Six Straight Days of Happenings at the CVI

It’s one of those weeks with quite a bit going on so we are deviating from our usual format and present this quick recap of what you can expect over the coming few days at the CVI:
  • Tonight is Ladies’ Night and the first 150 ladies to sign up receive a Free Halloween Pop from the Chocolate Shoppe and ladies-only drink specials. There are Chocolate Shoppe Gift Baskets for hot seat prizes and a free ladies pink polo shirt when earning 50 points during Ladies’ Night.
  • Thursday – That’s Tomorrow – we hold our October Scratcher Drawings at 6 & 8 p.m. If you’re not sure what this is all about, check at Guest Services and find out how you can get in on future scratcher promotions.
  • Friday brings our October Progressive Giveaway Promotion Final Drawings. We’re giving away a guaranteed $7500 in cash between the Carson Valley Inn (drawings at 6 & 8 p.m.) and Bodines Casino (drawings at 5 & 7 p.m.). There’s plenty of money to go around – but you have to be present to win any of it!
  • Saturday is Halloween which means 5X Points all day in the casino and our annual Employee
    Costume Contest
. We have two sets of prizes, one for the day shift folks and one for swing shift. Each year we are amazed at the creativity and talent that goes into some of the employee costumes. We have no idea what this year will bring so come on by and check it out! Meanwhile, a half dozen of our employees will be staffing the CVI Cinderella Booth at the Trick-Or-Treat Halloween Safety Street at the CVIC Hall on Saturday from 3 to 6 PM.  And slipping into our public service announcement mode, remember that the Nevada Day Parade is on Saturday morning and that definitely has an effect on traffic coming thru Carson City.
  • Sunday starts at 2 AM when the time changes back an hour to Pacific Standard Time.
Sunday is also the start of our new promotion month and we happen to be offering 5X Points on Video Reels and 3X Points on Video Poker on Sundays in November. So (you had to know this was coming), you can look at it as either an extra hour of sleep, or an extra hour to multiply the value of your slot or video poker play! Starting Sunday, pumpkin pies will be for sale at the bakery counter at Katie’s along with all of our other usual cakes, pies, cookies and brownies. Our monthly Ladies Only Poker Tournament is also this Sunday with the action starting at 4 p.m.
  • Monday we invite you to join us for the Monday Night Football Drawings during the Colts vs. Panthers game – see Greg for drawing tickets
A few comments about last week’s events: it was truly incredible the number of Disney characters on hand for the Bunko for Breast Cancer event last Saturday. Quite a sight! And it sure was fascinating listening to Coach Polian talk about the Nevada victory over Hawaii last Saturday when he held his Blitz Luncheon here at the CVI on Monday. We got some real insight into the “back story” behind the lead up to Nevada's onside kick from Hawaii’s 35 yard line!

Looking ahead:
  • The Douglas Center for Hope & Healing Trance and Dance is Saturday, November 7 in the Valley Ballroom with an evening of appetizers, comedy, Hypnotism Show with Dan Kimm and dancing. All proceeds assist in providing free grief support to community members. Contact Jodi at 775-450-2826.
  • Our Free Veteran's Day Spaghetti Lunch on Wednesday, November 11th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Valley Ballroom is open to all Veterans and Active Military plus one guest.  Put it on your calendar and we’ll have more details in next week’s Blog.
  • Last week we mentioned the availability of our Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner To Go for up to 10 people for just $89. Naturally, we also have Thanksgiving Day Dinner Specials in both Katie’s and CV Steak and we are sticking to our tradition of also offering our regular menu items at regular prices on Thanksgiving Day. We are just not comfortable with forcing people into something more expensive just because it’s a holiday.
  • Last week we asked you to mark your calendars for the annual KTVN 22nd Annual Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive. We now know that KTVN's Arianna Bennett, Angela Schilling & Ryan Canaday will be anchoring the CVI location from 6 am to 6pm on Friday, December 11th! More about this event as it gets closer.
Jose Won $7000 Playing Video Keno
When "Live" Isn't Better: We don’t usually include a lot of information about winners in our blog. It’s not that we don’t have a lot of winners; we just try to save the day-to-day winners news for our outside sign and our Carson & Valley Voice newspaper. However, when Jose pocketed $7000 in cash on one of our video Keno games last week it reminded us of something we’ve wanted to cover for a while: Live Keno vs Video Keno. Back in the “old days” when the Carson Valley Inn and many other casinos had “live” Keno, it really wasn’t that good a deal for customers. Sure, it seemed to help pass the time while you were sitting in the restaurant or sipping a beer at the bar. But the truth was (and still is for those few places who offer live Keno) that the expense of an entire department with runners, writers, supervisors, regulations, special equipment and systems, reporting, cameras, etc. amounted to so much that the customer only got about a 70% payback. Today’s video Keno machines are like any other slot with the customer enjoying a payback percentage in the mid-90s depend on the specific machine and pay tables.  Just ask Jose – he has $7000 worth of customer advantage in his pocket!

