Rodeo Headquarters, Food Drive Friday, Much More in CVI Blog

Make CVI Your Rodeo Headquarters
The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo kicks off this Thursday and we invite you to make CVI your NRF Viewing Headquarters! Each night through December 15 we’ll be showing the live rodeo telecasts starting at 7 PM in the Cabaret Lounge and throughout the casino. During the telecasts, enjoy $2 Coors, $2 Coors Light and $2 shots of Jack Daniels! We’ll also be saddled up to bring you any of our Bar Snacks right to your seat in the Cabaret Lounge or at the Casino Bar while you enjoy the rodeo action. We’ll have our eye on the Carson Valley’s own #97 Wyatt Denny as he competes in the bareback riding event. Wyatt was the 2015 Rookie Bareback Rider of the Year and the 2015 College National Finals Rodeo Champion. This is his third year to qualify for the NFR and he is the only Nevadan on the list of 100+ NFR 2018 Contestants!

Your Guide to Friday’s
Share Your Christmas Food Drive Here at CVI
We’re looking forward to seeing the Carson Valley community “en force” this Friday as you swing by the annual KTVN Share Your Christmas Community Food Drive! Here’s everything you need to know to plan your visit:

  • Simply pull into our RV Park entrance anytime between 6 AM and 6 PM this Friday - plenty of volunteers (over 150 throughout the day) will be on hand to accept your donations, help unload your vehicle, give a snack to your dog and then weigh, sort and box tens of thousands of pounds of food in 12 hours!
  • Cash and food donations will be accepted and everything collected at the CVI location goes directly to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, Nonperishables are the key and here is a link to the 2018 Most Wanted Items.
  • This year’s KTVN Channel 2 crew is Arianna Bennett, Ryan Canaday and Angela Shilling.
  • Santa will arrive by CareFlight helicopter at 9:30 AM (weather permitting) and will be here for pictures until early afternoon.
  • Two Bloodmobiles will be accepting donations from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 800-696-4484 or visit this site and sign up on line!
  • Emergency vehicles light the way before dawn and at dusk
  • All toys (new and unwrapped, please) donated at the Food Drive will go to Project Santa Claus.
  • See you Friday!!
Our Military Theme Christmas Tree
While Elvis made the term “A Blue Christmas” popular to describe the Christmas blues, the Blue Christmas celebrated on Nov. 22 - Dec. 31 is for those who work as first responders such as law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs and 911 dispatchers. With this in mind, we included a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office ornament on our military themed Christmas tree in the hotel lobby. Come on in and enjoy all the Christmas decorations at the Carson Valley Inn and be sure to bring the kids for a picture in front of the tree-framed fireplace, also in the hotel lobby.

