He Roped an Interview – You Can Rope a Room!

Easton Corbin kicks off our TJ’s Corral 2019 Concert Season in just two weeks and we have some good news for concertgoers who want to spend the night. First, our good friend Tim Parsons at Tahoe OnStage managed to track Easton down last week and, as Tim put it, “I roped him for an interview!” You can read about Tim’s conversation with Easton at this link. With three restaurants in two convenient locations you have plenty of dining options on Mother’s Day this Sunday! Katie's and CV Steak at the CVI and the Jackpot Café in Sharkey’s are all offering regular menu service plus Mother’s Day specials and here’s a last-minute review of the options:

• CV Steak is open for dinner on Mother's Day from 4:30PM. In addition to all regular CV Steak menu options, there are two Mother's Day dinner specials: Beef Wellington – a Filet of Beef and Mushroom Duxelle wrapped in Puff Pastry, for $35 and Seafood Bordelaise – a combination of Lobster, Scallop and Shrimp in a Demi Glaze Cabernet for $33. Both specials include CV Steak signature table-side tossed salad, warm sourdough baguette, creamery butter, and choice of house stuffed, baked or au gratin potatoes. • Katie's is open 24 hours and is serving a Crab Benedict Omelette on Mother’s Day from 7 to 11AM – a Crab, Spinach and Hollandaise Omelette served with Toast or an English Muffin and Crisp Hash Browns for $9.99. Katie’s Grilled Salmon Oscar is served from11AM until 9PM on Mother’s Day – Salmon with Asparagus and Crab with Béarnaise Sauce and Rice Pilaf plus choice of soup or salad for $15.99.
• The Jackpot Café in Sharkey’s starts Mother’s Day with a Blackened Prime Rib & Eggs special served from 7AM until 2PM with Two Eggs Any Style, Hash Browns and a Biscuit for $10.99. Two dinner specials will be available from 11:00AM until 10:00PM: Caprese Top Sirloin Steak drizzled with Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar and served with Choice of Potatoes & Fresh Vegetables; and Florentine Salmon with Béarnaise Sauce served with Rice Pilaf & Fresh Vegetables. Both Jackpot Café dinner specials are $14.99 and include choice of Soup or Salad. Mike Tice Charity Event Update

We heard more from Coach Tice this week who tweeted he is getting excited about the Battle Born Youth Football Clinic that kicks off the Mike Tice 9th Annual Charity Weekend "For The Kids" to raise funds for the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada Carson Valley Branch. “I just ordered the sneakers and t-shirts that go to all the participating kids. Carson Valley Market Update

The interior remodeling of the Carson Valley Market is moving along with the new floor installed (mostly covered in above picture for protection during work), new counter and fixtures going in, food equipment being hooked up, surveillance system being installed and many more final touches being made before re-stocking starts later this week.  Reminder: The gas and diesel pumps are open for credit card and debit card purchases during the work.

• Pro Football Futures Posted: We’ve posted the futures odds for winning the Super Bowl on February 2, 2020 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL. As you might expect, the Patriots are the favorite followed closely by the Chiefs and the Rams. Despite both drafting quarterbacks in the top six pics of the recent NFL draft, both the Giants and the Cardinals remain relative long shots.
• Additional Futures Bets: Winners of the May 16 - 19 PGA Championship (we still have Tiger as 8 to 1), 2019 NBA Championship, 2019 Stanley Cup, the 2019 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup, the 2019 World Series and the 2020 NCAA Football Championship!

