Oak Ridge Boys Concert June 25, Sports Challenge, More

Frankie Ballard was a fan favorite at TJ's — especially female fans.
Photo: Tim Parsons / Tahoe Onstage
Frankie Ballard Concert Electric - Oak Ridge Boys Next:  Last week's Frankie Ballard concert was a rockin' country event that drew a great review from Tim Parsons at TahoeOnstage.com. Next up on our schedule is a special concert by Decades on June 18 with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. A week later The Oak Ridge Boys,  2015 inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame, swing their 2016 tour into TJ's Corral on Saturday, June 25 for a concert almost certain to sell out. Additional 2016 Concerts coming up in TJ’s Corral include Clay Walker, The Temptations Review Featuring Dennis Edwards, The Eli Young Band and Randy Houser!

Eli Young Band New Release this Friday: We love the sound of the Saltwater Gospel single being released by the Eli Young Band this Friday – their first single under a new deal with Valory Music Co.  The song “immediately transports the listener to their favorite beach, where the mystical power of the ocean melts away the troubles of everyday life — while connecting them to their own spirituality.” You can get a 26 second taste of this upbeat, toe-tapping country tune at this link. Then, be sure not to miss the The Eli Young Band Concert in TJ’s corral on Sunday, August 14 . . . tickets will be going on sale soon.

Dancing at 2015 Decades Party.
Coach Tice on Stage, Far Left
Mike Tice Charity Golf "Decades Party" is a Must!  The stage is set, the prizes have been arriving every day from around the country and soon the 6th Annual Mike Tice Charity Golf Tournament for the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada will be here . . . with Coach Tice, some of the other Oakland Raider coaches, and Mike's extended circle of friends taking over the CVI on Father's Day weekend.  Local participation has grown over the last few years and information is available for the Decades Concert on Saturday, June 18 in TJ’s Corral with an optional Spaghetti Dinner before the concert. While billed as a "concert" the appearance by Decades is more of a dance party with plenty of room for dancing, lots of visiting and singing along - if you wish - to classic oldies and current pop tunes! There are also one or two openings for the Charity Golf Tournament and Awards Dinner on Sunday, June 19. Buying tickets for the concert or getting involved in the golf tournament is easy at this link. If you have questions or want to donate or participate in a manner not covered, please call Katie Leao at (775) 882-8820.

Clay Walker Concert Added, Temptations Tickets for Sale, Much More

Rumor Has It . . . we’re talking the Clay Walker #1 Hit which preceded both the movie and Adele song by the same name. And it’s no rumor – Clay Walker has been added to the TJ’s Corral Concert lineup – bringing us to seven concerts so far!  Clay is a multi-platinum recording artist with eleven #1 Hits and 32 billboard singles. You can hear all your favorites when he takes the TJ’s Corral stage on Friday, July 15.

The Legendary Motown
Sounds of the Temptations
Temptations Tickets On Sale: Tickets are available on our website for The Temptations Review Featuring Dennis Edwards concert on Saturday, July 30.  Dennis Edwards was the first new Temptation to enter the group after their “classic five” heyday when he replaced David Ruffin as the lead singer in July of 1968. He is a true legend in the recording industry and The Temptations Review Featuring Dennis Edwards continues to deliver the authentic Motown sound to audiences around the world in live performances.

Concert Tidbits:

$7,000 Guaranteed – Every Saturday – Plus More!  We mentioned the May promotions last week and here’s more: we have drawings on Friday nights at 8 and 10 p.m. when you can win up to $500 on the spot! There are 70 Hot Seat Drawings every Saturday between 2 and 8 p.m. with 70 guaranteed winners of $100 – $50 Cash to put in your pocket and $50 in Free Play to multiply perhaps! That’s $7,000 every Saturday and you’re eligible just by playing in the casino using your INN Club card – and you can win more than once each week! It’s all part of our $100,000 Guaranteed Giveaways Promotion running through June 30 as are the Grand Prize Drawings on May 29 and June 30. We also have 4X Points in the casino on Fridays from 4 p.m. to midnight, Ladies’ Nights on Wednesdays and more.

