Carson Valley Inn Opens June 4 - What to Expect

We Are Reopening Thursday, June 4!
Here's What to Expect
We have been meticulously preparing and training according to the strict sanitizing and distancing guidelines provided by the CDC and reinforced and required by the Nevada Gaming Control Board. All the procedures are in place to optimize the safety and protection of our employees and our guests. We are deeply thankful for the many, many expressions of support we have received from our customers and friends during the mandated shut down. We look forward to seeing you all again and ask for your patience as we all wade through the ‘adventure’ of the new way of doing things with social distancing, dining limitations, PPE, extra cleaning times (especially with hotel rooms) and a myriad of other new procedures that will certainly bring unexpected surprises.  What follows is a peek at what you can expect when we reopen this Thursday. We ask your understanding as we move forward in a manner that protects you and our staff while keeping us compliant with the Nevada Gaming Control Board requirements.

In the Casino
The Casino will reopen at 12:01 AM on Thursday and then be open 24/7.  As with every other casino in Nevada, you will notice many changes. Slot availability is cut in half – every other slot chair has been removed.  There’s a limit of three seats (players) at table games. Social distancing will be required throughout the casino. Bars will be open to every other seat and congregating around them is not permitted.  Unfortunately, guests are not allowed to walk up to a bar and be served a drink. Our staff will happily deliver your favorite beverage to you.  The Race & Sports Book will be open. During this first phase of reopening, the craps table and the poker room will remain closed. Cabaret Lounge entertainment will resume as soon as possible but it has been suspended for the month of June.

Casino Promotions
You’ll still enjoy many casino promotions, all reformatted to distribute prizes and foster fun without building a crowd AND while adhering to social distancing. Here’s a summary of the June promotions.  Our staff can answer any questions:
  • Mondays:  Hot Seats every hour from 11 AM to 7 PM with prizes up to $1,000. We’ll draw the winner and deliver your prize as you continue playing!
  • Tuesdays: Point Multiplier Spin for those receiving our June mailer. Present your Mailer at Guest Services and we’ll spin the wheel to determine your point multiplier for all of your play the same day.
  • Wednesdays: Date Night from 5:30 to 8:30 PM with Bingo, Raffles and Hot Seats. We’ll deliver your cash and or FreePlay winnings one at a time!
  • Thursdays: 10X Drawing entries for the weekend Crowdless Drawings. Simply put: Your casino play garners you ten times the usual drawing entries!
  • Fridays: 5X Points for all of your slot play!
  • Fridays and Saturdays - Crowdless Giveaways: All month you are accumulating 1 free drawing entry for every point earned from your casino play (10X on Thursdays.) On Fridays and Saturdays from 6 – 8:15 PM we’ll draw one winner every 15 minutes and deliver your cash or FreePlay prize to you!
  • Sundays: Point Multiplier Spin for those receiving our June mailer. Present your Mailer at Guest Services and we’ll spin the wheel to determine your point multiplier for all of your play the same day.
Katie’s
Katie’s will reopen at 6 AM on Thursday and the new Katie’s hours will be 6 AM to 10 PM Sunday through Thursday and 6 AM to midnight Friday and Saturday. Seating capacity is 50% of previous so please bear with us as we try to accommodate as many of you as possible. The counter will be open but subject to strict social distancing  At first, many of the daily specials will not be available. However we will try to phase some of them back in as our staff and our guests adjust to the new preparation procedures, between-guest sanitizing and seating capacity. Also, the menu has had some minor adjustments due to product availability and new preparation guidelines. The Katie's Bakery Counter will be open.

CV Steak
CV Steak will reopen at 4:30 PM on Thursday and be open from 4:30 PM seven days a week. To comply with distancing requirements, we can now only serve 50% of previous capacity. To help make this work, and to help us accommodate as many of you as possible, party sizes may be limited. The CV Steak menu has remained basically the same. We ask your understanding as we adjust to the new preparation and between-guest procedures and, most importantly regarding CV Steak: we strongly suggest advance reservations by calling 775-783-6650.