Four Modes of Transportation to Ponder
  • Magic Carpet: Anything but in this case . . . it’s good old fashioned tugging, rolling, pushing and pulling as we move out and back hundreds of slots, table games, kiosks, ATMs and other furnishings and fixtures! It’s all part of our casino re-carpeting project which continues today and tomorrow and again next Monday through Thursday. Thanks so very much for your patience and understanding during this major spiff up!
  • Sleigh: Actually, we’re not sure if a sleigh is the best idea for this one although that is the normal form of transportation for this seasonal star! Probably should go “by hoof” as you take part in the 10th Annual Gardnerville Santa Crawl on Saturday, December 22. Sharkey’s Casino will again be in the middle of the celebration and we’ll have more on the subject next week!
  • Helicopter: Will serve as Santa's Sleigh this Friday when he arrives for the Food Drive.
  • Jets: The sights and sounds of freedom will again fill the skies of the Carson Valley on the first weekend in October 2020 when the USAF Thunderbirds return to anchor the next edition of the Aviation Roundup.
Special Days
Our Suggested "Treat" for Santa This Year
  • Friday is Bartender Appreciation Day. Or, maybe it’s Saturday? Turns out two different sites on the internet have two different opinions. So, play it safe and be nice to your bartender the rest of this week.
  • Saturday is Brownie Day. Our suggestion is to break with the cookie tradition and leave a big plate of brownies and a glass of milk for Santa in a few weeks! You can pile ‘em high for the guy in the red suit (or your family as is more likely to be the case) by stopping by the Katie’s Bakery Counter for a box of our 4’ square chocolate brownies (three for $5), cutting each one into four pieces and watching a dozen mini-brownies disappear rapidly! We won’t ask who actually devoured the brownies!
  • Sunday is Pastry Day. Between Job's Perk and Katie’s we cover all the major pastry family including bear claws, cinnamon rolls, muffins (banana, blueberry, bran and cranberry), Danish (apple, blueberry, cheese, cherry, raspberry, lemon),  fritters, long johns, and a few others that we weren’t sure of the names!
  • Monday is Lager Day. Pilsner, Ale, Lager, Beer . . . They’re all good and the “discussion” over what actually constitutes a Lager can get complex. So, at CVI the bottled Coors, Budweiser, Modelo Especial, Corona and Heineken are all lagers in our book as are the Sam Adams Boston Lager and Stella Artois we serve on draft. If you want to debate one of these with our bartender, please do so while drinking a beer of your choice!
Football and Other Sports at the Inn
  • Our Guys Picks: Three weeks left of picking winners (well, not always) and Our Guys are determined to finish with a flurry!  Greg is going with the under 38 in the Jets vs. Bills game and the Patriots -8 at the Dolphins.  Steve loves Tampa Bay +8 against the Saints and the Titans -4 vs. the Jaguars.  Mike is taking Army -7 against Navy and the Eagles +4 at the Cowboys.  Alan is rolling on the under 37½ in the Titans – Jags game and Bengals +14 at the Chargers. In order of “success rate,” here’s how Our Guys are doing thru 13 weeks: Greg is 13 & 13, Alan is 12 & 14, and both Mike and Steve are 9 & 17.  That a collective record of 43 & 61. Ugh!
  • The Progressive Pro PK'EM jackpot is now at $4,096.  Pick this week’s 15 winners or props straight up on a $5 Card (play as many as you wish) and it’s yours (any ties are split.)
  • Monday Night Football Poker Room Grid: $244 is available for this coming Monday’s Vikings/Seahawks game: That’s $61 for the first three quarters and the final score. You must be present to win and any unclaimed winnings roll to the following week. Check the details on this page.
  • Bowl Sheet Available: Our sports book has a handy three-page Bowl Games Sheet that lists all the bowl games by date with information on the times, location, teams, television coverage and odds. Quite the handy tool for keeping track of all 39 NCAA bowl games!
  • Enjoy $2 Domestic Draft Beer during all NFL games at the CVI.
  • On The Board This Week: NCAA Football (the Army/Navy Game and all the Bowl Games), NFL Football, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey and Horseracing. Futures include winners of the NFL Conference Championships, the 2019 Super Bowl, the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the 2019 Stanley Cup and the 2019 NBA Championship.
This Week in the Casino
  • Ladies’ Night Wednesday: It’s happening from 5:30 to 8:30 PM with Two Free CVI Ornaments for the first 150 ladies and Shelly Camp Gift Baskets as hot seat prizes. You’ll also enjoy the usual games, raffles, a weekly drink special and free bingo for ladies playing in the pit or at slots. If you were here for the Apron Decoration contest last Wednesday, you know it was quite a hoot.  Good reminder to start digging through your closet now so you can be ready for the Ugly Sweater Contest that will be part of ladies night on Wednesday, December 19!
  • 4X Points This Wednesday:  This one’s for our daytime guests . . . . Use your INN Club card while playing and you’ll be racking up 4X Points today from 4 AM to 4 PM.
  • Rodeo Headquarters Starting Thursday: Be sure to catch the details in the article above.
  • $75,000 Holiday Giveaways Promotion Friday & Saturday:  Join us at 5, 7 and 9 PM for drawings for cash and FreePlay!
  • Point Multipliers Saturday: 4X Points on Reel Slots and Video Poker Slots all day every Saturday in December. Use your rapidly accumulating points for FreePlay, dining, Katie’s Bakery products, hotel stays and more!
  • Guaranteed FreePlay Monday: Use your card while playing and you are the guaranteed winner of $7 - $10 in FreePlay for each 250 points you earn Monday up to 1,250 points! The FreePlay downloads automatically to your account with accompanying graphics and sounds!