Boston Crème Pie for Mother’s Day Week: our regular readers and customers already know that we fresh-bake most of our desserts, cookies, brownies, breads and other goodies every day in the CVI bakery. If you have attended a morning event in our convention center, you might’ve even been tempted by the bakery smells wafting down the hall. Many of these goodies are sold at the bakery display counter adjacent to the Katie’s register. Joining the list of our regularly available items through this Sunday is a limited supply of freshly baked Boston Cream Pies. These three-layer beauties are just $12 and remember, the supply is limited! And if you are in the pondering mode, why do "they" call them "Boston Creme Pie" when this item is actually a cake?

Buffalo Gold Lands at CVI: We say it that way because it almost looks like a glowing space ship has landed in our casino next to the new Roulette games we mentioned a couple of weeks ago. The new Buffalo Gold carrousel has the popular Aristocrat games with a new Gold bonus feature that activates with a 20-credit ante bet. We know this sounds like gobbledygook hype, so just stop by and give it a try . . . . Right next to the table games area . . . you can’t miss it! This is just another example of our progressive approach to updating our slot offerings . . . a great segue into an upcoming story (next couple of weeks) on all the progressive jackpots available at the CVI . . . probably quite a few more than you'd think!

Monique in the Cabaret Lounge This Weekend
Free Cabaret Lounge Entertainment: Jonathon “JB” Barton entertains tonight and Thursday, Monique and the Moon Lighters take the stage Friday and Saturday and George Pickard performs Sunday through Wednesday.  Formerly known as Mo'z Motley Blues band, Moni (Monique's nick name) & The Moonlighters have their musical foundation in blues, but also incorporate many other sounds and styles to produce a rockin' rhythm and blues funky dance band experience!

Interesting & Helpful Tidbits and News
  • Mike’s Horses: Toews On Ice won the William Walker Stakes at Churchill Downs last Saturday. Read the story here. How are you trying to pronounce the first word in this horse’s
Toews On Ice Gallops to Victory Again
name? Hint: Think Jonathan Toews, center and captain of the Chicago Blackhawks.  On Sunday, Fantasy Of Luck won the fifth race at Los Alamitos. Whew – we can finally talk horses again with Mike after a few months of dancing around the subject because, as we’ve mentioned before, owning race horses is not for the faint of heart!
  • Sports and Race Book: This week you can bet Major League Baseball, Kentucky Derby Weekend Horseracing, the NBA Playoffs, the NHL Playoffs and Saturday's NASCAR GOBOWLING 400 at Kansas Speedway.
  • Ladies’ Night Tonight: The first 150 ladies who sign up for Ladies’ Night tonight receive a Logo Pen Planter and the first colorful flower pen . . . with a different flower pen to come the remaining Wednesdays in May. Also tonight: a ladies-only drink special, raffle, games and hot seat drawings for Chocolate Shoppe Mother’s Day Baskets.
  • Monthly Blackjack Tournament Tuesday: Our monthly Blackjack Tournament takes place in the pit area on the second Tuesday of each month – all of the $25 entry fees and any rebuys ($1,275 last month) go to the prize pool that is distributed among the top-three finishers. Pretty simple event and any of the dealers can fill you in on how it all works.
  • Elk Friday, Prime Rib Saturday, King Crab Sunday in CV Steak:  Our Friday special in CV Steak is Elk Game Tips sautéed with mushrooms and Cabernet Demi, served over peppered Pappardelle pasta for $26.00. Saturday night’s special is Garlic Studded Prime Rib for $26 and Sunday's special is one pound of King Crab Legs for $32. All three specials are served with fresh vegetable, choice of rice or potato (au gratin, baked, or a one-pound, twice-baked), tableside tossed salad and warm demi-loaf of bread
Because We Feel Like Mentioning It:
  • May is Hamburger Month. It would take you ‘til National Hamburger Day on May 28, at one per day, to try all the hamburgers available on the menus in Katie’s and CV Steak (the Gourmet Burger!) at the CVI, Bodines Restaurant, the Jackpot Café in Sharkey’s and the various Bar Bites menus.
  • Today is Firefighters Day. We tip our hat and express our sincere appreciation to all the staff and volunteers at the East Fork Fire Prevention District.  Thanks for all you do for the safety of our community!
  • Friday is Beverage Day. At first there was just water and milk. Now, just think of how many different kinds and flavors of beverages (and beers!) exist!
  • Friday is also National Tourist Appreciation Day. With 149 Hotel rooms, 74 Motor Lodge room and 59 RV sites to fill, we are truly appreciative of the business we receive from tourists, business travelers, and those visiting our area overnight for any reason. Thank You!!
  • Monday is Lost Sock Memorial Day (remember, we don’t make this stuff up!) We wonder why "they" just don't celebrate this on June 1 which is Go Barefoot Day. (Makes sense, doesn't it?)