Hotel, Motor Lodge and RV Resort
The Hotel and RV Resort are open. For now, the Motor Lodge is open for Friday and Saturday night stays only. Reservations can be made through our website or by phone at 775-783-6629. RV reservations can only be made by phone at the same number.  We have implemented all of the new cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing procedures required to “turn” or prepare a room for a new guest. Please bear with us as our staff adjusts to these new procedures which are all in place to help protect you.

Amenities
The pool and sundeck will be open with social distancing required. The area with the two large spas and the workout room will remain closed. Limited Bell Service will be available but, very unfortunately; Valet Parking will not be available.  The Business Center will be accessible one person at a time and entry can only be gained by checking at the hotel desk.

Convention Center Functions
The Convention Center is open and we welcome bookings for meetings, banquets, weddings and other functions up to 50 (for now). Please call Carrie at 775-783-6673. We are required to provide social distancing at all functions – whether seated or standing. And, during this phase of the reopening, only plated meals are available. Buffet service is not yet permitted.

Wrapping It All Up
We want you to feel comfortable and safe when you return to the Carson Valley Inn. To that end we are properly prepared and will be adhering to all the requirements. As with all casinos, the Gaming Control Board will be monitoring our adherence.  Our employees will wear masks. we suggest you do also. We will have them available at Guest Services should you want one - same with gloves.  Hand sanitizing stations will be positioned throughout the property and we encourage you to use them. We also encourage you to wash your hands often while you are here. If we all pitch in, we can move forward safely together. Thanks again for your understanding as we move forward. WELCOME BACK!

TJ's More than Just Concerts, Pastries, Margaritas, Chili, Chowder and Much More

TJ’s Corral – More Than Just Concerts
A Distant Shot of a Wedding Ceremony
Preceding the Reception in TJ's Corral
We answer our phone calls and read our social media and emails so we know that learning more details and ticket availability regarding the 2018 concert series in TJ’s Corral is on the top of everyone’s mind. And, if you'll bear with us (please?!), we’ll have more on that next week.

For now, did you know that TJ’s Corral is for more than just concerts? Our Outdoor Event Venue has been used for multi-day corporate events, an elaborate wedding and reception, various fundraising events, a Celebration of Life, private VIP parties, and sporting events such as collegiate boxing and MMA fights.

If you are contemplating a large event - be it business or social - we’d welcome the opportunity to talk to you about holding it in TJ‘s Corral. Start by giving Carrie a call at 775-783-6673. She'll help assess your needs and start formulating a plan - and associated cost - for how it might play out in TJ's Corral.

Valentine’s Day Takeaways
We made some observations last week around Valentine’s Day – perhaps some of these thoughts will help you in the future. Most obvious was how late many people waited to try to make reservations for CV Steak. Don’t know that this will ever change, but it sure resulted in a lot of people being disappointed. On the positive side, quite a few callers, when given the slight suggestion, made a reservation for either a day or two before Valentine’s Day or even the day after.  We saw a lot of couples enjoying Valentines dinner on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of last week without the crowds that populate any restaurant on any actual “dining out” holiday. Looking ahead, mark down Sunday, April 1 (less than 6 weeks away) for Easter and also Sunday, May 12 for Mother’s Day. Both of these holidays also bring heavy crowds to our restaurants and reservations fill up fast as the holiday draws closer. For Mother’s Day, we have an alternative for our many customers from outside of the immediate area: take advantage of our Mother’s Day Weekend Hotel and Dining Package. Arrive on Friday, enjoy all the spring fun the Carson Valley has to offer and plan your Mother’s Day celebration on Saturday night in CV Steak. If you’d like to add flowers on arrival as part of your Mother’s Day weekend package, let our reservations folks know and they’ll give you the names of a couple of area florists. They’ll deliver to us the day of your arrival and we’ll have the flowers waiting in your room!

