will be presented pre-sliced in an aluminum roasting pan.  Traditional side dishes include mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green beans amandine, cranberry sauce, a pumpkin pie, rolls and butter all for just $99.00 plus tax. Order at the Katie's cashier counter or call 775-783-6664. Pick up is 9 AM - Noon on Thanksgiving Day. All items will be pre-cooked and packaged in oven-ready roasting pans ready to heat per the provided instructions (allow an hour for heating at home).  This approach is perfect for those who prefer to enjoy Thanksgiving in a home environment yet want to minimize the shopping, preparation time and stress.

$52,000 – What Rob Would Do
We asked last week what you would do if you won the then $52,000 Penny progressive jackpot. Rob S. had quite an interesting plan:
First I’d pull out $4,000 towards taxes - I know that’s not enough, but it’s a start. Next I’d set up a four-year plan to teach my four grandchildren about money. Two of them are my son’s, two are my daughter’s and they range in age from 10 to 14 years old. Of course this will all be done in conjunction with their parents.  I’d go to each of them and tell them that they’ll receive $250 a month from me over the next four years. That would account for the other $48,000. Over the first few months I would introduce a variety of options to them including how much will this will mean to them over a period of four years; how to buy the phones, computers, designer clothes, and other “things” they want by saving over a few months; how they can take money in advance by lessening the total they’d receive; and other options about their money. All this would ease the financial burden of raising teens on my son, daughter and their spouses. Should also teach the grandkids some valuable lessons. I haven’t thought it all the way through, but I know it would be a good learning experience for all of us.
Our Penny Progressive Jackpot is now over $55,000  . . . what would you do if you win it? Send us and email by clicking here and we’ll consider using you “story” in next week’s blog.

From the Sports & Race Book
  • Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
    • NFL favorites went 5-8 against the spread last week.  7 of the dogs won in yet another wild week. Could the most “consistent” NFL team be the Bengals?
    • Speaking of Bengals, the "Dorothy parlay" has not fared well this year: Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my.
    • What a difference a week makes: The Ravens were 20:1 to win the Super Bowl. First they beat the Seahawks and then they beat the Patriots and promptly went to 6:1. Sometimes it pays to strike when you have the hunch and not wait until after your team gets hot.
    • In college football, some folks are still hoping for those Ducks.  Seems like two SEC teams are nearly a lock, along with the Big10 champ.  So, a Clemson loss looks like the best chance.
    • Monday Night’s Chiefs/Chargers game is in Mexico City – normal 5:15 PM start.
  • Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot is at $3,829 this week. Pick all 15 NFL winners on our weekly $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. Each week it is not “hit,” the jackpot climbs based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s, Bodines and SlotWorld.
  • Martin Truex Jr., Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch will compete for the NASCAR Monster Energy Series title this Sunday  in the Ford EcoBoost 400 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway
  • Seasonal Wagers on board this week include NFL and NCAA Football, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey, Canadian Football Division Finals, Horse Racing and this Sunday’s NASCAR season finale.
  • Futures Bets on the board include: 2020 NCAA Football Championship, 2020 Super Bowl, 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship and 2020 Stanley Cup.
  • Football Extras:
    • $2 Coors Light draft at the Casino Bar or in the Cabaret Lounge during all televised NFL and College Games.
    • A couple of Free NFL Hats given away for each of the teams playing every Monday Night Football Game.
    • Bar Snacks Delivered to Your Seat while you watch or play. Get the full menu and pricing at this link!
    • Three Yeti 45 Coolers will be given away on Monday, December 23 during the Packers/Vikings MNF Game. Ask the bartender for more information when ordering a Coors at our Casino Bar during any NFL game!
    • Poker Room Squares Pool: Earn squares as you play in live poker games during the week. Each week we kick in $160 and the payout is on the Monday Night Football Game – $40 to the winners of the first three quarters and the final score. Any unclaimed quarters roll to the next week and for the November 18 Chiefs/Chargers game it’s at $81 a quarter!!

Bunko, Crafts, Curves, Glitz, Doggies & Laughs - Plus More at the Carson Valley Inn

Comedian Carlos Rodriguez
Comedian Spotlight - November 23!
Four accomplished comedians are entertaining in the CVI Valley Ballroom on Saturday, November 23 and we’ll be spotlighting each of these talented make-you-laugh entertainers prior to show date. The Stand-Up Comedy Show includes Brian Lee, Carlos Rodriguez, Kris Tinkle and Key Lewis . . . and this week, Carlos is in our spotlight! Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at or at the Carson Valley Inn hotel desk.  The show starts at 8:00 pm and is for audiences 21 or over.
Carlos Rodriguez was “thrown” into comedy. Being brought up in a large family of characters he quickly became a fast-talking entertainer which eventually led him to comedy. When he takes the stage you see the inner child come out with all the passion, excitement and energy of a new performer coupled with the grace and comfort of a seasoned pro. Carlos brings a clever, silly and approachable voice to comedy. In a fun and relatable way his observational humor touches beyond daily occurrences to deep rooted memories of his childhood, views on the simplest ideas and the most off beat subject matter. A regular at comedy clubs throughout the states, he has also headlined for our military troops overseas and been on stages on 4 different continents (Europe, Asia and Australia).  He was the winner of the 2012 CSA Comedy Competition and was a finalist in both the SF Tommy T's $20,000 competition and the 2014 and 2015 SF International Comedy Competition.