6th Concert Added, Food Trucks Saturday, Journey Tribute, More at CVI

Prime Rib Anyone? Today is Prime Rib Day and we make it geographically easy for you to celebrate any night of the week! Starting in south Carson City, Bodines Restaurant serves Prime Rib daily from 4 p.m.  Moving south to Minden, Katie's Prime Rib comes out daily from 4 to 10 p.m. And two short miles further south in Gardnerville you can sink your teeth into Prime Rib at Sharkey's Jackpot Cafe seven days a week starting at 11 a.m. But wait, there's more: On Friday's and Saturday's both Bodines and Sharkey's offer a Prime Rib and Lobster Special . . . and on Saturdays, CV Steak jumps in with a Garlic Studded Prime Rib Special.

Friday and Saturday in the Casino:  You almost have to buy a program to keep track of everything that’s going on around here this coming Friday and Saturday. We’ll save you the three bucks with this synopsis:
  • Friday in the Casino (be sure to get all this): Our 6th Anniversary cash drawings will be held at 11 a.m. 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.  Sandwiched in between will be the final drawings in our Spin to Win promotion at 6 and 8 p.m. when we’ll be giving away the lion’s share of $10,000 going out between the CVI and Bodines. Free anniversary T-shirts will be distributed randomly throughout the day and we'll be serving free cake and champagne in the casino from noon to 1 p.m. and again from 5 to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday in the Casino: if you’re not outside at the Food Truck Festival, be sure to use your INN Club card ‘cause it’s 5X Points all day Saturday!

Moving Outside, Don't Stop Believin’ – in Food, Fun and Journey!
If you spent time living in cities in the 70's and 80's, the "roach coach" was a downtown fixture. Vehicles serving hot dogs, gyros, tacos and the like parked on the street during lunch hours for workers and students in a hurry to get lunch on the cheap. These days, those food trucks are where you can find some of the best, most creative, and freshest cuisine anywhere. And we take this verbal trip down a gastronomic memory lane to remind you that some of those outstanding portable restaurants will be at our Food Truck Festival and Anniversary Jam in and near TJ’s Corral this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Also in the mix are free live entertainment with favorite Justin Lee & a tribute to legendary Journey by Journey Revisited! Cold beverages will be for sale . .. and free ice cream and activities will be available for the kids.
Our thanks to Bill Chernock at the Carson Valley Chamber for originally penning some of the above words in promoting our Saturday event.

It will be raining Cash in May and June at the CVI
April Showers Bring $100,000 in May & June!  . . . That’s a pretty bold statement but it’s true: our $100,000 Guaranteed Giveaways Promotion runs from May 1 through June 30! Watch for more details next week but catch this: Every Saturday in May we’ll have 70 Hot Seat winners of $100 between 2 and 8 p.m., like those odds! Also in May, simply swipe your INN Club card at the kiosk any Monday and we will donate one dollar to the Nevada Military Support Alliance for every swipe - up to $10,000 for the month!

Poker Room Musings: Dean and DJ from the Poker Room stopped by yesterday to share that another “high hand of the hour spins the wheel” day has been added on Mondays from 4 to 7 p.m. based on the previous hour’s high hand. The crew has also added another Crazy Pineapple Tournament on Saturdays at 5 p.m. On the way out the door, they reminded us this Sunday is the monthly Ladies Only Texas Hold ‘em Tournament starting at 4 p.m. with a $40 buy-in. There is quite a bit going on in our poker room every week and all the details on our featured games, tournaments, promotions and progressive jackpots are at this link.