Race and Sports Book:
  • This week you can watch and bet The World Series, NFL and College Football, Horseracing, NBA Basketball, NHL Hockey and Sunday’s NASCAR Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway.
  • The PRO PK’EM jackpot is up to $3,645 on this week’s progressive parlay card. Pick all the games straight up and you win!
  • The Breeders Cup is horseracing biggest fall event and the races are this Friday and Saturday, October 30 & 31. Catch the action, chat with other racing enthusiasts and place a bet or two right here at the CVI!
  • Football games our sports book crew is following with interest this weekend include Notre Dame (6-1) vs. Temple (7-0) on Saturday and the showdown of two undefeated teams when the Broncos and the Packers play Sunday night.
  • Back in July you could (and some did) place a bet at 15-1 on the Mets winning the World Series. Doesn’t look like too bad an investment now (ah, the clarity of hindsight)!
Cabaret Lounge Entertainment – No Cover, No Minimum – Free! Jonathan "JB" Barton performs tonight; American Made entertains Thursday thru and Saturday nights, NFL Football is on Sunday and Monday Nights and George Pickard returns next Tuesday and Wednesday. Sometimes called “The Everything Band,” American Made spans eight decades of music, from the 40’s to the present, including oldies, classic rock, country, big-band swing, R&B and current dance music. The award-winning group has been entertaining audiences throughout CA and NV for over 30 years with 4 lead singers and players, all live, all the time!

As Always, Interesting, Helpful and Even Useful Tidbits and News
  • Mike’s Horses: Nothing to report from last weekend.
  • Duck Friday, Prime Rib Saturday, King Crab Sunday in CV Steak:  Our Friday special this week is Grilled Duck Breast with fresh herbs and natural duck jus for $28.00. Saturday night it's Garlic Studded Prime Rib for $26 and Sunday's special is one pound of King Crab Legs for $32. All these specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato (au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked), tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread.
  • Because we feel like mentioning it:
    • Thursday is Internet Day – the article includes a link to the original website and a discussion about how the term "spam" originated including a video of the original 1970 Monty Python Spam sketch!
    • Saturday is Increase Your Psychic Powers Day. We mention it only because there is some irony in a casino property even hinting at the sharpening of psychic powers!!

Nevada Football Coach at CVI, Thanksgiving Dinner for 10 to Go, Community Food Drive, More

Raise Your Hand if you and your family of four have been invited to someone's house for Thanksgiving dinner and told you don't have to bring anything, the complete dinner will be provided, they want you to come early to watch football and not even participate in the preparation. Hmm, not very many hands went up. Now, raise your hand if you're still trying to  figure out what to do about Thanksgiving dinner and you really don't want to go through all the shopping, cleaning, cutting, slicing, cooking etc. but, you'd still like to have a nice home-cooked Thanksgiving dinner served for your family and friends on your dining room table and leftovers the next day! Aha, a lot more hands went up! As you might imagine – because we never would've brought it up if this weren't the case – we have a solution: order one of our Thanksgiving Turkey Dinners To Go for up to 10 people for just $89 and all you have to worry about is inviting a few friends, setting the table, serving the food, and cleaning up afterwards. Sound a lot simpler? You bet it does! How can you get such a deal? Click here and a flyer tells you how!

Tough Game Last Week Coach.  While the Nevada Wolf Pack didn’t make it into the “Win” column last Saturday at Wyoming, the stage is still set for their game against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors this Saturday. Two days later – that’s this Monday, October 26 – Wolfpack Coach Brian Polian will be holding his weekly Blitz Lunch in our Valley Ballroom and all Pack fans are invited to attend. If you have been to one of these luncheons you know they’re pretty informal, always informative, and certainly affordable at just $17.  Coach usually brings one of the key players and always brings some “behind the scenes” explanations of the game film he shares with the audience. No reservations are necessary, just show up when we start gathering at 11:30 a.m. Lunch is buffet style and Coach’s presentation immediately follows lunch.