We Did Our Sticky Bun Tests
Sticky Buns
Today is Sticky Bun Day. We tried our best to find someone at CVI who would tell us point blank that we do offer sticky buns by their strictest definition. Our Food and Beverage Director, Executive Chef, Pastry Chef and even our seasoned Food Buyer all gave us the thumbs down saying technically, none of our bakery products are the conventional definition of a sticky bun. So, we went up to Job’s Perk for our own research. We ordered a cinnamon roll, a bear claw, and a Danish pastry and, between two of us, ate ‘em all. We then applied the napkin test – how many we used to keep our hands and mouths unsticky during the accompanying conversation. The verdict? All three of these pastries are sticky enough in our book to be acceptable for observing Sticky Bun Day! If you don’t want people to know you’re eating these incredibly satisfying goodies, we’ll help you pull off this clandestine approach:  Come into Job’s Perk, quietly order the “sticky” pastries of your choice plus a banana and an oat bran muffin. We’ll put the decadent pastries in a nondescript bag behind the counter and hand them to you discreetly. You can then walk out with this bag while giving a healthful appearance of consuming a banana and an oat bread muffin! Oh, if you have given up sweets for lent, please don’t take this as a temptation . . .

Interesting But Only Moderately Important
  • Thursday is Margarita Day and Chili Day.  We don’t confine ourselves to a particular day on these two: Margaritas are served 24/7 at our casino bar and Chili is on the menu 365 days a year in Katie’s. And we will readily admit that we do have a couple of kinds of beans in our Chili. So, to the purists who insist that real Chili doesn’t have beans, just enjoy what we serve and ponder this: Is it chili or chilli?
  • Saturday is World Bartender Day - the day to appreciate the staff in your local bar which at the CVI could be either the Casino Bar or the CV Steak Bar or even one of our banquet bars. If you choose to cut out the middleman (the bartender), settle in at home on Saturday night and celebrate Open That Bottle Night with someone you love.
  • Sunday is National Clam Chowder Day but it seems we were just there with a similar claim on January 21. Turns out the January date was just for New England Clam Chowder and that limitation isn’t placed on the February 25 “celebration.” Whatever . . . we serve our Clam Chowder New England style in Katie’s and we do so every Friday!
  • Tuesday is Kahlua Day.  Mudslide, Black Russian, Coffee Martini, B52, T52 Shooter  . . . these are just some of the drinks presented in this list of 23 Kahlua Recipes.  Can our bartenders make them all? Guess you’ll just have to ask them!

$200,000 Giveaway, A Weekend with Mom, a Chocolate-Dipped Ladies Night and More

Two Toyota Winners . . .
. . . And Now We Crank It Up Towards $200,000!
Sylvia almost fainted when she won. Rick was a little more accepting. And without fanfare, they both opted for the $15,000 cash instead of taking the Toyota Corolla each won last Saturday night. So, let’s move forward because things really ramp up now as we start dispersing the Carson Valley Inn’s share of our 4-property $200,000 Giveaway Promotion over the next seven weekends. CVI drawings are at 5, 7 and 9 PM every Friday and Saturday through the end of March with a guaranteed $1000 winner at each drawing - that’s three guaranteed $1000 winners every Friday night and every Saturday night! As the late-night TV ads sometimes blare out, “But Wait, There’s More!” We’ll pull an additional four winners at each of the nightly drawings with lots of cash to go around. Getting in on all this is very simple. Always use your INN Club card while playing in the casino and you are automatically adding one drawing entry for every five points you earn through March 31!

Celebrating the Special Women in Your Life
Being a mom, wife, or grandma is one of the toughest, yet most rewarding jobs imaginable. While we should show our appreciation all days of the year, this Mother’s Day, the Carson Valley Inn can help you give the special woman or women in your life a weekend of appreciation. Friday and Saturday, May 11 & 12 we’re offering a weekend package for two that includes a hotel room for two nights plus an $80 Food & Beverage card to use at you leisure in CV Steak or Katie’s Country Kitchen . . . and even for morning coffee and pastries in Job’s Perk. Whether you hit it out of the park or not with your Valentine’s Day gesture, start planning now for a Mother’s Day getaway at the CVI!   To learn more click here and select “Mother’s Day Package” in the Rate Plan area when making a reservation online or give us a call at 775-783-6629.