The Temptations Review Featuring Dennis Edwards

The Rye Brothers in the Cabaret Lounge through Saturday Night
Free Cabaret Lounge Entertainment: The Rye Brothers entertain tonight thru Saturday and Dale Poune performs Sunday through Thursday.  The Rye Brothers are a “power-pop” country act, mixing contemporary country music and rock n’ roll guitar driven songs. The group is led by founders Paul Justin & Justin Foutz, who trade off on the lead vocals and guitar licks. The duo quickly added a solid rhythm section consisting of Jacob Delott (bass, backing vocals) and Jeff Sorenson (drums, backing vocals).

Stew Remembers Merle Haggard: Tim Parsons and crew at Tahoe Onstage do a great job of covering northern Nevada entertainment including the special entertainment at the Carson Valley Inn and the Concerts in TJ’s Corral. Tim checks in with us regularly and he came down earlier this month to catch Stew Stewart on the night he bid his musical farewell to Merle Haggard. Tim posted this story on his web site and we think it is well worth a read!

Mother's Day, Oak Ridge Boys News, 24-Hour Roulette, More

Roulette Action at the CVI  whenever you are ready!
Her Voice is Smooth and She is Always Ready! You thought we were going where with this headline?!?!  We’re talking about the voice that calls the game on our new Roulette Carousel near the table games area in the casino! The CVI is one of the few northern Nevada locations for this circle of seats surrounding a real roulette wheel just like you would see on any roulette table in Nevada. This is easy, fast and convenient electronic betting, with a personal monitor of the wheel camera at each seat, a helpful history display board, and 24-hour availability! Place wagers from 25 cents to $200 with only a dollar minimum. Step right up, sit down and give it a whirl!

Why no actual picture? Did you ever see a Chicken Fried Steak that looked good in a photo?
Like the Katie’s $5.99 Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs?  We’re trusting you do because it is our most popular and most often raved about breakfast! The Chicken Fried Steak is a hearty portion (to say the least), your two eggs can be any style, and we also include a biscuit and gravy – it's a generous plateful and an incredible value at just $5.99. Anyway, enough for hype. If you think it should be a finalist in the carsonvalleytimes.com Breakfast Wars, just click the link and give it your vote!

How do you enter? We've been e-filing your entries since April 1 based on one entry for each 10 points you've earned.  We'll also have hot seat prizes throughout the day for gifts, cash and Freeplay.

Youth to Benefit from Three Golf Tournaments
The CVI is proud to be participating as a sponsor (of course we are also playing in them) in a few upcoming Golf Tournaments benefiting the youth of our community.
  • The China Spring Sandbagger Golf Tournament on Friday, May 6 offers an opportunity to play Edgewood Tahoe and hob-nob with judges, attorneys and other community leaders . . . none of whom can do a darn thing to help your golf game!!  Last we heard there were a few individual openings and you can find out more by contacting Tiffany Dubois at 775-265-5350.
  • The Fore the Kids Tournament on Saturday, May 14 at the Genoa Lakes Ranch Course offers the opportunity to golf that day with Super Bowl Champion quarterback Jim McMahon or win a golf vacation with Jim and his wife.  The weekend event kicks-off (Jim insisted on this term) on Friday, May 13 with a Meet and Greet at the Douglas County Community Center and continues with Saturday’s golf event filled with more extras, surprises, fun and youth organization beneficiaries than just about any you’ve ever experienced.  Don’t miss out . . . sign up soon and feel free to call Renea at 775-790-1544.
  • Then there’s the infamous Mike Tice Charity Golf Tournament on the third weekend in June benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. However, we’re running out of room, so more about this one next week!
  • And finally on the subject of golf – and this one is for the adult guys and thus benefiting the older but young-at-heart crowd: We may have room for a few more players in our Annual Spring Stag Golf Outing the last weekend in April . . . call Greg at 775-783-6615 for availability!

Because We Feel Like Mentioning It
  • Today is Scrabble Day (the board game).  If you are on the anti-inflammatory drug oxyphenbutazone you are probably already aware this is a 1760 point word! Go ahead, click on the drug name and see how it's done!
  • Friday is Take a Wild Guess Day. Before clicking on the link, try guessing why this day was "invented!"
  • Saturday is Eggs Benedict Day. Nice to have this fall on a Saturday this year because every Saturday we offer a $5.99 Eggs Benedict special in Katie's from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. And if you're still thinking about the 1760-point Scrabble word, here's a more-pronounceable 20-point word describing what happens when you play in the casino on Saturdays in April: You quintuple (5X) your INN Club points!