CV Steak Garners Quite a Nice Review! Local resident Michele Armstrong publishes a blog under the title Small Town Living in Nevada and she paid us a visit in CV Steak last week. Follow her story about enjoying our Escargot, 14 oz. Rib Eye Steak, Surf N Turf, Nevada Grill and all the trimmings!

Burger Wars: Vote once each day thru this Thursday (that’s tomorrow!) in the 2015 Burger Wars poll being conducted by carsonvalleytimes.com. The Volcano is our entry from the Jackpot Café in Sharkeys Casino. This is the way to go if you’re looking for the good old-fashioned cowboy spicy hot taste in a burger.  The Gourmet Burger is served in CV Steak and it comes in two versions: The French Disaster and The American Disaster. You can read all about them and cast your vote on this page.

Disney Characters Run Amok in the CVI Valley Ballroom! What is this . . . a sensationalist headline from The Enquirer?  Well, there's some sensationalism and a lot of truth because it pretty well describes what you'll see Saturday night in our Valley Ballroom when the 15th Annual Bunko for Breast Cancer kicks in right around 6 PM. Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center is the beneficiary as over 200 costumed and boisterous enthusiasts play bunco, scream, party and generally push the limits of sanity. The event is graciously organized and enthusiastically run by the many volunteers at the Minden GE plant. It’s still not too late to get involved in the evening’s play  . . . call Sheila at 775 215-1626 or Pamela at 775-215-1001.

Share Your Christmas: Christmas . . .  already?! Don’t act surprised – it’s already happening in many stores. We can’t escape it, so join in by grabbing your phone, tablet or paper calendar and marking Friday, December 11 for the annual KTVN 22nd Annual Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive.

Race and Sports Book:
  • This week you can watch and bet Horseracing, Major League Baseball playoff games, NFL and College Football, and Sunday’s NASCAR CAMPINGWORLD.COM 500 At Talladega Speedway.
  • The PRO PK’EM jackpot is up to $3,495 on this week’s progressive parlay card. Remember, pick all the games straight up and you win!
  • Games our sports book crew is following with interest this weekend (in addition to our “local” teams): Cal vs. UCLA Thursday, Utah vs. USC Saturday, and Patriots vs. Jets and Cowboys vs. Giants on Sunday.

The Blues Monsters
Cabaret Lounge Entertainment – No Cover, No Minimum – Free! George Pickard performs tonight; entertainment takes a night off on Thursday so we can show the 49ers - Seahawks game. The Blues Monsters are in Friday and Saturday nights, NFL Football is on Sunday and Monday Nights and Jonathan "JB" Barton appears next Tuesday and Wednesday. The Blues Monsters are a red-hot rockin' blues band performing a powerfully unique combination of R&B, funk, jazz, and Chicago-style blues – this one is a "don't miss." Whether paying respects to the masters of traditional blues, or rockin' out other tunes, The Blues Monsters get the whole house up and dancing! The Forty Niners and Seahawks are struggling NFL teams and, believe it or not, the winner is guaranteed at least a tie for 2nd in the NFC West Division.

As Always, Interesting, Helpful and Even Useful Tidbits and News

  • Game Tips Friday, Prime Rib Saturday, King Crab Sunday in CV Steak:  Our Friday Special this week is Elk Game Tips - sautéed and finished with a brandy apple mushroom risotto for $25.00. Saturday night its Garlic Studded Prime Rib for $26 and Sunday's special is one pound of King Crab Legs for $32. All these specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato (au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked), tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread.
  • Because we feel like mentioning it:
    • Today is National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day and we have fresh-made (in our bakery) pumpkin cheesecake for sale – either whole cheesecakes at the Katie's bakery counter or by the slice in Katie’s Restaurant. Today is also Babbling Day – a celebration day for those who communicate with a glib tongue. Just don’t talk while your mouth is full of cheesecake!
    • Tomorrow is National Nut Day which can go two ways; a day to honor all of the nutty people in the world or a day to celebrate nutritious and healthy nuts (food) of all kinds.
    • Sunday is Mother-In-Law Day. Let us know how many cards you find in Walgreens or Raley's for Mother-In-Law Day! Turns out that Sunday is also World Pasta Day. Perhaps take your mother-in-law out for a pasta dinner? Conveniently, we just happen to feature a Spaghetti and Meatballs special on Sundays in The Jackpot Café at Sharkey’s!