TJ’s Corral 2018 Schedule Expanding Soon
Sorry, but we’re taking a week off from announcing any more 2018 concerts for TJ’s Corral. However, were not done and we expect to have more to announce over the next few weeks. So, for now, make sure you’ve got the following on your calendar: Granger Smith on Saturday, June 16; Clint Black on FridayJune 29; Trace Adkins on Saturday, July 14; and Creedence Clearwater Revisited on Sunday, August 12. And were finding out it’s a good thing we have thick skin, ‘cause we’re really getting pressured on when tickets will be available. Please know we are not trying to build suspense, withhold information, tease, or otherwise delay. We just still have a few things to work out with our ticketing system and a couple of the performers before we can announce ticket availability and pricing. Please watch our weekly blog and our social media for more information. And thanks for your patience!

Sometimes We Can’t Even Give It Away!
Think back to Super Bowl Sunday or the few days before. Did you play a $5 Progressive Pro Pick 'em card at either the CVI or Sharkey’s Casino? Or, perhaps you know someone who did? We still have two people out there somewhere who got 12 out of their 15 picks correct and have $1,250 coming to them in cash. So, dig through your pockets and see if one of these winning tickets belongs to you. If it does, come by the Sports Book at the Carson Valley Inn and we’ll walk you to our Guest Services counter to pick up your winnings!

Never Combine Bear Claws with Wine!
What happens when you try to celebrate National Almond Day with a bear claw and Drink Wine Day with a “thought no one was watching” grab from the wine cooler!
  • Today is Ferris Wheel Day. The Ferris Wheel was invented by George W. G. Ferris, Jr., younger brother of Margaret Ferris Dangberg, and unveiled at the 1893 Columbian Exposition aka Chicago World’s fair. Common belief is that this invention was inspired right here in Carson Valley . . . by a water wheel at Cradlebaugh Bridge on the Carson River.  Find out more by checking Fun Fact #4 on this Page.
  • Friday is National Almond Day. With a well-deserved nod to this heart-healthy food in its basic form, we suggest you disregard that part of the intent on Friday and enjoy one of our Bear Claws from Job’s Perk . . . almond paste inside and slivered almonds on top!
  • Sunday is Drink Wine Day. Good timing because we just updated our CV Steak Wine List. We added more wines and also made more of our selections (almost 30!) available by-the-glass. Check it out!
  • Tuesday is Cherry Pie Day.  We are currently selling Mini Cherry Pies as part of the many made-in-house items available the Katie’s Bakery Counter. We tried to take a picture to post here, but we ate it before we could get the camera out.

Coach Polian at CVI, Could Job's Perk Influence the Election?, Sportsbook Picks, More

Blitz Lunch with Coach Polian Monday:
Nevada Wolf Pack football coach Brian Polian will be here at the CVI for one of his four 2016 Blitz Lunches on Monday, October 24 and all area Wolf Pack fans are invited to attend! Coach will be sharing information about the state of the Nevada football program and showing film from Nevada’s homecoming game this Saturday against the Wyoming Cowboys. His candor, openness and specialized game film combine for an interesting and enlightening program. The buffet lunch is $20 per person in the Valley Ballroom - the doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon. No advance reservations are necessary.

TG Sheppard in 3 Weeks:
T.G. Sheppard's first commercial album in over 13 years "Legendary Friends & Country Duets" was released about a year ago featuring duets with some of music's biggest icons. The four minute video above, shot during the recording of TG’s duet with the Oak Ridge Boys singing “Down On My Knees,”  includes a light-hearted exchange between TG and William Lee Golden of the Oaks bantering about which artist provokes the most back stage pass requests from the female fans! TG Sheppard and his special guest, wife Kelly Lang, returns for a special acoustic concert in the Valley Ballroom on Saturday night, November 12. Tickets are $25 and are available at the hotel desk or by calling 775-783-6606. A special 2-night hotel package is also available that includes tickets for TJ’s Concert. All the details are at this link.

