The "Elf" Behind the CVI's Christmas Spirit!
In The Christmas Spirit!
Get a smile on your face and the holiday spirit in your heart here at the CVI as you enjoy the scenery of our Christmas Trees and other holiday decorations! Pictured above is Eileen Knox (Executive Office Manager the rest of the year) who is the Elf behind all the planning, buying, installation and other preparation that goes into bringing the holidays to the CVI! Over the next few weeks we’ll have the story behind some of the themed trees and some great adventure gift ideas for out-of-town folks!

Kandy Kane Craft Fair Friday – Sunday
The 20th Annual Kandy Kane Craft Fair fills our Valley Ballroom this Friday through Sunday - A great opportunity to stock up on gifts and seasonal decorations in one convenient location!  You’ll have the opportunity to purchase items such as ornaments, lamps, holiday décor and treats, jewelry, scarves, purses, sports items, wood toys, quilts and much more.   Admission is free and hours are 9 AM to 6 PM Friday and Saturday and 10 AM to 4 PM Sunday. For more information contact Kandy at 775-721-7154.

Holiday With A Hero Saturday
The focus of Carson City’s Holiday With A Hero will be at SlotWorld Casino this Saturday when the First Responders of Carson City will be “staffing” Betsy’s Big Kitchen, but that’s just the beginning of the story. All restaurant receipts for this Saturday from both SlotWorld and Bodines will be donated to the Holiday With A Hero program. These funds will be used to help the program and its 300 volunteers insure that over 250 kids in Carson are provided with a $100 Gift Card - and the story gets even better. In December each recipient is accompanied by a First Responder as his or her personal shopping aide as the full group descends on the Carson City Walmart to pick out one item of need and, in many cases, gifts for other family members.

For the full story on this community-wide Christmas support program, stop by SlotWorld this Saturday and get the scoop directly from one of the folks on hand from Nevada Highway Patrol, Carson Fire Department, Nevada Department of Corrections, Carson City Sheriff’s Office and others who donate their time to make this program a success!

Small Business Saturday
This Saturday is Small Business Saturday and we encourage everyone, on your way to or from the Carson Valley Inn or Sharkey’s, to stop by one of the three dozen participating small local businesses in Minden and/or Gardnerville and give them some of your support! Could be a gift item at Heartstrings or Fresh Ideas. Could be a bottle of wine at Battle Born Wine & Whiskey.  Perhaps a collectible from Tumblewinds or Cheshire Antiques. Or, an incredible sweet from The Chocolate Shoppe. These and the other local participating Carson Valley businesses would welcome your visit!

From the Sports & Race Book
  • Sports Book Mike’s Musings:
    • NFL favorites went 6-7 against the spread last week.  Only two of the dogs won.
    • So much for the nay-sayers discounting the Niners for not beating a decent team.  The Monday Night graphic said that the Niners will be the first team in the Super Bowl era to play three consecutive games against opponents with at least an .800 winning percentage: Packers, Ravens and Saints. After the Ravens performance Monday night, Niners fans gotta still be leary.
    • Did you know: the Detroit Lions are playing their 80th Thanksgiving Day game?  The Cowboys are up to 52.  Apparently, the University of Michigan started up the tradition of Thanksgiving Day football back in 1885.
    • We at the Sports Book wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
  • Our Pro Pick’em Progressive Jackpot is at $4,105 this week. Pick all 15 NFL winners on our weekly $5 Parlay Card and it’s yours. Each week it is not “hit,” the jackpot climbs based on the collective contest play at the CVI, Sharkey’s, Bodines and SlotWorld.
  • Seasonal Wagers on board this week include NFL and NCAA Football, NBA and NCAA Basketball, NHL Hockey and Horse Racing.
  • Futures Bets on the board include: 2020 NCAA Football Championship, 2020 Super Bowl, 2020 NCAA College Basketball, 2020 NBA Championship and 2020 Stanley Cup.
  • Football Extras:
    • $2 Coors Light draft at the Casino Bar or in the Cabaret Lounge during all televised NFL and College Games.
    • A couple of Free NFL Hats given away for each of the teams playing every Monday Night Football Game.
    • Bar Snacks Delivered to Your Seat while you watch or play. Get the full menu and pricing at this link!
    • Three Yeti 45 Coolers will be given away on Monday, December 23 during the Packers/Vikings MNF Game. Ask the bartender for more information when ordering a Coors at our Casino Bar during any NFL game!
    • Poker Room Squares Pool: Earn squares as you play in live poker games during the week. Each week we kick in $160 and the payout is on the Monday Night Football Game – $40 to the winners of the first three quarters and the final score. Any unclaimed prizes each Monday roll to the next week. Last week no one claimed any of the prizes (very unusual) so it’s up to $120 a quarter for the December 2 Vikings/Seahawks game!

Free Entertainment in the Cabaret Lounge
  • Tyler Stafford tonight: Named “Reno’s Best Songwriter 2013” Tyler Stafford is a homegrown talent. His songs often draw comparisons to songwriters such as John Mayer and Paul Simon delivered with a candor and immediacy reminiscent of John Lennon.
  • Roem Baur Band Thursday thru Saturday: Multiple award-winning touring songwriter and San Francisco resident Roem Baur has been featured on the main stage at Super Bowl 50, NBC’s The Voice, and at CES & SXSW conferences. A classically trained opera singer, he answered the call of rock n’ roll shortly after college. After winning Bob Weir’s (The Grateful Dead) national “Road to TRI” contest, Baur and his band were invited to record a live EP in Weir’s personal studio, the product of which can be found on Roem’s YouTube page and has since propelled him to a whole new era of rock fans.
  • NFL Football Sunday and Monday Nights: We suspend live entertainment on Sunday and Monday nights during the fall so the featured night NFL games can be enjoyed on the big screen.
  • Steve Lord Tuesday and Wednesday: A guitarist with dynamic vocals, Steve is a main stage West Coast performer. A man of a thousand songs, Steve presents an evening of oldies, country, pop, blues, jazz, soul and rock ‘n’ roll.