The Volcano, The French Disaster, A Craft Show and More

The Volcano Barely Edges The Hangover! Sounds like the headlines the day after a bout between two boxers with quirky names!  If you read our blog last week, you'll know these are both specialty hamburgers we serve in the Jackpot Café at Sharkey's Casino. And the truth is, The Volcano barely did edge The Hangover for first place in the Burger Wars poll by carsonvalleytimes.com so The Volcano joins the top three finishers in the 2014 Burger Wars poll for the 2015 Finals voting which starts this coming Monday at carsonvalleytimes.com.
I may not look hot, but read about me . . . I am!
The Volcano is definitely a unique burger. We start with ground beef and ground chorizo and combine them together in a mixture percentage known only to Chef Bruce at Sharkey's. A beginning amount of ghost pepper cheese (pretty darn hot stuff!) is folded into this meat mixture. The burger is then cooked and additional ghost pepper cheese is melted on top. We add a secret spicy sauce and sprinkle on some volcano dust, a seasoning blend of some pretty spicy peppers (again known only to Chef Bruce). We serve it up with a stack of french fries or, for a small extra charge you can get sweet potato waffle fries which tend to ease the “heat” of the burger.
If you think The Volcano is close to the edge of the charts, be sure to check one of the other finalists, the “not for lightweights” CV Steak Gourmet Burger available in two versions: The French Disaster and The American Disaster.  We start with two half-pound Char Broiled Burger Patties made from choice Filet Mignon, New York and Rib Eye Steak ground in house. Toppings and additions include Jack and Cheddar Cheese, Smoked Tomato, Pickled Cucumber Slices, an Onion Ring and Truffle Oil Mayonnaise. The French Disaster is topped with Duck liver "Foie Gras" and a Quail Egg . . . The American Disaster is topped with Applewood-Smoked Bacon. This monstrosity is served with Fresh Potatoes, French Fried and lathered with butter and garlic Parsley. Most people can't finish this gigantuous $19 feast but they often come back to try again!

The 15th Annual Touch of Class Craft Show is this Thursday through Saturday in our Valley Ballroom from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day. A Touch of Class is a unique craft show as all of the twodozen plus crafters sell items handmade here in Nevada, there are no booths, and there are central cashiers eliminating the need to purchase items from individual crafters. For more information, contact Sue at 775-265-1097. Or, better yet, catch this 3-minute clip with Melissa Carlson that aired on MyNews4 and Fox 11 News earlier this week. Great coverage of everything you can expect!

Good Game Last Week Coach! The Nevada Wolf Pack looked good in their win over New Mexico last Saturday and Coach Brian Polian shared the highlights with those attending the weekly Blitz Lunch last Monday – but it was in Reno (boo). The Pack is at Wyoming this Saturday and they then host Hawaii on Saturday, October 24th. Win or lose that week, Coach Polian will be here at the Carson Valley Inn for his Blitz Lunch in our Valley Ballroom on Monday, October 26 and let’s hope the film and player highlights he shares are of a big win over the Rainbow Warriors! All Wolfpack fans are invited to attend . . . and we make it easy on you as no reservations are necessary, just show up for the start of the gathering at 11:30 a.m. and pay at the door (under $20).

Fun Bunko - Serious Cause: Time to get serious about participating in the annual Bunko for Breast Cancer event in the CVI Valley Ballroom on Saturday night, October 24. There are lots of ways you can get involved including assembling and sponsoring a team, sponsoring a table, giving a cash donation, donating prizes for the raffle or auction, or just throwing your hat into the ring to help in whatever way is needed. The Bunko for Breast Cancer Webpage has links to just about anything that might trigger your involvement. So how many are on a bunco team? What kind of prizes are they looking for? What’s the dress theme?  Heck, we don't know all the answers . . . we're still befuddled by why this group spells it "Bunko" when everything we've found says "Bunco!" For the answers to these and other questions, call Sheila at 775-215-1626.