The Rye Brothers through this Saturday
Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge
Rye Brothers tonight through Saturday, NFL Football Sunday and Monday nights and Tyler Stafford next Tuesday through Thursday.  The Rye Brothers are a “power-pop” country act, mixing contemporary country music and rock n’ roll guitar driven songs. The group is led by Paul Justin & Justin Foutz who trade off on the lead vocals and guitar licks.  Named “Reno’s Best Songwriter 2013” Tyler Stafford’s songs often draw comparisons to songwriters such as John Mayer and Paul Simon delivered with a candor and immediacy reminiscent of John Lennon.

Happy Thanksgiving, Craft Fair Here this Weekend, Share Your Christmas Coming, More

Happy Thanksgiving
We join you in giving thanks for all that we enjoy by living and doing business in the incredible Carson Valley! If you were fortunate enough to order one of our Turkey Dinners to Go prior to us selling out, we’ll see you just inside the hotel entrance on Thanksgiving Day at your assigned pickup time between 10 AM and 1 PM. If you have a reservation in CV Steak, enjoy your dinner and thanks for "filling us up" on Thursday! If you’re planning to have Thanksgiving Dinner in Katie’s or at the Jackpot Café in Sharkey’s, you can choose from our regular menu or our traditional Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner Special with all the trimmings for $14.99.  Katie's and Jackpot Café seating is on a first-come basis. Whatever your plans on Thanksgiving Day, please stay safe!

And Then There’s Black Friday
No, the headline is not a lead-in to some off-the-wall, have-to-be-here-at-4 AM promotion we are doing the day after Thanksgiving. We’ll leave it at this: as darkness descends this Friday the skies will definitely not be “black” around the Carson Valley Inn. . . Just drive by our property and you’ll see what we mean!

But First, Free Pumpkin Pie Today
We make this one pretty easy: start by using your INN Club card while playing today. As soon as you earn 50 points today, swing by one of our casino kiosks and swipe your card for a pumpkin pie certificate. Then, before you leave today, stop by Job’s Perk to pick up your pumpkin pie. It’s frozen when we give it to you . . . thaw it out for dinner tomorrow or keep it in the freezer for another holiday season pumpkin pie emergency!

Shenanigans and Antics Coming Soon from this Trio!
And Jumping Ahead Two Weeks to
Share Your Christmas
The annual KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive is coming up on Friday, December 7 in our west parking lot along Highway 395. Yesterday we received the above picture from KTVN which is their “reveal” of the crew we’ll be living with from 6 AM to 6 PM that day:  Ryan Canaday on the left, Angela Schilling in the center and Arianna Bennett on the right. With Zac Mooney as the Minden location producer, there’s no telling what antics will happen as all four have “been here before” and have a history of unusual spontaneous antics! Reminder: all food and cash donated on December 7 serves our locals through the Carson Valley Community Food Closet!

And Then Back to This Weekend
for
Kandy Kane Craft Fair
Lots of different Christmas crafts will be available during the Kandy Kane Craft Fair in our Valley Ballroom this Friday (9 AM to 6 PM), Saturday (9 AM to 6 PM) and Sunday (10 AM to 4 PM).  Admission is free and you’ll have the opportunity to purchase items such as ornaments, lamps, holiday treats, jewelry, scarves, purses, sports items, quilts and much more.  Stock up on gifts and seasonal decorations in one convenient location!

