We’re actively hiring for all four of our properties, the Carson Valley Inn in Minden, Sharkey’s Casino in Gardnerville, and Bodines Casino and SlotWorld Casino in Carson City. We have both part-time and full-time positions available and we’d like to talk with you at our Job Fair on Tuesday, September 11 from 3 to 7 PM in the CVI Convention Center.  Not trained in the area in which you have an interest? No problem. If you have enthusiasm and an outgoing personality, we’ll train you for the job!

Part -Time: Perhaps you’re back in school and want a part-time job that fits your schedule? Perhaps your kids are back in school and you’d like to work a few hours a day?  Perhaps you are retired and miss the social interaction that working with the public provides?  Perhaps you have a full time job and would like part time work to subsidize your income or save for a special project or purchase?

Full-Time:  This is your opportunity to investigate our growing company for positions in all hospitality industry areas including food and beverage, hotel, casino, accounting, administrative, and more. Many of our current supervisors and managers started in entry-level positions – that’s what happens in a growing company and we would like to tell you more!

Seems like there’s always something being remodeled or refreshed here at the Carson Valley Inn. This week, it’s the Banquet Department’s turn as new carpet is being installed in both the Valley Ballroom and West Wing of our convention center. We’ve also done quite a bit of updating in most of our hotel rooms in the last few months and we’ll be putting the finishing touches on many of the rooms (and posting pictures) as soon as business slows down this fall. We have a few other surprises coming this winter and you’ll read about it here in our weekly blog.

Following up on the information we had in last week’s blog, this is a reminder that the United Blood Services Blood Drive is in our west parking lot under the big electronic sign this Thursday from noon to 6 PM.  You can still schedule ahead at this link or just show up and the Bloodmobile folks will get you processed as soon as they can!

Lightning Strikes Twice

The first bolt brought $16,949 to a lucky local two weeks ago when she hit one of our two Lightning Link banks of slots for the Grand Jackpot Progressive. This past Monday lightning struck again when Teresa, another local who is a regular at both the CVI and Sharkey’s, hit the Grand Jackpot on the same bank of four slots for $10,711!  You’ll probably notice the burn marks in the carpet next to these slots which sit on the wall to the right as you come in the main casino entrance!

Seems like we just had a Blood Drive here at CVI . . . But there's another major travel holiday (Labor Day already!) coming up so it's time for United Blood Services to make sure the supply is adequate for the inevitable needs. If you're able to give blood, and we understand not everyone is, please plan on donating at the Blood Drive in our west parking lot (under the big electronic sign) on Thursday, August 30 from noon to 6 PM.  You can easily schedule ahead at this link and remember, the life you save could very well be your own or someone close to you!

"Second Chance" to Catch a TJ's Corral Concert

If you missed some of our TJ's Corral concerts this year because of personal scheduling, tickets were sold out, or any other reason, we're giving you a "second chance" at one more shot of nostalgia when 38 Special performs on Friday, September 21. Known best for their arena-rock pop hits of the eighties, 38 Special had a softer side which is brought out in the above video of Second Chance. In 1989 the song reached #1 on the Billboard US Adult Contemporary Chart and #2 on the Billboard US Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart. We use Banana Custard to make the Banana Cream Pies which are for sale at the Katie’s Bakery Counter. . . and by the slice in Katie’s restaurant. So that’s how we suggest you celebrate Vanilla Custard Day!
• Friday is Pinot Noir Day. We offer a few of them in CV Steak including three by the glass. The most popular? The by-the-bottle single-vineyard Pinot Noir selections from Bella Glos: Clark & Telephone or Las Alturas.

• With a daytime high predicted to be "only" in the mid-90s, an 8 PM start time, and no precipitation in the forecast, Sunday night is shaping up quite nicely for the Creedence Clearwater Revisited concert in TJ's Corral. We checked with our Box Office folks last night and they reported standing room tickets are available and suggested that, if you're still interested in attending, you act quickly. There may be some seated tickets available on Sunday night at the Box Office if we get any last-minute releases by the artist.
• After a  break for the start  of school in many districts, we are thrilled to have 38 Special  returning to TJ's Corral on Friday evening, September 21.  The group was last in TJ's in the summer of 2015.

Here's another chapter from the CVI's “We Couldn't Have Written It Better" book: a discriminating Carson Valley local sent us a message out of the blue last weekend after enjoying a birthday dinner in CV Steak on Friday night. His comments were quite concise and positive: "We had dinner at CV Steak last night. Awesome!! The server Shreya was one of the best I’ve had in a LONG time. And the food: great taste and presentation . . . quality with every item. Every person we encountered was high class from the hostess and the manager to the bus person. Yet he wasn’t like any busser I’ve come across. Engaging from the start. We thought he was our waiter. Excellent table presence and added polite but well timed humor: We’ll call him our 'other server.'" Thanks for your comments and please keep 'em coming!

Catch all the classic cars of Hot August Nights this Thursday when the Poker Run makes its annual stop in Minden Park, just two blocks from the Carson Valley Inn. Park at the CVI if you wish, wander over to catch some of the cars (or watch them pass the CVI from our front door), then escape the heat with lunch or a snack in Katie's or a "cool down" in our casino. The best classic car viewing will be from 10 AM to 2 PM and we offer our special thanks to the Town of Minden and the Carson Valley Visitors Authority for sponsoring this official Hot August Nights Poker Run Stop! Hannah Gregg and Frederick Lindblom took a moment to relax in front of the waterfall on the #8 green at the Genoa Lakes Ranch Course two weeks ago while visiting our area on a social media blitz. Both are very active in the golf business as players, bloggers and product representatives. 

We tried to talk them into coming back for our 34^th Annual Mixed Scramble Golf Tournament in September but their schedule simply was too full. Actually, we were okay with that because they play golf at a level well above our comfort zone!  With the Mixed Scramble just a month away, now would be a really good time to check out the details at this link, gather a few friends, sign up and get ready for mixing it up with a bunch of other folks who just like to enjoy a weekend of fun that happens to include a no-pressure round of golf! The Roem Baur Duo tonight, Stone Senate Thursday thru Sunday, Cliff and Dave Monday and Tuesday.  Roem Baur is a multiple award-winning touring songwriter and classically trained opera singer who ultimately answered the call of rock n' roll.  Stone Senate is a 5 piece contemporary Southern Rock band hailing from Nashville. With collective musical influences as varied as hard rock, bluegrass, funk, metal, and classic country, Stone Senate has often been compared to such classic acts as the Allman Brothers and a heavier Lynyrd Skynyrd with an undeniably original twist.  Cliff and Dave is powerhouse singer/gospel drummer Cliff Porter and southern-fried singer/guitarist Dave Berry, often seen fronting the band Jelly Bread. They provide an evening of sultry R&B, funk and swinging rock ’n’ roll.