• Yes, Last Saturday Was Interesting: we had quite a crowd at  both the CVI and Bodine’s Casino Race & Sports Books waiting for the official results in the Kentucky Derby. Most were disappointed as they wound up not being able to cash their winning bets on Maximum Security. Proving once again that ”even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while,” one lucky bettor did cash a $2 Exacta bet for $3009 before taxes! • The $5,000 Progressive Pro PK'EM will be won this week!  Our 15-pick card on Sunday’s game has the winner, over/under and 13 “props” such as first or last team to score, largest lead, margin of victory, etc. You can play this $5 card as often as you’d like at CVI, Sharkey's Casino, Bodines Casino and Slot World Casino. Whoever picks the most out of 15 wins the $5,000 Jackpot and any ties will be split!  Be sure to hang on to your ticket because just like those lottery jackpot winners you read about, we do not know who has the winning ticket(s) – it’ up to you to check in with us starting Tuesday when the books open in our 4 casinos. As for those “giant” Super Game progressive jackpots advertised elsewhere: Just a friendly reminder there are thousands of players wagering at a few hundred locations around Nevada. We like our odds much better with just four casinos!
• So Who Will Throw More Touchdown Passes?  Heck if we know . . . but we do know there are dozens of different proposition bets you can make on the Super Bowl at our sports book and all are related to the game itself. Will so-and-so score a touchdown? Will this person have more or less than 82.5 pass receiving yards? Which team will score first? How will they score? And so on. Kenny Rice is a seasoned sportscaster who has appeared on ESPN, NBC, NBCSN and Mark Cuban’s HDNet. Valentine’s Day Dining – Sharkey’s, Too!

Last week we detailed Valentine’s Day Dining at the CVI which includes regular menus in CV Steak and Katie’s plus these Valentine’s Day Specials. Hopefully you are among the many who “got the message” and already made reservations in CV Steak!  The Jackpot Café in Sharkey’s is also offering its regular menu plus two $14.99 Valentine’s Day specials from 4 to 10 PM: A Caprese Top Sirloin Steak and Grilled Salmon with Pineapple Salsa. Both of these complete dinners include choice of soup or salad.

Sharkey’s Father/Daughter Dinner Special

The annual Father/Daughter Sweetheart Dance is this Saturday at the Community Center and Sharkey's Jackpot Cafe is running a pre-dance special from 4 to 6 PM for daughter and dad! Just $20 includes choice of soup or salad and non-alcoholic beverages for both. Dad chooses his entrée from Meatloaf, Chicken Parmesan, Pork Chops or Salmon; daughter chooses from Spaghetti and Meatballs, Baked Mac ‘n’ Cheese or Chicken Tenders ‘n’ Fries.

We do have a few guests who take the Small Plate approach to dinner in CV Steak. It works something like this:  They start by each enjoying a selection from our Specialty Martini Menu.  A tableside tossed salad comes next along with choosing a bottle of wine that seems fitting for the evening. • Saturday is Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. We are not a big fan of ice cream for breakfast but we understand that some people may enjoy this approach. So, here's a way to mix an early AM ice cream fetish with the traditional approach: ask for a scoop of vanilla ice cream on your stack of pancakes in Katie's! Sure, the server may look at you funny, but there is no reason why we can't do it for you!
• Sunday is Carrot Cake Day. We make ‘em here in our Bakery and you can enjoy anytime by the slice in Katie’s . . . or take home a whole Carrot Cake from the Katie’s Bakery Counter!
• Monday is Homemade Soup Day. Don’t feel like making soup at home? We’ve got the perfect answer to these chilly winter days: two housemaid soups served every day in Katie’s – we make them here, and not from a can or packaged mix.
• Monday is Stuffed Mushroom Day. We got thinking about the fact that stuffed mushrooms are traditionally mushroom caps stuffed with a mixture of the mushroom stems, cheese and spices. We don't serve stuffed mushrooms as such, but there is a great mushrooms stuffing in the Mushroom Ravioli available in CV Steak as an appetizer or an entrée!

$20,000 Guaranteed This Weekend, Free Jackets, More

Over $20,000 To Be Given Away this Weekend - Guaranteed! We don't get to make this kind of claim very often . . . So we are taking advantage of today's blog posting to SHOUT IT OUT!