Some Special Days of Note
Cake Day - We Have You Covered
  • 35 Years Ago Today was the official groundbreaking for the Carson Valley Inn on Monday, November 21, 1983. Then Governor Dick Bryant was on hand as was former Governor Bob List and a host of local dignitaries.
  • Today is Tie One On Day which you already knew about if you read our blog two weeks ago. Good reminder to decorate your CVI Apron and wear it to Ladies Night next Wednesday, November 28 for our Apron Decoration Contest! And none of this will make sense if you did NOT read our Blog of November 7, 2018!
  • Friday is Espresso Day. As Mark Helprin put it, “The voodoo priest and all his powders were as nothing compared to espresso, cappuccino, and mocha, which are stronger than all the religions of the world combined, and perhaps stronger than the human soul itself.”  However you interpret this, we can help you enjoy your espresso the way you like it in Job’s Perk open daily from 6 AM! And since Friday is also Eat a Cranberry Day, order a Cranberry Muffin in Job’s Perk to go along with your espresso drink of choice!
  • Monday is Cake Day.  We’ll tempt you with these choices which are all available at the Katie’s Bakery Counter: Chocolate Fudge Cake, Carrot Cake and Pumpkin Cheesecake. These and our many other house-made cakes and pies are a much easier and faster solution to dessert than making it yourself!
Football and Other Sports at the Inn
  • Our Guys Picks were a week of perfection and imperfections.  The amazing Alan went 2 & 0 last week, the other three guys were a pathetic 0 & 6.  These losers couldn’t pick a winner in a one horse race!  Yet, they will keep throwing darts in hopes of hitting the board.  This week Mr. Perfect will look to continue his roll with the Lions +4½ against the Bears and the Redskins +7 ½ at the Cowboys.  Greg looks to restart his winning ways with the Patriots -9½ at the hapless Jets and the Seahwaks +3 ½ at the Panthers.  Steve is taking the Falcons +13 at the Saints and the over 60 in this same NFC East showdown.  Mike is picking two of the biggest rivalry games in college football, the Michigan Wolverines -4 at Ohio St. and Washington St. -3 in the Apple Cup against Washington.
  • The Progressive Pro PK'EM jackpot has risen to $3,843 for whoever pick this week’s 15 winners or props straight up on a $5 Cards (play as many as you wish). Any ties are split.
  • Monday Night Football Poker Room Grid:  Only one of the $60 squares was claimed earlier this week so it’s +$180 for a total of $320 for this coming Monday’s Titans/Texans game: $80 the first three quarters and $80 for the final score. You must be present to win and any unclaimed winnings roll to the following week. Check the details on this page.
  • Enjoy $2 Domestic Draft Beer during all NFL games at the CVI.
  • On The Board This Week: NCAA and NFL Football, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey, the Sunday Canadian Football League 106th Grey Cup pitting the Ottawa Redblacks against the Calgary Stampeders and Horseracing. Futures include winners of the NFL Conference Championships, the 2019 Super Bowl, the 2019 NCAA Football Championship, the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the 2019 Stanley Cup and the 2019 NBA Championship.
This Week in the Casino
  • Ladies’ Night is Off This Week due to our Free Pumpkin Pie Giveaway (see article above).
  • $75,000 Holiday Giveaways Promotion Friday and Saturday:  Join us at 5, 7 and 9 PM both nights for drawings for cash and FreePlay!
  • Point Multipliers Saturday: 4X Points on Reel Slots and Video Poker Slots all day every Saturday in November. Use your rapidly accumulating points for FreePlay, dining, Katie’s Bakery products, hotel stays and more!
  • Your Rewards Monday: INN Club members can swipe at the casino kiosk once on Monday for Your Reward. Could be FreePlay, a Free Food offer, a Free Multiplier or a Free Gift!
  • November Scratcher Drawings Tuesday at 6 & 8 PM: Be sure to use your INN Club card whenever playing in the casino and you may just qualify for our monthly scratcher drawings!
In Our Restaurants
  • Wednesday is Italian Day in Katie’s – three specials for $6.99 each served from 11 AM to 10 PM! The Friday and Saturday night special in Katie’s is Roasted Prime Rib & Fried Shrimp for $14.99 served from 4 PM.
  • This Friday's special in CV Steak is Roasted Rack of Venison with cherry brandy demi for $32. Saturday night’s special is Garlic Studded Prime Rib for $26 and Sunday's special is King Crab Legs for $28. These specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato – au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked – tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread.
Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge
John Palmore tonight, Lakeside Thursday - Saturday, NFL Football Sunday and Monday nights and Jeff Campbell next Tuesday and Wednesday.
John Palmore is an accomplished singer and keyboardist who has worked with Jackie Wilson, Mary Wells, ZZ Hill, Wilson Pickett, Joe Simon, Percy Sledge, The Platters and other "name" artists. Lakeside is Jhan Hansen, Curt Lee and Jonathan Barton combining for a wide variety of music from rhythm and blues, to country to good old rock ‘n roll! Jeff Campbell is a vocalist,  impassioned  songwriter  and  lifelong  musician . . .  an emotional,  evocative  poet  with  a  rock  lover’s  heart!