How versatile is our Valley Ballroom? Check out this variety of activities coming up over the next six weekends:

Coming Soon to Our Valley Ballroom!
Whatever your event or occasion, we can probably make it work in our Valley Ballroom. Just give Carrie a call at 775-783-6673 and she’ll help you find a date and get it planned!!

Food Excuses . . . If You Really Need Some!
  • Today is Take Your Parents to Lunch Day. The supposed "purpose" is for children to bring their parents to the school cafeteria for lunch. Nice concept and we hope lots of kids do so. Our take: We're all kids at heart so assuming your school days are behind you, bring your parents  or grandparents to lunch in Katie's today - that has to count for something!
  • Thursday is also National Pasta Day. Ideal celebration - make your own pasta. A much less messy way is to enjoy one of these entrees in CV Steak: Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo, Mushroom Ravioli, Seafood Linguine or Spaghetti Pomodoro!
  • Let this anonymous quote help you shape, justify and enjoy your plans for the two "special days" that follow, "You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy chocolate, and that’s kinda the same thing."
    • Friday is Chocolate Cupcake Day. We bake 'em in house and sell them at the Katie's Bakery Counter. Caution: suggest you only eat one on Friday because on Sunday . . .
    • Sunday is Office Chocolate Day. Here’s the plan: sneak into the CVI on Sunday (or early Monday morning) and surprise your co-workers with an array of chocolate from the CVI!  We offer Chocolate Chip Cookies, Chocolate Cupcakes (oops – covered that above), Chocolate Crème Pie, Chocolate Fudge Cake, Mini German Chocolate Cake, Brownies . . . all baked in-house and available “to-go” at the Katie’s Bakery Counter. If you do come in Sunday evening (or any evening), chocolate urges are easily fulfilled with the Chocolate Lava Cake or Chocolate Mouse in CV Steak!
  • Saturday is Seafood Bisque Day. Back to CV Steak where we serve Classic Lobster Bisque!
Speaking of Food Excuses . . .
We wrote in last week’s blog that we’d have the details on our Thanksgiving Dinner to Go for Up to Ten in this week’s blog. We’ll, we didn’t make it! Not the way we like to do things but sometimes reality gets in the way of our best intentions. So, we PROMISE we’ll have it all for you next Wednesday, October 23 when our blog comes out at 7 AM!

From the Sports & Race Book
  • Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
    • The NFL favorites went 6-8 against the spread last week.  Six of the dogs won.
    • The Niners keep rolling, but the most surprising teams could be the Saints and Bills.  Most folks are aware of the Saints success since Drew Brees went out, but who knew the Bills are 4-1?!  Sure, they have that young quarterback, what's his name . . . but 4 and 1, wow!
    • The Redskins and Dolphins lived up to the hype. The Dolphins battled back by scoring two touchdowns in the 4th Qtr. The Fins could have kicked the extra point and tied the game near the end, but instead, came up just a bit short on their 2 point try.
    • The Eagles and Cowboys, on Sunday night, looks to be the game of the week.
    • With Sam Darnold's return elevating the Jets over the Cowboys last week, many have perked up their interest in this coming Monday's Jets-Patriots game. Also of interest: we have a Sam Darnold look-alike who comes into our Sports Book on occasion.
  • Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot is at $3,296 this week. Pick all 15 NFL winners on our weekly $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. Each week it is not “hit,” the jackpot climbs based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s Casino, Bodines Casino and SlotWorld Casino.
    • Poker Room Squares Pool: Earn squares as you play in live poker games during the week. Each week we kick in $160 and the payout is on the Monday Night Football Game – $40 to the winners of the first three quarters and the final score. Any unclaimed quarters roll to the next week and for the October 21 Patriots/Jets game it’s up to $69 a quarter!!
  • Seasonal Action on the board includes NFL and NCAA Football, the Major League Baseball ALCS, NHL Hockey, Canadian Football (week 19 of 21), Horse Racing and this Sunday’s (unless it rains) NASCAR Monster Energy Series Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway.
  • Futures Bets on the board include: 2019 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup, 2019 World Series, 2020 NCAA Football Championship, 2020 Super Bowl, 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship and 2020 Stanley Cup.

Live Comedy Returns, More from the Carson Valley Inn

Brian Lee, Carlos Rodriguez, Kris Tingle and Key Lewis
Live Comedy Returns Saturday, November 23!
Look for loads of laughs and patriotism at the CVI on Saturday, November 23 when Live Stand-Up Comedy returns to our Valley Ballroom! With the date falling between Veteran’s Day on November 11 and the Annual Wreaths Across America Day on December 14, it’s quite appropriate that the four comedians lined up to entertain have all either been in the military or performed extensively overseas for our military. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased starting at noon this Friday, October 11 online at www.carsonvalleyinn.com or at the Carson Valley Inn hotel desk.  The show starts at 8:00 PM and is for audiences 21 or over.