Race and Sports Book:
  • This week you can watch and bet Horseracing, the Major League Baseball playoffs (3 series finale showdowns between today and tomorrow), NFL and College Football, and Sunday’s NASCAR Hollywood Casino 400 at the Kansas Speedway.
  • The PRO PK’EM jackpot is $3,358 on this week’s progressive parlay card.
  • Football games our sports book crew is watching with interest this weekend include the Michigan (#7) vs. Michigan State (#12) game on Saturday, all the Sunday NFL games involving the remaining unbeaten teams and the Giants vs. Eagles game on Monday night. They also gave us a “sure bet” – the Atlanta Falcons will remain undefeated after this weekend! Of course we all know about the uncertainty of a "sure bet!"

Main Street Minden Fall Fling This Saturday: The Main Street Minden Fall Fling this Saturday, October 17 is from 3 to 9 pm on Esmeralda Street, a short walk from the CVI. Food available for purchase includes soups, stuffed mushrooms, chips and salsa, fabulous BBQ appetizers and more. There will also be hot cocoa, 12 beers on tap and other beverages for sale. Kids activities include balloon animals, Photobooth by Legendary Entertainment, pumpkin decorating and story teller Captain Michael. While the adults enjoy more food and beverage along Esmeralda Street, the kids can watch the movie Frankenweenie in the CVIC Hall with FREE adult supervision, and popcorn from Ironwood Cinemas. Find out more on the Main Street Minden Webpage or call Sheila at (775) 309-1101.

Cabaret Lounge Entertainment – No Cover, No Minimum – Free! Josh Budro performs tonight, the The Voodoo Cowboys make their CVI Cabaret Lounge debut Thursday thru Saturday nights, NFL Football is on Sunday and Monday Nights and George Pickard appears next Tuesday and Wednesday.   Playing together since 2009, the Voodoo Cowboys have appeared at most major casino venues in Nevada. Not the “cryin' in your beer” type country band, they are the life of the party with their dance-inducing, hard drivin' country music and rock ‘n’ roll. The group has rocked crowds on numerous stages around the world, as well as sharing stages with such rock and country stars as David Nail, Little Texas, Ron Keel, Toby Keith and many more. George Pickard is an early-week regular at the CVI. He co-wrote What Did You Do with Your Old Forty Fives for Bobby Vinton and was also one of the Kingsmen (Louie, Louie) for a while.

As Always, Interesting, Helpful and Even Useful Tidbits and News
  • Wednesday Ladies' Night 5:30 to 8:30 PM: The first 150 ladies to sign up tonight receive a blue or silver water bottle  and coupon for tonight's ladies-only drink special.  There are also ladies-only raffles and hot seat drawings for Wine Country Gift Gift Baskets. Also just for October: Earn just 50 points during Ladies Night and receive a free ladies shirt plus you keep the points! Tonight’s free shirt is a pink short sleeve t-shirt.
  • Quail Friday, Prime Rib Saturday, King Crab Sunday in CV Steak:  Our Friday Special this week is Roasted Stuffed Quail with prosciutto, wild rice and plum port glaze for $28.00.
    • Today is National Dessert Day. Best we can interpret the meaning, everyone is supposed to disregard calorie, fat, or sugar content and just gobble it all down. We're neither suggesting that you do this nor suggesting that you don't. However, if it sounds good, the desserts in Katie's and CV Steak are here to help you.
    • Friday is Bosses Day. The theory is that it doesn't hurt to be nice to your boss at least one day a year! And if you decide to write your boss and note, please make sure that your spelling and grammar are correct as Friday is also Dictionary Day.
    • Saturday is Wear Something Gaudy Day. For some of us, that just means that what we wear every day is somewhat acceptable and tolerated one day a year.
    • Monday is Evaluate Your Life Day. Probably falls at a good time especially if you overate on the National Dessert Day, took the wrong approach on Bosses Day, and really went overboard on Wear Something Gaudy Day!
    • Next Wednesday is National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day and rumor has it we will have fresh made (in our bakery) pumpkin cheesecake for sale in Katie's and at the Katie's bakery counter.
Comments? Have questions or comments about the CVI? Use the comments section below, shoot us an email or just pick up the phone and call us @ 775-782-9711. Events, Winners, Promotions and More Carson Valley Inn News

About the Two Harley Winners Last Friday
Ray
Rebecca
Ray Cotham was the Harley winner at the CVI and the money vs. Harley decision was easy for Ray. As an octogenarian, he really didn’t have use for a Harley . . . But the $10,000 will “keep me in bullets” (money to keep playing the slots) for quite a while!! Naturally, Ray didn’t expect to win but was pleased to be in the final group when he drew a third 8 on the final turn of the cards to beat a pair of nines! Rebecca Valenzuela was the Bodines Harley winner and her story is rather interesting. She reluctantly came to the final drawings with absolutely no expectation of winning as she had also won the Ford F150 truck promotion at Bodines this summer. While it’s all a blur to Rebecca, she was greeted with a warm round of applause and many hugs from the other Bodines regulars and many of the employees. She and her husband toyed with the idea of trading in his Harley and taking the new one . . . But they also eventually chose the $10,000 cash! Could you be next on our big winner list? Click here for information on all our October promotions!