Food Drive Info, Santa Crawl, Brownie Sundaes, Pastries, New Slots, More

Scene from the 2016 Food Drive
Share Your Christmas Food Drive Friday
Now in its 25th year, The KTVN Share Your Christmas Community Food Drive has been happening at the Carson Valley Inn since 1999 which was the first year the event was expanded outside of Reno and Carson City  The major source of funds and food for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, the Food Drive will fill our west lot and RV Park entrance with activity from 6 AM to 6 PM this Friday. Some pertinent info:
  • Well over 150 volunteers will be working throughout the day to unload, weigh, sort and box tens of thousands of pounds of food which then all go to the Food Closet’s off-site warehouse.
  • This year’s KTVN Channel 2 crew is Arianna Bennett, Ryan Canaday and “Ky the Traffic Guy” Sisson.
  • Santa will arrive by CareFlight helicopter at 9:30 a.m. and will be here for pictures until early afternoon.
  • Two United Blood Services Bloodmobiles will be accepting donations from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 800-696-4484 or visit www.BloodHero.com (Sponsor code: Share).
  • Emergency vehicles light the way before dawn and at dusk and the National Guard boomboxmobile (our term, not theirs) will pump out holiday music during the day.
  • All unwrapped toys donated at the Food Drive will go to Project Santa Claus.
  • Stop by anytime between 6 AM and 6 PM to drop off your donation – no matter how big or small!

Three Santas Crawled Up to Sharkey’s Silver Dollar Bar . . .
We’re not saying that this did or didn’t happen during last year’s Santa Crawl in downtown Gardnerville. And we really don’t have any control over what people do when they don Santa Claus outfits. But we do know that if past years are any indication, there will be plenty of seasonal merriment and Santa impersonators this Friday when participants in the Ninth Annual Gardnerville Santa Crawl pass in front of, next to, behind and through Sharkey’s Casino!  Before you start calling us out on the headline, remember, it’s all in fun as part of the season that includes a 38-year old song titled “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer,” so let’s not take things too seriously! And this event is for two good local causes: Austin's House & the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, both of which can use the seasonal assistance! Bring a $10.00 donation to the JT Basque Bar & Dining Room, Battle Born Wine, Overland Restaurant & Pub, Buckaroos, The French Bar or Nevada Ugly and you’ll receive a participation ticket. You can then enjoy drink specials from 7 to 10 PM Friday at any or all of the participating businesses. Sharkey’s drink special is a Jägermeister concoction including Jaeger Spice and Apple Cider with or without Whipped Cream for just $1.  There are also raffle prizes and a Best Costume Contest. More details are on this Facebook Page.