Headliner Brian Lee tackles topics like drinking, relationships, lousy day jobs, family life, and the possibility of a new religion. In addition to being a veteran of the stage, he is also a Veteran of the U.S. military with a combined 24 years between the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy.  Co-feature act Key Lewis is a high energy, improvisational, storytelling, multiple personality nutcase!  His comedic stories about his childhood, family, and unusual views of relationships, make Key simply a joy to watch. Key also served in the United States Navy. The second co-feature comedian Kris Tinkle has become a regular on the New York City standup scene since beginning his career in San Francisco. Kris has performed multiple USO tours in Iraq, Kuwait and Japan for the U.S military.  The evening’s host Carlos Rodriguez has headlined for our military troops overseas. In a fun and relatable way his observational humor touches beyond daily occurrences to deeply rooted memories of his childhood, views on the simplest ideas and the most off beat subject matter.

Let's Talk Turkey as In
Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner to Go
In answer to many of you who have asked in Katie’s, on social media, by email and by phone: Yes, we are going to offer Thanksgiving Turkey Dinners To Go for 8 – 10 people. And Yes . . . you will be able to place your order very soon. • Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
    • Favorites went 7-8 against the spread.  Six dogs won.
    • There's another game in London this week: Carolina vs. Tampa Bay has an early start this Sunday - 6:30 AM our time. Since we don’t open until 8 AM Sunday, be sure to place any action on this game before we close on Saturday.
    • Here’s another installment of "how could you bet them?" The Redskins are at Miami this week.  There will probably not be much action (or interest) in a game like that – but give us a shot if you have a hunch!
    • Popular sayings overheard in the book this week: "The Pack is Back" (no, certainly not the Wolf Pack), "The Niners have rarely been finer", "Why'd they run that play?"
    • Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot is at $3,187 this week. Pick all 15 NFL winners on our weekly $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. Each week it is not “hit,” the jackpot climbs based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s Casino, Bodines Casino and SlotWorld Casino.
  • Fun Forty Niners Fodder: The Niners have two lopsided wins against the two Ohio NFL teams (Bengals & Browns) so far this season. In these two games alone:
    • The Niners scored 72 points, opponents 20. In all 16 games in 2018 the Niners scored 342 points and their opponents scored 435.
    • The Niners rushed for 534 yards. In all 16 games in 2018 they rushed for 1902 yards.
    • The Niners had 1018 total yards. In all 16 games in 2018 they had 5769 yards.

October is Pizza Month, Friday is National Sausage Pizza Day and we’re giving away Free Pizza Knife Sets at the CVI Ladies’ Night tonight!  For the freshest and hottest pizza – sausage or whatever your topping choice – there’s nothing like a hand-tossed, made-to-order pizza from the Bodines Casino custom brick Pizza Oven! And if you occasionally make pizza at home, we’ll shorten the slicing process with a free set of two pizza knifes for the first 150 ladies signing up at Ladies’ Night, tonight at the CVI!

A Tease to Some of the Many Scrumptious CV Steak Desserts
CV Steak:
  • Wednesday’s special is Beef Tenderloin Brochette with bell pepper, onions, cherry tomato and a spicy sweet and sour sauce. Thursday is the CV Steak Mix Grill, a combination of our Filet Mignon, a Dijon and molasses marinated Pork Tenderloin Medallion and herb marinated Lamb Chop Steak.  This Friday’s special is Bacon Wrapped Elk Loin with mushroom ragout, sautéed haricot vert, creamy mascarpone polenta and caramelized Granny Smith apples. On Saturday night CV Steak features Garlic Studded Prime Rib. This Sunday’s special is “Oscar Style” Fillet of Salmon with crab and Béarnaise sauce. CV Steak specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato – au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked – tableside tossed salad and warm sourdough baguette.
  • Desserts are special every night of the week in CV Steak but we definitely recommend leaving room for dessert this Monday ‘cause it’s Dessert Day.  We’ll skip the sales pitch about all the great desserts we serve in CV Steak and cut right to this anonymous quote, “If you must choose between dinner and dessert, eat dessert first. You can always eat dinner later or pack it up and take it home.
Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge
  • Carolyn Dolan tonight: Carolyn can dive into powerful R & B, deliver a smooth jazz standard or a gentle country ballad. For the last fifteen plus years, she has been performing with her rockin’ blues and R & B band, Carolyn Dolan and Big Red.
  • Buddy Emmer Band Thursday thru Saturday: A longtime favorite on the West Coast and Northern Nevada circuit the Buddy Emmer Band’s versatile style includes everything from blues to jazz, rock to reggae and top 40. Whatever your taste in tunes they will be sure to please!
  • NFL Football Sunday and Monday Nights: We suspend live entertainment on Sunday and Monday nights during the fall so the featured night NFL games can be enjoyed on the big screen.
  • Cliff and Dave Tuesday & Wednesday: Powerhouse gospel singer/drummer Cliff Porter and southern-fried singer/guitarist Dave Berry, often seen fronting the band Jelly Bread, provide an evening of sultry R&B, funk and swinging rock ’n’ roll.
