Poker, Pizza, Eagles, Toys, Food, Free Pies and More in CVI Blog

Poker, Pizza, Points . . . Party!
The Calm Before The Saturday Party
The crew in our poker room got together last week and decided they would start smuggling pizza in on Saturdays  . . . So, our poker room now offers Free Pizza for players Saturdays from 6 PM until it's gone - what a perfect addition to the already-available free draft beer for players. Once on a roll, they started tweaking the high hand of the hour promotion and decided that all spins between 7 and 10 PM would pay Double Points on the wheel. We added it up and decided on the headline to this article: Poker, Pizza, Points . . . Party - Saturday evenings in our poker room! Check out all of our poker room special games, tournaments, promotions, hours and other information at this link.

Help Make Bill Chernock’s Cell Phone Ding!
Is He Watching You?
Or Are Your Watching Him?
Who is Bill Chernock and why do we want to make his phone ding? We’ll get back to that. The important point is that registration is now open for the 2018 Eagles and Ag Weekend Thursday, January 25 through Sunday, January 28. Most of the social/educational events associated with this annual Gathering of Eagles and Celebration of Agriculture are centered around the Carson Valley Inn. Since moving the event to late January (the weekend before Super Bowl) the eagles and other raptors seem to be more cooperative and the events are selling out in advance. So, we suggest you go onto the Carson Valley Chamber’s website and register for those events that pique your interest. And be sure to call us at 775-783-6629 to make your hotel or motor lodge reservations at special Eagles and Ag rates. Now, back to Bill Chernock: he is the Executive Director of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and it turns out that his cell phone “dings” every time an Eagles and Ag transaction is registered. Nothing makes Bill happier than to be sitting in a meeting and have the constant dinging as an “announcement” to others that the event is selling well!

Share Your Christmas Food Drive – Toys, Too!
Toys, Food, Money & More
Friday, December 8
We mentioned last week that the KTVN Share Your Christmas Community Food Drive is Friday, December 8 from 6 AM to 6 PM and we learned earlier this week that the Toys for Tots program is tying into all three Food Drive locations. So, in addition to dropping off food and money for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, you can also drop off toys for this long-time U.S. Marines sponsored program. If you absolutely cannot make it by on the day of the Food Drive (or even if you can) you can buy a $10 bag at the Gardnerville Raley’s or drop food at one of these companies gathering for delivery to the CVI location on December 8: Ginger Easley/REMAX, Parigini Orthodontics, Kaia Fit Minden/Carson City, Joe Benigno’s Tree Service and the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Oh, My – A Free Pie!
Earn A Free Pumpkin Pie
Next Wednesday
We’ll get back to the free pie in a minute. On a more timely matter, Monday, November 20 at noon is the deadline for ordering one of our Thanksgiving Turkey Dinners to Go for up to 10 people. It happens through the Katie’s supervisor who you can reach by calling 775-783-6664. As for the free pie, it’s a frozen pumpkin pie and you can pick one up on Wednesday, November 22 by earning 50 points the same day. Once that happens, you swipe your card at the casino kiosk for a pumpkin pie certificate and swing into Job’s Perk to pick it up. Thaw it for Thanksgiving or the next holiday! Speaking of Thanksgiving, enjoy our regular menu items in both CV Steak and Katie's or feast on one of our Thanksgiving Specials.

Slot World Rounds 4th Turn onto Final Stretch
While the analogy to a horse race is fitting for our owner, Mike Pegram, it truly does describe what’s going on at Slot World this week - a frantic race to the finish line! If all goes well and all approvals are obtained (there are many) we’ll be opening one day next week. Our walk-through this week was like ducking dodgeballs coming from behind a dozen bushes in every direction.  Whatever your notion of Slot World was before, throw it out the door! There are lots of new slots, creative lighting and coloring effects, a very large casino bar, three dozen TV screens, sports betting, a fourth location at which to win our multi-property Penny Progressive Jackpot and much more. A totally new and expanded Betsy’s Big Kitchen will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner plus weekend dinner specials. We could go on, but we hope everyone will come see for themselves. When? That information and the opening weeks’ promotions will be on the Slot World website and Slot World Facebook page as Slot World crosses the finish line and completes the Superfecta that started with Bodines Casino, followed by CVI, then Sharkey’s Casino!

Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Parties, Jackpot Update, More

Thanksgiving Dinner: your house or our house, we have you covered either way!
  • Your House: everyone likes the aroma of Thanksgiving dinner in their home, and certainly having leftovers is another good reason to celebrate at home. However, the preparation and cooking is so time-consuming . . . So, we have a mitigation plan that can't be beat! Our Thanksgiving Dinner to Go for up to 10 People is only $84 and we do all the messy time-consuming part! Find out more by clicking here and please get your order in soon as we do have a cut-off!
  • Our House: both Katie's and CV Steak have traditional Thanksgiving Dinner Specials. And here's the best part, our specials are reasonably priced and we still serve the regular menu in both restaurants. So, no need to get gouged while you are gorging yourself when you go out for Thanksgiving Dinner - at least not here at the Carson Valley Inn. In order to pull all this off, we do make three minor adjustments on Thanksgiving day:  in CV Steak, we open at 1:30 PM instead of 4:30 PM and the Sunset Special is not available on Thanksgiving Day. In Katie's, the usual Thursday night $6.99 Roast Turkey special is not available.  And here's an important tip: if you plan to dine in CV Steak on Thanksgiving Day, please make a reservation now at 775-783-6650.