Lucky Boy and Lucky Girl at CVI
Already very popular at our other three properties, a bank of Fu Nan Fu Nu™ video slots appeared on the CVI casino floor this week near the giant Roulette game. Featuring traditional Chinese art and sounds, “Fu Nan” (Lucky Boy) and “Fu Nu” (Lucky Girl) offer 243 ways to win.  Also added this week, housed in the Big Red cabinet near Katie’s entrance: a bank of the classic Colossal Diamonds 3-reel, 1-line games with a top award of $6,000. These slots are so big and so simple that even us blog writers can see and understand what’s happening! Really want to be a lucky boy or lucky girl? Take a shot at our Penny Progressive:  The jackpot is now over $89,000 and, when it hits, it can only be won at one of our four properties; the Carson Valley Inn, Bodines Casino,  Sharkey’s Casino and Slot World.

Our Usual Tidbits of Info
Stuffed Fudge Brownie Sundae
  • Friday, December 8 is Brownie Day. The supposed textbook says the best way to celebrate Brownie Day is to “hunker down over a big ol’ slice of brownie and indulge in this favorite.” We say: our 4’ square chocolate brownies make a great base for the Stuffed Fudge Brownie Sundae in Katie’s . . . or take ‘em home from the Katie’s Bakery Counter for $1.99 each or three for $5.
  • Saturday, December 9 is Pastry Day. Without getting into the technicalities of what is or isn’t an actual pastry, we invite you to stop in Job’s Perk where you can select from this list of offerings produced by our in-house bakery: Donuts (old-fashioned or classic glazed), Long Johns, Cinnamon Rolls, Bear Claws, Danish, Apple Fritters and four kinds of Muffins: blueberry, banana nut, bran and pumpkin.
  • Saturday is also Holiday with a Hero Day at our sister property Slot World Casino on Hwy 50 E in Carson City. All Betsy’s Big Kitchen revenue from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday will be donated to this incredible holiday shopping spree program.  First responders and emergency equipment will be on hand for conversations and photo opportunities.
  • Monday, December 11 is International Mountain Day. We’ll put our Sierra range up with the world’s best and the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce offers an incredible high resolution image of the Eastern Sierra as viewed from the Carson Valley. Major peaks are labeled with their names and elevations and major passes and canyons are identified. Photographed by Roger Van Alyne and designed and produced by Grafx8 Media, it’s available in four standard sizes and ready for framing. Get all the details here.

Now That’s a Candy Cane!

The sign above marks the way to Candy Cane Lane, our musical and visual celebration of Christmas “performing” nightly in our West parking lot through December 31. Drive through before or after dinner, cocktails, or gaming at the CVI . . . and tune your car radio to 89.9 FM for the accompanying music.

On the Sports Front
  • Our Guys Picks:  Our trio bounced back into the respectability column last week picking a collective 4 out of 6. This week, Mike is taking Army +3½ against Navy and the Raiders +4 at the Chiefs. Greg follows Mike’s lead with Army +3½ and the Vikings -3 at Carolina. Alan looks to maintain his season lead with the Eagles +2 at the Rams and  over 46 in the Redskins-Chargers game.
  • Enjoy $2 Draft Beer during all Televised Pro and College football games at the CVI - and our staff will bring your bar bites order to you right at your seat.
  • The Progressive Pro PK'EM is at $4,046 this week. The parlay cards are just $5 each!
  • NFL hats, tee shirts, Budweiser merchandise and other prizes are given away in drawings during Monday Night Football at the CVI. Also, three tickets are distributed each week for the Ultimate Tailgate Party package which will be given away during the Monday Night Football game on December 18.
  • Monday Night Football Grid in our poker room every week – we start with four $40 prizes each week and add in any unclaimed prizes from the previous week. Three people claimed squares last week for $144 each so this coming Monday we’re giving away $76 for each of the first three quarters and the final score! Earn entries during live poker games this week ‘til all squares are claimed.
  • Place Your Bet: Place your bets on Pro Football, the Army-Navy Game and all NCAA Bowl Games, NHL Hockey, Pro and College Basketball, and Horse Racing. • Sports and Race Betting: You can place and collect sports bets any time the Sports Book is open at the Carson Valley Inn or Bodines Casino. What Would You Do with $83,000, Picture Yourself in This Scene, Christmas Kickoff Weekend Events, More