Walk Inside to Influence Others' Opinions!
Could Job's Perk Influence the Upcoming Election?
It's a possibility . . . Follow through on our sometimes sketchy blog writers' logic: according to a study cited in this article, coffee can make one more susceptible to persuasion. Therefore, if you have a friend, relative or neighbor who doesn't lean the same way as you politically, whether about a candidate or an issue, offer to buy him or her a cup of coffee in Job's Perk. Use your friendliest and most gentle persuasion skills and you may just be successful. Do us a favor if you find this works: before the caffeine buzz wears off, drop a hint they spend a few minutes trying their luck in the casino – perhaps on the Penny Progressive. If they win, you’ll be the hero. If they don’t win, you can blame it on the coffee!

Sports and Race Book:
  • On the Board: This week you can bet the American League (Cleveland Indians vs. Toronto Bluejays) and National League (Chicago Cubs vs. Los Angeles Dodgers) Championship Series, NFL and NCAA Football, NBA Basketball (season starts Tuesday, October 25), NHL Hockey, the WNBA Finals (Minnesota Lynx vs. Los Angeles Sparks) and Sunday’s Alabama 500 NASCAR race.  Also on the board: futures bets on who will win the World Series, the NCAA Football Championship, the  Super Bowl and the 2017 NBA Championship.
  • The PRO PK’EM Parlay Progressive is now at $3368 – pick all 15 NFL games straight up on the $5 card and it’s yours!
  • Chatter Around the Sportsbook with Mike & Alan (where did Jim go?):
    • Last Week: Jim liked the Raiders at home against the Chiefs for last Sunday. They didn’t cover and they didn’t win so Jim got booted downstairs to the poker room because we just don’t stand for one of our guys getting a pick wrong! Mike said give the points and take these favorites – Nebraska over Indiana (they covered) and Florida to top Missouri (Florida covered twice over). Mike is now 4-0 over the last two weeks..
    • Mike looked closely at 13th ranked and undefeated West Virginia Mountaineers (-5½) hosting the 4-2 TCU Horned Frogs and he says take the favorite at home. He also espoused on his “when two less-than-stellar-teams play each other” theory that when there is a large point spread, usually take the underdog. So, he likes the 1-5 Buffalo Bulls to be to beat the spread against the favored-by-22 Northern Illinois Huskies (1-6). Alan, who jumped in for Jim, likes the “they are starting to come together” Kansas City Chiefs (-6½) to cover against the “my what a porous defense” New Orleans Saints.
A Few Tidbits:
  • She’s Coming Back so mark your certain-to-be-busy holiday calendar for Sister’s Christmas Catechism show on Thursday and Friday, December 1 and 2. Tickets are $22 and are available at the hotel desk or you can order by phone at 775-783-6606.
  • Thursday is Suspender’s Day (just try to buy ‘em around here!) which we share because it is the perfect questionably useful info for Information Overload Day on the same day. On a more pertinent tone, Thursday is also Waiter’s Day so if you’re dining in CV Steak or Katie’s, please give an extra nod of appreciation to your server as it often is a tough job.
  • Friday is Apple Day – think Apple Pie in Katie’s!!
  • Tuesday is World Pasta Day - not to be confused with National Pasta Day which was last Wednesday (we have no idea why they are not on the same day). Anyway, we suggest you satisfy your appetite without pasta on Tuesday and then get your pasta fix with one of Katie's Wednesday Italian Specials or stop by Sharkey’s on Thursday and enjoy the Chicken Primavera Pasta Special.
Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge:
Patrick Major entertains tonight, The John Dawson Band is in Thursday through Saturday, we show NFL Football on the Big Screen in the Cabaret on Sunday and Monday nights and Bill Wharton performs next Tuesday and Wednesday. The John Dawson Band is a Reno based group of five fun-lovin' guys who just like to play music and entertain with a variety of modern country and classic rock. According to John, "the Washoe County Parole board took matters into their own hands on a wistful spring evening in 1999, and placed these 5 repeat offenders in a working band, demanding we concentrate on Country Music." The quintet includes Mitch (Lead Guitar), Brian (keys), J.B.  (Bass), Jhan (drums) and John Dawson (vocals and guitar). Click here for the upcoming lineup of  free entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge.