• On Friday night we start with our progressive drawings at 5, 7 and 9 PM with a guaranteed winner of $12,000! Yep, one lucky INN Club member will get $12,000 and this one will go out half in cash and half in free play. Tell you what, give me $6,000 in cash to put my pocket and $6,000 more to run through any of the slots at the Carson Valley Inn . . . Heck, I'll come down and wait for the drawings and I'll do my best to get as many tickets accumulated as possible (Guest Services has all the details on how it works)!
• On Saturday night, we again have drawings at 5, 7 and 9 PM with $5,000 in cash guaranteed to be given away along with some more free play. Same entries that get you into the Friday drawings also get you in for Saturday.
• On Sunday, we reach the part where we must give away our Pro PK'EM progressive jackpot.
  
  We ended the year at a little under $5000 so we rounded up to $5000 and it has to go on Sunday's Super Bowl game. As we've explained before, the premise is very simple: there is a $5 parlay card and you can play as many of these cards as you wish. There are 15 proposition bets on the card, all based on Sunday's game. The first of the "props" will be settled on the coin flip, the last will be settled when we know what type of score is the last of the game. In between are 13 other "props" and whoever picks the most wins the jackpot (any ties split).  Enter at the CVI or Bodines . . . ya can't win if 'ya don't play!  

Super Weekend at the Inn: As if all the guaranteed money we mentioned above wasn't enough to make this a Super Weekend at the CVI there's more!

• Outside: Looks like the weather's going to be mostly sunny and in the 50s for our Saturday afternoon tailgate party in TJ's Corral from 1 to 4 PM. We'll have burgers and chili bowls for sale plus beer, soda and, if it's really cold, hot chocolate . Add in live music by The Blues Monsters (it's free!), shenanigans and stories with former NFL players and some drawing prizes and you have quite a nice party! Can't believe we're saying this in January, but don't forget your sunscreen!
• Inside: On Sunday, we'll fill out the squares pool in the poker room (the crew down there can tell you how it all works) . . . then up in the casino we'll give away some NFL hats and shirts during the afternoon (somehow without interfering with the game or the commercials), $2 draft beer will be available, bar snacks will be ready for delivery right to your seat and we'll be taking bets on the game right up to kickoff and again at halftime.  

Jackets & Jackpots in February:  Our Friday and Saturday night drawings take on a little different twist in February and we'll tell you more about that in next week's blog.  The Jackets part of our February promotions kick in on February 1 which is a good enough reason to tell you about it now. We're also hoping that by talking about jackets, we might entice some winter weather which produces moisture and, maybe even some snow . . . and maybe even the need for a jacket! Anyway, there are two ways to win a CVI Logo Jacket during February and there are multiple colors in both men's and women's styles.  INN Club members receive a jacket by earning 200 points on any Monday in February (you keep the points) and also with every slot jackpot of $1,200 or more any day in February.

Poker Room Adds More New Twists: We don't know what's gotten into the crew in the poker room but they've come up with even more new stuff for February on top of the ongoing special games, tournaments, and promotions. The February Friday Night Hot Seat Drawings are every 45 minutes from 6 to 9 PM. Each winner gets $25 in cash and a chance to spin the promotions wheel for cash, free points, restaurant certificates and more. On Saturdays from 1 to 6 PM, the high hand each hour also gets to spin the wheel. Monday nights in February starting on the 9th, drawings for $40 will be held at 6, 7 and 8 PM. Players will accumulate drawing tickets all the previous week for any hand of a full house or higher in live play. Any unclaimed $40 prizes on any Monday carry over to the following Monday. This one is kind of like a Monday Night Football squares pool but without the football game or squares grid! There's also a free $2,000 Poker Tournament coming up, but more on that next week.

Valentine's Day Dining at the INN: Now is the time that restaurants start posting their specials for Valentine's Day. Some places get quite elaborate, others keep it simple. We have a pretty straightforward approach here at the Carson Valley Inn: both Katie's and CV Steak offer all of the regular menu items at the regular prices on Valentine's Day plus, we have two fantastic specials in each restaurant. If you are the one making the dinner plans: CV Steak always fills completely on Valentine's Day so we suggest you make your reservations as soon as possible by calling 775-783-6650.