Put Your Family in This Picture!
Many of us who work at CVI and walk through the hotel lobby regularly are now allowing extra time  . . . Turns out we are having a blast taking pictures of our guests in front of this display. They all start the same: mom is taking a picture of dad and the kids and then they swap. As soon as we come up and say “let us take a picture of all of you,” they can’t wait to jump in and huddle together in front of the fireplace. Not only are we happy to see all the smiles, but we get to experience all the latest smartphone technology! As you take pictures of or with the various Christmas decoration displays inside the Carson Valley Inn please consider making us part of your social media posts by checking in or tagging us #carsonvalleyinn so we can see and maybe share your posts. Thanks . . . and Merry Christmas!

Share Your Christmas Food Drive in Two Weeks!
In the video above, KTVN's Arianna Bennett and Ryan Canaday introduce Ky Sisson, their third CVI location broadcast partner for the 2017 KTVN Share Your Christmas Community Food Drive on December 8. You can make your drive-through food or cash donation for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet. from 6 AM to 6 PM at our RV Park Entrance. See you then!

What Would You Do
With A $83,000 Jackpot Win?
Rather than manufacture our own hype, we asked about a dozen Penny Progressive players over the last few days what they would do with the money if they won. While a few answers are unprintable (in a fun way!), the rest ran the gamut and included comments such as “Pay off my bills and take the next day off”, “Buy my dream car”, “Invest for a while then buy a truck and RV”, “Pay off my house”, and “Divide it up between my four grown sons and let them decide how to spend it on their kids. Two of the people we asked have won our Penny Progressive before. When asked what she would do if she won it again, one of them said “I don’t think lightning will hit twice, I’m playing it for the memories!”  What would you do? Somebody will get to make that decision as this jackpot can (and eventually will) only be won at one of our four properties; the Carson Valley Inn, Bodines Casino, Sharkey’s Casino or Slot World.

Our Usual Tidbits of Info
Ready to Dip in a Glass of Milk!
  • Today is Electronic Greetings Day.  Since you are undoubtedly reading this on some type of electronic device, consider this as our “Happy Electronics Day” greeting!
  • Friday is Bartender Appreciation Day. We asked a half dozen of our bartenders what they would like on bartender appreciation day. Funny thing is, they all were very positive and said they feel appreciated every day. They even like hearing your stories if they aren’t too busy!
  • Monday is Cookie Day.  With all due respect to those of our readers whose grandmothers makes the best darn cookies in the world, we do have a backup plan: large Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Oatmeal Raisin and Sugar Cookies are baked daily at the CVI and are available at the Katie’s Bakery Counter for $1.50 each or 6 for $6.

On the Sports Front
  • A Few Words About Sports Tickets:   Now that the smoke has (mostly) cleared on the opening of Slot World, here’s a handy summary on how sports betting works at our four properties:  We are not affiliated with any of the chain sports books; we set our own odds and we determine the hours. So, you can place and collect sports bets any time the Sports Book is open at the Carson Valley Inn or Bodines Casino. At Sharkey’s and Slot World, all sports betting and winning ticket collecting is done at Guest Services. A winning sports bet placed at any of our four casinos can be cashed at any of our four casinos.  Horse Race bets can only be placed or cashed when the Race and Sports Book is open at the CVI or Bodines Casino.