Speaking of holidays, here are a few more thoughts: Holiday Parties are big at the Carson Valley Inn. Between our convention center, the VIP Picon Room and the private dining room in CV Steak, they'll be something going on just about every night in December. While the weekend evenings are pretty much booked, we still have room on some Sunday through Thursday nights. So, whether it's your office, club, group of friends, or family we can make it quite easy for you to celebrate here at the CVI. Plus, to encourage safety, we offer a very special hotel room rate on the night of your holiday party. Want to know more? Get in touch with Carrie at 775-783-6673.

First Half of $20,000 Guaranteed Giveaway is Saturday! Here's the breakdown - $10,000 in Cash and FreePlay will be given away this Saturday - $5,000 at the CVI and another $5,000 at Bodines. Drawings are at 5, 6, 7 and 8 p.m., all $5,000 will be given away at each location, the whole process repeats on December 19 and all the details are at this link.
Toys for Tots: The Carson Valley Inn is again a collection location for the Toys for Tots program this Christmas Season. The drop-off box is near the hotel desk and we'll call to have it picked up every day if the donations come in that fast!

Airport Shuttle is Rolling! The talk is over, the web site has been tweaked, the schedules are at our hotel desk and the buses are rolling for the Carson Valley Airporter shuttle service between the Carson Valley and Reno – airport and downtown. It's convenient, affordable and waiting for you to use – whether you are arriving at Reno International or travelling from the Valley to Reno . . . . Let's jump on board and make it successful!!

CVI Christmas Decorations Going Up Very Soon: Eileen Knox, our Chief Decorating Elf and pictured here, and her minions are busy unpacking, repairing and polishing the plethora of Christmas Decorations  that will soon be spectacularly visible in our restaurants, hallways,  casino and other areas. In the process, they have crammed decorations in just about every unused or temporarily uninhabited back-of-the house nook and cranny. Just a little peak into the incredible effort that Eileen and her helpers put into bringing the Christmas Spirit to the inside of CVI. Meanwhile, our Engineering staff has just about finished the creation of Candy Cane Lane which will light up on November 30 at the latest!

Mickey Mouse's Birthday: Speaking of Eileen (and we were - just above) she is one of the biggest Disney fans in the west . . . and Mickey Mouse is the icon of Disney . . . and Micky Mouse's Birthday was yesterday (86!) . . . so, Eileen has some special "Hidden Mickey's" going up in the Christmas decorations . . . but more about that next week!

Third Party Kudos for CV Steak: Myscha Theriault is an author and avid traveler. She is currently traveling through North America with her husband and Labrador retriever and the trio recently spent a weekend in the Carson Valley. We were fortunate that they dropped by CV Steak for dinner. Myscha did a great story about her swing through the Carson Valley. Distributed by McClatchy-Tribune News Service, it has popped up in numerous places on the Internet. Here's what Myscha had to say about their dinner in CV Steak (no, the Labrador retriever did not join them for dinner). Here's the excerpt, Thanks, Myscha!!

"If carnivorous offerings captivate your taste buds, you may want to head to CV Steak. Located in the Carson Valley Inn, it also offers a wide array of entrees for less than $30, including steak, seafood, chicken and even a few vegetarian options. Many of their starters are available at less than 10 bucks as well. Value hunters will want to check out a couple of key menu options.
First, their sampler appetizer tray lets you test drive numerous snacks at a price of just $15. It's sized for two to share, and makes a nice start to an extended dining experience. Second, they have an early dining menu that starts at 4:30 in the afternoon and runs for one hour. For $18, you can order a three course meal from a set menu that includes options such as chicken Marsala, salmon fillets, pork medallions and more. Pretty tough to beat, especially for a fine dining experience."

Earn just one point on Monday and you get a free $2 pull on the Aristocrat Millioni$er game near CV Steak (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.). The big jackpot is over $2.9 million and someone will eventually win it . . . just sayin!

  • This Week's Game-On Fridays special in CV Steak is Game Mix Grill with marinated Buffalo and Elk medallions, Venison and Alligator Sausage and finished with a Brandy Cherry Demi-Glace. Served with  tableside-tossed salad, vegetable and your choice of potato - au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked potato . . . all for $29.00! We tried to get the chef to smother it all with a generous helping of Wild Turkey "for the season," but his sense of taste and food pairing outweighed our nonsense!
