Darren Jones - Our Home-Grown
Sharkey's Manager on Duty
Darren Will Be at Our Job Fair – Will You?
Yes, Darren will be at our Job Fair in the CVI’s Valley Ballroom on Thursday, March 14 from 3 to 7 PM. But Darren’s “CVI” story starts over 25 years ago when he came to work as a bus person in Katie’s shortly before turning 16 years old. He also added experience as a bus person in what was then Michael’s Restaurant before leaving the area after graduating from Douglas High School in 1996. Darren returned to the CVI in 1999 as a slot change person and soon moved up to a slot key person. He was promoted to a slot lead supervisor shortly after Mike Pegram and his partners to bought the Carson Valley Inn in 2010. Earlier this year, Darren was named to one of the key Manager on Duty positions at Sharkey’s Casino. Along with management representatives from our other three properties, Darren will be looking for you at our job fair on March 14 as we have positions to fill at all four of our properties: Carson Valley Inn, Bodines Casino, SlotWorld Casino and Sharkey’s Casino. Whether you’re looking for a job or a possible career path such as Darren’s, we invite you to stop by and chat. We’ll be accepting applications, interviewing and even making some job offers on the spot! You might want to check our current openings and then pick up an application from our HR office at the Carson Valley Inn or click here to download an application you can fill out, print and bring with you on March 14.

She Took the Cash!!
Last Thursday morning Susie Welsh told her brother, “I’m coloring my hair today because if I win the car at CVI tonight they will take my picture!” So, she colored her hair. Next she had to deal with their standing Thursday night dinner at her house with her son and his family. She called him up and said, “I’m canceling our dinner at home tonight because I’m going to win that car at CVI! If you want to have dinner with us, you can join us there.”  So, they had dinner at CVI and her husband headed home. Her son and daughter-in-law stayed for the final drawing. Susie wound up being one of the five finalists who were each dealt five cards face up – the highest poker hand would win. The picture above was taken when her third ace was dealt. And yes, her son called her husband who came back immediately . . . Any good husband would’ve as there was $20,000 about to change hands! He didn’t even get the option to take the Ford Mustang, she had already made the decision!

CVI's Michael Belanger (r) Receives
Management Professional of the Year Award
from NHLA's Jonathon Boulware
A Special Award
Congratulations to Engineering Manager Michael Belanger who was named Management Professional of the Year at the 1st Annual NNV Hospitality Awards Event hosted by the Nevada Hotel and Lodging Association last week in Reno.  Michael oversees a staff of 18 who are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all four of our properties: Carson Valley Inn, Sharkey’s Casino, SlotWorld Casino and Bodines Casino. They handle everything from routine maintenance to special projects such as the designing and installing all the outdoor Christmas lights at the CVI this past December, the upcoming completion of our hotel room remodeling . . . all which can suddenly be disrupted by hours of snow removal!
Special Days
  • Friday is Proofreading Day. We find that its to difficult to peek the interest of students on the affect of proper grammar.  Their just knot interested!
  • Saturday is Meatball Day. We do serve spaghetti and meatballs every day in Katie’s and that’s a guarantee. We also hear that the chef is working on a meatball related special for April. However, this one is not a guarantee!
  • This Saturday/Sunday Daylight Saving Time begins . . . it happens at 2 AM Sunday when we set our clocks forward one hour. We’re not sure why “they” use the word “Saving” when we are losing an hour? The one thing were sure about: it’s Daylight Saving Time not Daylight Savings Time.
  • Monday is Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day. We asked the chef if he would run this it as our waffle special on Monday and he said he’d test a few different combinations, pick the one that tasted the best and make sure this is our special in Katie’s on Monday from 7 to 11 AM!
  • Tuesday is Baked Scallops Day.  In reading through the details of Baked Scallops Day (we know everyone will), it seems the most important point is to enjoy scallops no matter how they are prepared. CV Steak serves scallops as part of our Seafood Brochette and Seafood Linguine entrees. Scallops also are served bacon-wrapped with the Seafood Mixed Broil and as one of the three seafood options on the Nevada Grill.