Super Weekend, Valentine's Weekend and More at the Carson Valley Inn

In this week's blog we have information about our Spring Stag Golf Outing, this Saturday's Tailgate Party, Super Sunday happenings, February promotions, Fridays Game-On special, Valentine's Day, and two of our owner's horses running this week.

Spring Stag Golf Outing: All the information on our Spring Stag Golf Outing is now up on our web site. This traditional season-kickoff guy's golf weekend includes a Thursday optional practice round and evening reception, golf on Friday and Saturday at the two Genoa Lakes courses, a Saturday-night banquet with an abundance of raffle prizes, a tee prize package for every participant and more.  This is our 30^th go at this event and anyone who has attended in the past will tell you it's a golf getaway you won't want to miss!

 Mike's Horses: As of post time for this blog (pun – get it!), two of CVI Owner Mike Pegram's horses are running this week. Hoppertunity runs in the 6^th race at Santa Anita on Thursday and Secret Circle (a Preakness Stakes winner last November) is scheduled in Sunday's Palos Verdes race at Santa Anita. Remember, with horse racing, it's never for sure until the starting gates open!

Saturday Tailgate Party: We don't get a chance to use our outdoor Valley Sky Theatre much this time of year but we're cranking it up this Saturday for a Tailgate Party – all part of our Super Weekend festivities.  The fun runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday with food and drink specials, a chance to meet former NFL players, free live entertainment with After Dark and drawings – both outside during the party and in the casino at 4:30 p.m.

$5,000 Guaranteed Pay Out on $5 Parlay Card This Sunday: If you've been following our blog you know the "why," so we'll just remind you of the "what" and "how." A Wild Game Special in CV Steak, the Annual Senior Health Fair, a $5,000 Super Sunday Jackpot, our upcoming Bridal Fair, new ownership at the Genoa Lakes golf courses and more are covered below in this week's Carson Valley Inn blog posting.

Senior Health Fair Today: There's a big Senior Health Fair in our Valley Ballroom today from 8 a.m. to noon and admission is free! The event is actually open to anyone of any age and it’s the "15th Annual" sponsored by The Douglas County Senior Center. Over 30 vendors will be on hand including home health services, medical providers, County offices, community health nurse, social services, assisted living facilities, senior volunteer organizations and more.  Certain types of blood work will be available for a low cost. It's a great assembly of information all in one convenient location so come on by if you are in the area.

Game Dinner Special: Our Game-On Fridays in CV Steak features a different "game" oriented dinner special each Friday. This week (Friday, January 24) CV Steak is offering a Wild Game Mix Grill for $29. This hearty plate includes Rabbit sausage and marinated tenderloins of both Buffalo and Elk with Cabernet Demi-Glace plus fresh vegetable. As with all CV Steak entrees, the Game-On Friday special also includes tableside-tossed salad and your choice of potato - au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked potato.

More Horse Racing News: Carson Valley Inn owner Mike Pegram had three horses run at Santa Anita Park this past weekend. In the $200,000 Stru Stakes for four year olds on Saturday, it was a one-two finish for Mike as Shakin It Up finished first and Govenor Charlie second. On Sunday, Fiftyshadesofhay finished fourth in the La Canada Stakes. One of the other horses broke sharply inward leaving the starting gate, interfering with Fiftyshadesofhay and forcing jockey Mike Smith to check sharply out of the gate.

Bridal Fair Coming Up: The next Carson Valley Inn Bridal Fair is Sunday, February 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. in our Valley Ballroom and admission is free! Produced in conjunction with "The Entertainer," the event features wedding vendors, free wedding related seminars, free refreshments, prize drawings and a special "man cave" for the grooms and fathers to hang out and enjoy a cocktail while watching an NBA game. For the Thousand of Golfers Who Stay with Us Each Year: Yesterday, the Genoa Lakes Properties including both the Lakes and Resort Courses were acquired by the Genoa Golf Group IV, LLC. Both courses will undergo improvements under the new ownership and Lou Eiguren is staying on as General Manager.