Cool Stuff at Sharkey’s: We like to include a few tidbits about our sister property Sharkey's Casino when we can - here are a few you might find helpful:
  • New daily Breakfast Special: two eggs, two sausage links, and two pancakes all for just $4.99 – quite a plateful for under five bucks!
  • Point Multipliers in October: Sharkey's club players enjoy 5X points every Friday and Saturday and 3X Points every Sunday. Camp out for the weekend and watch your point total climb rapidly!
  • “The Volcano" and "The Hangover" Burgers are two favorites in The Jackpot Café and that popularity shows as both were trending well in the 2015 Burger Wars poling being conducted by carsonvalleytimes.com. If you agree with their awesomeness, please vote so that one of them can join CV Steak’s top-three finisher the “French Disaster” in this year’s finals.
  • The Main Street Gardnerville Inaugural "Slaughterhouse Lane Coffin Races" are happening right across Highway 395 from Sharkey's this Saturday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm with over a dozen different entries (so far). We know you're going to want to stop by Sharkey's either for breakfast before the coffin races or for a drink at the Silver Dollar Bar after the races. Coffin races? All the information can be found at this link.

Ladies Poker Tournament Winner and Ladder Drawings:
  • Congratulations to Janice who won our Ladies-only Texas Hold 'em Bounty Tournament last Sunday. If you missed out, the next of these monthly events is on Sunday, November 1.
  • The first drawings in our Ladder Promotion are this Friday night with $150 going out at 6 PM, $150 at 7 PM and $500 at 8 PM. You must be present to win and we’ll draw each hour until we have a winner. Still not sure if you are one of the top 50 who qualified for these drawings after August and September play? Call the poker room today at 775-783-7763.
  • Check out all the Poker Room tournaments, promotions and special games at this link
Blackjack Tournament This Tuesday: Our monthly Blackjack Tournament is this Tuesday and this is one of those "great value for the money" events. The buy-in is just $25 which gets you a whole stack of tournament chips. We put all the entry fees and any re-buys into the prize fund which can grow to a pretty good number based on participation how many choose to buy back in after going bust. Signups are from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the pit area and play starts at 6:00 p.m. The tournament is open to all INN Club members. Joining the INN Club is easy and free and can be done at Guest Services in the casino or on line at thislink.

Race and Sports Book:
  • This week you can watch and bet Horseracing, Major League Baseball games, NFL and College Football, and Saturday’s NASCAR Bank of America 500 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
  • The PRO PK’EM jackpot is up to $3,176 on this week’s progressive parlay card.
  • Games our sports book crew are watching this weekend:
    • College: the Northwestern  vs. Michigan game (ask Mike in the sports book – he’ll tell you why!) and the 5-0 Cal Bears vs. the 4-0 Utah Utes.
    • NFL: the always heated NFL rivalry of Denver vs. Oakland and a pivotal game for both teams as the undefeated Bengals battle the we-thought-they’d-be-undefeated Seahawks.
  • Still time to place a wager on who’ll win the World Series. As of late yesterday we had the Toronto Blue Jays as the favorites at 3 to 1 followed by the Kansas City Royals at 4 to 1.
Cabaret Lounge Entertainment – No Cover, No Minimum – Free! Steve Lord performs tonight the The Nighthawks entertain Thursday thru Saturday nights, NFL Football is on Sunday and Monday Nights and Josh Budro appears next Tuesday and Wednesday.   The Nighthawks are a local (Gardnerville-Wellington) country and rock band specializing in popular dance tunes from the 60's and 70's. The group performs a wide variety of styles covering artists from Alan Jackson to ZZ Top, including great classic country tunes and expert performances of classic rock songs. Vocalist, song writer and guitarist Josh Budro started singing and writing songs about life experiences when he was in high school. While maintaining a love for the old country music he grew up on (Waylon, Willie, Hank, Merle) Josh is also performs country rock.
